Aimed at raising awareness on breast cancer, Jazz, Pakistan’s leading digital operator and the largest internet and broadband service provider, conducted month-long campaigns to drive reinforcement for prevention, reminder of periodic checkups, and educate the masses including its own employees.
Pakistan has the highest incidence of breast cancer among Asian countries; one in nine women is at risk of being diagnosed with breast cancer, and 40,000 women die of breast cancer every year, out of which only 19,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer.
Jazz offices and experience centers were lit up pink to serve as a reminder and draw attention to this critically important message, encouraging women to have regular check-ups and destigmatize the taboos associated with breast cancer.
Additionally, the company collaborated with Pink Ribbon to organize nationwide awareness sessions for all branches and joined hands with Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre for SMS and billboard awareness campaigns.
“Jazz is committed to empowering Pakistani women through the power of the internet by providing digital access to effective, quality essential health care services. With over 21,000 women remaining undiagnosed with breast cancer, our campaigns were aimed at creating conversation around this topic. Our thoughts and prayers remain with those who have lost their lives fighting against breast cancer,” said Sabahat Bokhari, Head of D&I, Jazz.
Shaukat Khanum, Pink Ribbon, and ITTEHAD teams also visited Jazz offices to highlight the importance of breast cancer early detection, destigmatizing the examination, timely diagnosis, and efficient treatment methods. Jazz has provided employees with Pink Cards (valid for family members as well), which offer females up to 50% discount on various healthcare tests such as hormone profiles, and mammograms, among other women-related medical tests.

October 28, Pakistan: Shell Pakistan promotes biker and rickshaw refueling safety to its consumers and has launched a safety campaign, named “Ehtiyaat Bunay Hifaazat” (precaution means protection), aimed at creating awareness amongst 2-wheelers and 3-wheelers of the risks of staying seated on their vehicles while fuelling. An industry-level event was organized and attended by representatives of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), the Oil Companies Advisory Council (OCAC), and Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) in Pakistan to jointly collaborate and progress.
In Pakistan, there are approximately 25 million 2-wheelers and one million 3-wheelers. In the last five years, an estimated 2,000+ fuelling incidents have been reported in the industry related to the aforementioned vehicles. It is important for bikers and rickshaw drivers to get off their vehicles before fuelling their vehicle tanks. This practice significantly reduces exposure to gasoline vapors during refueling, reduces the risk of injury, and allows time to react in case of an incident.
Speaking at the occasion, the Chief Executive & Managing Director of Shell Pakistan Limited, Waqar Siddiqui, said: “Safety of our staff and customers is of utmost priority. We have embarked on a journey to create awareness about the safety risks while fuelling. Many a time it is not an easy dialogue, nevertheless, it is an important one. We have learnt from other countries that have been able to inculcate these practices. Shell Pakistan is keen to bring about this mindset and behavior change amongst people and to help drive this industry change.’
Every day, we witness the craze that TikTokers always manage to take to the next level with their ‘sometimes practical but mostly bizarre hacks’. In a recent event, people on TikTok, have found a new way to curl their eyelashes and it sure comes with its own set of concerns.
The Curling Hack
The eyelash curling hack doesn’t require an eyelash curler and neither does the thickest mascara wand in the world. This hack only requires a sleeping mask that does its magic while you are sleeping and requires little to no extra effort.
In a video with 7.2 million views and counting, TikToker @allyrbackus showed her followers how they curl their lashes naturally overnight — by sleeping in an eye mask.
#stitch with @alexis this is how i’ve given myself a natural lash lift over the past few months so i can stop putting chemicals on them every few months 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼 #nogatekeeping#lashlift#lashes#lifehack#fyp
“I used to get a lash lift every three months because I thought that was the only way to make them look longer,” said Ally in the video, “but then I realised you can train your lashes to sit like this naturally over time. All you do is put the sleeping mask on, but when you do so, have your eyes open not closed.” “Put it on tight and then close your eyes,” continued Ally.
“You’ll feel your eyelashes go up like this,” and you will wake up to your lashes sitting up like this all day every day. Then once you put makeup on, even longer.”
Is The Hack Worth It?
The beauty gurus and professionals were quick to jump in as they shared why trying the hack can go sideways.
“Just because you can achieve a more lifted lash look by trying this TikTok hack doesn’t mean you should. Please avoid this dangerous trend; you are submitting your eye structures to unnecessary trauma and harm,” says Diane Hilal-Campo, M.D., board-certified ophthalmologist.
“This is very dangerous for the eyes. Your eyelids are meant to close completely when sleeping. Any exposure from a lack of complete eyelid closure can cause drying and scarring of your corneas (aka the transparent layer at the front of your eyeball), which can cause infections and potential blindness,” she continues. “Additionally, if the fabric from the mask hits the corneas of the partially open eyes, it can cause painful abrasions and scarring.”
Hygiene is another big issue with the mask. Not everyone tends to wash them often. Bacteria can build up in the fabric of the mask, putting people at risk for acne, infections, as well as styes and blepharitis (inflammation of the eye).
According to experts using a hydrating lash treatment after taking off your eye makeup at night before bed, working it into your lashes to hydrate them is the most safest and foolproof way to achieve the look.
Luxury brands have a way of selling their products at hefty prices – give it to their name, marketing, or the actual product. While we have seen everything from the Gucci kurta to the Balenciaga trash can, another high-end brand is following in its footsteps by releasing a pair of bathroom slippers that costs around PKR 10,000. However, this isn’t even the actual price. The pair, without the sale, is costing almost PKR 20,000 and netizens have lost it.
The Viral Slippers
The picture of the slippers went viral on social media and netizens indeed had a lot to tell. The first reaction in most people was very similar. Many compared the pricey slippers to the evergreen Hawaii chappals found in every Desi household. Needless to say, Twitter is having a field day.
“It’s a bathroom slipper dude!!!!” wrote one user on Twitter. Another stated, “Bathroom chappals getting their day in the sun.” A third user commented that you could find the same pair of slippers in Chor Bazaar for Rs 50.”
People were appalled by the lazy, prosaic design of the slipper and course, the price tag that seemingly did not match the creativity and thought put into designing the product.
Consequently, many opined that they would not pay more than Rs. 150 for a pair of slippers that looked like that. “Even if I become a millionaire, I won’t buy a chappal for this amount,” said one user.
The award for the best response, however, went to this particular lad who shared that he bought the same slippers for Rs.160. Of course, without a designer’s name attached to it.
What are your thoughts regarding the designer piece? How much do you like to spend on a pair of bathroom slippers? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

People who suffer from anxiety disorders have problems falling asleep, and at some point, it can be difficult to distinguish between anxiety and sleeplessness. The reply can be both. The truth is that stress and anxiety can either start new sleeping issues or exacerbate old ones. Your mood is impacted by sleep deprivation, which can lead to irritation and occasionally despair. Here are some pointers to assist you in maintaining proper “sleep hygiene” so you may relax your body and mind:
Be punctual
Even on weekends, go to bed and get up at the same time every day.
Try relaxation strategies
Be aware. Try a relaxation technique that includes mindfulness, deep breathing, or meditation just before bedtime. These techniques all lengthen and improve the quality of your sleep.
Avoid screen time before bed
Early screen termination Avoid using digital gadgets before night because the blue light they emit—including TVs, phones, laptops, and tablets—can disrupt your body’s natural schedule. Choosing a tech-free activity to relax can reduce stress.
Warm showers do the trick
Take a hot shower or bath to unwind. Your body temperature will decrease as you transition from a warm bath to a cool bedroom, which will naturally make you feel drowsy.
Count sheep
Sheep count. Although it may seem absurd, it actually works. Because maintaining mental focus on a single task allows you to wind down, this is the reason. Until you feel more at ease, you can try concentrating on your breathing and deliberately taking deep breaths in and out.
Check your diet
For many hours prior to going to bed, stay away from caffeine, alcohol, heavy meals, foods that cause heartburn, and drinking a lot of liquids.
Regular Exercising
Exercise consistently. Exercise is a fantastic way to reduce stress and has been proven to enhance sleep, especially for those who struggle with insomnia. But watch out for scheduling your more strenuous workouts too close to bedtime. Try to work out at least three hours before going to bed.
Shift your mind or worry earlier
Try to avoid worrying at night. It can be very difficult to drift off when your mind is racing with worries while you try to go to sleep. Set aside 15 minutes each day to process these ideas. Making a to-do list or formulating solutions can help you manage stress and keep it from disrupting your sleep later.
Herbal tea helps
Drink some herbal tea. The body can be soothed and relaxed by chamomile and other herbal drinks, which can facilitate falling asleep. Make it a mini-routine to conclude your night by combining it with a nice book.
Don’t just keep lying down in the bed
Get out of bed and do something soothing till you feel tired, like that cup of tea and a book, if you are still having difficulties falling asleep after 20 minutes of turning out the lights (or if you wake up and can’t fall back to sleep after 20 minutes).

In the near future, your fast-food burger might be covered in seaweed. Fries, nuggets, and hamburgers can be a tasty treat. However, the packaging’s environmental impact can give you second thoughts. They frequently arrive in plastic that is resistant to oil. In order to prevent your treat from sticking, this packaging is frequently coated with environmentally hazardous compounds like polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs), which contribute to plastic pollution. These synthetic compounds can build up in the environment and in people’s bodies.
A German biomaterials developer and Australian researchers from Flinders University have collaborated to develop a biopolymer based on seaweed. Dr. Zhongfan Jia, the director of the Flinders Institute for Nanoscale Science and Technology, explains that it is just as recyclable as paper. The structure of the seaweed extracts is comparable to the natural fibers used to make paper, according to Dr. Jia. The innovative specialized processes, which make minor changes to the seaweed’s grease-resistance property, do not compromise the coated paper’s capacity to degrade or be recycled.
Seaweed To Make An Impact
The South Australian coastline is home to seaweed. Now, the German biomaterials business “one five” is attempting to scale up production from the lab to the factory. According to Claire Gusko, a co-founder of the business, the device may be fantastic news for the environment. With this product, she claims, “We are able to lessen hazardous plastic pollution, and we are also employing feedstock that is environmentally regenerative. Cultivating seaweed helps to naturally restore marine habitats, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and lessen coastal erosion.”

MNCs Taking Active Steps
Even multi-nationals such as Nestle are taking active steps to reduce their plastic usage. Following Nestlé’s pledge in 2018 to remove all single-serve plastic from its range and to have 100% of its packaging recyclable or reused by 2025, these are some of the first official proposals that have been made public. The corporation unveiled the Nestlé Institute of Packaging Sciences in December of last year in order to achieve this. Nestlé will create and test new packaging options at this development center in Switzerland for use by all 2,000 of its brands, from Dog Chow to DiGiorno.
The corporation seems to comprehend the extent of the recycling problem, at least based on its public discourse. Although recycling many plastics is technically possible, it is frequently not very practical or profitable for the frequently privately held recycling centers around the world to actually do so.
We must use sustainable inputs upstream to guarantee that the goods are safe for the environment from conception to disposal.

According to study, a lot of consumers keep their old phones rather than recycle them. The cobalt in rechargeable batteries and the copper in wiring are precious minerals that cannot be obtained from used devices and must be mined.
Worldwide, there are about 16 billion mobile phones; in Europe, just around a third, are still in use. The “mountain” of electrical and electronic trash, which includes everything from washing machines and toasters to tablet computers and global positioning system (GPS) gadgets, will reach 74 million tons annually by 2030, according to data by the WEEE. The Royal Society of Chemistry, earlier this year, started a campaign advocating the mining of e-waste to create new goods, emphasizing how international instability, such as the situation in Ukraine, affects supply chains for precious metals.
Importance of E-waste
Magdalena Charytanowicz of the WEEE claims that these devices offer many precious assets that can be used in the development of new electronic devices or other equipment, such as wind turbines, electric car batteries, or solar panels – all essential for the green, switchover to low-carbon societies.
Only a little more than 17% of the world’s e-waste is now properly recycled, but the International Telecommunication Union of the United Nations has set a goal to increase that to 30% by the end of the year. It states that because it may include dangerous elements as it is one of the “fastest increasing and most complicated waste streams that harms both human health and the environment.”
According to studies by the organization Material Focus, there are presently more than 20 million functional but underused electrical equipment stockpiled in UK households, with a potential value of £5.63 billion. It also estimated that the typical UK family might make approximately £200 by selling unused technology.
The impact of Geo-political situation
According to experts, mining the Earth for precious metals to create new technology is unsustainable; hence there is an urgent need to increase e-waste recycling. It highlights how the price of commodities like nickel, a crucial component in electric car batteries, has skyrocketed as a result of global upheaval, especially the conflict in Ukraine.
Chaos in supply chains that allow the creation of electronics is being brought on by this volatility in the market for materials. This led to the price of lithium, another crucial element in battery technology, to rise by about 500% between 2021 and 2022 when combined with the jump in demand.

The Three Gorges Dam in China is a magnificent structure that spans the Yangtze River and is so large that it could cover seven Wembley Stadiums with concrete and eight Empire State Buildings with steel. The Philippines might be entirely powered by its turbines.
How is the world heading to a clean energy crisis
The biggest power plant in the world, however, was strangely silent this summer. In late August, the water was still on both sides of the dam. Neither the typical white spray rising from the spillway nor the boom of water coming from the turbines could be seen. The reservoir has been considerably depleted due to extreme heat and a drought upstream, which has significantly decreased the plant’s capacity to produce energy.
An international hydropower dilemma that is being exacerbated by global warming includes the water problems of China’s famous mega-dam. Heat waves and droughts have caused rivers that feed reservoirs to shrink everywhere from California to Germany. Through September of this year, hydroelectric energy output in Europe decreased by 75 terrawatt-hours, which is more than Greece’s yearly use, while hydroelectricity output in China decreased by 30%. In September and October in the US, generation is anticipated to reach its lowest point in six years.
Are dams dependable in the near future?
Utility companies are being forced to reevaluate hydropower’s historic position as a dependable and quick source of green energy due to a harsh irony. Despite being the greatest source of renewable energy in the world, dams are becoming less useful in the fight against climate change due to harsh weather. In terms of planning power systems, the cycle provides “a warning signal,” according to Wenxuan Xie, Managing Con=nsultant at Wood Mackenzie Ltd. “You really need to consider the likelihood of severe occurrences and the possibility that possibly something you earlier considered to be extremely unlikely might occur more regularly.”
The issue is that there aren’t many green options that are equally accessible or versatile. On a global scale, hydropower produces more electricity than nuclear power and more than wind and solar power put together. Dams provide more than half of the total power in nations like Brazil and Norway. Furthermore, according to BloombergNEF statistics, big dams have traditionally been more dependable, providing electricity on average around 42% of the time as opposed to 25% for wind and 12% for solar. Additionally, grid operators may utilize them as dispatchable sources, which can be turned on nearly immediately when needed, like coal or gas. Unless there is no water, that is.
Renewable energy network to replace fossil fuels
The difficulties of constructing a strong renewable energy network to replace fossil fuels are highlighted by Hydro, particularly in developing countries that must also deal with growing power demand as per capita consumption climbs. As the expense of completing the energy shift rises, the drought difficulties also highlight the need to step up efforts to slow global warming, according to Li of Greenpeace.

We need to recognize there will be things we can’t prepare for or are too expensive to plan for. If we don’t address the issue at the core of climate change and cut emissions catastrophic losses will occur.

Chilli is a ride-or-die meal. You can never go wrong with this universal recipe – or maybe you can! If you add certain ingredients to the chilli. While the bizarre thought might have never come to your mind there are certain food ingredients which we never use with chilli and today, we crack down on the reason exactly why you shouldn’t even think about using them ever.
“Chili is a relatively healthy dish when prepared with quality ingredients,” says Trista Best, MPH, RD, LD at Balance One Supplements. “Chili is often made with beans, ground meat (beef or poultry), peppers, onions, and a wide variety of other nutrient-dense ingredients. A bowl of chilli can be a well-balanced meal all by itself.”
1. Crackers
While crackers can be the most convenient and ideal choice of chilli it is best to avoid them.
“Saltine crackers are a popular chilli topping, but their sodium and refined carb content make them troubling in terms of nutrition,” says Trista. “Saltine as well as oyster crackers are heavily processed and made with refined carbs, which are essentially void of any vitamins or fibre. All the beneficial ingredients that are in whole grain crackers are missing from these forms, and in turn, can have inflammatory properties.”
Bacon, with its high saturated fat and salt content, can easily overload any meal. Likewise, chilli is no exception.
“Bacon is high in saturated fat and also high in sodium,” says Olivia Sokolowska, MBA, RD at Salted Butter Kitchen. “Consider using turkey bacon, or adding smokiness in other ways with seasonings or charred vegetables.” If you need to watch your diet, skip the bacon crumbles next time you whip up a batch of chilli.”

While sour cream might be an ideal choice for many, it can add way too many calories and grams of fat to the meal. According to experts, choosing low-fat options or Greek yoghurt can help maintain the calories. Greek yoghurt is also great for a low-calorie option which adds a stronger flavour.
4. Full Fat Cheese
Full-Fat dairy products can easily take away the healthy part from the bowl of chilli turning it into a not-so-healthy meal. “Too much full-fat cheese will skyrocket the calories and saturated fat of the meal,” says a health expert.

5. Store-Bought Spice and Salt Blends
While a full-filling bowl of chilli offers a wholesome blend of spices, it is always preferable to add the homemade mixture rather than the store-bought ones due to their high sodium content.
“Pre-made spices and seasoning blends may contribute to an unhealthy amount of sodium,” says Tomaschko. “This is because they are rather easy to ‘overdo.’ These spices can range from garlic and onion salt to pre-made Cajun seasoning or chilli seasoning packets.”
