Syngenta’s Cropwise Grower App Now Allows Farmers To Diagnose Crop Pests & Diseases

Lahore: 29th November, 2022 – Syngenta Pakistan Limited, a leading agriculture innovation, and technology company – providing crop protection, biologicals, seeds, crop-enhancement products, and digital services to millions of Pakistani farmers, has successfully launched the updated version of its “Cropwise Grower” app which will now allow the farmers to conveniently detect and diagnose crop pests & diseases by simply taking a picture of a crop while also guiding farmers about the recommended products and application technology – all in 5 seconds time with over 93% accuracy versus the usual human accuracy of 72%. This ‘Snap, Diagnosis and Solution’ feature, powered by an artificial intelligence technology company called Plantix, gives a competitive edge to the Cropwise Grower app among all the other locally-available apps – this is a first-of-its-kind offering in the crop protection industry.

The Cropwise Grower app also provides growers with access to agronomic advice, weather forecasts,   recommendations on choosing the right time for spraying during the day, historic weather trends for the past 6 months and insights into the respective region’s crop disease problems for more tailored solutions.

Through this app, farmers will be facilitated in increasing their yields through timely advice and access to remedies by employing a preventative approach versus the treatment approach for farmers in the region – if a disease is detected on a particular crop in one location, all farmers in that areas are alerted to keep a watchful eye for the disease.

Zeeshan Hasib Baig – General Manager of Syngenta Pakistan – shared that “Syngenta Pakistan’s core strength lies in its relationship with the growers. To further strengthen the grower-connect, we want to “delight” our growers by bringing smart solutions closer to farmers that can enable them to be more self-sufficient. We have always believed that technology can be a key enabler in helping farmers grow efficiently and sustainably. The Cropwise Grower app is a revolutionary step in the crop protection industry and we firmly believe that it will help in addressing Pakistan’s food security challenges by building resilient food systems and by supporting our farmers in improving their crop yields.”

Using any Android smartphone, the farmers can easily download this app from the Google Play Store (Link: ‘https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cropwisegrower.pk’).

Tips For Traveling To Beautiful Northern Areas In Pakistan

There is no shortage of beautiful tourist locations in Pakistan that are just waiting to be discovered, whether it be the entrancing green meadows in Kaghan Valley or the stunning snow-covered mountain peaks in Gilgit-Baltistan. Even while these tourist hotspots are completely secure for both lone women travelers and kids, you can’t just pack a bag and head off to discover these genuine bits of heaven on earth. This is why we have created a list of suggestions to make sure you have no issues when traveling.

Avoid the monsoon season

If you intend to visit the northern regions during the summer vacation, try to schedule your trip before July because that is when Pakistan’s rainy season begins. Being trapped in the rain in the middle of a mountain road may be extremely dangerous since excessive rain can cause landslides. The period of persistent rain often lasts until October, following which the winter season starts. Therefore, before the end of June is the ideal time to take a visit. But keep in mind that it might start raining at any moment. Therefore, always have a raincoat or umbrella nearby.

Try not to flash your expensive belongings for safety

No matter where you are traveling, this is one of the most crucial regulations. Even though Gilgit Baltistan and other northern Pakistani regions have very low crime rates, you should nevertheless refrain from dazzling jewelry and pricey devices when traveling. Furthermore, it’s usually preferable to have a little cash on hand. In Pakistan, practically all popular tourist attractions have ATMs that you may use to withdraw cash if necessary.

Go for lowkey places up North

Beautiful spots abound in Pakistan’s northern regions and are just waiting to be discovered. Even though Hunza and Chitral valleys have heavy visitor traffic year-round, there are still a number of settlements in these areas that haven’t been featured in travel guides. Instead of visiting well-known locations, try to visit more obscure ones. For instance, while having breathtaking landscapes, the villages of Arang Kel in Azad Kashmir and Minapin in Nagar Valley—two of the most attractive spots in Pakistan—remain underappreciated tourist destinations. Include these locations in your vacation itinerary, please.

Leave your fast food obsession at home

The traditional cuisine of Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir is renowned and very well-liked by tourists. It’s always best to experience the local food and specialties, even if it’s simple to discover restaurants selling desi, Chinese, and even continental cuisines in this neighborhood. To be sure it doesn’t include anything to which you could be allergic, make sure to inquire about the contents before ingesting anything.

Avoid Trekking unless experienced

Tips For Traveling To Beautiful Northern Areas In Pakistan

Pakistan is a paradise for hikers and climbers because of its grand mountain ranges and tall peaks. While vacationers from all over the world go to northern Pakistan, you should exercise caution if you want to go climbing or trekking alone, especially if you have no prior expertise. Since the Himalayas, Karakoram, and Hindu-kush ranges are home to many famous trekking routes, ascending these peaks without the right equipment and preparation may be rather risky.

In addition to these tips, make note of layering up since you don’t want to catch the flu and spend your vacation eating medicines and calling your doctor at home. A medicine box and warm thermals are a must whenever you’re thinking of taking a trip up north and make sure to always have an umbrella on you.

These Were The Killer Phones Under PKR 45,000 In 2022

What a year 2022 has turned out to be – through ups and downs, the smartphone industry went through many hoops. While the year started on a high note with many smartphone launches, it is culminating on a rather sombre note – given the industry situation. However, as we look back at the year with positive hopes for the technology industry, here is a list of smartphones that captured our imagination below PKR 45K.

realme C35 (PKR 38,999/-)

Oh boy! What a design marvel was the realme C35. With its Glowing Silk Design, this phone was surely an eye turner, especially in its Glowing Green avatar. With a current price tag of PKR 38,999/-, the realme C35 is a unique all-rounder that packs a punch both inside and outside. With a Unisoc T616 Octa-Core processor, it clocks a top-speed high performance delivering a 6.6-inch Ultra Smooth Display and 5,000 mAh battery to give you juice for an entire day. Another good aspect of the phone is its 50MP AI Triple Camera that takes great photos. The realme C35 comes in a 4GB + 128GB storage setup which makes it perfect for storing photos, videos, games, and all your favourite apps without the lag.

Infinix Note 12 (PKR 42,999/-)

Another powerhouse smartphone in our list is the Infinix Note 12. With attractive specs and 6.7-inch AMOLED display, the phone just makes it to our list being “almost affordable” at PKR 42,999/-. It comes with a 50MP AI Triple Camera and a 16MP Front camera and 5,000 mAh battery. The phone is powered by a Mali G57 Octa-core chipset, which might be a tad bit uninspiring when pitted against the other phones in its price bracket. With a storage space of 8GB + 128GB, this can be the phone’s saving grace.

OPPO A57 (PKR 39,999/-)

While Oppo F21 Pro was all the rage this year, the company also slipped a smartphone aimed at the affordable segment. At PKR 39,999/-, the Oppo A57 like its counterparts comes with a 5,000 mAh battery – the segment standard. It features a 6.53-inch IPS LCD display and is powered by a PowerVR GE8320 chipset, that doesn’t deliver a punch in its performance. This makes the phone slightly undesirable over its competitors.

Tecno Camon 19 Neo (PKR 37,999/-)

Sitting nicely in this price bracket, here’s a phone that impresses with its camera. The Tecno Camon 19 Neo has a 48MP Triple Rear Camera and a 32MP Selfie Camera giving all selfie lovers the best value for their money. On the processing front, the phone may not please all with a Mali G52 MP2 chipset that lags in performance. The phone has a 6GB + 128GB storage setup, so what it lacks in performance, it makes up in storage.

Krave Mart Launches Private Labels to Reach Sustainability & Profitability

Krave Mart has entered the private label market to meet consumer demand for high-quality premium products at competitive pricing.

Krave Mart began operations with 16+ categories, with 3000+ SKUs housing numerous brands. The product mix for the clientele base made sure there was a balance of both food and non-food necessities. This is where Krave Mart subsequently entered the Private Labeling Initiative.

Beginning with staples like common spices and kitchen necessities like eggs and sugar, Krave Mart successfully released more than 100 private-label SKUs with the goal of providing their customers with high-quality goods that are – sourced, packed & delivered with love.

The current private-label product includes:

  • Kdaily (Spices, Eggs, Lentils, Value Added Flour & Dry Fruits.)
  • Kfresh (Fruits & Vegetables, Exotic range of F&V)
  • More products in the pipeline

In fact, for these products’ Krave Mart’s margins doubled, demonstrating their importance as major components of Krave Mart’s sustainability and achieving profitability in the current market.

By far the quickest eCommerce/online platform in the area, Krave Mart was able to meet intermittent stock shortages that would have interfered with the goal and introduce a wide variety of private-label SKUs.

“With 100+ private label SKUs live on the platform today and increasing, the backward integration has enabled us to significantly improve on our availability ratio, keep quality controls in check and double down on our margins to drive sustainable growth,” as Ahsan Kidwai Co-Founder & Chief Commercial Officer at Krave Mart, states.

What is Private Labeling:

Private labeling refers to the practice of contracting with suppliers for the product(s)’ sourcing, manufacture, sorting, and packaging in order to sell them under an owner-designed brand label.

Private Labeling comes with promising advantages which benefit organizations with:

  • Customer Loyalty: It instills a sense of belonging in the existing consumers as they feel part of the few that have access to the limited edition products; thereby increasing loyalty and sales volume.
  • High margins: Private labeling definitely yields higher margins as there are no branding and packaging premiums attached to the products being sourced directly.
  • Exclusivity: Private labeling gives complete liberty to promise exclusivity to customers in terms of branding, good marketing and creating its demand that in terms gives an edge over branded retail products.

Due to Krave Mart’s commitment to customer-centricity and providing the ideal product mix, its suppliers have the same goals for sustainability and high-quality production.

As brands (who hold private labels) already have access to customer patterns, insights, and preferences that might not be as available to FMCG producers, private labeling is the future of consumer products with the potential to even lead the categories.

The Out of Home campaign was deployed in collaboration with Kinetic Pakistan.

We should include the Xiaomi 12 Pro on our short list without a doubt. It comes with the most recent Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 CPU, one of the greatest screens in the business, four immersive speakers, and a 120W power converter that can recharge the battery incredibly quickly.

Excellent photo and video quality is provided by the Xiaomi 12 Pro’s triple-camera system, which is also adaptable enough to be a flagship. Yes, the UW camera could have used autofocus, and the zoom camera could have had a larger field of view. However, Xiaomi makes up for its shortcomings with superior processors and sensors.

  1. Oppo Find X5 Pro

Another fantastic Find arrives this year with the Find X5 Pro, continuing a tradition of strong flagship Oppos in the high-end market. Although the Find X5 Pro model no longer includes the special microscope camera, it nevertheless resembles the Find X3 Pro. Even so, it provides top-notch hardware and performance where it counts.

The telephoto camera’s major drawback is that it only offers a 2x zoom, but other unique features like the exclusive MariSilicon X image chip and the 5-axis OIS deliver great photo and video quality.

  1. Vivo iQ00 9 Pro

Numerous unique features are available, like LTPO 2.0 E5 AMOLED, 3D ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, 120W fast charging, and even the BMW Motorsport logo.

Even though it doesn’t have impressive zooming capabilities, the camera on the rear provides excellent photo and video quality and dazzles with video stabilization. Our favorite features included the iQOO 9 Pro speakers and the quick 120W wired charging, in addition to the screen, battery life, performance, and camera.

Most of them weren’t always getting rich. Here are some 10 suggestions from wealthy people on how to make your money count.

  • Cheap and proud of it

“When you open the paper and see those coupons, it appears like dollar bucks are glaring you down… This is how I grew up. So why not?” – Actress Hilary Swank addresses talk-show host Kelly Ripa on coupon clipping.

  • Not spending money is the same as making money

“So, if I save $2,000 by not traveling first class, it’s the same as if someone paid me $2,000. Wouldn’t you sit in an uncomfortable chair for three hours for $2,000?” – A successful plastic surgeon.

  • Going to ATM once a week and paying for everything with cash

“That way, I’m forced to stay on a budget without counting pennies and saving receipts. I can spend only what is in my wallet. I turn it into a game where each week, I reduce my ATM withdrawal amount by $20 to determine how low I can really go.” – Alan Corey, author of A Million Bucks by 30

  • Gutsy with their jobs

“When negotiating a new wage, always conclude with a request for a nine-month review rather than the standard 12-month evaluation. It is always authorized, and it provides you with a three-month head start on a future wage increase or bonus.” – Alan Corey

  • They’re just like us

“Millionaires often pay approximately $16 for a haircut at a standard barbershop, including tip.” – University of Georgia Survey Research Institute researchers

  • They aren’t as smart as we think

“When you have money, it’s astonishing how much wiser everyone believes you are. I was asked to speak at a conference I had been wanting to speak at for six years two days after I sold my firm.” – Peter Shankman, entrepreneur and angel investor.

  • Don’t quit till you get the deal

“I once went all the way to the top of Dell’s customer service for an issue with an out-of-warranty computer, and I was delivered a new one the following day. If you are ready to work your way up the chain, you will almost certainly find someone who is willing to bend the rules to resolve a complaint and solve the problem.” – August Turak

  • Accept risk to achieve success

“I was working at AOL in the 1990s when the company let go of 300 people. I was one of them. The movie Titanic was coming out, so I took my rent money and had 500 T-shirts printed that read, ‘It sank. Get over it.’ If I didn’t sell those shirts, I was homeless. I sold 500 shirts in six hours and made five grand. Then I called USA Today and gave a reporter the story. I sold 10,000 shirts on the Web over the next two months and ultimately racked up 100 grand. That was my very first company”. – Peter Shankman

Fourth Adab Festival Kicks Off On A High Note

Karachi, Saturday, November 26, 2022: The first day of the two-day Fourth Adab Festival
opened to a mammoth crowd here today. People of all ages could be seen jostling with one
another as they rushed from one interesting session to the other so as not to miss out on their favourite speakers and authors. Habib University students participated in sessions and there was a good representation of the youth at the Festival.

The morning session began with the inauguration ceremony in which the national anthem and Adeb Festival Song were sung, followed by the welcome address by Ameena Saiyid Founder and Director, and Shama Askari Director, Adab Festival. Speeches by Zehra Nigah, Maria Rehman, Deputy Director, British Council, Wasif Rizvi, President Habib University, HE Dr. Ruediger Lotz, followed after which Tariq Alexander Qaiser and Sherry Rehman gave keynote addresses. Dr. Tanveer Anjum was awarded the Adab Festival/Infaq Foundation Prize 2022 for Urdu Writing and Sheema Kermani performed a dance.

Ameena Saiyid thanked Mr. Murtaza Wahab, Mr Iqbal Memon, Commissioner, Karachi, British Council, Habib University, Lightstone Publishers, BARD Foundation, Institute of Business Management, Bank of Punjab, General Shipping Agencies Ltd, GETZ Pharma, EDLINKS, Pakistan International Container Terminal, Bilal Sons, Habib Metropolitan Bank, Mr. Manzoor of Frere Hall, Starlinks PR and Events, Mr. Afzal, Metropolitan Commissioner, DIG SSU Karachi, Deputy Commissioner, District South, Municipal Commissioner, District
South, Additional Inspector General Police, Karachi Range, Ms Sara Amjad, Assistant
Commissioner (Headquar- ters) Karachi, Mr. Junaidullah, DG Parks, Dr. Maqsood Ahmed,
DIG SSU, and Sister Elizabeth, Principal of St Joseph’s Convent School Karachi for their
support of Adab Festival.

Ameena Saiyid said, “The theme of the Adab Festival this year is the climate crisis. Adab
Festival is a new Silk Route through which our traditions and culture, literature, the arts and their luscious fruits can travel and enter the hearts of people in every part of Pakistan
and the world. Through Adab Festival, which is free and open for all, we want everyone in the community to love, experience, and enjoy literature. The Adab Festival belongs to Karachi and our community which is why we are having it in an open public space.”

Marrya Rehman, Deputy Director, British Council, said, “We know that Pakistan is at the
very cusp of the climate crisis, and its large youth population must be part of the long-term
solution for tackling this global challenge. At the British Council, we have brought underrep- resented voices – especially those most affected by climate change – into the
conversation, for example, by ensuring women and marginalised groups can participate in
climate research and grant opportunities. Through arts and culture, we can bring young
people together to connect and collaborate on creative responses to the climate emergency. The Adab Festival aims to stimulate conversations around the climate emergency and inspire transformational change.”

Wasif Rizvi, President Habib University, said, “Pakistan will soon be unliveable for
humans. Extreme weather events – disastrous rains, lethal floods, devastating droughts and heatwaves – have made such unimaginable catastrophe a lived reality for the people of Pakistan. Change in Pakistan will likely have increasingly terrible impacts on food security and water scarcity. Despite this existential threat, Pakistan has done little to impact the mainstream climate change narrative. Habib University is an intellectually vibrant institution that considers it our responsibility to initiate critical discourse highlighting the severity of such existential threats. Habib University’s intellectual programme is aimed at making society think beyond existing narratives and fostering alternative possibilities. The theme of the 4th Adab Festival – ‘Climate Change’ – is close to Habib University’s mission of working towards protecting our ecosystem, hence we are delighted to play our part by joining hands with Adab Festival.”

Standard Chartered And Karachi United Launch Fifth Football Youth League

Karachi, 25 November 2022: Standard Chartered Bank (SCBPL) announced the launch of its “Standard Chartered Karachi United Youth League” as part of its community service mandate to promote sports amongst children. This is the fifth year in a row that the Bank is sponsoring the league in what has become part of the local football fabric and culture, for the opportunity the league provides to over 1000 children annually.

The objective of the “Standard Chartered Karachi United Youth League” is to provide a platform for youth football teams from across the underserved areas of Karachi to come together, break barriers and inculcate the spirit and culture of sport and competition.

At the beginning of the year, Standard Chartered Bank and Karachi United also organised a Youth Football League in Islamabad where more than 400 children (boys & girls) participated.

The Bank has been sponsoring this league since 2017, supporting over 4000 children through sports.

This year’s league will see 1084 boys’ competitions in the following age categories: Under 10 years, Under 12 years, Under 14 years, and Under 16 years including a Government School competition. The format is that of a group system from which the top teams qualify directly for the quarter-finals and beyond. The Standard Chartered KU Youth League will also increase girls’ participation (through a Girls’ tournament) this year to 120 girls.

A total of 213 matches will be played in six different locations including Old Golimar, Shireen Jinnah Colony, Malir, Baldia, Ibrahim Hyderi, and Orangi Town, which promises to attract football fans from all over Karachi. In order to increase the standard of the league, kits are provided to each participant along with the appointment of official referees and match commissioners for every match.

Commenting on the sponsorship, Rehan Shaikh, Chief Executive Officer, Standard Chartered Pakistan said, “Standard Chartered is proud to partner for the fifth year with Karachi United to bring to you the “SC KU Youth League”. In line with our brand promise Here for good, it is a unique event spread over the next few months, which aims to bring underserved communities together. We hope that through Football we can bring a positive social benefit to our society.

Over the last four years more than 4000 children went through the SC KU league experience which was not only restricted to Football, but also included coaching in life skills, teamwork and other areas of life in general. The Bank has had a long association with football and we are proud to be leading such a transformational initiative with Karachi United in Pakistan.”

Imran Ali, CEO, Karachi United said, “We would like to thank Standard Chartered for their continued support of the Youth League as it has become part of the community culture and football calendar. Such is the impact of the league that community stakeholders and coaches have already been in preparation for the last three months. This has helped engage with the youth in an organised and healthy activity.

Additionally, and significantly, in line with SC’s Future Makers program, we have started witnessing former Youth League participants become coaches for their teams and continue their education. We are committed to this program and look forward to developing more Future Makers as a result of this league.

Lastly, our coaches continue to benefit from the linkage with Liverpool FC’s Train the Trainer program. The syllabus and coaching methodology has been implemented across all Community Centres and we now look forward to engaging Government schools to amplify the impact.”

How Biotech Can Revolutionize Healthcare

Image Source: Karpagam Academy of Higher Education

Biotechnology, or biotech, and its applications are expanding at a rapid pace, transforming sectors such as medical, agriculture, energy, and chemical and materials via the development of previously unimagined goods and processes.

The Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution in Serbia (C4IR Serbia) was recently established at the Biotech Future Forum, which brought together forward-thinking businesses, governments, and academia to discuss and promote the advancement and application of biotechnology, particularly in medicine and healthcare.

Here are the recommendations of prominent specialists from various industries.

How is biotech shaping our future?

How Biotech Can Revolutionize Healthcare

Biotechnology and artificial intelligence (AI) have far-reaching potential and influence. Academics and experts anticipate a massive upheaval driven by the combination of new technology and conventional structures.

Biotechnology in healthcare, for example, has increased efficacy by boosting medical customization and specifically developed therapies. Combining biotech with AI and big data will aid in the digestion of the complex data created by the healthcare sector, uncovering deeper and richer patterns for therapy.

Even outside of the medical system, people’s daily meals, exercise regimens, and personal care might be transformed to promote health and mitigate the effects of an aging population – and this is just in healthcare.

How can governments create an ecosystem for biotech?

Image Source: Future of life institute

The government connects the dots and actively participates in the development of a robust biotech ecosystem. In the instance of Serbia, Prime Minister Ana Brnabi described it as a “if you build it, they will come” attitude.

Promoting significant domestic investment in science and technology infrastructure, skills, and change can pique the interest of overseas investors. The country’s ICT sector has expanded from €3.7 million in earnings to €2.5 billion this year thanks to a deliberate plan to accelerate digital transformation.

According to Prime Minister Brnabi at the Biotech Future Forum, this has made biotech Serbia’s largest exporting industry as well as the largest producer of new employment.

Any new technology brings with it new difficulties, but it is the government’s responsibility to turn those issues into possibilities. Innovation will always move ahead of investment and regulations, and a foresighted government will make its legislation nimble to keep up with technological progress. This entails revising legal frameworks, developing visions and strategies, establishing cross-sector discussions, and allowing development financing. Collaboration is essential in this process.

What are businesses doing to accelerate biotech innovation?

From start-ups to global corporations, ecosystems must drive innovation, not ‘ego-systems’ governed by people or small groups of stakeholders. According to experts, the chance for innovation exists at all times, but the lack of a unified objective might stifle its progress.

Huma, a creator of digital-first health solutions, described how, at the height of COVID-19, developments that would typically take six months were completed in two weeks.

People were drawn to enterprises with a sense of “shared responsibility” for a single purpose to break the pandemic deadlock as quickly as feasible. However, now that such collaborative activity has ceased, the timelines for advancement have grown once more.

As a result, any cooperation should be developed at the “eye-level”: if one side understands the other’s motives, it is simpler to combine forces and achieve a single goal.

It is also critical to create processes that allow for successful decision-making. Due to complicated decision-making frameworks, the larger a company, the more difficult it may be to drive quick judgments on investment in, say, biotech research or trials.

To eliminate gaps in decision-making, implementation, and design, businesses might establish a basic understanding of their technology in senior leadership. They can also boost access to high leadership or empower decision-making down the chain.

Given the potential of new biotech in healthcare, as well as many other sectors involving human interaction, we must collaborate to ensure that economic development does not imply a decline in human well-being.
