Telehealth company Hims & Hers is facing criticism for its Super Bowl commercial promoting compounded versions of weight loss drugs similar to Wegovy and Ozempic. The ad highlights flaws in the U.S. healthcare system but does not disclose that these drugs are unapproved by the Food and Drug Administration. Health experts warn that the omission misleads consumers and could pose safety risks.
Elizabeth Glowacki, a health communication expert at Northeastern University, argues that the ad gives the false impression that consumers can self-prescribe these medications without medical supervision. “They make it seem as though you can take all of this into your own hands without supervision, which can have harmful consequences,” she said.
The ad uses emotional storytelling and visually appealing packaging, a tactic known as fear appeal marketing. Glowacki warns that the ad’s design, particularly its green-labelled packaging, may falsely suggest the drugs are safer than they actually are.
Hims & Hers has defended its campaign, saying critics are protecting a flawed healthcare system. However, Glowacki advises consumers to be cautious and consult a healthcare provider before using such drugs. “Still talk to your doctor and always scrutinise ingredients before use,” she said.

Hundreds of Pakistani Umrah pilgrims were offloaded from flights due to the absence of a polio vaccination certificate. At Lahore Airport, several Saudi-bound passengers were denied boarding passes for failing to present the required document.
Saudi Arabia has made polio vaccination mandatory for Umrah pilgrims from Pakistan. While oral polio vaccine (OPV) drops are available at health facilities, only District Health Officers (DHOs) can update vaccination records in the NADRA system. This has caused delays, as DHOs struggle with the overwhelming number of certification requests.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has suspended the requirement for Neisseria meningitis vaccination for Pakistani travelers. Khaleej Times reported that Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) issued a circular to all airlines, reversing a previous directive. However, the polio vaccination rule remains in place, impacting hundreds of travellers.

TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, has unveiled a new AI tool that can turn a single photo into a realistic video. Named OmniHuman-1, this tool can make people in images move, talk and even play instruments. ByteDance claims it outperforms other AI tools by creating lifelike videos with minimal input, primarily using just audio.
Works with Any Image Size
OmniHuman-1 isn’t limited to facial expressions; it works with portraits, half-body, and full-body images and creates smooth, high-quality movements. Other AI models usually animate faces, but this tool makes the whole body move naturally.
Unlike most AI video generators, OmniHuman-1 goes beyond simple mouth movements. It can create hand gestures and body movements and even show different angles of a person. Researchers have shared sample videos in which it brings both people and animals to life with fluid motion.
Albert Einstein in Motion
One striking example is a black-and-white video of Albert Einstein talking and moving his hands in front of a blackboard. The AI generates realistic facial expressions and hand gestures, making the video look incredibly real.
ByteDance says it trained OmniHuman-1 using over 18,700 hours of human videos. The AI learned to generate natural movements using inputs like text, audio and physical poses. Researchers believe this method helps it perform better than similar tools.
While OmniHuman-1 isn’t the first AI that turns images into videos, ByteDance may have an edge since it likely used TikTok’s massive video library for training. The company claims this AI produces smoother, more realistic results than its competitors. Only time will tell if it really does.

Kendrick Lamar delivered a powerful Super Bowl 2025 halftime performance, joining the long list of artists who performed without pay. The NFL only covers production and travel costs, as confirmed by a spokesperson to Forbes in 2016. Despite this, Lamar expressed excitement before the show, stating, “Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date. And I’ll be there to remind the world why. They got the right one.”
While artists don’t receive direct payment, they gain massive exposure. Newsweek reported that Shakira and Jennifer Lopez saw streaming spikes of 230% and 335%, respectively, after their 2020 halftime show. Similarly, Bruno Mars’ album Unorthodox Jukebox saw a 92% sales jump, pushing it from No. 7 to No. 3 on the Billboard Top 200, as detailed by Forbes.
For Lamar, the impact of his Super Bowl performance has yet to unfold. However, his influence continues to grow, as evidenced by his recent five Grammy wins for Not Like Us and the announcement of his 2025 Grand National Tour with SZA.

South Africa captain Temba Bavuma believes that the Champions Trophy format is tougher than the ODI World Cup. He said, “It is not like the 50-over World Cup where you actually have time to step up every now and then. Here, we will really have to be on top of our game.” He emphasised that teams must perform well from the start since there is little time to settle in.
South Africa will begin their Champions Trophy 2025 campaign against Afghanistan on February 21 in Karachi. Their second match will be against Australia on February 25 in Rawalpindi, followed by a clash with England on March 1 in Karachi. Bavuma highlighted the importance of starting strong: “We have set our sights on where we want to be in the Champions Trophy, but we know that we are gonna have to play well from game one.”
Bavuma also spoke about the tri-nation series in Pakistan, calling it a great opportunity for domestic and T20 league players to prove themselves. “It is a lovely opportunity for a couple of guys who have been doing well in domestic cricket and in T20 leagues to make a statement on what value they can add to the team,” he highlighted.
He added that playing in Pakistan before the Champions Trophy will help the team understand the conditions better. “The tri-series will give us a chance to acclimate to playing in Pakistan and get knowledge to share with a wider group, and it is also an opportunity for young players to keep playing in the future.”

Shockingly, a black devil fish (Melanocetus johnsonii), a deep-sea predator, was discovered near the ocean’s surface off the island of Tenerife, Spain. Marine photographer David Jara Boguna posted the astonishing footage on his Instagram just last week.
A Deep-Sea Predator in Shallow Waters
Researchers suspect this could be the first recording of the black devilfish during the day. Typically, this species is thought to reside within the deep sea, where it is believed they live anywhere between 200 and 2000 meters under the surface.
Instead, this peculiar fish was spotted approximately two kilometres off the coastline of Tenerife while a shark surveying campaign was underway. The reason why this fish has anomalously appeared in shallow waters remains unexplained. Some hypotheses include being sick, changing current, or escaping another fish.
The black devilfish is a skilled predator. It uses a bioluminescent lure on its head to attract prey, much like the anglerfish in Finding Nemo. It typically inhabits tropical and subtropical seas and was first discovered near Madeira.
A Landmark Discovery for Marine Research
The sighting excited marine researchers and ocean lovers alike. It highlights the importance of deep-sea exploration and proves that even well-studied areas can hold surprises.
Tenerife’s waters are home to incredible biodiversity, and this sighting reminds us of how much remains undiscovered beneath the ocean’s surface.

Jadon Sancho has seemingly aimed at Manchester United after Marcus Rashford’s debut for Aston Villa in their 2-1 FA Cup fourth-round win over Tottenham Hotspur. Rashford, who joined Villa on loan in January, came off the bench for a 24-minute appearance. After the match, he posted on social media, “Thank you for the warm welcome. Great team performance.”
Sancho, currently on loan at Chelsea from Manchester United, replied with a single word: “Freedom.” His response has been widely seen as a criticism of Manchester United, where he and Rashford faced struggles under Erik ten Hag. Sancho’s issues with the club intensified after a public fallout with Ten Hag last year, which led to his exile from the first team before securing his loan move to Chelsea.
Rashford, despite scoring 30 goals in the 2022/23 season, saw a sharp decline in form. Several clubs, including Barcelona, AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus and Napoli, were interested in signing him. However, his high wages and inconsistent performances made negotiations difficult. Aston Villa secured his loan after selling Jhon Durán to Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League.
Unai Emery praised Rashford’s debut, noting his positive impact on the team. However, he emphasised the need for patience as Rashford adapts to the squad. Meanwhile, Sancho’s comment suggests unresolved frustration with his time at Manchester United. Both players are now focused on rebuilding their careers, but their long-term futures remain uncertain.

French President Emmanuel Macron has decided to launch the Paris AI Action Summit in an unusual way: by shooting AI-generated deepfake videos featuring himself. And what a festival of fantasies! Macron is shown dancing and rapping along to the 1980s hit “Voyage Voyage,” sparring with actor Jean Dujardin in a spy comedy. The videos quickly went viral, sparking amusement, confusion and discussion about AI’s growing role in politics.
Source: CNA
Macron acknowledged the humour behind the clips, appearing in the videos himself and commenting, “It’s pretty well done; it made me laugh.” However, his message went beyond entertainment. He used the opportunity to highlight AI’s potential to revolutionise industries such as healthcare, energy and public services. The videos served as a creative marketing tool to draw attention to the AI Action Summit, where world leaders will discuss the global trajectory of artificial intelligence.
Deepfake Diplomacy or Dangerous Precedent?
Macron’s strategy is a double-edged sword. While this is a forward-looking, tech-savvy leadership style that, through AI, shows it can help engage and reach. By using deepfake within controlled and comical limits, Macron has shown his willingness to reach younger, more tech-inclined audiences and make the AI discussion more accessible.
However, critics argue that normalising deepfakes—especially in politics—sets a risky precedent. Deepfake technology has already been misused to spread misinformation and manipulate public opinion. While Macron’s initiative was transparent and lighthearted, it raises questions about the ethical implications of AI-generated media in politics. Will deepfakes become a tool for strategic deception in the future? How do governments ensure that AI remains a force for good rather than a weapon of disinformation?
The Future of AI in Political Messaging
Macron’s deepfake campaign points to a broader trend: politicians and governments are increasingly relying on AI for public engagement. World leaders will probably grapple with all this complexity at the Paris summit as they attempt to balance AI’s potential against its risks.
For now, Macron’s strategy has succeeded in capturing attention. With over 73,000 likes on his Instagram post, he has sparked a global conversation about AI’s role in governance. The question remains: Will other politicians follow suit, or will deepfake diplomacy remain a Macron signature move?

February 10 is celebrated worldwide as World Pulse Day. The United Nations initiated this day to create an advocacy campaign to promote awareness of pulses. These tiny powerhouses are vital in fighting hunger, enhancing health, and saving the environment. Pulses are economical, healthful and environmentally friendly, so they deserve a special day.
What are Pulses?
Pulses are edible seeds from plants belonging to the leguminous family. Some examples are lentils, chickpeas, beans, or peas. For thousands of years, different cultures and communities have integrated pulses into their diets. A significant portion of the world’s population and their cultures have traditional meals revolving around pulses. They are very easy to cultivate and preserve, which is why they can be relied upon as a robust source of food.
Pulses are Packed with Nutrition
Pulses are full of important nutrients. They provide protein, fibre and essential vitamins. Many people who do not eat meat can get their protein from pulses. These tiny powerhouses also contain iron, which keeps the body strong and active. Since pulses have a low-fat content, they help maintain a healthy weight. Eating pulses regularly can improve digestion and keep the heart healthy. Talk about being an overachiever, right?
Pulses are said to be extremely beneficial for humans, but in addition, they are also beneficial for the planet. Growing pulses needs less water than other crops. Pollution is lessened due to this as plants use up the leftover nitrogen in the soil while growing. Chemical fertilisers are not a concern when including pulses in crop rotation thus making agriculture more sustainable.
Pulses Help in Food Security
Many people around the world struggle to find enough food. Pulses can be a solution to this problem. They are affordable and easy to store. This makes them an excellent option for communities that face food shortages. In many countries, government programmes include pulses in school meals to give children better nutrition.
How to Include Pulses in Your Diet
Adding pulses to meals is simple. People enjoy them in soups, salads, curries and even snacks. Cooking pulses is easy and does not take much effort. They can be boiled, mashed, or turned into flour for baking. Whether in a traditional daal or a modern hummus dip, pulses fit into every cuisine.
World Pulse Day reminds us of the power of these small but mighty foods. They are nutritious, affordable and environmentally friendly. Including more pulses in daily meals can improve health and support a sustainable future. So, on February 10, celebrate by enjoying a delicious meal made with pulses!

The debate over birthright citizenship has come back to the forefront, with U.S. President Donald Trump trying to end automatic citizenship for those born on U.S. soil. While the U.S. has long maintained this policy under the 14th Amendment, most countries globally function differently. Citizenship policies mirror broader national identities and immigration concerns.
Divergent Global Policies
Birthright citizenship, or jus soli (right of the soil), is far from a global norm. While it remains common throughout the Americas, like Canada, Mexico and Brazil, the majority of European, Asian and African nations follow jus sanguinis (right of blood), where nationality is based on parents, not place of birth.
Source: NPK
India, for example, once offered birthright citizenship but changed its policy in 2004 out of concern over illegal immigration from neighbouring Bangladesh. Now, at least one parent must be a citizen or permanent resident for an Indian-born child to obtain citizenship. Ireland ended unregulated jus soli in 2004, following accusations the policy encouraged “birth tourism.” Now, at least one parent must have a legal connection to the country.
Some have gone further. The Dominican Republic made birthright citizenship retroactively dependent on the legal status of parents, leaving thousands—largely of Haitian descent—stateless. This drastic action drew international condemnation and subsequent policy reforms to restore citizenship for the affected.
Proponents of restrictive citizenship policies argue that jus soli is outdated in an era of global mobility, mass migration and increasing concerns over national security. Critics, however, warn that altering birthright citizenship could lead to statelessness and legal ambiguities. In the U.S., Trump’s proposal has already met legal resistance, with many experts arguing that the 14th Amendment cannot be undone through executive order alone.
Source: BBC
The future of birthright citizenship remains uncertain as global migration trends evolve and nations reassess how they define belonging. While some countries tighten their laws, others may eventually see the benefits of inclusivity and national cohesion through jus soli. The debate underscores a broader question: Should citizenship be a matter of heritage, geography, or something more?

In a city that rarely makes room for alternative subcultures, Geekcon Karachi has emerged as a much-needed haven for cosplay enthusiasts, anime lovers and K-pop fans. This annual convention is more than just a gathering; it’s a celebration of creativity, self-expression, and community building. It offers a safe space for those who often feel sidelined by mainstream culture.
Why Geekcon Matters
For many people in Karachi, embracing anime, gaming, and K-pop is not only an interest; it has become a way of life. However, just like any other hobby, talking about these things in everyday life can lead to judgment or ridicule. Geekcon Karachi gives people the opportunity to freely wear their favourite characters’ costumes, perform and see K-pop dances, or have heated gaming battles without being criticised.
The importance of such a space cannot be overemphasised. In a society where conventional career paths and traditional norms often overshadow creative pursuits, events like Geekcon offer young people the opportunity to present their artistic skills before an audience in a very rare way. It may be in the form of costume-making, digital art, or choreography; most importantly, there is an audience that appreciates their craft, encourages them to improve and innovate.
The Art of Cosplay
Cosplay is the heart of Geekcon. People spend weeks—sometimes months—crafting detailed costumes that mirror their favourite anime, comic, or gaming characters. What makes cosplay unique is that it’s not just about dressing up; it’s about embodying a character, bringing them to life through performance, expression and attention to detail. This form of artistry fosters confidence, creativity and a strong sense of accomplishment.
Local cosplayers, like Anza Qureshi, have been instrumental in making costume design more accessible. Through thrift finds and DIY techniques, aspiring cosplayers can create stunning outfits without breaking the bank. This resourcefulness has helped Karachi’s cosplay community grow, proving that passion outweighs financial limitations.
Source: Dawn Images
A Platform for Growth
Beyond the costumes and performances, Geekcon plays a crucial role in legitimising these creative outlets. It introduces Karachi’s youth to potential career paths in animation, costume design, digital art and event planning—fields often overlooked in Pakistan. Moreover, the inclusivity of Geekcon fosters a sense of belonging, uniting individuals from different backgrounds under one shared passion.
In a city where creative freedom often feels stifled, Geekcon Karachi is a beacon of acceptance. More than a convention, it’s a movement to prove that alternative cultures have a place in Pakistan’s evolving artistic landscape.

Netflix has just released Apple Cider Vinegar, a mini-series based on a real-life scandal. It tells the shocking story of Belle Gibson, a social media star who tricked the world into believing she had healed herself from a deadly illness. Her lies made her famous, but the truth eventually caught up with her. In today’s world, where influencers can say anything and people will believe it, this series is a wake-up call.
Netflix’s Apple Cider Vinegar: A Must-Watch on Fake Influencers
The Rise of a Wellness Star
Back in 2009, an Australian woman named Belle Gibson claimed she had brain cancer. She said she had cured herself with healthy food and natural remedies—no medicine, no doctors. People were inspired and started following her online.
By 2013, she launched an app called The Whole Pantry. A year later, she released a cookbook that became a bestseller. Big companies, including Apple and Penguin Books, supported her. She also said she was donating money to charity, making people admire her even more.
The Lies Start to Unravel
In 2015, two Australian journalists, Beau Donnelly and Nick Toscano, investigated her story. They found out she had never been sick. She had also lied about having strokes, heart surgeries, and even “dying” on an operating table. None of it was real.
The charities she promised to help never received any money. When people started asking questions, she kept changing her story. Finally, in an interview, she admitted: “None of it is true.”
In 2017, an Australian court found her guilty of lying to the public. She was fined $410,000, but she never paid. With extra charges, the amount has now grown to over $500,000.
In 2021, officials searched her home, trying to recover money. She has mostly stayed out of the public eye, but in 2020, she made news again by claiming she had been “adopted” by a Melbourne community. This only made people more upset.
Why You Need to Watch Apple Cider Vinegar
Netflix’s Apple Cider Vinegar brings this shocking story to life. It shows how easily people can be fooled by influencers, especially in the world of health and wellness.
If you’ve ever followed a social media star for health advice, this series is a must-watch. It reminds us to question what we see online, think for ourselves, and not believe everything influencers say.

Egypt is set to host a summit on February 27, bringing together Arab leaders to discuss developments in Palestinian territories.
Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar spoke with Malaysia’s Foreign Minister Dato’ Seri Utama Hajji Mohamad bin Hajji Hasan on Monday about the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong support for the Palestinian people and backed calls for an Extraordinary OIC meeting to address the crisis.
Dar also engaged with the foreign ministers of Iran and Egypt a day earlier to discuss the situation. His efforts come in response to former US President Donald Trump’s controversial suggestion of placing Gaza under US administration and relocating Palestinians to Egypt and Jordan. The proposal has been widely condemned, particularly by Arab nations, who continue to push for a two-state solution with an independent Palestine.
Egypt is set to host a summit on February 27, bringing together Arab leaders to discuss developments in Palestinian territories. Meanwhile, humanitarian aid continues to flow into Gaza following a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas that began on January 19. However, the truce remains fragile, with Israel insisting it will not withdraw entirely until Hamas is dismantled. Hamas maintains that it will not release the remaining hostages unless Israeli forces leave Gaza.
Under the ceasefire agreement, Hamas is gradually releasing Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners and humanitarian aid. The next phase of the deal includes a full Israeli withdrawal in return for the release of all remaining hostages, including a commitment to lasting peace.

Thankfully, the PCB has confirmed that his injury isn’t serious, and he is expected to recover in time. But just in case things take a turn for the worse, who steps up if Rauf gets ruled out?
Let’s take a look at three potential replacements.
Mohammad Ali – A Red-Ball Specialist Who Can Shine in ODIs
A name that might surprise many, Mohammad Ali has been a standout performer in Pakistan’s domestic circuit. While he’s mostly known for his Test exploits, his List A stats are quite decent too.
📊 List A Stats
Matches: 39
Wickets: 47
Average: 31.27
Ali has a five-wicket haul to his name and has shown promise in the shorter formats as well. His recent T20 performances have been eye-catching, picking up 58 wickets in just 32 games.
Pakistan has a history of transitioning T20 stars into ODIs, and Haris Rauf himself followed this path. Ali’s first-class success makes him an interesting option, and he could provide the control and wicket-taking ability Pakistan needs.
Abbas Afridi – A Wicket-Taker Ready for the Big Stage
At just 23 years old, Abbas Afridi has already proven his worth in T20 internationals. He has taken 30 wickets in 18 innings for Pakistan in the shortest format and is a genuine strike bowler.
📊 List A Stats
Matches: 28
Wickets: 44
Average: 23.34
Afridi has already grabbed two five-wicket hauls and a four-fer in List A cricket, proving that he can be a game-changer in ODIs too. He’s skilled with both the new and old ball, which would be a major boost if Haris Rauf is unavailable.
His ability to bowl at any stage of the game and his variety of slower balls, yorkers, and cutters make him a serious contender. If Pakistan needs a bowler who can strike early and also deliver at the death, Afridi is the man.
Aamir Jamal – The All-Round Option Pakistan Might Need
If Pakistan wants a like-for-like pacer, Aamir Jamal ticks many boxes. The selectors already considered him before the squad announcement, but in the end, they went with Faheem Ashraf.
📊 List A Stats
Matches: 34
Wickets: 56
Average: 29.33
Jamal has played three ODIs for Pakistan, making him the only one on this list with international 50-over experience. That alone gives him an edge over the others.
But there’s more – Jamal can bat. He can clear the ropes when needed, adding valuable depth to Pakistan’s lower order. If the selectors want a replacement who can bring both bowling firepower and batting support, Jamal could be their guy.
Each of these bowlers brings something different to the table:
Mohammad Ali – A steady pacer with solid red-ball experience.
Abbas Afridi – A wicket-taking machine who thrives in white-ball cricket.
Aamir Jamal – The all-rounder who can balance the squad.
If Haris Rauf does get ruled out, Pakistan has solid backup options. But let’s hope he recovers in time because having him fit is crucial for Pakistan’s title defense.
