TikTok went wild recently as a flight attendant shared airline’s well-kept secret. Why do planes still have an ashtray even if smoking is banned on flights? Read all about the secret reason why ashtrays are hidden in planes still:

What Happened?

On TikTok, a flight attendant explains why ashtrays are still present on airplanes despite the fact that smoking has been prohibited on board since 1988. Think about it: there are lit signs above the seats, a safety demonstration before takeoff that warns you that tampering with smoke detectors is against the law. There is a sign on the restroom door, and an ashtray immediately beneath that warning.

Even more recently, aircrafts still have ashtrays integrated into the toilet doors despite the long-standing ban.

Canadian Flight Attendant Answers Questions

Using the handle @flyingkaylee on TikTok, Kaylee, also known as Kaylee on the app, presents herself as a Canadian flight attendant who is willing to answer any questions regarding her position in her bio.

The root cause she says is because, well, people don’t always follow the rules. Ashtrays are still provided on flights in case a passenger wishes to smoke in the restroom. Many do not listen to the restriction. The airlines place these there to put out the cigarette securely. An in-flight fire might begin if a lighted cigarette is thrown into the trash can in the restroom. Another flight attendant also added, “The reason is that people will attempt to breach the regulations. Instead than hiding their smokes in a tiny nook and creating a fire hazard, we prefer that people use ashtrays”.

The Planes and Hiding Ashtrays

The commenter continued by pointing out that bathrooms also have smoke detectors, making it incredibly challenging to sneak a cigarette during flight. In case someone still tries, a sudden, loud alarm could generate panic. However, airplane smoke detectors also don’t operate in a conventional manner; instead, they alert the staff.

These people are not smart if they are smoking in the washroom. “They’re breaking a fire danger rule [on] a plane.”

Airlines should exercise caution for several valid reasons. On a flight from Rio de Janeiro to Paris in 1973, 123 passengers perished when the captain attempted an emergency landing after the cabin started to smoke. The alleged reason? the cigarette.

The iPhone Ultra is rumoured to be designed to replace the iPhone Pro Max with a more clearly separated device in terms of specs. The most notable feature rummaging about the iPhone 15 Ultra is a second selfie camera.

According to the content creator and Apple tipster, Majin Bu the iPhone 15 Ultra will replace the iPhone Pro Max with features and specs that separate it from the iPhone 15 Pro, most notably the addition of a second selfie camera.

With the new addition of the second front-facing camera, the quality of selfies is sure to receive an update. The dual front cameras have been experimented with by Apple’s competitors in the past but have not yet been adopted by the tech giant for its recent products. While it is unsure how Apple will use its dual front camera, it is speculated that the update will allow for a change in magnification to offer wide and ultra-wide lenses.

The big rumour around the upcoming iPhone cameras is a dedicated periscope zoom lens. Only the iPhone 15 Pro Max will get this lens, which will feature a 5-6x optical zoom.

MajinBu has also stated that the iPhone Ultra is likely to replace the Pro Max with the range starting from the iPhone 15 to iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and lastly, iPhone 15 Ultra.

The insider claims that the Ultra model will feature 256GB storage, potentially using USB-C with Thunderbolt 4 speeds. The European Union’s new law makes USB-C the only acceptable plug for smartphones. This goes into effect in 2024, so Apple is most likely to get ahead of it.

According to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman, the USB-C iPhones are already in the testing stages. Apple is also working on an adapter to allow existing Lightning accessories to work with USB-C.

The World’s Whitest Paint Just Got An Upgrade & It’s Ideal For Cars

The world’s whitest paint—seen on this 12 months’ version of Guinness World Information and “The Late Present With Stephen Colbert”—retains surfaces so cool that it may cut back the necessity for air conditioners. Meanwhile, the researchers, behind the idea, have now come up with a new formulation that is thinner and lighter – Making it ideally suited for radiating warmth away from automobiles, trains, and airplanes.

How Does The Whitest Paint work?

The ultra-white coating, developed at Purdue University in Indiana, is 0.005-inch thick and reflects up to 97.9 per cent of sunlight. Currently, paints oin the market that are designed to reject heat only reflect somewhere between 80 and 90 per cent of sunlight.

“I’ve been contacted by everyone from spacecraft manufacturers to architects to companies that make clothes and shoes,” says Xiulin Ruan, a Purdue professor of mechanical engineering and developer of the paint, in a university release.

“They mostly had two questions: Where can I buy it, and can you make it thinner?”

The unique world’s whitest paint used nanoparticles of barium sulfate to mirror 98.1% of daylight, cooling door surfaces greater than 4.5°C beneath ambient temperature. Once you drench your roof in that paint, you can cool your own home with a lot less air conditioning. However, there’s an issue.

“To realize this stage of radiative cooling beneath the ambient temperature, we needed to apply a layer of paint no less than 400 microns thick,” Ruan mentioned.

“That’s fine if you’re painting a robust stationary structure, like the roof of a building. But in applications that have precise size and weight requirements, the paint needs to be thinner and lighter.”

The New Formulation

The new material features boron nitride in hexagonal nanoplatelet form and offers a solar reflectance of 97.9%, so a touch below the original, but does so in layers of just 150 microns thick. This new paint is not only thinner but is also lower density and therefore weighs around 80% less.

“This lightweight opens the doors to all kinds of applications,” said George Chiu, a Purdue professor of mechanical engineering.

“Now this paint has the potential to cool the exteriors of aeroplanes, cars or trains. An aeroplane sitting on the tarmac on a hot summer day won’t have to run its air conditioning as hard to cool the inside, saving large amounts of energy. Spacecraft also have to be as light as possible, and this paint can be a part of that.”

Legendary cricketer, Imran Khan celebrates his 64th birthday today, 5th October. Also called ‘Khan Sahab’, he is a political leader for the famous political party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI). Asides that, Khan Sahab is a cricket commentator, philanthropist, and former chancellor of the University of Bradford.

Born in Lahore and educated from Aitchison, Worchester and then Keble College, Oxford, here are 6 memorable moments from the ‘Kaptaan’s’ life that got him all the limelight he needed.

1. Cricket Career

He started to play cricket at the age of 13 for his college, later on, he joined the Worcestershire Cricket Club and made his first debut for Pakistan in 1947 for the Birmingham series at the age of 18. After his graduation from Oxford, he joined the national cricket team in 1976 and played till 1992.

Khan remained the captain of the Pakistani team from 1982-92, during his period as a skipper; he led the Men in Green to a glorious win in the 1992 Cricket World Cup. The victory became Pakistan’s first World Cup, and as of now, their only World Cup victory.

By the time he retired, he was a legend and one of the most successful players, securing 3,807 runs while taking 362 Test match wickets. His achievements won him the title of 1 of 8 cricketers to achieve ‘All-rounder’s Triple in Test matches. In 2010, Khan Sahab was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame.

2. Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre

Imran Khan launched a fundraising campaign to collect donation to start a cancer hospital in Lahore in the memory of his later mother. He successfully raised a total of Rs.25,000,000 and established the first hospital in Lahore in 1994, followed by another hospital in Peshawar in 2015. Shaukat Khanum is Pakistan’s largest cancer hospital and its largest radiation oncology centre.

Celebrity support for Shaukat Khanum has continued throughout the years. Notable Pakistani Actor, Fawad Khan, dedicated his debut Bollywood film titled ‘Khoobsurat’ to the foundation. The Hospital launched an awareness campaign for Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October) in 2015 with the help of singer, Hadiqa Kiani, and film actress, Mahira Khan. Even Princess Diana has visited the hospital in the 90’s.

3. Marriages

In May 1995, Imran Khan married Jemima Marcelle Goldsmith, later known to be Jemima Khan, in a two-minute ceremony in Paris. The two tied the knot once again a month later in June in a civil ceremony in England.

During their marriage, the couple had two boys, Sulaiman Isa and Kasim. However, the marriage came to an end 9-years later in 2004. In January 2015, Khan remarried to Reham Khan in a private nikkah ceremony, however, this too could not last long and the couple filed for divorce in October.

4. Famous Affairs & Flings

Imran Khan has been rumored to be a women-magnet back in his days. Rumors of Khan being in a secret relationship with Bollywood’s Zeenat Aman started to spread like wild fire in the 70s-80s while he was on tours to India. At times, his friends would bring up the affair when he seemed fatigued the next day during the match to pull his leg.

The philanthropist was also rumored to be in a secret relationship with Sita White before his marriage to Jemima- their relationship came to an end with a genetic determination of paternity.

5. Child Controversy

Khan is rumored to have a child with Sita White, named Tyrian Khan. The relationship between Khan Sahab and Tyrian has also been hidden in the clouds, for a very long time- Khan denied her to be his blood, whereas the genetic determination petition filed by her mother claims that she is his daughter.

Imran has always been a father-like figure for her since she was born, even after denials. Tryian is also close to his ex-wife Jemima Khan, and her two sons, who are her step-brothers. Last year, she spent her 23rd birthday with the Khans, according to a British newspaper. We do not know how much of this is true, though!

6. Formation of Pakistan Tehrek-e-Insaaf

Pakistan Tehrek-e-Insaf (Pakistan Movement for Justice) is a political party based in Pakista; it was founded in 1996 by former national Pakistan national cricket captain, Imran Khan.

The Third Way Centrist party has the vision to create a welfare state through which it will be responsible for the employment of citizens, health, and provision of education to every man, woman, and child.

Though the party had been existent for some time, it gained hype in 2013 when it received over 7.5 million votes, making it one of the biggest and strongest parties in Pakistan.

Quality Streets Wrappers Are Getting A Makeover – Here’s How!

The famous Quality Street candies have changed their packaging. The news has it that the new wrapping is sustainable and is also changing people’s association. Read more about it here:

What’s New?

The foil and plastic wrappers on Quality Street’s multicolored candy have been replaced with recyclable paper, making the brand’s products, at least in theory, a little bit greener. Harold Mackintosh founded the company in 1936 with the goal of preventing 2 billion plastic wrappers from entering landfills and since then it has become a worldwide phenomenon. This transition represents the brand’s first departure from rustling, sparkling plastic wrappers in 86 years.

What Have They Changed From?

After trying to replace the outer plastic layer with compostable cellulose in 2008, the brand’s owner, Nestlé, discovered that the majority of those products were still thrown in the trash.

Nine out of the eleven Quality Street candies will switch to paper packaging now. These will also be often collected by municipal governments. The orange crunch and green triangle will continue to be packaged in foil since there is no plastic layer on them historically.

A specifically developed vegetable-based coating that keeps the candy fresh without impeding recycling is applied to the new paper wrappers.

This Christmas Updates

This Christmas, fans of Quality Street will discover a mixture of old and new wrappers in their tubs and tins because the transformation will take several months to complete.

The company that owns the well-known holiday sweets, Nestlé, announced that it was also replacing KitKat wrappers with plastic that was 80% recycled and could be recycled in Ireland’s homes or at supermarkets across the UK.

21 years have passed since KitKat switched from its conventional, 100% recyclable paper and foil package to plastic. Last year, Nestlé-owned Smarties debuted recyclable paper packaging.

What Does It Do For The Environment?

The business stated that it thought the modifications will eliminate 3 billion pieces of packaging from its supply chain annually.

Consumers were most worried about how simple it was to recycle plastic wrapping, according to Helen Bird of the government-backed recycling group Wrap, and this necessitated appropriate design, collection, and infrastructure as well as demand for the recovered material.

“Local authorities do not currently collect plastic wrappers, but this is expected to change in the upcoming years,” she said. Leading supermarkets are offering 5,000 collection locations for all kinds of plastic bags and wrappers in the interim.

Google Pixel 7 & Pro Launch Event: Here’s What To Expect

This fall, Google’s hardware showcase is set to be exceptional because many new products are being launched. Not only will the Pixel 7 make its official debut at this event, but also the company’s first self-branded smartwatch, the Pixel Watch. So, here’s everything you need to know about it here:

What Is The Event About?

The Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, two of Google’s newest smartphones, will likely be the main topic of the event. They’ll mostly iterate on the Pixel 6 series, according to an official preview at the I/O conference this spring. Expect a modern yet recognizable design with a smooth aluminium frame that reaches the camera bar. A new Tensor G2 chip will also be available, promising enhanced performance for media, speech recognition, and other applications.

They will utilise Android 13. The Pixel 6 Pro adds a third back camera, while the original model has two like the standard Pixel 6.

Pixel Watch

The Pixel Watch, however, will be the focal point for many. It’s the first official smartwatch from Google and will act as a demonstration of Wear OS 3. Expect close Fitbit integration with tracking for general health, sleep, and fitness. With an upscale-looking shell, a pronounced crown, and readily swappable (if proprietary) bands, the company borrows certain design elements from the Apple Watch, but it uses a circular display like many other Wear OS devices.

Google hasn’t revealed much about what’s inside, but a prototype found in a restaurant indicates that Fitbit Charge 5-like heart rate, blood oxygen, and ECG monitoring are present. Additionally, we wouldn’t be shocked if Wallet features included tap-to-pay. 9to5 The Pixel Watch, according to Google sources, could employ a standard Samsung Exynos CPU rather than a specially designed Tensor component, but it would still have 32GB of storage, 2GB of RAM (although the Galaxy Watch has “only” 1.5GB), and a coprocessor to manage battery life.

Wildcards and Tablets

There haven’t been any reliable speculations about extra hardware being present. However, we wouldn’t completely rule it out. Few would have predicted that Google would preview the Pixel Tablet well in advance of its 2023 debut; it is now possible that you may see a teaser for further goods.

Google for Startups Accelerator: Circular Economy launches in Pakistan

Google is launching Google for Startups Accelerator: Circular Economy for startups and non-profit organizations in Pakistan, Asia-Pacific and North America. The program will select organizations that use technology to solve circularity challenges including reuse, refill, recycling, composting, fashion, food, safe and circular materials, and the built environment.

Asia-Pacific is a good starting point to innovate and create circular economy solutions. It is the world’s most vulnerable region to climate change’s impact. Only ten rivers contribute 90% of all river-borne plastic in the ocean, eight of which are in APAC. By 2040, Asia is expected to account for 40% of global consumption.

Humanity consumes far more than what the planet can naturally replenish. In 2022, global demand for resources is projected to be 1.75 times what the earth’s ecosystems can regenerate in a year. And most of the resources that we extract and use eventually become waste — adding to the more than 2 billion tons of solid waste created each year. The programme hopes to support startups that will help create a circular economy that is safer, sustainable, and more equitable for everyone, which will rebuild our relationship with physical resources and solve circularity challenges.

Through a mix of 1-to-1 and 1-to-many learning sessions, the accelerator offers ten weeks of virtual programming that includes technical assistance and mentoring from Google engineers and external experts. Participants will also be assigned a dedicated Success Manager for even more support that is specific to their organization.

So, hotels or AirBnBs? Since the renowned accommodation rental platform first appeared in the travel industry more than ten years ago, there has been a discussion between Airbnb and hotels. Rightfully so! These two types of lodging are very different from one another and each has advantages and disadvantages. Let’s find out about them to make our decision!

The Differences

For travelers on vacation, hotel rooms are typically preferable than Airbnb stays for a number of reasons. However, the decision, ultimately, comes down to personal preference. Even while an Airbnb may be preferable for extended stays, unless there is a high-end property, the apartment rentals frequently lack and luxury conveniences that hotels offer.

Moreover, because of the local housing crisis that are usually caused by Airbnbs, hotels are the preferred accommodation for socially conscious tourists.

The Grand Hyatt, PC, and more are the big names that have become established in the hotel industry. They have become this big for a reason— it’s because the luxury that hotels offer can never be matched by something else. Here are the advantages of a hotel:

24/7 customer service, you don’t have to do anything yourself
Usually comes with more amenities, the luxury aspect is pronounced
Potential to meet fellow travelers and make friends
More convenient
Usually, in a central location, you don’t have to spend a lot on fares
Overall more luxurious atmosphere, conference rooms and salons nearby
Does not take housing options away from locals (let’s be ethical!)

However, hotels aren’t all that ideal either. There are some problems with them too. These are what you should be careful about:

They break the bank
A lot of paperwork for everything whereas Airbnb is simply an app
They overcharge for the smallest additions or services like laundry or pressing
There may be noise
