1. Keep Location Off When Not in Use

Everyone wants their friends and acquaintances to know where they are, that’s why they use their ‘Location’ feature for applications like Facebook and Instagram to sign-in into places.

Many individuals are unaware though that by keeping the location services on, they are wasting battery life. Make your Smartphone last longer by turning off the service once you have shared your location.

2. Turn Off Extra Push Notifications

All of us want to be notified about the latest activities that occur on our social media. Push notifications were made for the same reason, to keep you updated about every activity that occurs. However, being lazy we do not turn off the notifications for the applications that we do not use, and that takes a toll on the battery.

This is mainly because the notifications light up the display screen, use vibration or sounds, and depending on the settings you have selected, they can be extended and can repeat. In order to save battery and improve battery life, you need to turn off the notifications for the extra applications.

3. Avoid Using a Live or White Wallpaper

Nowadays, Android Smartphones use AMOLED screens, iPhone users do not have to worry about this one as the iPhone display does not. For those whose phones have AMOLED screens, when you use a white or light colored wallpaper, each pixel in the screen takes up battery life in order to power up. Using a black or dark wallpaper prevents the pixels to use battery power.

Try using dark or black themes for all applications as well.

4. Use Airplane Mode when Stationary

If you are traveling and your phone is of no use, or if the phone is lying around, or charging, place it on Airplane Mode whenever possible. The phone will always be connected to a cellular tower, causing strain on the body. By switching to Airplane Mode, you save your battery by avoiding notifications, messages, calls, Wi-Fi alerts, etc.

Keep in mind that you will not be able to make any calls or messages while Airplane Mode is activated unless over Wi-Fi connectivity.

5. Download Applications to Help

Android users can download the Snapdragon BatteryGuru application by Qualcomm, the same company that processes and manufactures the processors used in the phones.

The application learns the habits of the individual who own the phone so that it can find solutions to how to save power. This application is not for iPhones, however, there are many other applications on the iOS platform built for the same purpose.

6. Delete Un-Used Applications and Clear Out

Many applications are running in the background and the user is unaware.

The applications then aggressively consume the battery, impacting the lifespan of the phone. In order to stop these applications from eating-power, you can go to ‘Manage Applications’ and ‘Stop’ or ‘Force Stop’ them.

7. Brightness to Minimum

Brightness consumes your battery life too- in order to make your phone battery last even longer, keep it to as minimum as possible. Make sure that there is no strain on your eyes, using your phone with squinted eyes will damage them very badly.

8. Keep Wi-Fi Off

Whenever you put your cell aside, make sure your Wi-Fi connectivity is off in order to avoid the usage of extra battery power. Wi-Fi connection means being connected to all applications that run on it, like Facebook, WhatsApp, Viber, Instagram, Snapchat, etc.

All applications are always on standby, and once connected, they will run in the background, sending notification after notification, wasting crucial battery juice.

9. Keep your Phone Cool

A hot phone means a hot battery, and a hot battery means that your phone will consume even more power. In order to make your phone last long, make sure it keeps cool. Do not lock and unlock it every now and then just because you are bored, or there is nothing to do. Doing so will only damage your Lithium-Ion battery.

To say that Lahore is the ‘it’ place for the best cuisine from around the world, would not be an overstatement. Lahore has some of the most celebrated food cafes, offering a wide variety of very tasty dishes to their customers.

Here’s my pick of the 5 top food cafes in Lahore. It wasn’t easy to rank the food places; the competition was intense but there were only 5 slots to fill. So here goes..

Café Barbera

Located amid a hub of restaurants on M.M Alam Road, this café stands out because of its fancy and chic look. They have introduced the Italian cuisine in Pakistan in the most authentic way possible. A single glance at their food items will show you a number of new names and kinds of food; a very risky but successful endeavor.

Their thin, crispy crust pizzas and the out-of-the-world pastas are absolutely scrumptious. The chicken that they serve with their pasta is smoked to perfection.

They also have a coffee/tea/shakes and dessert corner; their chocolate fudge cake is just extraordinary.

I celebrated my last birthday there and they even played the birthday song for me.

All in all, it’s a really good place to have a kitty party or spend some time with your significant other.

Butler’ Chocolate Café

This is yet another remarkable café that has walls lined with mirrors and boxes of chocolates. As for its name, don’t let it fool you, they have a lot to offer other than chocolate food items and other assorted desserts.

Their ice creams and chocolate cakes are too good to be true. I love how they serve most of their desserts, hot cakes with a scoop of ice cream. I couldn’t stop admiring their presentation when the waiter set down the plate in front of me.

I tried their chicken, which was juicy and heavenly, and then also bit into some pesto pasta, which I have to admit was just as delicious as their chicken. They also offer appetizers, burgers and panini.

F.R.I.E.N.D.S Café

If you are a fan of the TV Show F.R.I.E.N.D.S, it would be shame if you don’t visit this café at least once. They have divided the entire building into two sections. The lower section is for people who want to fine dine, the upper section though is an entirely different story.

The upper section is set entirely in the image of the Central Perk featured on the series. The wall against the stair case features the characters and some of their most memorable lines, they have set up sofas just as those in Central Perk and to make things interesting, they also have a fooseball table like the one Chandler and Joey had in their apartment.

They offer burgers, paninis, chicken of different kinds and pastas along with deserts, coffee and other drinks. Their food is admirable too, it tastes perfect, their helping is of a gracious size and they present it well also.

This is the perfect place for a friends hang out, besides it’s not that formal and you have sofas to sit on as opposed to chairs.

Located on the M.M Alam Road on the first floor, this café is for all the avid readers. The owners have really gone all out to make this café a safe haven for the book lovers. With books lining the ceilings, book shaped tables and wall paper representing pages from different books, the interior of the café looks nothing less than a scene from Alice in Wonderland; funky and exciting.

With delicious food items and a very unique setting, this place can fulfill all of your dreams of a perfect get together.

Gourmet Restaurant

Last but not the least, one of the most sought out ‘desi’ restaurants has to be the Gourmet Restaurant! The reason is simple, the place is neat, the food is good, the variety is extensive and all of this comes at a very reasonable price. In Lahore they have two branches that I know of and both of these branches are always full of customers.

For families and gatherings that like to taste a variety of foods they also have different food platters.

This place is not exotic or unique, but it’s an excellent place to eat at if you feel like eating at a good restaurant at a low budget.

According to a statement released by Tattiana Spottiswoode, there have been allegations made against Zia Chishti, a 50-year-old Pakistani-American, founder of Afiniti. Since Tattiana’s testimony has surfaced, Zia has been viewed in a different light, as he should be. The news also affected the Pakistan Stock Market on Thursday as Chishti is also the CEO of TRG Pakistan Limited.

There is no excuse nor justification that settles the case of assault and harassment. People keep talking about evidence and proof and they never think about the victim. Instead, we have this victim-blaming mentality among people here.

Zia Chishti is a Pakistani–American sexual harasser and predator.

Next time you wonder what a predator looks like. Remind yourself of his face.

Zia Chishti And Harassment

This could definitely be one of the first good steps that can be taken against such a personality. We don’t believe that he is innocent and he should stand justice for what he has done. Being a personality of a high stature does not grant him the ability to walk free of any crime. Every person is the same in the eyes of the law and we want to see him brought to justice. If you would actually listen to the testimony or read the verbatim, you would understand what we are talking about. To think that people still want to defend him after listening to the testimony is saddening and shocking both! Can they not understand the depth of the crime, the intensity of it?

This is a person who has shown no mercy or remorse in doing what they did. In fact, they seemed to be enjoying themselves at the expense of the other’s person’s pain, misery, and suffering. How long can we allow people with entitlement and power to keep moving in such a way? Zia Chishti has stepped down as the CEO of the company but it should not stop here. More steps have to be taken. He has done something for which there is no excuse nor forgiveness. Anyone who sympathizes with his situation clearly does not have the brainpower to comprehend what exactly has happened.

At times, we wonder what it takes for a person to commit a crime. We think about what must go through the mind of a criminal before they are to commit something. We cannot even imagine how the victim feels after they have been the subject of a crime. All crimes are horrendous in nature, with some more than the rest. Being sexually assaulted or harassed is not something that should ever be taken lightly. It is something that can mentally destroy a person and leave them feeling quite vulnerable.

Justice Is Needed

We hope to see the victim get the justice she rightly deserves. Why did she have to suffer at the hands of a brute just because he felt so? Reading the testimony might just make your blood run cold. Anyone who defends a harasser is not up to any good on their own because they don’t seem to know the difference between right and wrong. Yet, you’d find many of them being hypocritical when something like this doesn’t happen. There has to be accountability for actions so they have a fear in them and think twice before committing heinous and grotesque acts.

We have to be patient and see how the events unfold and stay in full support of Ms. Tattiana. She deserves our support in this difficult time and we hope she finds a way to heal as time goes by. There are lines that can never be crossed, no matter how dire the situation, and a line has been crossed here. We need justice and we need it to be swift! Too long have criminals walked free under the banner of popularity and ‘Status’. It is time to make them realize that their actions have consequences!

It may seem redundant but it is anything but.

4. The Good Place

This show has some weighty themes but they are well-supported on the pillars of pure comedy. This show on NBC will have you thinking hard and laughing harder. The storyline isn’t revealed explicitly, all we know is that the protagonist has died. From there onwards, all the characters explore their new life i.e. death.

5. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

This show follows a girl as she enters New York City and tries to start a fresh life. However, this ain’t just some random fresh start. Kimmy Schmidt had spent the last 15 years as part of a doomsday cult. How will she start her life now?

Starbucks, on Thursday, opened a new store located between New York City’s Park and Lexington avenues, and it features Amazon Go’s Walk Out Shopping experience. This tech lets you pick up coffee, tea, and snacks and go on your way without having to stop at a cashier.

This concept store combines Amazon and Starbucks products. You can also stop for your Starbucks drink. At the same time, you turn to the Amazon Shopping App to use an “In-Store Code” or Amazon One. You use the palm of your hand as your identifier. Then you can enter the Amazon Go market and the store’s seating lounge. Joining the Amazon Go market will be like entering any other Amazon Go store. It will allow you to pick snacks off the shelf and automatically add them to your virtual carts.

The Collaboration

The two powerhouses are teaming up to create “a common vision to provide innovative in-store experiences that are centered on the customer.” Says Dilip Kumar, Amazon’s VP of physical retail and technology, in a statement.

Dubbed Starbucks Pickup with Amazon Go, the system gives customers the ability to choose their experience.

“Whether it is utilizing the Starbucks and Amazon apps to purchase food and beverages on the go, or deciding to stay in the lounge for the traditional third-place experience Starbucks is known for,” Starbucks executive Katie Young said.

When guests take any item off the shelf, it will immediately be added to their virtual cart. However, if customers put back an item, it will come out of the cart. Once the customer leaves the Amazon Go market portion of the store, their card will be charged. According to the release, the receipt is expected to follow within a few hours, if not faster.

Items that will be available for pickup include classic Starbucks fare. The menu consists of Sous Vide Egg Bites, breakfast sandwiches, and protein boxes. In addition to items found at other Amazon Go locations, including its Kitchen Turkey and Cheddar Sandwich and the Buffalo-Style Wrap.

The Manhattan location’s opening coincides with Starbucks’ Red Cup Day. Meanwhile, you can claim a free limited-edition reusable cup if you order a holiday or fall beverage at participating US stores.

Other times it may just be easier to holler than to learn strategies to become a calmer parent.

There are many responses you can choose when faced with a situation that makes your blood boil. Finding peace is possible! Learn to manage your anger and arrive at a peaceful solution using these strategies.

1. Think About The Consequences

It’s tempting to run with your exasperation in the short term, but giving in to rage can cause even more challenges. Before lashing out at your kids or taking what you consider appropriate actions, consider how things will be when the smoke clears.

2. Self Reflect

Well, the popular host, Nida Yasir has landed herself in yet another controversy for an episode themed around saas-bahu. This time she had invited pairs of mother and daughter-in-law to talk about the issues they were having that led to fights.

The idea behind the saas-bahu talk may just be nice. People should indeed talk their problems out. Not talking about what they are struggling with leads to the wound festering. And that becomes the basis of the saas-bahu fights most of our Pakistani dramas are based on.

Well, Nida Yasir invited the pairs and told them to give their point of view of what might be the struggle and how the other person is falling into the expectation arena. In the clip, you can see the mother-in-law saying that she is not happy with her bahu being a working woman. She says that she was indeed looking for an educated and beautiful woman for her son but one who chooses to stay home. What is terrifying is that not only were Pakistani dramas overflowing with the saas-bahu masala, now the morning shows will be rampant with it too. Nida is usually the initiator, and other morning shows follow suit. She used to have celebrities have pretend-weddings/. And when it wasn’t celebrities, she would have underprivileged people marry on her show. This sparked a whole theme of weddings on morning shows. Soon, everyone was doing it.

There was another instance where morning shows began having makeup artists prepare brides, or Mehendi artists applying bridal Mehendi. All of this, just for ratings? And now, to maintain ratings, the host invited saas-bahu to have a fight on-air; how low can the shows get?

Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) launches an app especially for travelers to ensure their safe travels. Given that recently, PIA and civil aviation have been under the spotlight for incidents more than usuals, this seems a good measure to counter that.

The application is for Android users only for now since as you know most applications make it to iOS App Store fairly late. The name with which it has been put up is PCAA Hazards and its goal is to become passengers’ go-to app whenever they encounter a hazard or incident in-flight. The Voluntary Hazard/Incident Reporting System. Passengers will be able to contact the authorities at CAA directly for areas such as hazard, incident, accident, damage, deficiency, violation, failure, or in-flight services.

PCAA Hazard’s aim is to give user-friendly platform and resources to the general public and
stakeholders for identifying and reporting hazards and incidents.

Located at Baitul Mukarram, Azam soup is reportedly the best soup in town. It is super tasty, and the chips laden on the soup are incredibly spicy and tasty as well. What is more is that it is super economical. I mean, can you imagine a good starter at only PKR 60. And if you want it with an egg, then it is PKR 90. Now, whenever you hear of soup, you will immediately think of Chicken (of course, that is, if you are a karachiite, if you are from Lahore, well donkey or rat or anything can roll).
