Back in 2007 when Live from Abbey Road graced our television screens, it was all anyone could talk about. The likes of Snow Patrol, John Mayer, The Killers, Gnarls Barkley, Dave Matthews and countless others were right there on our television screens, performing live every week or so. It was heaven for any music fan.
Fast forward to eight years and Coke Studio made its debut on Pakistani channels after a highly successful stint on MTV Brazil with Estúdio Coca-Cola. Instantly, it made a splash in the nation with its musical fusions of east and west.

When it comes to artists performing, nothing beats watching them live. Since its launch, Coke Studio Pakistan has not only helped in reviving our slowly dwindling music industry, but has also helped in bringing fresh faces and singing voices to both national and international audience.
Consequently, Coke Studio gave a big boost to Pakistan’s music scene, so much so, that several tracks that have been sung as part of the show featured in successful Pakistani as well as Indian films.
Here is a list of some of the highly popular Coke Studio Pakistan songs that made their way into soundtracks of various soundtracks.
Alif Allah (Jugni) by Arif Lohar & Meesha Shafi

Meesha Shafi, who rose to fame with her various acting stints in Pakistani dramas and films such as The Reluctant Fundamentalist and Waar, made her singing debut with Pakistani band ‘Overload’.
However, her rock star career took a really big turn when she featured in the third season of Coke Studio and performed alongside Punjabi folk singer, Arif Lohar. The song Alif Allah (Jugni), which is heavily influenced by the work of 17th century Sufi poet Sultan Bahu, till now remains one of the most popular songs from Coke Studio.
Chal Diyay by Zebunnisa Humayun Bangash & Haniya Aslam ft. Javed Bashir
Season: Coke Studio Season 2 Year of release: 2009 Movie featured in: Behadd Movie version by: Zebunnisa Humayun Bangash and Haniya Aslam
When you have some of the world’s best musicians to work with, there is always a chance of your music becoming a hit too. Same is the case with the cousin duo of Zeb and Haniya, whose mesmerized the nation with their debut album Chup produced by none other than, Mekaal Hassan.
Making an appearance in the second season of Coke Studio, the duo made a further name for themselves with songs such as “Paimana Bitte”, “Chup” and “Chal Diye”.
Chal diye was then featured in Hum TV’s telefilm, Behadd that starred Fawad Khan.
Season: Coke Studio Season 4 Year of release: 2011 Movie featured in: The Reluctant Fundamentalist Movie version by: Fareed Ayaz & Abu Muhammad
Ever since Coke Studio became a permanent fixture in our lives, qawwali has once again risen as the go-to genre of music for youngsters who had little or no interest in the category.
Fareed Ayaz and Abu Muhammad can be credited among several others for making qawwali a popular genre among the younger generation. Their performance of Kangna made its way on the adaptation of Mohsin Hamid’s book The Reluctant Fundamentalist, garnering, even more, praise nationally and internationally.
Season: Coke Studio Season 7 Year of release: 2014 Movie featured in: Ho Mann Jahan Movie version by: Asrar
Mahira Khan along with her equally gorgeous co-stars, Adeel Hussain and Sheheryar Munawwar might be the reason of Ho Mann Jahan’s success. But no one can deny the fact, that the movie’s must-dance-song for mehndi’s, Shakar Wadaan Re is the reason the film gained popularity.
Asrar made waves when he first appeared on the show in 2014 and performed his debut tunes- Sub Aakho Ali Ali and Shakkar Wadaan Re.
Garaj Baras by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan & Ali Azmat
Season: Coke Studio Season 1 Year of release: 2008 Movie featured in: Paap Movie version by: Ali Azmat
In 2003 when this first hit the airwaves, Garaj Baras was all anyone could ever talk about. With the song making its way onto the soundtrack of Pooja Bhatt’s movie Paap, it marked another era of Pakistani musicians marking their dominance in the Bollywood industry.
The song has since won several accolades not only as a single but also for its appearance on the soundtrack of the movie Paap. In 2008, Ali Azmat along with Rahat Fateh Ali Khan performed the song on the first season of Coke Studio.

The Pakistani landscape of short films has been expanding and reaching new heights lately. One such short film that’s reaching international crowds is “Bhai” directed locally which will be screened at TIFF. Here’s why it’s so special:
“Bhai” – The Managing Team
“Bhai” is a Pakistani short film directed and written by Hamza Bangash. The executive producers of the film are Mina Husain of the Pakistan Institute of Living and Learning (PILL) and Salman Ahmed. It has been co-produced by Taha Sabri of Taskeen and Westbury Group. Carol Noronha acts as the producer with Ammar Ul Haque as the DOP.
The managing team is as stellar as they come which is why the film has made a huge splash.
The Trailer
Why Is It Special?
“Bhai” is a short film about two brothers. One of them is on the autism spectrum and the film explores shame, trauma, and brotherhood. In our society, autism is not properly understood and it is impossible to find the right resources for it. It is treated like a hopeless case. However, this movie shows the brother on the spectrum as simply “differently-abled”, a term we have yet to adopt.
This film is special because it casts a person on the spectrum to act in the capacity of a person on the spectrum. Usually, neuro-typical people/actors are made to act out in these roles. “Bhai” is honest in its depiction. Seeing someone actually with a neurological condition is bound to open our eyes. It has the power to make the audience more sensitive to autism.
The Director’s Words
Hamza Bangash, the director and writer of the film, hopes to instigate a change with his decision. By casting a differently-abled person in his short film, he hopes to make a case for the minority. He believes they deserve a chance just as much as neurotypical people do. The Pakistani society/industry lacks in this regard.
Bangash also believes the differently-abled can give more to the industry with their nuanced performances. This also does not only apply to those who are differently-abled. If there is a role of a transgender, instead of turning men/women into one, cast actual transgenders.
It comes as no surprise that “Bhai” has bagged a spot at one of the most prestigious and exclusive film festivals in the world, “The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF)”. The festival will screen it in September, making us all proud beyond belief.

Falak Shabir posted a video on social media, which caused a major uproar. As soon as the video went viral, people started calling out the couple, and at the same time, comparing them with other social media celebrities.
Falak Shabir Posts On Instagram
Recently, Falak posted a video on Instagram showing a lovely locket that had pictures of both of them from their wedding day. As the camera zooms out, we see Sara wearing the locket and smiling, which is bright enough to make your day.
A little gesture made by someone on social media can trigger many people, and the same thing happened with Falak Shabir as they have been in the limelight for showing affection to each other for quite some time now. It seems like people are not ok with the type of content they show on social media anymore.
The comments section of the video is full of people calling out the couple cringey. Some pointed out the choice they made while marrying each other. However, some mentioned that all this love and affection is only shown to social media, and the reality is otherwise.
Here are some of the comments by netizens on social media,
At the same time, some of them mentioned that everything looks good in moderation. It is high time that the couple stops showing everything going on in their lives on social media.

To Normalize Or Not To Normalize
In Pakistan, if a man kills his wife, it’s thought to be normal. However, a man showing affection towards his wife is considered to be cringey. Why? Why does society have a total lack of regard for someone who wants to normalise a particular thing that should be normal in the first place? Yet, at the same time, no one would dare to step in if he sees a man abusing his wife because that’s his matter.
The things we have normalised in our society and the things we refrain from normalising tend to say a lot about the things that matter. A happy household and wife is much better than a toxic environment where no affection can bud insecurities. And if you can they why not show and tell someone that you care?

Lahore: Zameen.com — Pakistan’s largest real estate enterprise — celebrated the country’s 74th Independence Day with enthusiasm and respect. The primary celebration in this regard was held at the project site of Zee Avenue; a mixed-use, state-of-the-art real estate development featuring the world-famous hotel Ramada by Wyndham. The event was attended by Zameen.com Senior Director Laeeq Chaudhary, Directors Basil Hafeez, Muhammad Usman, Ali Rehan, and Haider Murtaza, along with the management of Zee Avenue and Ramada by Wyndham.
Addressing the Independence Day ceremony, Mr. Chaudhary stated that Pakistan had achieved its freedom as a result of the unimaginable sacrifices made by our forefathers, and that we all have a part to play in protecting and developing our country. He added that August 14 was a reminder for the people of this country to forget their ethnic differences and unite to become one nation — with every citizen willing to sacrifice all for the betterment of Pakistan. The senior director further said that Zameen.com had done everything in its capacity to bring innovation to the real estate industry and that the company had played a pioneering role in promoting economic activity in the property sector and its related industries.
A spokesperson representing Zee Avenue and Ramada by Wyndham also took the opportunity to address the crowd, saying that everyone present at the ceremony wanted to see Pakistan become a prosperous country. However, he added that in order for the country to succeed, each person had to play their part in the process. He further said that “Independence is a divine blessing and in order to achieve it, unforgettable sacrifices had to be made, which is why we have been able to live as a free nation for so long”.
In addition to this ceremony, Zameen.com organized Independence Day celebrations in all of its regional offices. A cake-cutting ceremony was also organized and the company’s employees offered prayers for Pakistan’s success on the occasion.
Hamza Ali Abbasi has often clarified many issues pertaining to religion as he has immense knowledge of deen. In a recent interview, he tackled one of the most controversial and misinformed topics in Islam— the four marriages. The actor then explained the background of it and we want to say: louder for the ones at the back!
Extraordinary Situations
Hamza Ali Abbasi asks people to look at what caused the mention/allowance of four marriages to come about. The event that prompted it was the war of Uhad. This was so because, after the war, women and children were on the streets as their breadwinners passed away. Social institutions also failed to exist which is when a revelation came.
In this extraordinary situation, Allah first asked men to care for the orphans. If they couldn’t do that, then marry their mothers so you care for them all.
Four Wives – But How?
In this case, Allah also set a limit of four marriages. After the battle in order to bring the society back to harmony, men were allowed to marry up to 4 women. This would mean more women are settled and their children also have security for their futures.
However, even in this allowance, Allah gave many instructions, said Hamza Ali Abbasi. Allah especially asked to do more than one marriage if ‘insaf’ can be done between each wife. According to Hamza Ali Abbasi, being fair is extremely difficult hence, only one should be done.
Many in our society believe that the Book has ordered Muslims to marry more than once or marry four times. However, Hamza Ali Abbasi believes that is not the case. He shares how in the Arab tradition, people married unlimitedly. However, Allah restricted that to four.
Even after restriction, He advised marrying once as that is better and prevents one from being wrongful. If men marry in zest four times and then are unable to be fair to their wives, they will be punished severely.
Thus, the allowance came at a special, extraordinary time. Moreover, it came in a nuanced way— it did not come without its restrictions, conditions and limitations. One should not overestimate themselves to think they can fulfil all obligations. As Hamza Ali Abbasi said, it is best to do only one. Nowadays, men can hardly keep their only wife content, what will four do?

We are all witnesses to PM Imran Khan making several promises to the nation when he made his government. Promises that in total went slightly above 50 were such that they could tackle the worsening condition of the country. Hence, they lit up hope in the hearts of all of us. But what is the current status? Are they even being completed?
Out of almost 50, 2 have been implemented completely, while 6 promises are partially completed. The rest are all ongoing, with only a handful that didn’t even get started. These numbers may seem discouraging, but the promises were huge, and hence, they are actually encouraging.
The promises that saw completion are:
Taskforce to recover the looted wealth
The current government was especially vocal about dealing with corruption in the country by establishing a special task force with the goal to recover national monetary resources laundered by the corrupt and stored offshore. On July 13, 2021, PM Imran Khan urged those present in United Nations High-Level Political Forum to stop the huge amount of illegally gained finance from being funneled out of the developing countries. The Premier also mentioned recovering stolen assets of developing countries.
Attract overseas Pakistanis’ investment
The government’s manifesto also included increasing the stake of overseas Pakistanis and involving them more in state matters. On April 29, 2021, the PM called expatriates of Pakistan a “big asset.” He encouraged Pakistani embassies and high commissions to help settle any issues these overseas Pakistanis have rather than being a hurdle to them.
Although not completed, there are some processes nearing completion.
Building 5 million houses
The manifesto of the current government pledges to facilitate the development of approximately 5 million housing units. Of 5 million, 1.5 to 2 million were in urban areas, while the rest of the 3 to 3.5 housing units were in rural house units. In an update regarding the matter, it was announced that 20,000 housing units have already been constructed under the Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme.
The existing BISP program
PM Imran has always been clear about alleviating poverty. He has taken numerous steps to do that through the Ehsaas program. The program includes not just the men as the patriarch system might intend. In fact, one avenue of the Ehsaas program provides stipends directly to girls.
In another installment, Benazir Income Support Program was also renamed to Ehsaas.
As previously mentioned, the government places due importance on overseas Pakistanis. In that light, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting said they would introduce electronic voting machines. I-Voting will be a big step towards giving overseas Pakistanis the right and ability to vote.
Gender-based violence courts were promised in order to “provide additional protection and a speedy resolution to women.” Recently, President Dr. Arif Alvi declared all session courts in Pakistan as special courts to provide justice and by putting accused of rape on trials. This fast implementation of promises, no matter how incomplete, brings peace into the hearts of all of us.
Structural reform to establish National Commission on Minorities
To empower the minorities, a National Commission for Minorities was proposed. After being in talks with different ulema and mashaikh of various schools of thought, the government said that the minorities in Pakistan were given indisputable rights through the Constitution of Pakistan. They will now be enforced actively to ensure that the minorities felt safer.

Public and police interaction to be made easier
Public outreach to police was proposed to be made easier through modernized measures such as policing apps, SMS systems, and online FIRs and call centers.
Just the last month, the KP police chief mentioned the public outreach program and how he had used the system to reach out to people stuck in different situations.
Numerous other promises are in the processing stage. Seeing as to how others were also completed, we have high hopes for the ones that haven’t been started yet.

Apple just seems to be surprising us at every turn. There isn’t a front on the tech market where they haven’t made the company. The company is rising at a swift rate and everyone wants to be a part of their innovations. Just a while back, we heard about the new MagSafe power bank for iPhone. Now, we are seeing yet another development by the company. This one involves ‘AirPlay’ and it allows the user to play their iPhone on a Mac!
That sounds like quite a useful feature and one that everyone can use with ease. However, there are some catches when it comes to actually use AirPlay. Firstly, it is essential that you have the latest tech by Apple when you intend to use this feature. Yes, one requires iOS 15 and macOS before AirPlay can be used.
AirPlay Is An Innovation
Through this feature, one can use their iPhone and use it on the Mac. It is exactly how you would think it works and Apple has already done something similar with the tv. So now, if you get a video or a long message on your iPhone, you can simply open up and read it on the Mac, if it’s nearby. You can even use it to watch long videos while you sit back and relax. Instead of being glued to the small screen, you can watch the big screen from a distance.
The method for using AirPlay is quite simple. It can be achieved in a number of steps so let us list those down,
On iPhone, swipe to reveal the control centre
Tap Screen Mirroring option
If Mac appears in the list of devices, connect to it
Dismiss the control centre and play your video
Once all this is done, your video should be playing on the Mac, allowing you to watch it with ease.
If you don’t wish to mirror the entire phone and just watch a specific video, that too can be done. Simply go to the Youtube video you wish to watch on the Mac, and pause it. Next, follow these steps,
Once done, that particular video will start playing on your Mac, allowing a connection between the phone and the computer. This also seems like quite a handy feature and will probably be used by a lot of people. Who knows, maybe someone wants to watch the new ‘Vsauce’ video on their mac instead of an iPhone screen.
iOs and android are two operating systems that have been locking horns for a while now. One tries to overcome the other and the other catch up soon enough. However, there are instances in between where one assists the other. Just like that, iOS is now making it easier for android users to join FaceTime. Yes, the exclusive application on iOS is going to make its way in android phones now. However, there is a catch right now.
For now, this feature itself is available only in the beta testing phase. However, soon it will be made publicly available. Whether you are a fan of FaceTime or not, you may find it fun to use with friends who don’t share a similar passion for iOS.
So, how is it that android users can now get access to this application? No, it has not been made available in the play store. Although, that possibility is not out of the question shortly. However, joining FaceTime right now is a different process. Android users cannot directly join the application, but they can join a call using a link given to them by an iOS user. The iPhone user will go in the FaceTime settings and create a link there.
Then, this link can be shared with specific people, those that the user wants on the FaceTime call. Once the android user clicks on the link, it will redirect them to a lobby where they must wait before entering. It is entirely up to the iOS user who enters the call and who doesn’t. This means that if the URL is sent to a third party, they cannot join the call. After all, FaceTime offers end-to-end encryption.
Innovative Moves
While this may not be the most convenient way to join FaceTime, it is certainly a good start and to be able to join an iOS app using a link shows cross-platform compatibility. The android users can access the link through the latest versions of the web browsers of chrome and edge on android and windows devices. We hope that this feature comes out publicly soon. If you wish to test it now, you can always sign up for the beta testing program.
Additionally, it is essential for Apple devices to have iOS 15 or macOS Monterey in order to use this feature. It cannot work on lower versions so you have to upgrade either way. Let us see what other ingenious innovations the company comes up with in the future.

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (NFAK) has been crowned as the king of Qawwalis. The late singer made his name globally as his voice charmed, inspired, and moved each who heard it. On his 24th death anniversary today, we can’t help but remember his legendary voice. To that end, his voice and music composition skills were also heavily integrated in India. This was the first time he stepped into Bollywood. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Roger White collaborated to compose songs for this movie. One of the most haunting melodies of the movie was ‘Choti Si Umar’ and it was composed by NFAK. It talks about bidding goodbye to daughters at a very young age with the background of child marriage.
2. ‘Meri Saason Mein’ – Aur Pyar Ho Gaya (1997)
This was totally in the ballpark of NFAK’s greatest hits, a romantic hit! This composition was also done by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Khan gave it a Hindustani classical touch by using the sitar and tabla and it was sung by Udit Narayan.
3. ‘Ishq Ka Rutba’ – Kartoos (1999)
In this song, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan also lent his majestic voice. He adopted many verses from his independent song from his Pakistani album. The song was also made more contemporary with the musical composition. Such is his magic that the film flopped but the song is one of the greatest hits of India.
4. Mere Rashke Qamar
The famous and revered Qawali of NFAk Mere Rashke Qamar was recently re-done by India in a Bollywood film. In 2017 for an Ajay Devgan movie titled “BaadShaaho” the song by NFAK was integrated.
The re-imagined:
The original:
5. Sanu Ik Pal Chain Na Aave
This was re-sung by none other than Rahat Fateh Ali Khan in 2018. The song is originally by NFAK and much of the same lyrics have been retained. The melody has changed, however, to fit the contemporary movie. It was re-sung for Raid in 2018.
The re-imagined:
The original:
6. Ye Jo Halka Halka Suroor Hai
This is another one of NFAk’s most famous and loved qawwalis. It was re-imagined with the same lyrics for Fanney Khan starring Aishwariya Rai. The song has been made more upbeat with some additional verses though the essence of the lyrics remains.

It’s a great day for Pakistan’s exports as Inovi Telecom has just exported the first consignment of 5,500 “Made in Pakistan” 4G mobile phones to the Middle East. We hope that this will be the beginning of an era of high value-added exports from Pakistan.

Abdul Razak Dawood added, “We hope that this will be the beginning of an era of high value-added exports from Pakistan.”
Pakistan’s Exports Revamped
Dawood also intimated netizens on the future plans for Pakistan’s exports. The export of phones for the first time marks the beginning of a new era. Dawood said that Pakistan’s traditional exports will now move towards product diversification. “I urge other mobile manufacturers in Pakistan to emulate this example and aggressively export their products,” suggested the commerce advisor.
In the next few years, we are going to be focusing on exporting motorcycles. In an event at the Faisalabad Chambers of Commerce, Dawood said that the total volume of Pakistan’s exports should move up to $200 billion. Pakistan is in dire need of in-flow capital from abroad, this is the key to it. According to economists, the national economy is on the right track, though at the very initial stages. Dawood also reiterated the PM’s priority to facilitate exporters.

Pakistan’s national structure is on the up and up when it comes to becoming digitalized. Now NCOC has created an app to help facilitate people with their vaccination certificates. Thanks to the app, the digital COVID-19 vaccination pass will be with you at all times.
NCOC’s Latest Development
The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) collaborated with the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) to launch an app. The app is called ‘Pak Covid-19 Vaccination Pass App’. The link will take you to the app store from where you can download it!
The app allows each user to easily download the Covid vaccination certificate from the Nadra website to their phones.

The app making us all surprised has been developed for many reasons. Firstly, it is to facilitate people in carrying their digital Covid-19 vaccination certificate. Since the usual does not download on phone, many get it printed. Moreover, the Pak Covid-19 Vaccination Pass App will also help identify fake vaccination certificates.

How To Get Yours?
The NHS ministry officials also helped people in how to get the app working. They said the app could firstly be downloaded from Playstore. Following that, people will be able to obtain a pass by entering their computerised national identity card (CNICs) numbers.

“The pass can be downloaded and people will be able to show or send it to relevant authorities. Foreigners, vaccinated in Pakistan, can download the pass by entering their passport and vaccination certificate numbers,” the official added.
Why Was This Important?
The digital certificate is the only official proof of Covid-19 vaccination and it has become mandatory for domestic and international travelling. The QR code that the app gives can be verified on spot and allow the people through.

The NCOC has officially announced earlier this week that complete Covid-19 vaccination certificates would become mandatory for air travel after September 10. This is to speed up the vaccination process. Following September 10th, partial vaccination certification will become invalid.
The interval between the first and second doses of all brands of vaccines has also been reduced from 42 days to 28 days now. This decision was also made in consultation with the Ministry of Health and medical experts. In other news, the NCOC has also confirmed that only vaccinated individuals would be allowed to travel by train from October 1.

Mathira has won the hearts of social media users as she shows her respect for Muharram. The actress and host have taken an extreme step to pay her respect to the religious time. Something to learn from her perhaps?
Mathira Removes All Social Media Pictures

Mathira’s account which boasted thousands of pictures of her is now left with only two. Her Instagram profile only has two pictures on it now. Both of them are posts relating to Muharram and the incident of Karbala. She has also changed her Instagram icon to that of a Hadith.

Why The Stark Change?
To explain this to her 747K followers on Instagram, she put up an explainer story. In the story, she shares with her fans that she has removed all her social media pictures out of respect for Muharram. She believed they could be disrespectful to the time and hence, to maintain its sanctity, she has cleared out her profile.

Mathira also mentions that she frequently goes to Majlees. As a result, she wants no such pictures for others to see and be deemed as hypocritical.
She keeps insisting that this is her way of approaching her religion. This is not an objective step that everyone must take. Moreover, she asks social media fans to not “blame her” which is perplexing. What could she be blamed for at the moment?

To Each Their Own
The 10 days of Muharram are special days in which all should show respect to the grave instances that mark it. Despite the sect division, these days are important to all Muslims. Thus, we all share the grief and importance that we attribute to these days. However, it is also true that there is no one way to connect with one’s religion or God.

If for Mathira this means cleansing her social media of “inappropriate” pictures, then that is her call. Judging others for how they choose to pay their respect to something is also problematic.
Mathira’s Social Media
Mathira’s social media has often stirred many controversies and scandals. Did you know she is half African? The model, dancer, host, and actress have taken social media many times to post pictures that surprise the users. She has also been often body-shamed by others in doing so however, confidence in your own self can take one a long way.
Mathira hasn’t specified for how long her pictures will remain off yet.
