EU Warns of Retaliation Regarding Trump’s New Tariffs

EU Warns of Retaliation Regarding Trump's New Tariffs

US President Donald Trump has recently suggested new tariffs on the European Union, reigniting trade apprehensions with the 27-nation bloc.

At the White House, while speaking to reporters, Trump was asked whether he planned to initiate tariffs on the EU. “Do you want the truthful answer or the political answer?” he responded. “Absolutely.”

The Republican Leader, who consistently criticised the EU for unfair trade practices, reaffirmed his stance, stating, “The European Union has treated us so terribly.”

During his first tenure in 2018, Trump imposed tariffs on European steel and aluminium exports, triggering a trade dispute. In retaliation, the EU placed duties on American goods, including whiskey and motorcycles.

EU to respond ‘Firmly’ to Trump’s new tariffs.

The European Union has indicated that it will react “firmly” if Washington introduces new tariffs.

A spokesperson for the commission told AFP that the EU “regrets the US decision to impose tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China,” calling such measures “economically disruptive” and inflationary.

The spokesperson stated, “The EU would respond firmly to any trading partner that unfairly or arbitrarily imposes tariffs on EU goods.” He noted that the bloc had not yet received details of any specific actions targetting European products.

The commission emphasised the significance of a robust transatlantic trade partnership, highlighting it as “the largest in the world” and urged Washington to prioritise cooperation rather than confrontation.

European leaders are scheduled to gather in Brussels on Monday to review Trump’s latest statements and consider possible retaliatory actions.

Beyond trade conflicts, tensions between Trump and European allies have also risen due to his renewed interest in Greenland. The mineral-rich Arctic island, an autonomous Danish territory, has been a longstanding point of interest in Trump’s ambitions.

Pakistan Begins Crocodile Farming for Leather and Tourism

Crocodile farming has officially begun in Pakistan to support the leather industry and tourism. The farm is located in one of Sindh’s hottest districts, Jacobabad, where a local landowner has taken this unique step at Bhambhore Farmhouse, a village near the city. These reptiles, usually found in swamps and ponds, now roam freely in a controlled environment.

The farm owner stated that crocodiles take five years to mature, growing up to 21 feet long and weighing nearly one ton. “Their skins are highly valuable and used in making luxury leather products. I am focusing on raising them professionally to meet international standards,” he added. This initiative could strengthen Pakistan’s presence in the global leather market.

One Dead, Thousands Urged to Evacuate as Floods Hit Australia’s Northeast

56 Killed, 158 Injured in Paramilitary Attack in Sudan's Omdurman

On Sunday, at least 56 people were killed and 158 injured when a shell struck a crowded vegetable market in Omdurman, Sudan’s Health Ministry confirmed.

The attack, blamed on the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), has been defined as one of the deadliest in recent weeks and has further exacerbated the humanitarian crises in the war-ravaged country.

Sudan’s Minister of Culture and government spokesperson, Khalid al-Aleisir strongly condemned the attack, pointing out that many of the victims were women and children. “This criminal act adds to the bloody record of this militia,” he stated. “It constitutes a blatant violation of international humanitarian law.”
According to the eyewitnesses, the shelling originated from the western Omdurman, RSF-controlled area and was accompanied by drone strikes.

“The shells fell in the middle of the vegetable market, that’s why there are so many victims and wounded,” one survivor told AFP. Another resident described the constant bombardment, saying rockets and artillery shells rained down on multiple streets simultaneously.

Medical staff at the nearby Al Nao Hospital struggled to manage many patients. A hospital volunteer said, “We are in dire need of shrouds, blood donors and stretchers to transport the wounded.”

According to the local Emergency Response Room (ERR), in another incident in Khartoum, two civilians were killed and dozens injured in airstrikes in an area controlled by the RSF.

The violence occurred just a day after RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Daglo vowed to retake Khartoum from the army. “We expelled them before, and we will expel them again,” he said in a rare video message.
