Baig and Shigri’s engagement was not an overly opulent event. They gathered their friends and families under the stars for a night full of love. With fairy lights decor everywhere, it simply looked magical. Not only that but the couple was dressed to impress. Shahbaz Shigri donned a tux while Aima Baig supported a traditional saree.

While it was said that there is no animal waste out on the streets, many areas contradicted that. There is a famous road in Karachi by the name of Jehangir road. One of the reasons people know its name is because it’s always full of water. There are few instances when there isn’t sewerage water on the road. It makes commute quite difficult for many people.

Additionally, it is quite unsanitary and unhealthy. A lot of water-borne diseases could cause havoc in that region if the issue is not solved properly. According to a source, the road was full of water on Eid days too. Between that, a lot of animal waste was dumped on the sides of the road, eventually finding its way into the water. Not only has this increased the danger, but it has also put the residents of the area in a miserable state.

It must also be noted that this is not the only affected area of Karachi. Many other places have been left in a miserable state due to the animal waste not being picked up. The Nipa bridge is yet another place where animal waste is dumped every year.

These places must be taken notice of if they haven’t been cleaned already. We are not aware of the current situation of some of these places, but we are sure of many others. This is a serious matter and must be dealt with immediately. Islam also teaches that cleanliness is half of the faith so let us keep practising that.

The primary issue is Netflix’s slowed-down subscriber rate in 2021. It is currently weathering a downward trend after a mega boom in 2020, post lockdowns. You’ve heard of rent-a-car, but have you heard of rent-a-bro? It’s the latest service being offered in Karachi and it’s weirding people out. Unfortunately, it is a sign of our generation’s loneliness due to absorption into technology— we now need to rent friends!

This service has been started recently and is the first of its kind in Karachi. Their social media has merely 100ish followers which shows that either they haven’t tapped into the market or there is no… market. The rent-a-bro system is created by these anonymous people for a number of reasons.

Their posts suggest that if you’ve just had a breakup, feel lonely, or simply need a companion, rent a brother via their service. In short, they’re giving one friend but on rent. You pay for the ‘brother’.

Details of Service

They have also created a comprehensive list of service guidelines. Firstly, a brother can be rented by anyone. The ‘brothers’ they have are apparently ‘wise, intelligent’ and ‘balanced weight’ individuals. We’re not sure why weight matters here but let’s move on! 

Additionally, the age range of brothers is from 25-40 years old. According to them, the Brothers’ picture will not be shared before because that is only needed for matrimonial services. It appears they have made a proper system based on demand and supply however, we’re unsure of the demand. How many people do you know who would pay for a ‘brother’?

Today, we are seeing a major chunk of brands moving towards the electricity sector. Global warming is a real threat to the planet and its ecosystem. Many brands are becoming known for their commitment to electric cars. A lot of them are planning to shift the system from combustion to electric. This also requires a robust electrical ecosystem and you don’t want electric cars in an area where charging stations are still on the blueprint. Daimler, the Mercedes-Benz maker, is planning to invest a hefty amount towards electric technology.

Mercedes Going Toe-to-toe

Currently, Tesla is one of the biggest names in the electric car domain. It might be the biggest name there and the developments are endless. Each day, we see them come up with something better than before. Daimler is now investing about 40 billion Euros by 2030 in an effort to shift towards electricity. According to them, they want to go dominant in the electric car area by 2030. The carmaker is not saying that combustion engines are dying out. Rather, they said that they have to measure how long it takes for electric cars to dominate.

At Mercedes-Benz, there is going to be a major shift in employment too. The company has stated that there will be job cuts due to this. It is because, according to them, EV production requires fewer workers than combustion engines. According to Sabine Kohleisen, board member and head of HR,

“A transformation of our workforce will involve tough decisions. Yes, overall we must and will reduce our personal costs,”

The Race Continues

With this form of work being done, it is no surprise that Mercedes will be able to match up to Tesla. While the race does not consist of enemies, each brand would certainly want their vehicle to come first. The European Union has also emphasised the need for the electric car shift, as global warming worsens.

Daimler said that, soon, 50% of the sales would be from electric cars and hybrid ones. It will unveil three electric platforms,

  • Passenger Cars And SUVs
  • Vans
  • High-performance vehicles

The carmaker also said that they intend to install quite a lot of battery plants. Four of them are to be installed in Europe and one in the US. The EU intends to counter the battery production being done by China.

Ever since the news of Shahroz and Sadaf tieing a knot came across on social media last year, people felt a whole range of emotions (most of them not really good). Their marriage was the talk of the town, and netizens had to say a whole lot of things, including how much of a mistake he had made given that he has a lovely daughter. There is one sporting event that almost everyone looks forward to. Even if you don’t watch the football WorldCup, you definitely watch these. Yes, we are talking about the Olympics! This is a huge event that takes place once every four years. If you remember the last Olympic games, they were a sight to see! However, the 2020 Olympics did not happen due to the pandemic. So, the board decided to shift them to 2021.

The hosting country for them, this time, is Tokyo, Japan. To keep you in the spirit of the Olympics, Google has introduced a game to the audience. It can be played from the main Google page.

This game can be referred to as the ‘Champion Island Games’. Once you click on the Google logo, you are redirected towards the game itself. It starts off with the protagonist travelling to an island for the purpose of taking part in an event. This event consists of seven games as well as various side quests. The name of the protagonist, or us, is lucky the cat.

As you start off, you can run about and explore the island. There are numerous games to play and sidequests to perform. Whether you like to roam about or get straight to the point, the game keeps you engaged for quite a while. The seven mini-games that you can play are,

The Khadija Siddiqui case was also one such case that shocked the nation. Is male ego really that fragile and the passion for revenge that vile? Many years later, it appears, we stand at square one as the convict has been released from jail.

At the age of 21, in May 2016, Khadija Siddiqui was picking up her little sister from school when a man in a helmet got into a stabbing frenzy. She was stabbed on her neck, abdomen and arms a total of 23 times. Her little sister who tried to intervene was also hurt. The culprit was then identified to be Shah Hussain, her old friend who was angry over Khadija’s break-up with him.

After waiting for three years for justice, The High Court, initially, allowed the man to walk free on the streets. However, the case was reviewed and it was then that he was awarded the bare minimum punishment. 5 years in jail. There are people on death row in Pakistan whose crime is unknown, let that sink in!

Fresh Update on The Case

Unfortunately, Shah Hussain will not even be completing the full circle of this small punishment. He has been released from prison after serving 3.5 years. The news was touched upon by Jibran Nasir who raises pertinent questions for the Premier and the judiciary.

That woman walks with 23 scars on her body and the system could not give more than 5 years in prison to her attacker. There is a long list of femicide cases in which ‘justice’ has been pending.

This fresh update particularly feels even more bitter after the last few days. Noor Mukaddam’s brutal murder, Quratulain’s story and Saima’s demise have all been weights on our hearts. This day remains as a setback for all women have been fighting for. We wonder when one step forward for women will not equate to three steps backward by men in our country.

This Eid-ul-Adha will have a lot at stake. This coming week and the next one might be the time-frame in which we either control coronavirus for good in Pakistan or experience a second wave. If you’re anxious about how to spend this Eid safely, then use this as your guide.

1. Say No To Qurbani At Home

Even when a pandemic was something we had not experienced, many diseases were caused by animal markets. The insane amount of animals all kept under one roof, with thousands of people going in and out, can make for a breeding spot for a host of diseases. Animal markets need to be majorly avoided.

Yes, it is farz to do qurbani but not for the sake of your health. Many online platforms are offering contact-free services, opt for them!

2. Keep Gathering (if any) Outside

Intimate gatherings can not be put a stop to no matter how much one is advised. Just getting together with a couple of family members is alright if you know they have been careful as well. However, the best way to do that this Eid-ul-Adha is by keeping those gatherings outside. This sweltering heat is not too practical for this, but a few fans outside can make it bearable.

Keeping it outside will ensure everyone can be at a safe distance and that your house isn’t contaminated. 

3. Keep Charity Distribution Risk-free

Charity distribution constitutes a considerable part of eid-ul-Adha. If you’ve gone out on Eid days, you’ll remember seeing 10s of people lining up outside houses or people even opening their gates to distribute food. But, alas, this Eid, we can not afford the privilege of coming into such close contact when and if we distribute charity.

What you can do instead is pack the food in small packets and take them to underprivileged areas. From within your car, you can distribute the packets evenly. Moreover, you could always go on a drive and keep distributing as you see the deserving people.

4. Shop Online And Only Online

It can be tempting to go to stores to select your favorite outfits for Eid. It’s an undeniable fact that the stock in stores is just better and fresher. Even with brands in Pakistan offering fraudulent experiences with online shopping, you can feel wary. However, please, stay at home and shop online.

Look for trustworthy brands. Brands also understand nowadays that most people are shopping online, so the stock online is excellent too. You can try to find pictures of others wearing your desired outfit to see how it looks as well. Also, opt for brands that have a refund policy, so you’re not in trouble later. 

Keep in mind that a little caution right now can mean a happy, healthy future together.
