Unpredictability is the forte of Pakistani dramas. At times, you get the entire package, and at times, you get a problematic storyline. For instance, in 2019, we saw a Pakistani drama, Ishq Zah e Naseeb which had an amazing cast, good acting, well-developed characters, and a great OST too. At the same time, the industry is also capable of producing Mere Paas Tum Ho which may have a great OST but the story was controversial. Moral? Never judge a book by its cover.

But how about, we rate the cover for today? Let’s look at the Pakistani drama OSTs of 2021 that struck a chord with you.

1. Hum Kahan Kay Sachay Thy

Mahira Khan starrer, Hum Kahan Kay Sachay Thy is a Pakistani drama we were looking forward to. It is based on a novel that did not show Mashal fighting with Mehreen for a guy. She makes it clear that she is not fighting for Aswad. In the drama, however, on her last day, Mashal is seen looking at Aswad’s picture longingly. They may have tried to keep the story intact but these subtle cues make Hum Kahan Kay Sachay Thy another of the run of the mill Pakistani dramas with two girls fighting over a man.

That said, Yashal Shahid did a great job for sure. Ever since its release, we have been humming the song all day long.

2. Shehnai

After Ishqiya, Shehnai is another song by Asim Azhar that has us in a trance. The song perfectly blends with the genre of the show, which is comedy. It is rare to find comedy-themed dramas that are not telefilms or Ramadan specials in the Pakistani drama industry. A new concept, ARY Digital did give its best attempt because the drama started out great. Midway, it started dragging. However, even now, if someone plays the ‘Hum Tu Hare Sub Tere Hi Agey‘ we sing with all our might, ‘Thay Dewane Teri Adaa Pe Youn‘

3. Khuda Aur Mohabbat Season 3

Two seasons under its belt, the name, Khuda Aur Mohabbat gets another story. Starring Iqra Aziz and Feroze Khan, two iconic actors, the drama is sure to be a masterpiece. Although, those who have followed it are not that excited the OST has won our hearts most definitely. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is already a star who has transcended boundaries but Nish Asher also gave a performance that people will remember for years.

4. Azmaish

We have already spoken too much about Azmaish and our reservations about it. But Nimra Mehra and Rizwan Anwer have sung a song that brought us back to the drama every time the story made us quit.

5. Pardes

Sarmad Khoosat, a director who has a great track record, and Shaista Lodhi, the renowned morning show host; the two unite for Pardes. Amanat Ali and Sithi Saha sang the OST for Pardes that resonated with a number of families because of the idea in the story. It is based on people who go abroad and do hard labor to give a better lifestyle to their families.

6. Fitoor

Another 2021 Pakistani drama goes by the name of Fitoor. Shani Arshad and Aima Baig led their melodious voices for the creation of the song. Given how great of a singer Aima Baig is, it does not come as a surprise that the OST made it to this list.

7. Raqs e Bismil

Vicky Akbar gives the voice to a story that is different from the other stories. Of course, it has elements that show a man’s toxic love that continues because he finds himself to be genuine and continues to pursue the girl no matter how much she says no. But the OST was good enough to be on the list.

foodpanda Launches Pilot Project For Food Delivery By ‘Pandafly’ Drones

Islamabad, November 12, 2021: foodpanda, Pakistan’s leading food delivery company, and also the country’s leading e-commerce platform overall, today launched a pilot project to test food delivery through a customized drone. Conducted in association with the office of the Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, the test flight of the drone, named pandafly, took place in the F-9 Park Islamabad. A food package weighing approximately 2.5 kgs was taken from a restaurant at one end of the park by a foodpanda rider and loaded into the drone’s storage bag. The drone then delivered the package at the other end of the park, where it was collected by another rider and distributed to children invited from Sweet Homes for the occasion.

The use of disruptive technology by foodpanda in the future will mean faster deliveries over longer distances. Further customers living in peri-urban and remote areas will especially benefit, as they have limited options of food outlets in their local area, and with drone delivery, they will be able to order food from main urban centres as well. The last mile of delivery by drone will be completed by a foodpanda rider. Also to be noted is that this is the first of its kind commercial drone made in Pakistan for this purpose and foodpanda is thus supporting development of local technology.

Speaking on the pilot launch occasion, Nauman Sikandar Mirza, the CEO of foodpanda stated, “foodpanda’s core ethos is to constantly innovate, stretch the limits and leverage technology to find great solutions for meeting the evolving needs of the people. Before we start actual drone deliveries for our customers, there are still many aspects that need to be thoroughly evaluated and locked in, including technical, operational and legal matters and we are vigorously addressing all these. The successful test flight and delivery today has been highly encouraging and proves we are on the right flight path!”

The Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Hamza Shafqaat and his office collaborated closely with foodpanda for the pilot project and the DC was also the Chief Guest at the launch event. Expressing his views, he said, “e-commerce and the use of technology to serve the citizens is definitely the future, and the Islamabad civil administration stands committed to support anyone who takes the initiative to provide greater convenience and facilities for the public. We wish foodpanda all the best in now turning this pilot project into a regular operational service.

The launch event was also attended by dignitaries, representatives of the media, some celebrities and social media influencers.

Cricket is hardcoded in the veins of almost every Pakistani there is. It is said that people here learn to walk later, play cricket first. It makes sense that we have so much support for our cricket team. After all, we do not have an international representation everywhere so we must make the best of it. Social media has certainly been celebrating the valiance and bravery of Muhammad Rizwan and are calling him a true hero of the entire world cup. No matter which team you support, there is no doubt that you support Muhammad Rizwan for his effort. To think that he managed to stand up, in the condition he was in, and come play. Not only did he just play, but he also played quite well. Scoring half a century in the semi-final, in less than 100% health truly makes him superhuman. If there’s one dessert that has come about to be a hit across age groups, it has to be the brownie. A mix between a dense fudge and cake, the brownie is truly a feast for the senses. This is why we commonly find chocolate brownies with ice cream on the menu of many popular restaurants. However, one fusion brownie prepared by a restaurant in India has left the internet stunned. Twitter users came across a weird ‘Paan Brownie’, and it indeed left a bad aftertaste in the mouths of many internet users.

Since it was uploaded on Twitter, the video has amassed more than one lakh views along with outrageous reactions from netizens. People expressed their disappointment over the unusual pan and brownie dish, while many even accused the cook of preparing it. Some even said they wouldn’t eat pan after watching this video, and some said they would like to taste it. A large number of people expressed displeasure at seeing that they ruined both brownies and paan for them.

In the viral video published on Twitter, a person is seen preparing a bizarre pan. The video opens to show a piece of chocolate brownie kept on a heated plate on top of which he drizzles some amount of chocolate sauce. Then he adds a scoop of vanilla ice cream, another layer of chocolate sauce, and finally a paan twist.

While the weird creation did look aesthetically appealing, Twitter users could not understand the need to innovate the dish in the first place. Several people thought that the combination of Paan and chocolate was indeed a bad idea. Others wondered why such innovations were found mainly in Gujarat only.

The post mostly left netizens unsure of the combination, with some even accusing the makers of ruining both brownies and paan for them. Nevertheless, there did seem to be a few takers for the unique treat. One person pointed out that they have seen worse combos like Oreo Pakodas.

A New Virus Spreading In Karachi? Here’s What You Need To Know

A Mysterious Virus Spreading In Karachi Is Causing Dengue-Like Symptoms — Image source: dawn.com

According to clinicians and pathologists, several ‘mysterious viral fever’ cases are being witnessed in Karachi. The symptoms behave precisely like the dengue virus. Reduced platelets and white blood cell count in patients is reported. However, when tested for dengue, the result comes out to be negative.

A New Infection On The Rise?

Several physicians and hemato-pathologists from different hospitals of the city have confirmed the incidence. According to them, the dengue virus-like pathogen is circulating in Karachi. This pathogen is causing a disease that is acting similar to dengue fever and requires the same treatment protocols, but it is not dengue fever.

“For a couple of weeks, we are seeing cases of a viral fever. While the patients platelets and white blood cells are dropping, other clinical symptoms are also similar to the dengue fever. But when NS1 antigen of these patients is performed, their tests come out to be negative,” Prof Saeed Khan, head of molecular pathology at the Dow University of Health Sciences, said.

In light of the current dengue and the mysterious virus situation in the city, the hospitals and blood banks across Karachi face an acute shortage of mega units and random units of platelets. Clinicians are now advising people to take precautionary measures to prevent vector-borne diseases like dengue fever and malaria.

According to Prof Khan, it could be another virus from the family of ‘Arboviruses’, causing diseases like dengue fever. “We have even performed the PCR test to see if it is dengue virus but it is not the dengue virus. It is not Zika virus because Zika virus behaves differently. There is also little chances of this virus being any unknown variant of the dengue virus,”

Doctors Statements

Dr. Zeeshan Hussain, a senior hemato-pathologist associated with a public sector health facility, said that fortunately, the mysterious viral fever resembling dengue had so far not resulted in any death. He added that they were treating patients infected with this virus as if they had contracted dengue.

“So far, this virus has not caused haemorrhagic fever by reducing platelets of a patient where bleeding starts. Most of the patients infected with this unknown virus are responding to conventional treatment,” Dr Hussain added.

Haematologist and physician Dr Saqib Ansari says that the phenome of patients having dengue-like symptoms and not testing positive is not new. We have seen multiple cases in this regard ever since 2008. However, more research needs to be done before coming to any conclusion.

“I have seen cases where patients were dropping platelets. However, their SGPT was on the rise and they had classic symptoms of dengue fever but their dengue test came out negative. There is a possibility that false-negative results are being reported. So, there is a need for more research in this regard,” Dr Ansari said.

The channels make all their earning in this time from the ad slots that get even pricier during the world cup matches. While the brands can’t have complete ads playing in between overs, they are able to sneak in a quick glance of it in a few seconds. And it makes the most difference because the audience won’t change the channel. They are too excited about the match. As a result, brands can get the most effective result. But who advertised?

When watching Pakistani channels for the cricket match, of course, the ads will differ for each channel. However, we will be looking at the products that are being advertised. These ads are, as you would recall, for bubblegum, for food, for detergent, for moisturizers; you get the gist.

Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani Nobel Laureate, and girls education activist recently tied the knot in a small, humble yet gorgeous ceremony. Her husband, Asser Malik, since then has made several headlines because the world wants to know who the famous personality married. How Did They Meet?

The two have known each other for three years now. It was the summer of 2018 that Asser Malik was visiting his friends at Oxford and their paths crossed! Her best girlfriends from school and Oxford took leaves from their occupations and reached the wedding house! The best part is also how Malala put mehndi on her own hands and discovered she was a pro at it. The day before the wedding, the couple spent several hours in the mall to buy Asser’s pink tie and pocket square and Malala’s sandals.

Malala’s Contention With Marriage

Her remark that she doesn’t understand why people have to get married has been misconstrued. Malala clarifies her stance and suggests that marriage has been a scary and repelling institution in her eyes since childhood. She recalls how many girls she grew up with either got married against their wish or got married when all else failed.

Imagine seeing your friends of 14 years of age be pregnant! Malala had an issue with how marriage is seen as servitude in our community and thus, the remark. However, her partnership with Asser Malik has taught her marriage can be beautiful.

Obama, Trump, and Biden, all three great American leaders had one objective in common – to end America’s longest war and exit the US troops from Afghanistan. The war in Afghanistan against the Taliban was triggered after the unfortunate 2001 attacks in New York City, and it met its abrupt end when the US military abandoned its strongholds and left the country this year, leaving behind an undefined future for the Afghans.

The Skewed Perception on Afghanistan and the worries of the world leaders about the region’s security became a topic of debate at the virtual School of Tomorrow Conference organized by Beaconhouse. The panel discussion was chaired by esteemed members, including James M. Dorsey, journalist and Senior Fellow at the National University of Singapore’s Middle East Institute, Dr. Taimur Rahman, political activist and Assistant Professor at Lahore University of Management Sciences, Edward Davis, Head of Afghanistan Reconstruction Trust Fund (FCDO), and senior Pakistani journalist and TV anchor, Fahd Hussain.

James M. Dorsey was of the view that the change in power in the country has given birth to numerous questions, including how the new regime of Taliban plans to function and collaborate with its neighbors and the world leaders. He further expressed his concerns on the impending security issues as to how will the new establishment counter the rebels and deal with external forces like the U.S.A.

Edward Davis, who has been actively observing the on-ground situation in Afghanistan, stated, “What concerns us more is the present situation. Afghanistan has always been an economically weak state, the people are living a hand-to-mouth life. The past 20 years saw reforms, such as the inclusion of the female workforce in leadership roles, as there were 28 to 30 percent reserved positions for female parliamentarians and education for all. Since the Taliban took over, these changes have been reversed. There is also the rising issue of food shortage as the nation is facing a severe drought. The Taliban, however, have allowed the NGOs to function as per norm, which is surprising and creates hope that the extremist regime might show some signs of relaxation in the future.”

Afghanistan has seen modern warfare from the front row, and is still dealing with the aftermath of the 20 years of occupation by the U.S. forces. The country saw an investment of US $2 trillion, in the form of military equipment and other commodities, while 2300 U.S. soldiers lost their lives, along with countless civilians while millions of Afghans became subject to displacement, inflation, unemployment and drought. “The country is faced with international pressure and isolation, with only a few eager to help them on humanitarian grounds,” said Dr. Taimur Rehman during the virtual conference. He further emphasized on the fact that since Taliban have risen to power in Afghanistan, its eastern neighbor Pakistan has experienced a rise in terrorist activities allegedly from the Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Although the Afghan leaders have assured support to Pakistan in this issue, the rising tension with the Shia community in the state can see an aggressive involvement from Iran as well.

Fahad Hussain, while expressing his views on the situation stressed the greater issue, that is the reintegration of Afghanistan into the global landscape, as according to the United Nations, the Taliban-run state is about to face a great humanitarian disaster in the coming winters in the form of shortage of food and resources. A handful of nations have shown willingness to provide whatever possible aid to the people of Afghanistan.

While to attain global attention, the Taliban will need to work on their international and national policies, which till now has been missing from the big picture. The impending disaster may worsen the law and order situation in the region, directly affecting Pakistan, with a larger influx of refugees and an increase in violence due to clashes between the now governing body and militant groups.

It is evident that Afghan leaders must take strong and immediate actions to provide maximum relief and a way forward for their people because the outlook of the new regime so far has not been positive.

The T20 world cup, this year, has been quite a ride. The Pakistan team started off by defeating India by a major margin. Then, they went on to gain victory over New Zealand. Never has there been a dull moment in Pakistan’s run in this T20. No matter which team they went up against, we were there to cheer them on and hold them high. Now, when the time came for the semi-final, the support stood as high as ever. Alas, we are going to be holding the trophy as the winners but that does not mean it is over. Some efforts contribute to preparation and Pakistan is going to come back stronger than ever!

We have to admit that this was the toughest and most exciting match of the entire world cup so far. There was not a moment in between where we could breathe and take a look around. Every ball thrown, every catch taken, it was all a part of the grand picture. Fans came in scores to see the team play and they are not hating the team for losing. In fact, Twitter has been full of support for every player on the team, with no discrimination.

The song ‘Hamein tum se Pyar hai’ rings quite true after today’s match. We may be feeling down and sad at the loss, but we do not hate the team for it. After all, how many teams can say that they were undisputed in this world cup? How many of them can say that they lost no matches before the semi-final. Whether anyone agrees or not, this is quite a big deal and a major achievement. The public has regained faith in the batting and bowling lineup of Pakistan.

We only hope that the team themselves keep their spirits high. It is up to us to not ridicule them upon their return and keep cheering them on. After all, losses and wins are a part of the game. If we are there in their good times, we should be there during the tougher times. Our team really did give it their best shot and they came up pretty high. The prediction chart for our win went as high as 86%.

While Hollywood and Bollywood have unveiled remarkable road trip movies over the years, Pakistan’s cinema industry still needs to raise its game in the genre. However, there is one man in the nation who is thrilled by the idea of films and open road trips- and that is, the one and only revolutionary director, Wajahat Rauf.

The first to experiment in this area, Rauf takes the credit of giving Pakistani cinema its avant-garde road trip film, Karachi Se Lahore. The rom-com featured gorgeous starlet Ayesha Omar and Shehzad Sheikh and the slapstick and humorous ‘Moti’- the rising star, Yasir Hussain.

While Karachi Se Lahore fared fine at the box-office, it lacked the much-needed punch of an adventurous road trip tale. Not admitting defeat, Wajahat Rauf returned with its sequel- Lahore Se Aagey and vowed a much bigger and better flick!

With an exciting plot, an entertaining script and a more powerful lead pair of an ‘odd couple’ Saba Qamar and Yasir Hussain, Lahore Se Aagey is all set to hit the theaters on 11 November 2016.

However, it has been observed that film sequels often compromise on quality and entertainment. Will it be the same for Lahore Se Aagay?

We met the cast and director of the movie to get answers to all the burning questions in our minds. In an exclusive interview with Brandsynario, team Lahore Sey Aagey revealed that the sequel will be bigger, better and wittier than its prequel.

1. Winning Plot Supported By a Talented Actress

While we all saw Saba Qamar in her cameo role in Manto, we are more excited to see her as a rock star in Lahore Se Aagey. Her killer looks in the movie have wowed us and we are already aware of her phenomenal acting skills, owing to some stellar T.V dramas.

While Yasir Hussain returns in the sequel as the lead hero, Wajahat opted to change the leading lady for the story. We all know that Saba is a complete package for a heroin in any movie and the director was looking for just that in his cinematic road-trip.

2. A Mistake is the Best Teacher

Karachi Se Lahore had great potential of being a visual treat for Pakistani cinema-goers. However, it failed to work its magic on the silver screen. The acting, cinematography, sets, and costumes could have been more impressive. Seems like Wajahat Rauf learned from his earlier blunders. He revamped the cast along with the plot to make sure Lahore Se Aagey takes over the cinemas of Pakistan, unlike its predecessor.

3. No Over-branding

If you have seen Karachi Se Lahore, you would definitely remember brands popping up left, right and center in the movie. From bank promotions to ice cream overdoses, the multitude of obvious product placements became pretty annoying for the viewers.

Much to our glee, Rauf realized the dangers of overbranding in the film. He divulged that while the prequel appeared guilty of quite apparent over-branding, Lahore Se Aagey will not have ‘in your face’ labels, or brands pointing directly towards the camera.

4. Visual Masterpiece

Lahore Se Aagay is expected to be greener and visually more appealing The movie has been shot in the Northern Areas of Pakistan, mostly in Swat-unlike Karachi Se Lahore that was shot in plains and in between mountains.

With better and enhanced cinematography, the movie is bound to be a visual masterpiece!

5. Fresh Story wth Better Actors

As Wajahat Rauf unintentionally divulged, he clearly implied of casting better actors in the sequel, Lahore Se Aagay. “One thing that I have learned from the previous movie is that weak actors should never be cast.” Who was he implying to? Ayesha Omar or Shehzad Sheikh? We’ll never know!

But we do know that in comparison with Ayesha and Shehzad, Saba Qamar and Yasir Hussain are both amazing actors and the on-screen chemistry will definitely make it all the more fun to watch! In addition to that, the script is stronger and funnier with catchy punchlines that’ll leave you rolling on the floor with laughter!

Kia Motors revealed its ad not too long ago titled, Play It Young. The ad is making rounds on social media and attracting all kinds of opinions, good and bad. But for us, the ad is just too good. It conveys the idea they want to, the significance of their product, and even shows and breaks stereotypes.

The ad shows a girl (Iqra Aziz) doing groceries at the supermarket. She looks modest but she has a funky side which we see as her doppelganger. The funky alter ego has purple-dyed hair and wants to live her life while the modest girl has to exercise restraint.

They meet an acquaintance (a typical brown aunty) who asks her about ‘good news’. And we all know what that is a codeword for. The funky alter ego urges her to tell the aunty off by saying that the ‘good news’ can be used for promotion as well. A girl’s life is not just about producing babies.

The girl(s) exits the mart and finds the KIA vehicle. They are both amazed. And that is what the ad-makers intended to show; no matter how different your personality is, you are equally amazed at the perfection of the product. The alter egos become one human as they unite in their love for the car. Iqra Aziz drives off in the car shedding off yet another stereotype you see in the ads; the stereotype of men controlling the wheel.

Criticism for the sake of criticism

When the ad was shared on a popular portal, one could see quite a few criticisms of it. But honestly, most of them seemed like they had no basis. Having criticized so many ads now, it seems most of us have just internalized the idea that every campaign needs to be complained about. Of course, it is not like the ad could not have been better. Maybe the voiceover technology could be improved. But in general, the storyline, the lack of bombarding the product on the screen, and of course Iqra’s priceless acting, make the ad a complete package.

If I could dare to make my own opinion; I LOVED THE AD.
