Details reveal that scams have become more prevalent and that in the past eleven months of this year, US residents have lost $10.2 billion as a result. From the $6.9 billion they lost the previous year, this year’s loss is up 47%.

What can be done?

The FBI has assigned a permanent representative at the US embassy in New Delhi who will cooperate with the Indian authorities to crack down on these gangs in response to a surge in Indian fraudsters taking money from elderly Americans.

How do these cons happen?

Suhel Daud, the FBI’s South Asia regional director and legal attaché at the US embassy in New Delhi, discussed the problem and disclosed that these con artists defraud the elderly of billions of dollars while posing as tech help, love-related calls, business investors, etc.

The US doesn’t want India to suffer, he continued, adding that the problem might not be one of national security but rather of a nation’s reputation. Additionally, he said that tech support frauds have cost innocent Americans INR 92 billion and have climbed by 130% yearly.

Suhel Daud pointed out that 0.78 million complaints were filed in the first eleven months of this year compared to 0.85 million in 2021 on the FBI’s complaint portal. He also revealed that the $10.2 billion is made up of $3 billion in investments, $2.4 billion in business emails, $1.2 billion in data breaches involving personal information, $1 billion in romance, $781 million in fraud involving technical support, and the remaining money in miscellaneous internet scams.

Are there any consequences?

From Press Trust of India A 24-year-old Indian national was detained in Virginia by US federal law enforcement officers on suspicion of taking part in a widespread alleged fraud that preyed on older persons.

Sumit Kumar Singh, 24, Himanshu Kumar, 24, and MD Hasib, 26, have previously entered guilty pleas in connection with the plan and are awaiting punishment. They are citizens of India who have lived in Houston without permission.

The allegations state that the ring urged victims to submit money through wire transfer through a money transmitter company like Western Union or MoneyGram, by purchasing gift cards and giving them to the fraudsters, or by mailing cash to alias identities via FedEx or UPS using different ruses.

Couple In Lahore Bashed For Getting Their Wedding Photoshoot Done At A University

A prestigious University in Lahore turned into a photo shoot location for the newlywed couple and the internet isn’t happy about it. The photoshoot fiasco blew up on social media after the pictures from the photographer based in Lahore surfaced on Twitter. Many including those part of the university are not so amused and have taken to Twitter to share their disregard for the situation.

University Photoshoot

While thinking about a location for a wedding photo shoot, a university doesn’t often come to mind. However, a couple in Lahore allegedly took their love for studies to the next level by getting their pictures taken in the vicinity of Kind Edward Medical University Lahore.

The University which is known for creating some of the top-notch doctors over the decades is one of the most renowned and reputable medical institutions in Pakistan. Soon after the news broke out, alumni from the University took to Twitter to share their views. He called out the couple and the photographer for being insensitive in a series of tweets about the historical landmark.

Calling out photographers as a breed of capitalism, he shared how such an incident mustn’t be taken lightly since the college’s legacy is being tarnished just for a mere amount of money. He also shared his views about the failing education system and how these incidents can have a detrimental impact on the prestigious educational and monumental location.

Meanwhile, in recent news, the administration of the University has taken notice of the incident. A notification was issued regarding the inquiry committee which has been set up and comprises three individuals.

Is The Backlash Relevant?

While some had their reasons for calling out the couple, the majority didn’t agree with the narrative. The argument was questioned since some of the best IVY league universities including Oxford and Harvard has already seen the same. Previously couples have gotten their wedding shoots done on the university premises and the concept is certainly not alien.

Another argument raised includes that there is no harm if the couple is an Edward College alumni. However, if that’s not the case then nothing can be said about it.

Now that the committee is set to take action on the breach of university policies, we will find out the proceedings in due time. Till then share your views in the comments below.

WhatsApp To Stop Working On These Samsung Devices

It’s hardly surprising that this year, roughly 50 handsets will no longer be able to operate WhatsApp because the messaging service regularly phases out older cell phones. The support for a sizable portion of Android and iOS devices is being phased out by WhatsApp for the second time in the last three months.

Last time, WhatsApp said in October that it will stop supporting the iPhone SE, iPhone 6S, and iPhone 6S Plus, as well as at least 40 Android handsets made by Samsung, Huawei, LG, Sony, ZTE, HTC, Lenovo, and Alcatel.

Do old phones not support Whatsapp?

The Apple iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c are among the roughly 50 phones that WhatsApp has confirmed it would no longer support. Samsung, Huawei, LG, Sony, Lenovo, and ZTE are among the other phone manufacturers on the list.

These phones won’t be supported any longer because they haven’t received any updates in a very long time. It appears that WhatsApp has increased the prerequisites for its software, so devices that don’t run iOS 12 or Android 5.0 Lollipop will not be able to use it.

WhatsApp support is going away for some older iPhones, OS update required for others - StuffSA

As of right now, WhatsApp’s FAQ page still states that it works with Android devices running OS 4.1 and later. We’re not sure how accurate the information is as many (if not all) of the phones that will no longer support WhatsApp at the end of the year are powered by Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

The list which was first published by GizChina, consists primarily of entry-level and mid-range smartphones . To continue using WhatsApp and get new updates, you should definitely switch to a newer phone if you’re using one of these gadgets.

Whatsapp being efficient

It makes sense for WhatsApp to redirect its resources to the areas where they are most needed since the vast majority of these phones have already been terminated. The above-mentioned phones should theoretically no longer be able to operate WhatsApp after December 31. There are certainly workarounds that will enable WhatsApp users to continue using the service on incompatible smartphones, but this only postpones the inevitable.

WhatsApp claims that anytime it makes a decision on what to stop supporting, it considers which hardware and software are the most outdated and have the fewest users. This implies that even if WhatsApp determines that there are still a lot of people using your phone, which runs a much older version of Android, it could still be maintained.

Nevertheless, WhatsApp will do its share and discontinue support for older devices running its app as Apple and Google continue to release new iOS and Android versions. It’s simply another tactic to get customers to upgrade to newer models if they want to keep getting the same level of support as other WhatsApp users.

Upgraded To iOS 16? Here’s What You Need To Do ASAP

If this is your first time using iOS 16, there are three things you should do immediately before exploring all the hidden features or the most bothersome settings in order to enhance your iPhone experience. We’ll explain what these items are and how they may improve your life in this tale.

1. Create a new wallpaper option for your lock screen

The lock screen on iOS 16 has undergone a major revamp by Apple, enabling you to fully personalize a number of aspects, including the date and time, add small widgets to keep track of the weather and the most recent headlines and create numerous wallpaper profiles that you can quickly switch between.

Press anywhere on the locked screen with your finger to personalize your lock screen. When requested to unlock your smartphone, do so. Once you’ve done that, a fresh lock screen interface will show up where you may browse and alter all of your lock screen wallpaper options.

Widgets on the lock screen on iOS 16
Source: CNET

To create a new wallpaper, hit the Plus button in the bottom right corner. You can then choose from a variety of Apple wallpapers, including those with emojis, astronomy, weather, and more. Some of these wallpapers come with widgets already installed, but you may easily add them afterward.

If you decide to upload your own photo, try to choose one with something or someone in the foreground. The new depth effect feature, which advances the time behind whatever item is in focus to create a layered type of aesthetic, can be used if the image is adjusted exactly so.

Then, to change the appearance, press any of the lock screen’s components, such as the date and time. You may add teeny transparent widgets to that area of your background by selecting Add Widgets.

2. Create a Focus profile

Apple released Focus, an updated version of Do Not Disturb, last year. With Focus, you can choose to only receive critical alerts and notifications while blocking everything else. But if you want to lessen distractions on your iPhone, check out and set up iOS 16’s productivity function, which has undergone significant reworking.

Select the profile or profiles you want to configure under Focus in Settings. You can then select which people and apps to receive notifications from inside a Focus profile. You can also choose to hide notification badges, show silenced notifications on your lock screen, and have your lock screen and home screen wallpapers automatically change when your Focus profile is activated.

Source: IphoneHacks

Furthermore, you may program when your Focus profile should activate (when you go to sleep) and turn it off (when you wake up). You may obtain your sleep data from the Health app and use it to pick an appropriate Focus schedule.

3. Set up iPhoto

There is now a built-in tool in Photos that searches your camera roll for any duplicate pictures and movies if you need to quickly free up some space on your iPhone. This is an excellent opportunity to perform some spring cleaning as well as get rid of files on your iPhone that are eating up space.

Go to the Albums tab under Photos, slide all the way down, and choose Duplicates. To erase all of the duplicate images and videos at once, select Select > Select All > Merge after going through all of your images and movies. You can see the size of each photo or movie at the bottom, so you should prioritize bigger files first.

WhatsApp Feature Now Allows To Recover Deleted Messages

The most widely used instant messaging service in the world, WhatsApp, has finally included a capability to recover accidentally deleted messages. A report from June 2022 claimed that WhatsApp engineers were developing a feature that would enable users restore accidentally deleted messages.

A feature or a mere update

Introducing Whatsapp Feature Allow to Recover Deleted Messages- Gossip Pakistan

Whatsapp frequently works on many new upgrades at once. The tech giant previously allowed customers the option to erase a text message that had been sent or received by someone else. According to earlier rumors, the IT giant was working on delivering the feature fresh updates.

According to recent sources, WhatsApp has now released an upgrade that adds a new option to retrieve lost messages. According to WABetaInfo on twitter, the update has now been sent to a small number of beta users.

What exactly will it do

According to reports, the beta version of Google Play has begun rolling out the new update with the undo capability. Users of the functionality can recover deleted messages by using the “undo” option. But there’s a problem. By selecting the “delete for me” button rather than “delete for everyone,” the user will only be able to recover texts that they themselves erased.

In addition, users will only have a very little window of time to retrieve deleted communications. The article states that WhatsApp would allow consumers a brief window of time to retrieve the communication. Only a small number of beta users have access to the function, but it is rumored that WhatsApp will make it available to everyone else in the upcoming weeks.

Source: WBR

WhatsApp is preparing to extend the time restriction for deleting any conversation messages from one hour, eight minutes, and sixteen seconds to two days. This was reportedly the original concept when WhatsApp’s “delete text” function was being developed.

You now have two options on the platform to delete the text: “Delete for myself” and “Delete for everyone.” However, the goal is to increase these options and also add some other options to perform older functions.

While Whatsapp is just introducing this feature, other communicating apps such as Snapchat figured out this trick well before since it always had an option of deleting messages and has recently added an additional feature of deleting sent snaps as well. It might be that these IT giants are figuring out the importance of privacy and having the option to undo as a deal breaker for their apps to make a more user-friendly interface and provide more of a reason to use their apps.

Breath Testing Begins In Lahore To Catch Drunk Drivers

Alcohol can be an enjoyable activity for some people. However, what many people fail to realize is how quickly it can affect your daily life and functionality.

Speaking of which, it seems like the police in Lahore is definitely catching up with global practices. Just recently, Lahore City Traffic announced that they’ve started using breathalyzers to test drunk drivers on the spot on the city’s major roads.

What is a breathalyzer?

A breathalyzer is a device that measures blood alcohol content (BAC). The more intoxicated a person is the higher their BAC.

Here’s the announcement tweet:

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore, Dr. Assad Malhin, stated:

“The police will conduct the test on the spot through a digital alcohol tester. If caught, legal proceedings against the driver will be initiated under Motor Vehicle Ordinance. The culprit could face up to 6 months of jail time along with the fine.”

This initiative is indeed commendable as it will prevent road accidents from happening. Other cities in Pakistan should also take notice to ensure smooth traffic and also take care of pedestrians that are commonly seen on the raods in Paksiatn.

Nothing is worth risking your life or the lives of others.

Babylicious Trailer

The teaser trailer for the movie was shared by the lead couple on their social media channels. Syra and Shahroz who had been married for almost eight years before getting divorced in 2020 are the highlights of the movie. Despite getting severe criticism on the name the movie plot seems solid and has received great reviews from netizens and celebrities.

Take a look at the trailer if you haven’t watched it already

Despite moving forward with their lives after Shahroze married Sadaf Kanwal, Syra plans to settle down soon the trailer shows the former couple looking very much in love. Previously Syra shut down any rumors regarding the movie. However, after the trailer launch, she addressed the release and mentioned the movie was in the pipeline for a good twelve years. Which is long before the couple decided to part ways. Hence, their chemistry in the trailer seems raw and genuine. However, if the filming was done after the couple’s highly condemned divorce – both celebrities managed to bring their best foot forward and that’s what makes netizens question whether they are still in love or just have an immense amount of respect for each other.

While the storyline of the movie is still not clear, the trailer gives us a peak as to what we will get to see in the movie, and needless to say it will be a rom-com for the books.

Is The World Economy Headed For A Recession In 2023?

According to a British consultancy’s annual World Economic League Table, the global economy reached the $100 trillion mark for the first time in 2022 but will stagnate in 2023 as policymakers continue their fight against rising prices.

According to the Centre for Economics and Business Research, the globe will experience a recession in 2023 as a result of rising borrowing prices intended to combat inflation.

According to the British consultancy’s annual World Economic League Table, the global economy reached the $100 trillion mark for the first time in 2022 but will stagnate in 2023 as policymakers continue their fight against rising prices.

Global Recession - Meaning, Examples, Causes, Effects, Timelines
Source: Wallstreetmojo

What the future holds

According to Kay Daniel Neufeld, director and head of Forecasting at CEBR, it is likely that the world economy will experience a recession next year as a result of increases in interest rates in reaction to increasing inflation.

The war against inflation still has to be fought, the study continued. Despite the negative economic effects, we anticipate central bankers to remain steadfast in 2023. The price of getting inflation down to more manageable levels is a longer period of weaker economic prospects.

Compared to the most recent International Monetary Fund prediction, the findings are more negative. This organization issued a warning in October, predicting that more than a third of the global economy will decline and that there is a 25% probability that in 2023, global GDP growth will be less than 2%, which it characterizes as a worldwide recession.

In spite of this, when emerging economies catch up to more developed ones by 2037, the global GDP will have doubled. By 2037, the East Asia and Pacific area will produce more than one-third of the world’s production, while Europe’s contribution will fall to less than one-fifth due to the shifting power dynamics.

The shift of power

Six years later than anticipated, China is now not likely to surpass the US as the world’s largest economy until 2036 at the earliest. That is a reflection of China’s policy of zero covid and the escalating trade conflicts with the west, which have hampered economic growth.

World economy is headed for a recession in 2023, says researcher | Mint
Source: MInt

The CEBR originally projected the move would occur in 2028, but it was delayed to 2030 in the league table from the previous year. It currently believes that the cross-over point won’t occur until 2036, and it may happen even later if Beijing moves to annex Taiwan and is met with economic penalties in response.

The economic conflict between China and the West would have considerably more negative effects than what we have already seen as a result of Russia’s attack on Ukraine. Almost probably, there would be a pretty severe global recession and a rise in inflation, claimed CEBR.

However, China would suffer much more harm, which might jeopardize efforts to steer the global economy.

Predictions for the future

India’s GDP will grow to $10 trillion in size by 2035 and rank third globally by 2032.

Why India Is the Fastest-Growing Economy on the Planet
Source: CBS

Over the next 15 years, the UK will continue to have the sixth-largest economy in the world and France will have the seventh-largest economy, but Britain is no longer expected to grow more quickly than its European counterparts because of “a lack of growth-oriented policies and the lack of a clear vision of its role outside of the European Union.”

Natural resource-rich emerging economies will see a “substantial boost” as a result of the role that fossil fuels play in the transition to renewable energy.

Pakistan Telco Sector Faces Lowest ARPU In The World

Mobile subscription fees in Pakistan are the lowest in the world at less than $1 per month. According to a GSMA report, Pakistan has one of the lowest average revenue per user (ARPU) rates in the world at less than $1; the global ARPU is $8, while inflation in Pakistan has risen to its highest level in 47 years.

Telecom Revenues Reached Highest Ever Level During 2020-21
source: cellutime

Why the decline?

A number of variables, including competition, pricing wars, a rise in smartphone use, tax implications, and an increase in data consumption, as well as Pakistan’s macroeconomic circumstances and the Pakistani rupee’s devaluation versus the dollar, have contributed to the telecom ARPU decreasing.

While the average ARPU around the globe is more than $8, it is significantly higher in nations like the United States, Canada, and Bahrain: $46, $41, and $39, respectively.

Times have changed

In terms of ARPU, Pakistan is ranked 267th out of 269 telecom markets examined worldwide by GSMA Intelligence. Low telecom prices have made it possible for tens of millions of new consumers to use the internet, but they have also led to weak financials that have now restricted further growth and innovation in this industry.

The sector is currently experiencing an existential crisis as a result of a recent, unprecedently high rise in operational expenses, particularly those related to gasoline, power, lending rates, and local currency depreciation.

On declining ARPU - BR Research - Business Recorder
Source: business recorder

Based on the information that is readily available, two mobile phone companies reported a combined loss of almost Rs50 billion in the first half of 2022. In US currency terms, Jazz’s revenues saw negative growth for the fourth straight quarter for international investors.

Compared to the previous year, operational costs have increased significantly by around 20%, but industry income has hardly increased by double digits. At the same time, our clients have legitimate expectations that 4G would be available nationwide and quickly.

Is the government responsible?

Herein lays the problem; telecom businesses are required to pay a hefty spectrum price (in relation to the country’s income potential), and the majority of investment resources are used to fund government obligations rather than purchasing telecom equipment.

The fact that all spectrum auctions, renewals, and the payments due on them are priced in US dollars but the money earned is in Pakistani rupees is also a major matter that has gone unresolved. It is now hard to estimate, create, and carry out good business strategies for the expansion of 4G due to this mismatch.

The operators run the risk of significant currency depreciation when the cost of spectrum is denominated in dollars. For instance, three operators each paid $291 million for telecom licenses in 2004–2005, but the same licenses were renewed in 2019 for $450 million, a price increase of 55%. In rupee terms, the increase was 360% from Rs16 billion to Rs74 billion, respectively.

Furthermore, due to the capital-intensive nature of the telecom business, even a single percentage point increase in interest rates causes an additional financial burden of Rs1.5 billion for the sector. The interest rate has increased by eight percentage points since last year.

It is urgent to recognize telecom as a national asset and address the problems endangering it before its ability to continue enabling any digital change is permanently lost. To assist the government address the present issues, the sector has unanimously recommended important policy adjustments.
