How To Get Your Digital COVID-19 Vaccination Pass

Pakistan’s national structure is on the up and up when it comes to becoming digitalized. Now NCOC has created an app to help facilitate people with their vaccination certificates. Thanks to the app, the digital COVID-19 vaccination pass will be with you at all times.

NCOC’s Latest Development

The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) collaborated with the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) to launch an app. The app is called ‘Pak Covid-19 Vaccination Pass App’. The link will take you to the app store from where you can download it!

Read more: Here’s How You Can Get Your COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate

The app allows each user to easily download the Covid vaccination certificate from the Nadra website to their phones.

Why Has It Been Created?

The app making us all surprised has been developed for many reasons. Firstly, it is to facilitate people in carrying their digital Covid-19 vaccination certificate. Since the usual does not download on phone, many get it printed. Moreover, the Pak Covid-19 Vaccination Pass App will also help identify fake vaccination certificates.

How To Get Yours?

The NHS ministry officials also helped people in how to get the app working. They said the app could firstly be downloaded from Playstore. Following that, people will be able to obtain a pass by entering their computerised national identity card (CNICs) numbers.

“The pass can be downloaded and people will be able to show or send it to relevant authorities. Foreigners, vaccinated in Pakistan, can download the pass by entering their passport and vaccination certificate numbers,” the official added.

Why Was This Important?

The digital certificate is the only official proof of Covid-19 vaccination and it has become mandatory for domestic and international travelling. The QR code that the app gives can be verified on spot and allow the people through.

The NCOC has officially announced earlier this week that complete Covid-19 vaccination certificates would become mandatory for air travel after September 10. This is to speed up the vaccination process. Following September 10th, partial vaccination certification will become invalid.

The interval between the first and second doses of all brands of vaccines has also been reduced from 42 days to 28 days now. This decision was also made in consultation with the Ministry of Health and medical experts. In other news, the NCOC has also confirmed that only vaccinated individuals would be allowed to travel by train from October 1.

Mathira Removes Her Pictures From Instagram In Respect Of Muharram

Mathira has won the hearts of social media users as she shows her respect for Muharram. The actress and host have taken an extreme step to pay her respect to the religious time. Something to learn from her perhaps?

Mathira Removes All Social Media Pictures

Mathira’s account which boasted thousands of pictures of her is now left with only two. Her Instagram profile only has two pictures on it now. Both of them are posts relating to Muharram and the incident of Karbala. She has also changed her Instagram icon to that of a Hadith.

Why The Stark Change?

To explain this to her 747K followers on Instagram, she put up an explainer story. In the story, she shares with her fans that she has removed all her social media pictures out of respect for Muharram. She believed they could be disrespectful to the time and hence, to maintain its sanctity, she has cleared out her profile.

Mathira also mentions that she frequently goes to Majlees. As a result, she wants no such pictures for others to see and be deemed as hypocritical.

She keeps insisting that this is her way of approaching her religion. This is not an objective step that everyone must take. Moreover, she asks social media fans to not “blame her” which is perplexing. What could she be blamed for at the moment?

To Each Their Own

The 10 days of Muharram are special days in which all should show respect to the grave instances that mark it. Despite the sect division, these days are important to all Muslims. Thus, we all share the grief and importance that we attribute to these days. However, it is also true that there is no one way to connect with one’s religion or God.

If for Mathira this means cleansing her social media of “inappropriate” pictures, then that is her call. Judging others for how they choose to pay their respect to something is also problematic.

Mathira’s Social Media

Mathira’s social media has often stirred many controversies and scandals. Did you know she is half African? The model, dancer, host, and actress have taken social media many times to post pictures that surprise the users. She has also been often body-shamed by others in doing so however, confidence in your own self can take one a long way.

Mathira hasn’t specified for how long her pictures will remain off yet.

Journalist Imran & His Ties To Noor Mukadam’s Accused Killer

Noor's Murder noor mukadam zahir jaffer Imran Riaz Khan

[Update: August 16th, 2021]: Do you remember the journalist, Imran Riaz Khan, and the episode where he exploited religion to victim-blame Noor Mukadam? It seems that the reason behind such a mindless stance is becoming clear. A person was able to link evidence and conclude that journalist Imran Riaz is a friend of the lawyer Mian Ali Ashfaq; the latter is appointed by the primary accused’s father.

Read More: Noor Mukadam Case: Owners & Workers Of Rehab Center Arrested

Now, Zakir, Zahir’s father, may have claimed to have broken ties with the son, but there have been speculations that they were party to hiding murder evidence.

In a recent development, the accused’s hearing that was held today led to another extension of the judicial remand; the remand will end on August 30th.

[Update: August 12th, 2021]: It seems digging a deeper hole is a routine occurrence for problematic Pakistanis. Remember Faryal Mehmood defending her body-shaming scandal with more controversial and insensitive statements for Hareem Farooq? Turns out, Journalist Imran Riaz is following suit in Noor Mukadam and Zahir Jaffer case.

Journalist Imran faced quite a lot of backlash for his victim-blaming statements in the case of Noor Mukadam. He said that because she wasn’t following Islamic teachings, a case like this was bound to happen.

Read More: Acquaintance Of Zahir Jaffer Reveals Horrifying Details About Him

Journalist Imran Riaz follows up on his statement

After the uproar, he has, once again, taken to YouTube clarifying his stance. In the video, he says that ‘khooni liberals’ are carrying out propaganda against him and that he never held Noor, the victim, responsible for what happened to her.

Mr so-called journalist, can you really claim that you never said it even though you compared her number of calls with her father and with Zahir, and then went on saying that she was not following the Islamic way? Comparing the crime against humanity, the murder of Noor Mukadam, with a pandemic, COVID-19, he said that what he had meant was that the Islamic way and our family traditions keep the vulnerable members of the family protected. He further said that he was not justifying Zahir and that he should be punished but the root cause of the crime should be identified.

The root cause, Mr. Journalist, is not behayaai in universities, it is that the killer is the killer, case closed.

[August 10th, 2021]: Noor Mukadam died as a result of a gruesome murder. Zahir Jaffer, the primary accused, sits in jail for Noor’s murder awaiting trial. No punishment has yet been announced. This has given time to two sides emerging. There is one side that is rooting against Zahir and the other, in favor of him. Yes, there is a side rooting for Zahir, the side that thrives on victim-blaming; the side that emerges from toxic patriarchy.

It is this toxicity that you see Aurat March against. This toxicity that women protest again.

Journalist Imran Riaz Khan Victim Blames Noor

If you want to take a look at toxic patriarchy firsthand, just take a look at this video. In the video, you will see Journalist Imran Riaz Khan making vile comments about Noor, the murder victim in the ongoing high-profile case.

This video will show you how patriarchy became toxic. This video will also show you that in order to justify the legitimacy of patriarchy, men can become insensitive to the degree that they begin justifying gruesome murder. It shows that by extension what they mean is those women who do not accept patriarchs are punishable by death.

What do netizens say?

As expected, tons of people were supporting him. But thankfully, there were netizens who were angry at the journalist for victim-blaming someone who has died.

Contradiction in statements

Self-proclaimed advocates of religion have always used it as a tactic to negate the experiences of those not on their sides. It is funny, however, that these advocates themselves are not as religious as they pretend to be. A case in point, or rather two, would be the Muftis involved with Qandeel Baloch and in the child molestation charges.

Of course, we can not look over the fact that this could, very well, be a publicity stunt. It has been made clear, time and again, that in Pakistan, you do not need the claims of feminism to become popular but claims of being religious. So it could be that this ‘no name’ journalist who you did not even hear before is now craving for spotlight using Noor’s murder.

The question is, will Pakistanis make him the hero they made of Khalil Ur Rehman Qamar. Then again, the moment they supported Khalil Ur Rehman, a Zahir Jaffer was born. But let’s keep an eye on the masses’ sentiments, shall we?

Taliban Take Over Afghanistan While President Hides In Tajikistan

Afghanistan, Pakistan, taliban

The formation of the Taliban is no surprise. Almost everyone is aware of who created the group but now that they have spiraled out of control, no one knows what the group will do to the people who were part of their creation. In the most recent installment of Taliban diaries, we saw them taking over the capital of Afghanistan, Kabul. While the Taliban infiltrated the presidential palace, Ashraf Ghani was taking refuge in Tajikistan.

Taliban track record

It is still uncertain what take the Pakistani government will have on the Taliban taking over Kabul. But once again, Pakistan will witness an overflow of Afghani refugees.

A number of us, millennials, have lived through the time where our schools used to conduct bomb drills. Many experienced bomb threats, and sometimes, Taliban gunmen would also open fire in the vicinity of schools. Therefore, this must be bringing traumatic memories to mind. Hence, a huge chunk of the Pakistani population is scared for their life.

Read More: Pakistan Closes Embassy in Afghanistan, No Visas to be Issued

But for now, Twitter and media are trending with images of Taliban fighters occupying the place.

Afghani population tries to seek refuge

Seeing the situation go out of control, numerous Afghani civilians are out to save their lives. Since last night, many videos have emerged which show afghanis trying to get on planes while there is firing in the distance. It is only in Hollywood that we see such scenes but now, courtesy of the digital world, we are able to witness it live, as people load up on the cargo levels in hopes to escape the country.

It is not unexpected that people are trying to flee with their families because when a forceful takeover happens, men exercise their power in the most horrific of ways. They kill the men of the place and then rape or forcefully marry women. Sadly, an even greater degree of violence has already started happening. Instead of fully grown women, some of the Taliban are exercising this power on girls as young as 12-years-old.

Our hearts ache for the women experiencing violence; our hearts ache for the civilians trying to get to safety; but most importantly, our hearts question their government who had enough time to evacuate their president to Tajikistan but did not sound alarm bells for their civilians or tried to get them to safety.

Apple’s Privacy Protection Emphasis Is Being Reduced

Apple and less emphasis on privacy

Apple believes that human privacy is a basic right of everyone and it must not be invaded under any circumstances. People are allowed to be private with their belongings as much as they want to. Apple even refused to provide access to the iPhone of a dead terrorist, due to this privacy emphasis.

The company has clarified many times about them not being willing to reduce privacy. They even regarded this once by saying ‘What happens in your iPhone stays in your iPhone’. There was even a famous video released to users that showed people giving away their personal info to complete strangers. This includes credit card info as well as their personal details.

Apple And Privacy

Just a while back, the company introduced a new piece of technology. They released an end-to-side tool that will detect images and content related to ‘Child Sexual Abuse Content’. The tool will detect the media while the user is sending on receiving it. To make sure the tool accurately detects it, Apple has been provided images through National Center for missing and exploited children (NCMEC) and other child security organizations.

If a photo is explicit in nature, the photo will become blurry and a prompt will be made to ask if the child wants to continue browsing. If they do still intend to do so, the app will notify the parents immediately. CSAM is a very serious concern and it must be addressed as such. This is Apple’s attempt to make sure such illegal activity is limited as much as possible. The messages app will use on-device machine learning to warn about sensitive content.

A Backdoor Into The System

CSAM detection will also help provide a lot of important information to law enforcement. All of these updates are coming to Apple devices. However, the tool that is working end-to-side might be compromising the integrity of the end-to-end encryption that the devices currently hold. It bypasses the entire end-to-end system and can be considered as an obvious backdoor. Not only is this unpredictable, but it also poses serious security and safety risks.

We hope that the concern for privacy does not stay for long and Apple manages to work a solution for both things. CSAM is something that must be addressed and prevented, all the while also keeping end-to-end encryption steady. Let us see how the story evolves as the update is released.

Alizeh Shah Questions The Real Meaning Behind Azadi

Alizeh Shah Questions The Real Meaning Behind Azadi

Yesterday Pakistani’s celebrated their 73rd independence day. In light of the occasion, a Pakistani celebrity Alizeh Shah took to her social media to share the hesitation behind whom she should wish the independence day.

Alizeh Shah Questions

In a short video posted on Instagram, Alizeh says;

“Pakistan got its freedom on 14 August 1947, and as today is the 14th of august, I can’t seem to understand who should I wish Jashne-Azadi. To those rapists roaming freely outside because they are the one’s with freedom, and because of them, many girls cannot step outside of their houses or go to work. The inability to travel with your family on the highway. As well as the not getting the freedom to wear whatever they want not just to regular people but the celebrities as well.”

She adds,

“So, the power of social media which we use so blatantly, why don’t we try to make a difference this time? What we can do is be kind, do charity. Even if we want to say something bad, refrain from doing so. So many people are killed because of social media, so many people suffer through depression. So please make sure to use social media in a manner that doesn’t hurt anyone. I have been through it, and I know how difficult it can be. Everybody has a right to live, not just you. Think about it.”

What does It mean To Be free?

Alizeh mentioned some points to ponder and the meaning behind real Azadi. Azadi means the state of not being imprisoned or captivity. It also means the freedom or privilege to act, speak, or think as one wants. And even though we are grateful to be celebrating the former one. Will we ever get a chance to celebrate the latter?

As much as we think we are free, we are slaves to our circumstances—the victims to power and accountability—the victims of injustice. Even though we try to turn a blind eye to our surroundings, there is no hiding from the fact that women are being murdered around us. Children are being raped. People commit suicide because they are not free from bullying, trolling, and an ongoing chain of circumstances.

So, are we truly free?

It takes one to be kind and empathetic.

However, it takes one to be kind, empathetic, and let the other one know that you care. Even if a single person tried to care and be kind, we might not become the slave to something or the other.

Khadija Siddiqui Unharmed After Attack Outside Her House

Khadija Siddiqui, who was a victim of 23 stabbings in 2016, was part of a gun firing incident that took place just recently. Unidentified assailants opened fire on her car and then left immediately.

There is, however, a lot of investigation being done on this event and the assailants might not have too far to run now. In a difficult time like this, we hope she is able to withstand and push through.

Khadija Siddiqui And The Incident

She was inside the house at the time of the firing. While she was inside, she heard gunshots occurring just outside. After they were over, she came outside and saw that a bullet had hit the hood of her car. She stated that unidentified people had opened fire on her vehicle and that she was in danger. So, she contacted the authorities for a response.

She also stated that she had been attacked in 2016 by Shah Hussain. A member of Khadija Siddiqui’s legal team, Barrister Hassaan Niazi, has taken to ensure the case goes forward. He states that there was ‘Direct firing’ on her home when she was present inside. He also mentions that Khadija has been incredibly brave and strong throughout the incident.

Taking Notice

As per the response, Lahore DIG (Operations) has also taken notice of the event. He has even sent a team and promised them justice. Additionally, Punjab CM, Usman Buzdar, also took note of the incident and sought a report from the Lahore Capital city officer. People who were responsible should be brought under the arm of the law. Such incidents cannot be tolerated at any instance and the citizens must be kept safe. One cannot just open fire at someone else’s house and then expect to get away with it.

Earlier, it was found that they had released Khadija’s attacker, Shah Hussain, earlier than the sentence should have held. Instead of the original seven-year sentence, he has been released after three and a half years. We hope that the authorities are able to bring the assailants to justice so she may rest easy. However, we support her and praise her bravery throughout the incident, and hope she continues to persevere in such a time.

Should Children Learn Quran At A Young Age?

The SNC has made it compulsory for all schools to begin classes with first the teachings of the Quran. While this is an incredible initiative, it can also feel restrictive for those from another religion or sect. Don’t forget the white in Pakistan’s flag.

However, at home, parents should exercise their own thinking and ensure their children know of their roots. Be it in learning Urdu properly, Punjabi, or the Quran. If they grow old without knowing what anchors them, the world can be a scary place.

Though this wasn’t the law, women during the partition chose to dress this way after they came to Pakistan. This is so that other men would not be able to identify them/violate them.

7. Generational Struggle

This may be a surprising picture to see but that is how many refugees lived. These squatter settlements made for them were of the worst condition known to mankind. The picture shows three generations of women, all struggling for Pakistan.

In lieu of Independence Day, we decided to dig deeper into the national anthem. The national anthem is a song we hold close to our hearts, guarded by our patriotism. It is also more than just a song; it’s a philosophy that we live by. However, have you ever wondered how it came into being or what its history was? Let’s find out the lesser-known facts about the qaumi taranah.

1. Entirely in Persian

Did you know that the qaumi taranah is entirely written in Persian? Only the connective ‘ka’ is in Urdu. The reason behind that is to commemorate our history and tradition whilst also honouring the language that contributes to the making of Urdu.

2. Hafeez Jalandhari Wrote It

Hafeez Jalandhari, one of the most famous poets Pakistan has had the pleasure of calling its own, wrote the national anthem. He was given the pride of performance and also wrote the Hymn for Kashmir.

3. Competition Held For It

At the time the qaumi taranah had to be chosen, a competition was held. The competition was created to find the best song people could offer for Pakistan. The prize money was set at Rs.10,000. However, Hafeez Jalandhari’s creation overpowered the song selected via competition.

4. One of The Shortest National Anthems

The average time it takes to sing other national anthems has ranged from 1 and a half minutes to over 2 minutes. However, our national anthem is one of the most concise ones. It takes about 80 seconds to finish it.

5. 10s of Musical Instruments Support It

8 Everyday Miracle Ingredients That Boost Your Immunity

boost immunity

When the pandemic hit Pakistan, at the end of 2019, the first thing we did was look up ways of building our immunity – strengthening ourselves enough to fight the fatal coronavirus. Nothing much has changed since then. The virus is still a cause for concern and building immunity is still a top priority. With the summer heat in full force, it is important, especially after a long day of work, to strengthen our system with ingredients that are not just healthy and fulfilling but are also fuelling our immune system.

Dietitian Maxine Smith explains it aptly when she says, “A truly healthy immune system depends on a balanced healthy diet over time. It’s like training for a battle and preparing your body ahead of time so it can throw a good punch when attacked by viruses, bacteria and toxins. Other lifestyle practices such as regular exercise and good sleep will better prepare you for the battle.”

Here are some ingredients that we must incorporate in our daily diet to ensure our immune system is packing a good punch:

  1. Vitamin C

Vitamin C helps prevent infections and strengthens your body enough to fight the infection if it does make it its way there. While citrus fruits are a usual go-to, here are some foods that are packed with vitamin C:

  • Spinach
  • Kale
  • Bell peppers
  • Brussels sprouts
  • Strawberries
  • Papaya
  1. Vitamin E

Like vitamin C, vitamin E can be a powerful antioxidant that helps your body fight off viruses and bacteria. This important vitamin — part of nearly 200 biochemical reactions in your body — is crucial in regulating how your immune system functions. To get your vitamin E, think high-fat plant foods like:

  • Almonds
  • Peanuts/peanut butter
  • Sunflower seeds
  • Oils such as sunflower, safflower, and soybean oil
  • Hazelnuts
  1. Vitamin A

Vitamin A is an infection-fighter and comes in two forms: fish, meat and dairy or plant carotenoids.

  • Tuna
  • Carrots
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Pumpkin
  • Butternut squash
  • Cantaloupe
  • Dark green leafy vegetables
  1. Vitamin D

Known best as the “Sunshine Vitamin”, it is one of the most important and powerful nutrients – especially for the immune system.

  • Salmon
  • Mackerel
  • Tuna
  • Sardines
  • Vitamin D fortified like milk, orange juice and cereals

In general, it’s best to get most of your vitamins from food, but vitamin D may be the exception to that rule. Talk with your doctor to find out if you need a supplement.

Fun Fact: Dalda’s new Kalonji Canola Oil is fortified with the power of Vitamin, A, D & E, and Omega 3 & 6.  Additionally, Thymoquinone, the main bioactive component of the volatile oil of the black seed, has been used as an anticancer chemical, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antineoplastic in medicines for over 2000 years.

  1. Thymoquinone

Thymoquinone is the main bioactive compound present in the black seeds (kalonji) of the Nigella Sativa plant. It is nontoxic and has wide applications to cure many diseases including diabetes and cancer. It also reduces the adverse effects of asthma, inflammation, arthritis, gastro, and liver disorders. It is found in:

  • Kalonji seed oil
  • Dalda Kalonji Canola Oil (standardized on thymoquinone)
  1. Zinc

Zinc produces new immune system cells, which is why it is important. It is found primarily in meats but can also be found in some vegetables.

  • Oysters
  • Crab
  • Lean meats and poultry
  • Baked beans
  • Yogurt
  • Chickpeas
  1. Iron

Iron, which helps your body carry oxygen to blood cells, plays a part in many of the immune system processes. It comes in different forms:

  • Red meat (limit to smaller amounts and less often)
  • Chicken
  • Turkey
  • Canned sardines
  • Oysters
  • Clams
  • Mussels
  • Canned light tuna
  • Beans
  • Broccoli
  • Kale
  1. Folate/folic acid

Folate is the natural form and folic acid is the synthetic form, often added to foods because of its health benefits. To get more folate, add more beans and lentils to your plate on a regular basis, as well as leafy green vegetables. Avocado is another tasty source.

  • Enriched pasta
  • Enriched bread
  • Enriched rice

What happens when you try to come up with a fusion of Italian and desi? Definitely something weird. But can it get any weirder than the thing we are about to show you? We hope not! Today we are presenting you Pasta Dosa.

Gif Source: Gfycat

Dosa Pasta; A Fusion

Dosa originated in India and is made of a crispy crepe filled with vegetables and served with condiments. On the other hand, pasta is cheesy creamy and definitely not something you would try to pair up with any other dish. However, this street food snack cart combines both classics in a single serving, and this could be the best of both worlds or the entire opposite, and we can’t tell otherwise.

The dosa in this recipe is coated with a thick layer of sauces and vegetables. However, there is more to it. The sauce layer is then topped with pasta and heavy cream and mixed with the sauces’ base. However, to add the final touch, lots of shredded cheese is added on the top and rolled up to serve.

The vendor didn’t shy away from loading it with cheese, which could be the perfect treat for all the cheese lovers. Meanwhile, the netizens weren’t amused as they kept mentioning the recipe as absurd. Some couldn’t even begin to understand if this is pasta, dosa, or a pizza.

Take A Look At What They Had To Say

Nevertheless, some were amazed over the culinary and innovative skills of the vendor and mentioned the dosa as a product of innovation. At the same time, the majority didn’t even want to try it, although they like both the dosa and pasta separately.

Exactly our thoughts!

Whether you call it a dosa, a desi pizza, or a pasta dosa, the biggest question is, are you brave enough to try this?

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), the country’s national flag carrier had made news once again, some time back. The controversy was regarding the airline serving water during the flights. Considering PIA is always facing loss and its airfare is always on the rise, it was not unexpected.

What rumor?

The news piece was that PIA will stop serving water on their aircraft. Some publications interpreted it as to cut losses while others read it as a measure to counter the spread of COVID-19. Within a short time, the rumor went viral and several renowned publications covered it.

Soon, people started making fun of the airline. They created memes on not just the recent but even past track record of PIA.

PIA refutes rumor

The airline was quick to refute the claims. They said that they deny such baseless reports that misguide customers. PIA even labeled the publications as irresponsible and unprofessional because they had misinterpreted what they might have heard.

Right, when the iron is hot since the whole country is discussing the PIA and water crisis, PIA released a post announcing its partnership with Aquafina.

In the copy on the image, the brand says that Aquafina will act as the official hydration partner on all of the PIA flights. This phrase does not leave room for any misinterpretations anymore considering earlier the rumor was about domestic flights.

However, people, eternally upset with the performance of PIA, could not help but make fun of it or give their two cents about the matter. Some said that it is high time Pakistan launched its bottled water brand. While others failed to notice the ‘all flights’ phrase and commented that the airline was not serving water on domestic flights regardless.

Nazia was in remission after her oophorectomy, which is the surgical removal of ovaries. However, soon after she went back to her husband, she developed throat cancer which left the doctors puzzled, he added.
