Pakistanis Say YouTube Is The No.1 Online Video And Music Platform

Karachi, 25 November 2022: YouTube hosted its first-ever YouTube Brandcast in Pakistan to celebrate YouTube’s creator community, and to share the latest insights, updates, and inspiration from brands succeeding on the platform. At Brandcast, YouTube also spotlighted how the platform is supporting the Pakistani creator ecosystem by building a reliable, multi-format platform that enables creators to build local and global communities that meet the evolving needs of their audiences.

According to Google and Kantar’s Unlocking Digital in Rural Pakistan research, YouTube is the most popular online video platform in Pakistan with 62% of online Pakistanis ages 18-24 reported watching YouTube once a month or more.

In fact, out of all Pakistani internet users, 91% say YouTube makes them feel positive, 78% consider YouTube to watch their favorite shows and content, 76% learned something new from YouTube, 75% claim that content on YouTube helped them dig deeper into their interests, 73% get the video content for all their moods on the platform.

The same study found that 48% of rural Pakistanis are now online, of which 78% watch YouTube. Of those that watched YouTube, 76% say that YouTube has unique content they can’t find anywhere else.

Farhan S Qureshi, Country Director Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, at Google, said, “YouTube is about making connections and finding a community you can call home. It’s where viewers come to learn, unwind, and connect with their passions. The platform empowers people by not only giving them a voice but also financial stability. Since the platform resonates well with people of all ages and from all areas, it is no wonder that YouTube creates deep connections between brands, creators, and audiences in urban and rural areas of Pakistan.”

More content; stronger community

At the heart of YouTube are creators, who are helping build genuine connections by delivering personally engaging content. Whether long or short form, there is something on YouTube that will fit the bill. In the first quarter of 2022, the watch time of videos grew significantly compared to the same time last year. Digital marketing videos grew by over 95%, web development videos grew by over 90%, exercise videos grew by over 80% and live television videos grew by over eight times.

The total hours of content uploaded to YouTube by channels in Pakistan from June 2021 to May 2022 grew by over 25% when compared to the same time the year before.

YouTube’s multi-format creativity gives creators every screen and every format possible to succeed

This healthy growth in content uploaded to YouTube includes short-form videos via YouTube Shorts which was launched in July last year. Globally, YouTube Shorts is now averaging 30 billion daily views, growing four times from a year ago. Shorts has been hugely successful in Pakistan as well, a testament to Pakistanis’ evolving preferences in how they choose to consume content.

Marc Lefkowitz, Director of YouTube Partner Development and Management (APAC) added, “We have creators developing diverse content for podcasts, sketches, automobile reviews, tech reviews, tutorials, gaming, and more. There are more than 5,400 YouTube channels with more than 100K subscribers. That’s an increase of 35% over last year. More than 350 of these channels have more than a million subscribers. The platform intends to continue to extend its support to Pakistani creators so they can pursue their passions and build careers in a responsible manner.”

As of June 2021, the number of YouTube channels making 1 million PKR or more in revenue is up over 110%, year over year. Whether a Pakistani from a remote village in Punjab or a metropolis like Karachi, YouTube has proven to be an effective medium for communication across the languages of Pashto, Sindhi, Punjabi, Balochi, or Urdu; enabling everyday Pakistanis to turn their passion into full-time careers.

How To Make Web3 Safer For Users?

Web3 — the world of blockchain, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and cryptocurrencies — is devilishly difficult to use for a product designed to democratize everything from investing to activism to art.

Purchasing Bitcoin or Ethereum is as simple as opening an account with one of the numerous recognized exchanges and attaching it to a credit card (or source of funds). Initially, the problem with Crypto was that it could not be used on anything except illegal purchases on websites like Silk Road. All of that changed with the rise of NFTs and decentralized autonomous organizations, which enable users to purchase digital art, invest in musicians in exchange for a portion of their royalties, or join clubs that grant access to IRL activities such as concerts or networking events. However, taking part in these initiatives — or working inside Web3 in general — necessitates the ability to comprehend and act on smart contracts written in code, frequently in seconds.

It might take days to learn how to invest early in an NFT that piques your interest or claim a reward for your contribution to someone else’s project. The difficulty is that some NFT initiatives do not have a website, so you must rely on Twitter to find out what is being given and how to acquire it. There might be several sets of instructions, made more confusing by inconsistent advice from users on Discord, the major site for Web3 discussions. Some of the advice is well-intended yet inaccurate, while others are malicious.

What solutions could lead to a safer Web3 experience?

Most cryptocurrency fans desire more precautions against scammers and other ethically questionable individuals. Here are 2 actions that might be made at the hardware, application, and community levels to make the space more welcoming.

  • Create a more complete user experience. The fact that most consumers cannot understand transaction requests offers an evident barrier to adoption and a simple opportunity to be deceived. It would be quite beneficial to use simple language to demystify transactions. What monies are being transferred? Which way should I go? When signing a transaction, what rights does the user grant?
  • Make instructional materials available. The NFT sector is decentralized, and self-custody is a key component of Web3. This is a significant departure from Web 2.0. Educational tools will aid in the safe integration of new people into the space.

Web3 might become the next paradigm, but only if the community tackles the usability and security issues that now plague this arena.

10 Things To Stop Buying That Will Save You Tons Of Cash

10 Things To Stop Buying That Will Save You Tons Of Cash

Cut these simple things out of your life and you’ll be amazed at how much money you can save.

1. Lunch bags

Sure, your plastic lunch bags are convenient, and we’ve become accustomed to purchasing box after box. However, repeated purchases of single-use plastic bags mount up at the end of the year. And they are adding to (negatively) our growing plastic pollution problem. Although reusable silicon sandwich bags are more expensive at first, they are infinitely useful. These non-toxic bags seal effectively, are biodegradable (when they have finally passed their use-by date), and are microwave safe. They are easy to wash and reuse.

2. Impulse buys

We’re not just talking about the goods that attract your attention while you’re hungry or waiting in line – though those are hard to resist as well. We spend so much time online that it’s simple to see something we never realized we wanted and then, with a few flicks and swipes, have it on its way to us in minutes. To avoid impulse purchases, make it a rule that all things in an online shopping basket must wait in the cart for at least one day before being purchased.

3. Cleaning products

So many of the store-bought cleaning products that take up cabinet space might be substituted with a few pantry staples (cleaning vinegar and baking soda are two that top the list). Making your own is simpler than you think; it’s primarily a question of habit, and the appropriate formulae do work. Make a commitment to replace one of your normal cleaning products with a homemade alternative.

4. Paper towels

Although microfiber cloths are more expensive than paper towels, they last far longer. Invest in a supply of attractive cotton napkins that are color-coded for various cleaning tasks and wash them as they become dirty. You can easily prevent paper items from entering your kitchen in this way.

5. Greeting cards

The sum of all those $3 and $5 transactions is significant. You may also save money on postage by switching to free e-cards rather than mailing them across long distances. Can’t handle the idea of not allowing them to possess anything? If creating cards appeals to you, go for it! (Hold a card-making activity in the afternoon to create a supply.)

6. New clothes

Stop before you buy new and think about cheaper (and more environmentally responsible) antique and thrifted things instead. Visit op stores to find the newest fashions. Op shops have a lot of online substitutes as well. Vintage objects, defined as those that are 25 years old or older, provide excellent statement pieces for special events.

7. Eating out

According to Eating Out in Australia, eating out costs Australian households about $5,000 annually. No one wants to stop going out entirely, but there are several strategies to reduce that number. Consider bringing lunch more frequently to work or school. Go out at happy hour, meet for lunch rather than supper, or choose a potluck meal at home utilizing whatever food is in your kitchen instead of an occasional evening out (make it enjoyable so it doesn’t seem like you’re skimping).

8. App and in-app purchases

Plan a time to go over your app subscriptions and cancel any that you are no longer using. (Automatically recurring monthly subscriptions are simple to forget about.) If there are any that you do use that have a disproportionately high in-app purchase rate, investigate free or inexpensive alternatives. You might also decide on a monthly cap that you feel comfortable over before disabling in-app purchases. Use applications to save money instead. This is what Apps like You Need a Budget are made to do.

9. Bottled water

If you haven’t already, it’s time to quit paying for bottled water when you can obtain it for almost nothing at home. If you’re concerned about the flavor or quality of your water, consider purchasing a water filter. Sparkling water is also not inexpensive. If you’ve discovered a taste for bubbly water, try purchasing a Soda Stream and making your own. You’ll also be reducing the amount of plastic in the environment. And you won’t have to haul large shopping bags full of items that you can obtain from your tap or water filter. Also, get a reusable water container so you can carry water with you and refill it at water fountains.

10. Name-brand items

While some generic products do not match in quality to their higher-priced brand-named equivalents, it is also true that other generic products are almost similar. This is true for hundreds of products, including patent pharmaceuticals, food, and home goods.

Beauty Experts Debunk 10 Skincare Myths

Beauty Experts Debunk 10 Skincare Myths

A cosmetic chemist and a board-certified dermatologist (Claire Chang and Ni’Kita Wilson) tackle 10 popular skincare myths.

They demonstrate how drinking water does not necessarily improve the appearance of your skin and how you cannot truly decrease your pores. They also dispel the myth that acne is solely a puberty issue. Adult acne is prevalent, and therapy normally takes 6 to 8 weeks to show improvements.

1. Drinking extra water will make your skin look better

Although drinking enough water is vital for your general health, there is no scientific proof that drinking more water gets directly to your skin or improves skin hydration. Excess water is almost certainly filtered out of your body via urine.

2. The order in which you use your skincare products doesn’t matter

Dr. Chang says the order is important. In general, apply your products from thinnest to thickest, with active components going on first.

3. Pores can get smaller

Our pores are the same in size. What might happen is that your pores swell because oil can attract dirt, debris, and dead skin cells into them, causing them to swell. They get engorged from all the debris that gets caught in there, and then when they’re cleaned out, they just return to normal size. However, the walls can be compromised, causing them to tilt and become weak. This, in turn, may alter the appearance of your pores.

4. You don’t need to moisturize your face if it’s oily

Dr. Chang says that there is a distinction to be made between skin oil and skin moisture. Skin hydration refers to the skin’s water content or moisture levels, whereas skin oil refers to the sebum content. So, sebum is released by your facial oil glands, also known as sebaceous glands, and it aids in the protection of the skin barrier. However, because sebum may contribute to an oily, greasy appearance on the face, individuals dislike it. Remember that oily skin can get dried and have a low water content, thus moisturizing is still necessary.

5. You don’t need to wear sunscreen, even when it’s cloudy

When it’s gloomy or sunny, you should apply sunscreen. The only time you should not wear sunscreen is when there is no sunlight. It’s late at night. Even though you can’t see the sun, UV radiation is still present. They’re still around. And it is the UV rays that do the harm. And you need sunscreen regardless of your melanin load.

6. The more expensive the product, the better it works

Many of the products advised are inexpensive and can be bought at any drugstore. Wilson believes that the efficacy of the components and the formulation is far more important than the price.

7. The more you wash your face, the better

The more you wash your face, the worse your skin may become. For starters, you are eliminating the microbiota. You’re putting everything off balance, which compromises your skin barrier, and a weakened skin barrier can lead to inflammation and discomfort.

Over-washing your face, especially with harsh soaps or scrubs containing beads, may greatly dry out and irritate the skin. Dr. Chang recommends washing your face twice a day, and then again after heavy sweating because perspiration can clog the pores and irritate the skin even more.

8. You don’t need to exfoliate

Gentle exfoliation is beneficial to everyone. Exfoliation can help revitalize and brighten your skin, level out your skin tone, and unclog your pores. It aids in anti-aging and can boost the absorption of other topicals applied to the skin.

9. You need to use a lot of skincare products to get good skin

You don’t need to use a lot of products; instead, pick the correct items for your skin’s demands. Using too many items can sometimes do more damage than benefit.

10. Acne is only a problem during puberty

According to Dr. Chang, adult acne can last from puberty through adulthood, but it often appears late in people who have never had acne before. Acne in adulthood is caused by genetics, hormones, blocked pores, and inflammation. Acne can worsen with stress. Certain diets, such as high-sugar, high-carbohydrate diets, might aggravate acne. Acne can occasionally be brought on by pregnancy. Cosmetics, as well. It’s helpful to pinpoint the location of the acne since those may be triggers that you may eliminate and see whether your acne improves as a result. You simply need to be patient with it. Remember that any acne treatment might take six to eight weeks to work, so you need truly stick to it.

Gluco Kahani’s Memorable Children’s Day Rhyme Teaches The Spirit Of Helping Others

Karachi, 24th – Nov-2022: This International Children’s Day, Peek Freans Gluco has launched a new rhyme, ‘Qadam Barhaein Hum’ in their popular series in the children’s edutainment category, called Gluco Kahani. This rhyme comes as a gift to Gluco Kahani’s young fans through which they can learn social, moral, and ethical values in their national language Urdu.

Gluco Kahani is a platform launched under the umbrella of Peek Freans Gluco in partnership with Bilal Maqsood and Talisman Animation featuring rhymes in our local language with the agenda to give purposeful content to our future generation. Together with Bilal’s soulful voice, these rhymes directed by Umer Adil, provide quality content with invaluable life lessons for children.

Our latest rhyme relays a meaningful and heart touching message in the context of the difficult times Pakistan is experiencing – that of catastrophic floods faced by millions of Pakistanis. ‘Qadam Barhaein Hum’ is a metaphoric depiction of the nation coming together to help their communities. It is the story of a bird, whose nest and fledglings are caught in a heavy storm, but the brave animals of the jungle work together to rescue them successfully.

The heart-touching concept teaches our children the importance of empathy, kindness, and the power of coming together in the face of adversity. This new addition to Gluco Kahani’s platform holds a special place in the series because of the message it carries. It resonates with the humanitarian efforts of Pakistanis, from all walks of life, coming forward in times of need.

The rhyme ‘Qadam Barhaein Hum’ builds on the eight, previously released rhymes as a medium for parents to help teach their children important life lessons. It also adheres to the vision of Peek Freans Gluco to nourish the lives of future generations with good quality animated urdu-content that children can resonate with, given its messaging.

“Children observe and absorb emotions and messages from their environment. And recently they have witnessed the incredible distress faced by the people of Pakistan. This rhyme, in the simplest of ways, acts as a reminder to us all to show compassion for others when tragedy strikes and teaches the values of empathy, kindness, and community to our children. This project continues Peek Freans Gluco’s commitment to help nourish future generations wholistically” said GM Marketing, Aaminah Saeed of EBM.

Jazz recognized for its Gender Inclusive Workplace at UN Women Asia-Pacific WEPs Awards

Islamabad – 24 November 2022: Jazz, Pakistan’s leading digital operator and a part of the VEON Group, has been conferred with the UN Women Asia-Pacific 2022 WEPs Award for a Gender-Inclusive Workplace.  This award recognises organizations that have incorporated the right measures to make themselves the preferred employer for women.

“Inclusivity is a big part of everything we do at Jazz. We have incorporated policies and global best practices to pave the way for gender equality within the organization. This recognition validates our holistic approach towards empowering women and renews our vigor as we move forward in our journey of creating a digitally inclusive ecosystem in Pakistan,” said Sabahat Bokhari, Director Diversity and Inclusion at Jazz.

Jazz is an equal opportunity employer. It’s one of the first telecom companies with a high female representation in its executive leadership. Not only does the company promote gender diversity in its work environment, it also has programs focused entirely on attracting and facilitating the female gender. For example, ‘Empower’ – Leadership development program in collaboration with a leading business university in Pakistan; ‘MOMentum’ – phase back program for returning mothers; and ‘She’s Back Returnship Program’ for women looking to return to work following a career break.

The company is also dedicated to enhancing diversity and women’s empowerment in the society and focuses on uplifting women in the society through the power of the internet. Female specific products and services are designed to help address many of the wider gender inequalities by digitally enabling them to access health, financial, and other life-enhancing services.

UN Women launched the Asia-Pacific Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) Awards in 2020 under WeEmpowerAsia. Launched in 2010 by UN Women and the UN Global Compact, the WEPs are a set of 7 principles that support companies to take a gender-sensitive approach throughout their value chain starting with corporate leadership and looking across the wider value chain from workplace, marketplace and community.  To date, more than 7,000 companies have signed the WEPs globally, and in the Asia-Pacific over 1,900 have committed. Jazz was one of the first companies in Pakistan to commit to the WEPs.

As the only regional awards initiative recognizing private sector action for gender equality aligned to the WEPs, the Awards offer a unique opportunity for organizations to showcase their work in a diverse range of areas relevant to women’s empowerment.

Travel Gadgets You Need For Your Next Adventure

The tourist industry is anticipated to reach virtually pre-pandemic levels this summer. In fact, according to the American Automobile Association (AAA), Memorial Day weekend will see a record-breaking 39.2 million travellers. But given that the pandemic is still very much a problem and that there are ongoing supply chain problems that are causing goods shortages, travelling may be a little more difficult than usual.

These are our top travel tech picks to help you navigate your upcoming trip, whether you’re going on holiday or for business.

  1. Cord Organizer

This one is for you if you’ve ever tried to dig a charging cord out of the back of your backpack on a crowded flight. To avoid accidently elbowing a stranger, you may keep all of your wires and adaptors neatly tucked away. Furthermore, it makes packing and unpacking simple. Belroy Tech Kit Compact (opens in a new tab) is praised for being compact but functional and for being in a variety of colors.

  1. Smart watch

Things like boarding permits and credit cards frequently reside in our phones these days thanks to the simplicity of mobile wallets. However, trying to balance your phone with your passport, bags, and airport coffee is a recipe for disaster. To make your vacation a little bit more hands-free, may we propose investing in a smart watch?

  1. International Adaptor

This highly regarded device from Native Union (opens in a new tab) contains two USB ports (USB-A and USB-C), one USB-C port with high-speed charging technology, and power adapters for outlets in North America, the EU, and the UK. You won’t have to wait around in your hotel room for your phone to charge that way.

  1. Non bulky hair styling tools

Your limited packing space will be consumed if you bring along all of your bulkiest curling irons, straightening irons, hair dryers, and other items. Instead, use the renowned Dyson Air-wrap (opens in a new tab). You may decide to only bring what you need because it has so many attachments. It won’t make you feel heavy because the gadget and each attachment are so lightweight, especially when compared to conventional hair stylers. We can vouch for it because we evaluated it.

  1. Instant Camera

Even though our smartphones can take incredible images, there are times when you simply need a little nostalgia or an extra artistic picture. An upgrade to a cult popular instant camera is one of our favorites. With lens filters and app-controlled creative modes, the Polaroid Now+(opens in a new tab) provides you all the 90s vibes plus some more bonuses. When we used it, the Double Exposure setting was our favorite. But remember to bring extra film!

  1. Bluetooth Tracker

While travelling, nobody wants to lose anything, yet it can occasionally happen. Put a tracker like an Apple AirTag or a Tile on your most cherished possessions to ensure that even if you become momentarily separated, you will be reunited.

What Is Sustainable Fashion? Here’s Everything You Need To Know

The term sustainable fashion has spread like wildfire. From environmental activists to fashion enthusiasts everyone is talking about following the same route. However, there is still so much confusion about the term and the trend is often misunderstood. Sustainable fashion is not just about recycling fabrics or wearing thrifted pieces but the practice involves a lot of mindful actions.

Sustainable fashion brands take on the responsibility of creating fashion pieces in a way that complies with the environment, reducing the carbon footprint and putting their part in maintaining the overall ecological balance. It’s no secret that the fashion industry is putting a major burden while contributing to greenhouse gas emissions. Meanwhile, the only viable solution is to find out measures that can bring out major changes without affecting the finances too much.

Why Sustainable Fashion Is Important?

The amount of textile garbage created by fast fashion industries is way too much. To an extent that there is one garbage truck being burnt every second. The weekly fashion trends are generated by creating poor-quality fabrics which can be discarded quickly. In contrast, the sustainable fashion industries work on promoting good quality recyclable fabric which can be used for years and can be repurposed.

Meanwhile, manufacturing, transportation, and material creation also contribute enormously to greenhouse gases. Since fast fashion items are created from poor-quality materials including acrylic and nylon – their disposal requires a significant amount of energy. However, the biodegradable material used for sustainable clothes is made from recycled or natural products.

How To Practice Sustainable Fashion?

Practicing sustainable and ethical fashion is much easier than it sounds. It’s very common to give in to fashion trends. However, not giving in to the impulse of hoarding the latest fashion trend is the key. Always think about why sustainable fashion is important and how you are contributing to the environment by practicing it.

One way to stick to sustainable fashion is to recognize the materials and fabrics which can be used for a long time. Ask yourself a few questions before buying anything as to what and why are you buying something. Is this going to have a stable place in your wardrobe for a long time? Quality is key and taking your time to evaluate the pieces and whether they align with your fashion sense can make a big impact.

Shopping vintage and thrift items, and renting outfits you don’t intend to wear in the long run are some other ways to practice sustainable fashion.

To reduce the carbon footprint of your garments ensure to extend their life by taking care of them. So they don’t just end up in landfills after a few uses.

Sustainability is an ongoing debate and while it might seem hard to adapt to the trend, it sure can offer major benefits both for you and your environment in the long run.

S&P Global Pakistan (S&P Global) has successfully mentored more than 12,000 women as part of its pledge to mentor 20,000 under the U.S.-Pakistan Women’s Council’s (USPWC) Pakistan Million Women Mentors (PMWM) Initiative.

The company announced this milestone during an event co-hosted by the U.S.-Pakistan Women’s Council and S&P Global commemorating Global Entrepreneurship Month that featured S&P Global employee mentors, women mentees, and civil society partners. U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan Donald Blome provided opening remarks.

Launched in 2020, PMWM is a movement led by USPWC member, Pod to connect one million women and girls in Pakistan to mentors. S&P Global was the first USPWC member to support the initiative, pledging in March 2019 to reach 20,000 women and girls to advance women’s participation and leadership in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) careers. In his remarks at the event, U.S. Ambassador Blome said, “Mentorship is critical to fostering the next generation of business leaders and entrepreneurs, and the Council’s Pakistan Million Women Mentors initiative is playing an important role by helping to encourage, inspire, and support future women entrepreneurs and leaders in STEM in Pakistan.

Corporations in Pakistan and the United States have pledged to mentor more than 40,000 women so far, and we hope to continue growing this number. S&P’s commitment to mentor 20,0000 women was critical to catalyzing other companies to step forward in both Pakistan and the United States.”

S&P Global partnered with leading non-profits to reach women across Pakistan including USPWC member the Indus Entrepreneurs (TIE), and the Society for International Education (SIE), She Means Work (SMW), Epiphany, xCircle and CaterpillHers. These organizations conducted outreach and assessed the mentoring needs of the diverse profiles of girls and women across all regions of Pakistan. Collectively, the program’s community partners have helped connect thousands of mentees to S&P Global Pakistan employees who serve as mentors.

Speaking at the event, S&P Global Pakistan Managing Director Mujeeb Zahur thanked the mentors for the work they have done to date. “I am immensely proud of our employee volunteers who have shown how we can all inspire positive change. Their dedication has ensured that the organization remains on track in fulfilling its pledge. S&P Global will continue to take charge of progressive workplace policies in Pakistan and work with leading organizations to enhance women’s economic participation and impact.”

More than 150 S&P Global mentors have so far delivered 190+ sessions on STEM and other diverse topics to over 12,000 women through PMWM. The initiative provided critical support to women during COVID-19 fostering Pakistani women’s economic resilience by virtually connecting women entrepreneurs and women in the workforce from diverse social, linguistic, and academic backgrounds with a network and critical tools to build their capacity.

The company’s participation in the USPWC and program is a part of its commitment towards diversity, equity, and inclusion, and aligns with its worldwide #ChangePays campaign, which provides research on the benefits of increased female participation for the capital markets and the world economy.

Hyundai Introduces Home Charging Ecosystem With Solar Panels

In an effort to attract a new generation of EV purchasers, Hyundai unveiled at the LA Auto Show a new method of home charging for its customers. For Hyundai owners, the carmaker includes solar panels, energy storage, and EV charging. In essence, Hyundai collaborated with Electrum, a company that installs solar panels, residential batteries, and heat pumps. Through this agreement, clients in 16 states will be able to locate the best power installations and systems for their EV charging requirements.

The Ioniq 5 is only one of the new Hyundai EVs that Ian Tupper, senior group manager of strategic environmental alliances at Hyundai, stated that dealers were assisting clients in connecting with nearby installers and power providers to set up charging and storage for their new Hyundai EVs.

The Problem

As part of a larger initiative to reduce carbon emissions across the nation, notably from tailpipes or vehicles fueled by fossil fuels, states like California have banned the sale of new gasoline cars by 2035. This suggests that an increasing number of Americans are thinking about purchasing hybrid, plug-in hybrid, or electric automobiles. However, a third of American households, as determined by the US Census, are renters, and the majority of rental homes are older.

Therefore, in order to have access to at-home charging, tenants will require landlords that are prepared to make an investment in panel modifications and give charging access in multiunit garages. A single-family home’s electrical panel may need to be modified at a price of between $1,300 and $3,000 or more in order to be utilized for charging cars. Due to the high cost of battery-electric, hybrid, or plug-in electric automobiles, many people will not be able to buy or use them, especially those who reside in multifamily buildings without access to home charging. Tupper asserts that Hyundai is considering doing this, but he was unable to elaborate on their probable plans.

The Solution

We need to find a solution for renters if we hope to achieve broad adoption, so we’re going at it in a few different ways, said Tupper. To encourage the installation of as many recharging stations as possible, the firm is pursuing a strategic partnership. Additionally, it is looking for new people who can provide solutions. Tupper stated that they would help a city create a charging station and provide incentives for low-power AC charging. Hyundai is collaborating with companies like Electrum to provide consumers with other options for power storage and charging in states outside of the 16 that Electrum now serves.

EV Charging Stations In Karachi

In Karachi, the nation’s first ultra-rapid DC charging station for electric cars was officially opened in June 2022. The first and only Ultra-Rapid DC charging station in Pakistan, equipped with Siemens SICHARGE D series chargers with power up to 160kW, was revealed in Karachi by Audi in conjunction with SIEMENS.

Abdul Haseeb Khan, CEO of Libra Energy Solutions, stated in his welcoming speech that his family has been in the oil industry for the past 50 years. The first Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) station was subsequently opened here in the 1990s by his father, Abdul Sami Khan. At this point, he has also included an EV charging station.

How efficient is this step

He asked the government to provide a subsidy to lower the cost of EV charging. Additionally, he asked for electric pole-mounted transformers (PMTs) near roads so they could add more of these charging stations there. So you can drive your EV from here to Murree with ease, he remarked.

He gave some information on their specific charging station, stating that it is the first rapid charger in Pakistan and that charging larger vehicles, such as the Audi e-tron, will only take 15 minutes while charging smaller vehicles will only take four or five minutes.

The cost behind the process

Such charging facilities are a need on your routes. He said that the cost of moving automobiles from one city to the next would be low and that there is lots of undeveloped space next to our motorways that could be used for solar farms.

Individuals who switched to electric vehicles have completely eliminated their gasoline expenditures since I myself own one. Fuel costs reach an all-time high in 2022. According to him, these cars are also environmentally good since you can always get renewable energy from the sun and wind.

Small electric vehicles will be charged at Rs 2,000, while big vehicles would be taxed at Rs 4,000, according to CEO of LIBRA Charging Hub Abdul Haseeb Khan. He claimed that the promotion of electric technology in automobiles is a result of the rise in gasoline prices.

The optimum locations

As Karachi’s Mayor mentioned, we could learn where it would be most practical to put up charging points as we gain more experience with the technology. The KMC is with you, and together, we can persuade other gas stations and gasoline dispensers to adopt this technology as well.” Along with EVs’ ability to help rescue the environment, we can also help with policies and laws related to this. A discussion with the federal government about installing charge stations along the roadway because they are also looking for ways to decrease costs can be beneficial.

EV Charging Stations In Karachi

While the influx of electric vehicles in Pakistan especially in Karachi is growing rapidly, it is enlightening to watch the response these vehicles are getting and proving critics wrong about the sustainability and life of electric vehicles in a country like Pakistan. Below is a list of places where some of the EV charging stations in Karachi can be found.

The future of the automobile industry

While the Pakistani car sector is still growing despite skyrocketing prices and average quality as in the past, it is now turning a new leaf as it concentrates on introducing new international brands like Hyundai Nishat Motors and Kia Motors. Quality also comes together with cost reduction and operational efficiency. This further extends the monopolistic feature of the market’s saturation, which benefits the customers. Electric vehicles have also shown hints of success, although there is still more work to be done in that area. It will be fascinating to observe how electric cars fare in a developing nation when the price of power is at an all-time high and the safety of property is questionable.

Cycle for Change

Over 250 cyclists participated in The Citizens Foundation (TCF) Event Cycle for Change this year to help raise funds to bring flood-affected children in Pakistan back to school.  A significant number of cyclist groups participated from various parts of Karachi and gathered at TCF School Shirin Sultan Dossa Campus, Qayyumabad  to advocate for quality education. This is the second year into this event owing to its huge success last year and it will be celebrated as an annual TCF Event.

The event was also attended by various sponsors and supporters including Main Sponsor, Careem Pakistan. Mr. Feroz Jaleel, Country Head Careem Pakistan stated – “We are immensely happy and overwhelmed to see that our colleagues and customers have donated wholeheartedly for the betterment of society. By leveraging the power of modern technology, we can together create a great impact in gathering donations for our affected fellow countrymen. Making a deeper impact is part of Careem’s DNA and we are blessed to have this opportunity in partnership with TCF.”

Currently, 3.5 million children in Pakistan are facing a learning disruption due to the flood crisis – worsening the education crisis in the country. Displacement, loss of family income and damage to the education infrastructure are forcing children to drop out of school; many are taking up work to support their families, while girls are at an increased risk of child marriages.

In order to address this challenge, TCF is proceeding with not just rebuilding the schools that got damaged, but is determined to bring these vulnerable children back to school and safeguard their future through quality education.
