Shan Masood, Pakistan’s Test captain, recently shared his admiration for Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem, expressing his desire to replicate the joy that Arshad brought to the nation.
Nadeem, who has become a household name, captured the world’s attention with his historic performance in the javelin throw final at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Arshad’s monumental 92.97m throw in his second attempt not only set an all-time Olympic record but also earned him a place in history as the first Pakistani to win an individual gold medal.
Speaking at a press conference in Rawalpindi, Shan Masood couldn’t help but express his admiration for Arshad’s achievement. “Arshad Nadeem has always been a national hero, and with his recent Olympic victory, he has taken a significant step forward,” Shan remarked with a sense of pride.
Shan also reflected on the responsibility of representing Pakistan on the international stage, emphasizing that the country always comes first for every player.
“Whenever we play cricket for Pakistan, the country always comes first for us. Representing Pakistan on any stage or at any level is a privilege.”

The Test captain also pledges to bring the same happiness to the country that Arshad Nadeem has brought.
“Winning and losing are part of the game, but when the team loses, it hurts us the most. As a team, we aim to bring the same joy to our nation that Arshad Nadeem has brought.”
The Pakistan cricket team has faced intense criticism recently due to their disappointing performances in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 and the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, where they failed to advance past the group stages.
The Green Shirts haven’t lifted an ICC trophy since their memorable victory in the 2017 Champions Trophy final against India.
Arshad’s success, despite limited recognition and support, has further fueled the frustration among fans who feel that cricketers, often treated as stars, have fallen short of delivering similar moments of pride.
Arshad Nadeem’s gold medal has not only set a new standard for Pakistani athletes but has also inspired figures like Shan Masood to strive for greater success and bring happiness to the nation.
