Pakistan Cricket Board Announced the Schedule of New Zealand Tour

New Zealand’s dual tours of Pakistan

After hosting full-strength Australia and England, Pakistan is all set to welcome New Zealand for a full-fledged series in two parts. The schedule of New Zealand tour has been announced by PCB today. The ICC World Test Champions will play two test matches as part of the ICC World Test Championship, and three ODIs which will be part of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League from 27 December to 15 January. They will return for the second leg in April, in which they will play five T20Is and five ODIs from 13 April to 7 May.

The first test match in Karachi (27-31 December) will be New Zealand men’s team’s first game on Pakistan soil since 2003. The Karachi Test will also be New Zealand’s first test match in the city since October 1990 when Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis rattled New Zealand’s batting line up sharing 15 wickets. New Zealand last played a test match in Pakistan in May 2002 Test in Lahore, where Inzamam-ul-Haq scored a memorable 329 and Shoaib Akhtar recorded first innings figures of 8.2-4-11-6.

In September and October of 2021, the New Zealand cricket team visited Pakistan to compete in three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and five Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). However, on the morning of the first ODI New Zealand Cricket (NZC) reported a security threat, which led to the cancellation of the entire tour. Nonetheless, both cricket boards agreed in December 2021 to play extra matches in Pakistan in April 2023 to compensate for the canceled tour.

The first leg of the tour for two Tests and three ODIs is part of the ICC’s FTP (Future Tours Programme), while the second leg in April/May is to make up for the abandoned September 2021 tour.

Zakir Khan, PCB Director – International Cricket, said while announcing the tour itinerary, “New Zealand is one of the high-performing sides and the more we will play against the top teams in our backyard, the better we will get as a unit, which is crucial to our objective of featuring inside the top-three across all formats. The New Zealand matches will also provide opportunities to our youngsters to continue to watch and follow their favourite players in action, something they have missed when we were forced to play our international cricket offshore.”

New Zealand will begin the second leg of the Pakistan tour in Karachi with four T20Is (13, 15, 16, and 19 April), followed by the fifth T20I and two ODIs in Lahore (23, 26, and 28 April) and the last three ODIs will be played in Rawalpindi (1, 4 and 7 May).

David White, New Zealand Cricket Chief Executive, expressed his excitement about the upcoming tour, “The BLACKCAPS are very much looking forward to the dual tours. New Zealand and Pakistan share a terrific history in international cricket and there is genuine respect between the two teams as well as the two boards.”

He added, “I know our players can’t wait to arrive and savour the experience of playing in Karachi, Multan, Lahore and Rawalpindi –places that carry a great cricketing heritage.”

New Zealand will be the third high-profile cricket side to tour Pakistan in 2022, after Australia and England. Australia toured Pakistan in March/April, for the first time in twenty-four years. They competed in three tests, three one-day internationals, and one Twenty20 international. Followed by the England team, who visited Pakistan after 17 years and played seven Twenty20 Internationals in the first leg last month. They will return in late November after T20 World Cup, for test matches in Rawalpindi, Multan, and Karachi in December.

Chris Pratt In The Film

It is him. Mario is played by Chris Pratt in the film. In 2021, co-producer Chris Meledandri stated that Pratt will not perform the stereotypical role of the video game plumber in the unanimated Mario movie. However, Nintendo released a teaser video for The Super Mario Bros. on Thursday, and Pratt sort of revealed the voice he selected.

In all honesty, the eagerly anticipated Pratt as Mario’s voice was a bit disappointing. It has… Perhaps a hint of Italian in the few words Pratt uses? Or is he simply speaking in his usual voice? As he embarks on his Mushroom Kingdom quest, Pratt’s Mario mainly only reacts to losing his breath.

Ignoring Teething Problems

The overdone, stereotyped voice was definitely not going to be used by Pratt. However, since so little of him can be heard in the teaser, it’s difficult to predict how his Mario will sound. He doesn’t say any of Mario’s well-known catchphrases, such as “Wahoo!” or “It’s me, Mario.” When a lengthier trailer is released, maybe more will be revealed. The animation is more vivid, and there is a better chance to hear some of Jack Black’s terrific Bowser.

Pratt’s voice, or at least what we heard of it, didn’t impress the audience.

What Does Pratt Have To Say?

In a video clip that precedes the teaser, Pratt discusses how he used to play Mario games on a machine at his local laundry, saying, “It’s been a longtime ambition of mine to be Mario.” That’s good to know, but how that dream will come true is still up in the air.

First Review Of The Legend of Maula Jatt: “Terrific in every way” Cinema Owners Claim

9th October, 2022: A special screening was held for ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’ on the 7th of October at Cue Cinemas, Lahore, ahead of its release on 13th October.

Cinema exhibitors from all over Pakistan were in attendance at the screening and have acclaimed the movie as the ‘perfect blockbuster’ and have predicted it to have a huge box office opening.

Mr. Ashiq Ali, owner of Shabistan/Prince Cinema, Lahore, who was present at the screening said, “Interestingly, the original “Maula Jatt” was screened at our Shabistan cinema in 1979 and ran for a good 2 years over here. I had the opportunity of seeing “The Legend of Maula Jatt” and it is legitimately a great film. I loved the cast and it will prove to be another blockbuster by Bilal Lashari. It will satisfy the fans of the original and will even make new ones along the way. Although the plot is very dependent of that of the original, I found the film to be better than the original in almost every way!”

Haji Tariq of Taj Mahal, Cinema, Faisalabad reflected similar sentiments and said, “I think the makers have made an international standard film which is highly entertaining and will provide value of money to the audiences. I think, it is the most ambitious film to be made in Pakistan, ever. Each and every scene of the film reflects the hard work of the makers”.

The movie has been hailed ‘terrific in every way’ by cinema exhibitors as they went on to praise the film’s high-quality treatment.

According to Mr. Farrukh Rauf, owner of Capri Cinema, Karachi, “I was blown away! Nothing like this has been done in Pakistani cinema before. The film is terrific in every conceivable way. The action and sound design is crazy and intense. The story evolves and you are on the edge of your seat throughout the film. I was not prepared for how emotional it was too. The entire cast has performed very well, especially Fawad and Hamza. Being Karachi based, I had my doubts that the Punjabi language of the film might act as a hindrance for its business there. However, after seeing the film, I can safely say that it is not the case. I expect the film do great business at the box office.”

TLOMJ is Pakistan’s most expensive production to date and the filmmakers have focused on every little detail. Leveraging VFX expertise from global cinema production and an international stunt team to train the cast, the film has audiences brimming with anticipation for a movie that has established many “firsts” in the Pakistani cinema.

Produced by Noman Khan, Sherdil seems a lot more than an acrobatic show of jets. Soon after the release of Parchi, film-maker Azfar Jafri announced working on this grand project which stars Armeena Khan and Mikaal Zulfiqar in the lead roles.

According to the makers, the movie displays women in a powerful role rather than objectifying them as an eye-candy to gain audiences attention. Jafri’s fourth venture also stars Sabeeka Imam and Hassan Niazi.

Let’s see if Sherdil lives up to all the hype.

Karachi Se Lahore 3

Penned by Yasir Hussain, Wajahat Rauf announced the third installment of Karachi Se Lahore in August and will be hoping for an Eid ul Fitr release.

The makers of KSL3 promise to bring a full dose of entertainment to the viewers with an ensemble cast including the writer Yasir Hussain himself, Shahzad Shaikh, Ayesha Omar, Kubra Khan, and the internet’s favorite couple Zara Noor Abbas and Asad Siddiqui.

Apart from Meera, the features Osman Khalid Butt, Ali Kazmi, Mohsin Abbas Haider, Amna Ilyas, Nisho, and Nayyar Ejaz.

Meera’s comeback movie ‘Baaji’ is expected to hit the theatres in mid-2019.

Nothing Changed Except The Venue | Pak Vs Ban | Tri-Series

Pakistan defeated Bangladesh handsomely with 21 runs in the first game of the tri-series featuring the host New Zealand too. Mohammad Rizwan bagged man-of-the-match for his 50-ball 78, at a strike rate of 156. As the title says, ‘Nothing changed except the venue’, this match followed the same pattern as the matches in the series against England.

Pakistan team took the fight for New Zealand a few hours after losing the final match to England in the historic 7-match T20I series. However, the Pakistan team took the fortunes (good or bad is up to you) of the England series to New Zealand as well.

The only change was the strike rate of Babar Azam, which came down from his normal 105ish strike rate. Rizwan anchored the innings until the middle overs, completed his fifty, accelerated the innings, and lost his wicket in the process. Although, he is the only consistent batter in the current Pakistan line-up, but he needs to play attack from the start.

Then we have Shan Masood, who is trying to solidify his case and silence the critics who have been after his life, only after two matches, he started well, but couldn’t capitalize. Followed by our wibbly-wobbly middle comprising of Haider Ali, who is richly talented yet failed to play at his full potential in international cricket. He has all the tools to be a match-winner, however, the way he is playing at the moment is questionable.

Iftikhar, on the other hand, has been selected after his performances in the domestic circuit, be it PSL or National T20, yet, he has not been able to replicate that kind of performance with the national team. And then we have Asif Ali, the match winner in the eyes of social media. Khushdil Shah was not part of this match, but he is part of the troubled trio with Asif and Iftikhar.

Back to today’s match, Babar fell early, Rizwan scored 50, Shan played some pleasing shots but fell cheaply, and after that our middle order collapsed just like they have been collapsing since Asia Cup 2022. Bowlers performed not so outstandingly but enough to win the game against troubled Bangladesh, who is also without their regular captain Shakib al Hasan.

The way Pakistan is playing ever since Asia Cup is going to cause troubles at T20 World Cup in Australia. If this middle order couldn’t capitalize on slow Asian wickets, then how would they cope with extra bounce on pace-friendly tracks in Australia? Mark Wood made life miserable for Pakistani batters on Karachi’s wicket, imagine how difficult would it be to face the world’s best fast bowlers that too on fast pitches down under. There are too many questions in Pakistan, and Pakistan has only a few matches before the T20 World Cup to find their answers because World Cups can’t be won banking on one or two players and prayers only.

NIC Karachi and The Asia Foundation launch the ‘Impact Collective’ initiative to address the most pressing climate crisis issues in Pakistan

October, 2022, the National Incubation Center Karachi, in collaboration with The Asia Foundation, launched the ‘Impact Collective’. The initiative is a consortium of organizations committed to initiating research and technology-driven dialogue to address the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) issues in Pakistan.

This consortium has brought together academia, think tanks, entrepreneur support organizations, and civil society organizations to discuss and solve the most pressing issues related to climate change and its adverse effects on the environment and society.

The event called for a panel of experts that discussed the importance of research and technology in the fight against climate change and how initiative like the Impact Collective can empower academic institutions in researching climate change on a grassroots level. The panel consisted of Durlabh Ashok (Climate Advocate), Afia Salam (Climate Activist], Dr. Noman Ahmad (Dean Architecture & Management Sciences NED University), Farva Minhas (Program Coordinator, The Asia Foundation). The Asia Foundation also launched an app to engage, educate, and mobilize the masses to take action on addressing the climate crisis. This app will serve as a platform to disseminate information and insights about climate change and will also help climate activists organize and coordinate their activities.

The event also hosted three social entrepreneurs who are building climate resilience by implementing disruptive solutions. In their keynote speeches Emaan Danish, Founder – Earth Warriorz, Shahzad Qureshi, Founder – Urban Forest Initiative, and Ahmad Shabbar, Founder – Garbage CAN, stressed on the urgency and importance of climate change, they urged the startup ecosystem to embed Environment Social and Governance framework in their bottom line to ensure the climate change is halted and reversed in time.

As a testament to LMKT’s commitment to the livelihood and economic rehabilitation and restoration of the flood affectees across Pakistan, Project Director NICK offered a donation of PKR 1 Million on behalf of LMKT to The Citizen’s Foundation at the event’s conclusion.

What’s Going On?

No matter how you feel about Elon Musk, there is no denying the technical command of Tesla’s vehicles. Tesla’s electric drivetrains offer more power and range than practically anything available in the market. However, there are some valid and understandable worries over their semi-autonomous driving capabilities.

The manufacturer recently announced on Tuesday that it would remove a group of sensors. This would leave Tesla with only cameras to navigate its surroundings. The automaker seemed unconcerned by the probes and legal action that could come its way.

The Difference in Sensors

Previously, radar, six cameras, and 12 ultrasonic sensors were all part of Tesla’s first sensor suite (USS). However, now the USS will be removed from the Model 3 and Model Y this year. Moreover, the Model S and Model X will follow suit in 2023. The decision could result in financial savings for Tesla following BMW’s decision to put a price on everything.

This will also ease some of the load on the already-stressed semiconductor supply. However, even if it does that, it won’t change the opinion of those who already believe that the manufacturer exaggerates the capacities. Is there anything such as Full Self-Driving and Autopilot technologies?

Are There Drawbacks To This?

There are some drawbacks to the move because this is Tesla, duh! Autopark, Park Assist, and features like Summon/Smart Summon are all fully functional in vehicles with USS only. Future Tesla models without those sensors will only be able to use a subset of those functions. This too until the carmaker releases software updates that activate and enhance their capability. The car manufacturer pointed out also that the temporary restrictions on some features wouldn’t affect the vehicles’ crash test results. They are not compromising on safety.

Through this alliance, Beaconhouse will provide 100 academic scholarships annually, to aspiring professional cricketers aged 11, 14 and 16 years.

The initiative is aimed towards the education and development of the future stars of Pakistan cricket who will be provided access to free education at Beaconhouse campuses across the country, enabling them to become well rounded professionals.

The partnership further promotes Beaconhouse’s belief in providing the youth with diverse avenues to help them reach their full potential and promotes the holistic development of youngsters that will consequently enable them to become educated and skilled players on the national as well as international level.

#FamilyFirst: TikTok reinforces commitment to safety with its Family Pairing feature

TikTok is continuing its efforts towards family safety with its unique Family Pairing feature, which allows parents and teens to customize their safety settings based on individual needs. With its #FamilyFirst initiative, TikTok aims to create awareness on how parents can use Family Pairing Feature to monitor activities on their teens’ accounts including DMs, notifications, watch and download settings, forming an important part of TikTok’s ongoing commitment to support and care for the safety of youths on the platform.

Family Pairing allows a parent to link their TikTok account to their teen’s and set controls including:

  • Screen Time Management: Control how long your teen can spend on TikTok each day, with the option to choose between 40 to 120 minutes.
  • Restricted Mode: Limit the appearance of content that may not be appropriate for all audiences. Even without Family Pairing enabled, parents can help their teen set Screen Time Management and Restricted Mode by visiting the app’s Digital Wellbeing controls at any time.
  • Direct Messages: Restrict who can send messages to the connected account, or turn off direct messaging completely. With user safety in mind, TikTok has many policies and controls in place for messaging already – for example, only approved followers can message each other, and TikTok does not allow images or videos to be sent in messages. TikTok also automatically disables Direct Messages for registered accounts under the age of 16.
  • Manage privacy and security settings: Parents can decide who can like or comment on their teens’ videos, decide whether their account is private or public or whether their account can be recommended to others. Parents can also decide whether their teen can search for content, people, hashtags, or sounds.

TikTok has collaborated with some of Pakistan’s most popular celebrities and creators who will be creating exciting content to amplify TikTok’s endeavours around family safety, especially focusing on its younger users aged between 13 and 19.

The embrace of platforms like TikTok is providing families with joint tools to express their creativity, share their stories, and show support for their communities. At the same time, they are often learning to navigate the digital landscape together and focused on ensuring a safe experience.

With families in mind, TikTok has taken a number of steps over the past year to improve and enhance its teams, policies, controls, and educational resources. The platform has made its policies more transparent and accessible, grown its trust and safety teams, built upon the resources in its Safety Center, also available in Urdu, and partnered with leading online safety organizations.

Al-Ghazi Tractors Launches 2023 Models on its 40th Anniversary

To commemorate 40 successful years of its existence, Al-Ghazi Tractors Limited (AGTL) has introduced new 2023 models with high gloss paint features for all New Holland tractor variants.

The new 2023 models will be offered for the following models: 480s, 480 Power Plus, Ghazi, 640, 70-56, and Dabang. In addition, AGTL is going to take the market by storm with a special batch of New Holland’s Trademark Blue-colored Tractors for the first time in Pakistan.

The brand-new models will enable farmers to have higher yields, thanks to AGTL’s cutting-edge technology for planting, cultivating, fertilising, and harvesting crops. The upgraded variants are highly durable, fuel and cost-efficient. The models will also feature 2023 engraved Chassis Plates.

Speaking at the 40th anniversary of the company, Malik Ehtisham, Chief Executive Officer, AGTL, stated: “AGTL lauds all of its devoted customers and partners who have stood by it through thick and thin over the years.
