The reviews for Apple’s latest in-ear headphones, the AirPods Pro second edition, were overwhelmingly good (including here on Forbes). Among the characteristics that critics commended were the astonishingly superb noise-canceling, eye-catching features, and long battery life. However, some consumers are having a less pleasant experience since their AirPods Pro 2 aren’t working properly.

Although many still find their Airpods quite useful and living up to their expectations, some users have experienced audio drifting. Doesn’t it sound really charming? However, this implies that the audio alternates between the left and right earbuds when you don’t want it to. Some people attribute it to Spatial Audio, however, that is clearly not what that technology is intended to do. NADRA Launches ‘Rahbar’ App To Make Lives Easier For Citizens

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) introduced the ‘Rahbar Mobile App’ on Wednesday to help residents across Pakistan. According to facts, the Rahbar Cell App would assist citizens in locating the nearest NADRA Service Centre and much more with a few easy clicks on their mobile phones.

How will Rahbar app assist citizens?

Tariq Malik, Chairman NADRA, stated that residents residing in Pakistan would be able to learn about the location of the NADRA facility that is most convenient for them. Through their mobile phones, NADRA’s Rahbar App will assist residents in making well-informed decisions about visiting any NADRA centre by informing them of location, distance, number of applicants-in-waiting, and average processing time.

The NADRA Rahbar App will provide regular citizens with ease and auto-facilitation while also solidifying the direct collaboration between NADRA services and society as a whole. According to the chairman, such measures toward a digital Pakistan aim to turn NADRA offices into citizen service centres rather than only registration facilities.

Malik stated that NADRA’s services will now be visible to the public, making the authority transparent and responsible to the people of Pakistan, demonstrating the genuine embodiment of digital Pakistan and e-governance.

What does Rahbar app offer?

The NADRA Rahbar App will offer individuals much-needed information such as the number of people in line, processing time, and the location of NADRA registration sites in real-time, allowing them to organise their visit accordingly. Furthermore, the app would show the offices in both a list and a map format.

The map would also indicate the position of the nearest Mobile Registration Van as well as the registration office, making it easy for users to go to any NADRA facility. The Rahbar App also has criteria for sorting the centres, such as female-only centres, NADRA centres open 24 hours a day, and standard and Executive NADRA facilities.

Furthermore, the app includes an auto-refresh option that will run every three minutes to present residents with the most up-to-date information. The mobile app also has its own search engine, which allows users to search for NADRA offices by City, Name, or Location. The best part is that NADRA’s Rahbar App is available in both Urdu and English. Rahbar Mobile App may be downloaded through Google Play and Apple App Stores, which are easily accessible from everywhere in Pakistan.

The olfactometer uses valves to combine smells with virtual objects and can change the intensity of the scents. Researchers demonstrated this technology with a wine-tasting game where players get points for guessing the right aromas of the beverage.

“We hope that the new technical possibilities will lead to scents having a more important role in game development,” says Jonas Olofsson, professor of psychology and leader of the research project at Stockholm University.

“The possibility to move on from a passive to a more active sense of smell in the game world paves the way for the development of completely new smell-based game mechanics based on the players’ movements and judgments,” says Simon Niedenthal, interaction and game researcher at Malmö University.

How does Olfactometer work?

The olfactometer is composed of four valves that are connected to a channel. In the middle, there is a fan sucking the air into a tube. With the help of the computer, the player can control the four channels. They can open them to different degrees and provide different mixtures of scents. Scent blends that can mimic the complexity of a real wine glass. The game has different levels of difficulty with increasing levels of complexity.

“Just like a regular computer game gets harder as the player gets better. The scent game can also challenge players who already have a sensitive nose. This means that the scent machine can even be used to train wine tasters or perfumers,” adds Olofsson.

The research group at the Sensory Cognitive Interaction Laboratory located at the Department of Psychology, Stockholm University, is now considering that scented computer games can become useful for other purposes.

“For those who, for example, lost their sense of smell after COVID-19 or for other reasons. The new technology can mean an opportunity to regain their sense of smell with the help of game-based training,” says Jonas Olofsson, research team leader.

Oreos were not the first chocolate sandwich cookies on the market, despite their rapid popularity across the country. The Sunshine Biscuits had released the first similar cookie four years earlier under the name “Hydroxes,” but Oreos swiftly beat them in popularity. While the packaging has been updated several times since 1912, little about the sandwich cookies has changed; including the core appearance and name. Officially called a “biscuit,” “sandwich,” and “chocolate sandwich cookie,” it has always been known simply as “an Oreo”.

What does Oreo actually mean?

But what exactly does “Oreo” mean? The weird thing is that no one truly knows. According to ThoughtCo., there are several ideas concerning the origin of the catchy appellation, but its veracity remains unknown. According to one explanation, the name derives from the French word for gold, “or,” in allusion to the cookies’ original gold-colored packaging. Others say, it derives from a Greek root, maybe the Greek word for mountain, because the original cookie design was dome-shaped, as Rewind and Capture asserts.

It might possibly be related to the flower on the Hydrox biscuit, an Oreodaphne. According to the ultimate explanation, it is a visual depiction of the cookie, with “re” being two of the centre letters of “cream” sandwiched between the two circular, cookie-shaped O’s in “chocolate.” Nabisco has never verified or rejected any of these hypotheses. Hair Straightening Products Causing Cancer? Here’s What You Need To Know

A recent study suggests that women who use hair-straightening chemicals are at higher risk for uterine cancer compared to those who don’t.

The study conducted and published by the National Institutes of Health also found no association of uterine cancer with other hair products, including hair dyes, bleach, highlights, or perms.

The new study, led by the NIH’s National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, analyzed data from nearly 34,000 women in the United States from the Sister Study. The sister study was a decade-long study that looked at risk factors for breast cancer and other health issues among women ages 35 to 74.

The researchers found that women who reported frequent use of hair straightening products, defined as more than four times in the previous year, were more than twice as likely to go on to develop uterine cancer compared to those who did not use the products.

“We estimated that 1.64% of women who never used hair straighteners would go on to develop uterine cancer by the age of 70; but for frequent users, that risk goes up to 4.05%,” said Alexandra White, PhD, head of the NIEHS Environment and Cancer Epidemiology group and lead author on the new study.

“This doubling rate is concerning. However, it is important to put this information into context – uterine cancer is a relatively rare type of cancer.”

Uterine Cancer In Black Women 

Around 60% of women in the study who reported using chemical straightening products were self-identified Black women. Raising alarm about the prevalent uterine cancer in black women.

“Because Black women use hair straightening or relaxer products more frequently and tend to initiate use at earlier ages than other races and ethnicities, these findings may be even more relevant for them,” said Dr. Che-Jung Chang, an author of the study, alongside Alexandra White.

Dr. Madeliene Gainers, a board-certified dermatologist, called the study’s findings a “huge concern for Black women,” who have long used hair straightening and relaxing products in part because of the hair bias they face in society, including in workplaces and schools.

“Hair relaxers are problematic. They’re not strictly regulated and they’re not even required to list all the ingredients,” said Gainers.

“With hair relaxers, it’s such a harsh chemical it can cause lesions and burns on the scalp. It makes penetration of these chemicals that much greater and the scalp absorbs better, so it’s a huge problem.”

India not to travel to Pakistan for Asia Cup 2023, PCB responds

BCCI secretary Jay Shah, on Tuesday, said that India won’t travel to Pakistan for Asia Cup 2023, and hinted towards a neutral venue hosting the Asia Cup. Jay Shah is also the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). He said, “I am saying this as ACC President. We [India] can’t go there [to Pakistan], they can’t come here. In the past also, Asia Cup has been played at a neutral venue.”

This statement came just days after Cricbuzz reported that “India is open to traveling to Pakistan and it is certainly on the agenda of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). India’s clearance will, however, be subjected to the government of the time.”

The topic of traveling to Pakistan for the Asia Cup came up for discussion at the 91st Annual General Meeting of BCCI, in the presence of a new set of BCCI office bearers – President Roger Binny, Treasurer Ashish Shelar, and Vice-President Rajiv Shukla.

Jay Shah further said, “It’s the government which decides over the permission of our team visiting Pakistan so we won’t comment on that but for the 2023 Asia Cup, it is decided that the tournament will be held at a neutral venue.”

This sour statement came out amid the goodwill gestures among players of both countries during the T20 World Cup 2022 ahead of their much-anticipated clash in Melbourne on October 23.

The Pakistan Cricket Board has released a press release today as a response to Shah’s comments and rquested ACC to convene an emergency meeting to discuss this “important and sensitive matter”.

PCB has shown disappoitnment towards Jay Shah’s comments and raised concerns as in what capacity did Shah make such comments on behalf of the Indian board, given that he is also the Chairman of the ACC. Interestingly, it was decided under Shah’s presidency that Pakistan would host the Asia Cup 2023.

India last toured Pakistan for the 2008 Asia Cup, while Pakistan’s last tour to India was for the 2016 T20 World Cup. Due to political tensions, the two nations have not played bilateral cricket since Pakistan’s tour of India for a white-ball-only series in 2012-2013.

 

The Indian politicians need to understand that visiting Pakistan won’t hamper their chances in the next elections as the majority of the Indian population also wants to see the arch-rivals square off. Whenever the two countries meet on the field, it breaks viewership records; this is the reason, ICC places them in the same group in every ICC tournament so that more money can be made. The company is influencing people to use the bottle as a Diwali gift with a hidden message. How Do Solar Headphones Work?

Just like solar panels, solar-powered headphones work by converting light into energy and can deliver virtually infinite playtime, given the endless solar energy we get from the sun. As you can guess, they work better outdoors than indoors due to the direct exposure to sunlight.

On the surface level, the idea makes a lot of sense. You see, regular wireless headphones need to be charged either through a wired charger or a wireless charging pad; both options require you to wait for the device to charge till you can use them again.

The Swedish firm Urbanista and German sports giant Adidas, are the first ones to have solar panels built into their headbands.

Exeger – a Swedish giant has done the homework to develop flexible panels. They have nearly spent the past decade working to make them light, thin and powerful enough to do the job.

According to Exeger’s boss Giovanni Fili, “It is both a matter of convenience and, more importantly, doing the right thing environmentally.”

“Charging – everyone hates it,” he says. “But every time you don’t charge it is a good thing for the world. The new generation of young adults expect to be offered tools to do good [for the environment], and that is what we are offering.”

The solar panels are called Powerfoyle with a thickness of 1.3mm. The strip is composed of titanium dioxide covered in a natural dye. The dye absorbs photons from light, which are then converted into electrons. Meanwhile, the headphones still have a built-in battery that can power up to 80 hours of playback time.

Product Specifications 

The Los Angeles area standard Bluetooth 5.0 headphones support the universal SBC and AAC audio formats used by most devices and maintained a solid connection to various Apple and Android devices. The right ear cup has three buttons for controlling playback and volume. Taking off the headphones also pauses the music. The left ear cup has a button for adjusting the noise-canceling functions and a USB-C port for charging. The headpiece lacks the 3.5mm headphone socket making them difficult to use on a plane.

“Recently, an individual posted an image of National’s mango pickle with a foreign object beside it, claiming it has been found in our product. The customer was immediately contacted in the late hours of 8 October 2022. Post our conversation with him, we would like to highlight the following. 

  • He informed me that he is based outside Pakistan and that the relatives who found it cannot talk to NFL on the phone. We have requested an alternate contact number but haven’t received it so far.
  • The complainant is not sharing the product for testing.
  • A few other individuals have also posted the same image claiming that this incident happened to them.

Do You Love Late Night Munching? Here’s What You Need To Know

With changing habits and sleeping patterns, it has become quite common to eat late at night. While the discussion about late-night eating sessions and weight gain has been going around for a while – it is important to note how eating late at night influences our weight.

Some researchers hypothesize that eating at night goes against your circadian rhythm, which is the 24-hour cycle that tells your body when to sleep, eat and wake. Meanwhile, the idea that eating at night makes you gain weight stems from animal studies, which suggest that the body may use consumed calories differently past a certain time of day.

Night Eating & Weight 

Recent research conducted in the United States has found that eating four hours later than normal changes many of the physiological and molecular mechanisms that favour weight gain.

This finding adds to other recently published work which has found that eating earlier in the day is more beneficial for both appetite and body weight control.

The study included 16 participants who followed two different meal schedules, each for six days total.

The first group of participants ate their meals early in the day with the last meal consumed approximately six hours and 40 minutes before bedtime. However, the second protocol had participants eat all of their daily meals approximately four hours later. This group skipped breakfast and instead had lunch, dinner and an evening meal. Their last meal was consumed only two and a half hours before sleep.

The study ensured that the participants in each group consume an identical diet. The time between the meals was evenly spaced with around four hours between them.

Researchers included the following parameters as their study points,

  • The influence of appetite
  • The impact of eating time on energy expenditure (calories burned)
  • Molecular changes from fat tissue.

Study Protocol 

The study protocol included participants who rated their feelings of hunger throughout the day. The second protocol included blood sample collection to look at the levels of appetite-regulating hormones in participants’ blood. These hormones include leptin (which helps us feel full) and ghrelin (which makes us feel hungry). These hormones were assessed hourly over 24 hours during the third and sixth day of each trial.

Results

According to the results, late eating not only increased subjective feelings of hunger the following day, but it also increased the ratio of “hunger” hormones in the blood – despite participants eating an identical diet in both protocols.

Late eating also caused a decrease in the number of calories burned the following day. In the participants who did the fat tissue biopsy, late eating was also shown to cause molecular changes that promote fat storage.

While a significant answer as to why late-night eating promotes weight gain has not been found yet, the study shows that it’s probably the result of multiple factors working together.
