New research shows that a COVID-19 vaccine, developed by a unit of China’s Chongqing Zhifei Biological Products, can reduce the chance of virus replication. However, there is a slight reduction in the delta variant as opposed to the previous variant.

Delta variant of the coronavirus spreads its wings while it takes over to affect a large sum of the population.

The infection rate of the delta virus is much high as compared to the former variant. This has led scientists to question the efficacy of vaccines and treatments against the new variant.

The Results Of The Study

This study was done with serum samples from people vaccinated with Zhifei’s three-dose regimen. The results showed a 1.2-fold reduction in neutralizing effect compared with an older variant. However, the researchers mentioned that the data is limited and more research needs to be done to evaluate the results thoroughly. Moreover, the results from the phase three clinical trial are yet to be published.

Zhifei’s vaccine is approved for emergency use in china and Uzbekistan. The number of doses administered has now exceeded 100 million to date.

Kraft, a food and beverage company, has partnered with Van Leeuwen for a limited edition mac and cheese ice cream flavor. Safe to say it is a limited-edition flavor, but the fact that the ice cream was sold out is still confusing. The company launched the flavor on July 14, on account of National Mac and Cheese Day. The flavor comes in a formulation of natural ingredients with no artificial flavors.

A brush cleaning pad is an easy to use and cheap tool if you do not want your hands to get irritated from all the rubbing. The ditches and spikes help clean each brush’s fiber while removing all the build-up makeup inside the brushes.

5. Baby Shampoo

A straightforward way to clean up your makeup brushes is to dip them in a glass of baby shampoo for about 30 minutes. Rinse them with warm followed by cool water and pat dry. However, this can be used for only those relatively clean brushes and do not have much product buildup.

Islamabad, July 17, 2021: Pakistan today received 1,236,000 doses of COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca through COVAX.

COVAX, co-led by the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), Gavi (the Vaccines Alliance), and the World Health Organization, is a global initiative that works with governments and manufacturers to ensure COVID-19 vaccines are available worldwide to both higher-income and lower-income countries.

Sameh Elfangary, Country President for GCC and Pakistan, AstraZeneca, said: “I was delighted to see the arrival of further doses ofCOVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca to Pakistan. The pandemic has certainly slowed down a lot of things, which includes businesses. Places that were usually bustling with crowds before lay deserted. However, between all this, Toyota decided to release the new ‘Yaris’ in Pakistan. Initial impressions of the vehicle were not well received. Now, that one is about 1.5L, which is something that can give competition in the market.

Apart from the capacity, the transmission variants are 5-speed manual and 7-speed CVT. When the lockdown eased in Pakistan, people decided to visit the showrooms, and they began to test the car themselves. Yaris started to receive positive reviews after test drives. People loved the way the vehicle handled itself in situations. Additionally, it even gave competition to the Corolla XLI and GLI in a rural location.

There are many features in the Yaris that make it a formidable contender. The car has a push start and smart entry as well as an infotainment system. People feel like they have stepped into the next generation of automotive when they drive this car. It also has hill-start assist control and traction control.

Now, if we take a look at statistics, we might be taken aback. The Toyota Yaris has sold almost 30,000 units in the last year and above making it the highest selling sedan of FY20-21. A horrifying and gut-wrenching video of a young boy’s sexual assault is going viral on Twitter. It’s unbelievable, disgusting, and incredibly unfortunate. The boy still has gotten no justice.

A Teenager’s Assault

A teenager (17-18 years old) belonging to Kottli Sattiyan, Islamabad was sexually assaulted by some men. The video shows the boy being manhandled and disgustingly dealt with. The perpetrators are enjoying his misery and also filming it very proudly, ensuring that his face is being shown.

The video clearly shows how these men view themselves as above the law. They show no shame in their activity and in fact, treat the entire situation like a spectacle. The perpetrator also raises himself at one point to properly show the young boy’s condition and state.

The Twitter posts are made by a woman helping the teenager. The video has been posted by her. She notes that an FIR was launched against the men in the video on 11th July, however, no action has been taken until now.

What is even more unfortunate and saddening is that the teenager is an orphan. He himself went to the police station to stand up for himself. However, the police is not cooperating and simply being inefficient as his perpetrators roam loose.

What’s To Blame?

The fact that this teenager decided to seek help is also rare. Most young boys and girls, upon a sexual assault, are so afraid of their perpetrators or the society’s shunning, that they do not report. The fact that he has launched an FIR against them also puts him at the risk of death. His perpetrators can exact revenge on him too.

The commonality of such incidents in Pakistan that mostly go unheard can be a cause of inefficient police. Had the perpetrators in this case been caught immediately, a message would have been sent. Young boys are assaulted in large numbers in Pakistan with many documentaries exposing this harsh reality. Despite this, our focus remains on women’s clothing and their activities. 2020 – A Rollercoaster Year

Now, you must be wondering where the production facility is going to be located. As with its current head factory, it is going to be operational from Port Qasim. There are many auto brands operating in that area and now one of them is making smartphones too. It is set to go into full-fledged operation by December 2021. A report stated that the facility will generate annual revenue between $300 million to $600 million. This means more potential for such industries in Pakistan.

We hope that LMC is able to completely go through with this plane. It is always interesting to see parts of one domain enter into another. There is no harm in trying something new and we have quite a lot of area for work here. Where Samsung is starting local production, other brands are sure to follow. Before we know it, Pakistan has its own tech device production base!

Social media platforms are some of the busiest platforms today. However, it seems that YouTube has introduced a new feature ‘YouTube Shorts’ to its users. This feature allows one to make short, quick videos as long as a minute.

In India, the feature was released in 2020 and by now, you must know which platform follows this feature. Yes, we are talking about the much-known TikTok. TikTok has risen as a platform that gives birth to a lot of talent. It is a platform where people can go to harness their potential or simply rant. However, there are some considerable differences between YouTube Shorts and TikTok.

YouTube Shorts Released

TikTok has over two billion downloads to date. This makes it one of the biggest social media platforms out there. We even heard the news of video resumes becoming a norm through TikTok. With such brilliance and innovation, it can be hard to think any other platform could surpass. However, YouTube Shorts is still in quite an initial phase whereas, TikTok allows users to add reality filters, YouTube doesn’t do that.

So, if you are looking to spice up the video and add aesthetics, TikTok is still the way to go. There are many similarities between the two platforms too. The time duration for videos is similar, with YouTube also making its shorts with 15 seconds.

TikTok Running Ahead

There is another thing that puts TikTok ahead of YouTube in terms of short videos. While YouTube allows the upload of shorts now, there is no concept of instant messaging. On TikTok, one can upload, share and watch videos with friends. All of this is done while chatting with them too. However, YouTube Shorts don’t have the ability to do that. The infrastructure of the platform is not made to communicate as quickly.

This is something that could give TikTok the upper hand. It can be difficult to be popular among applications if communication between users is less. Additionally, YouTube Shorts is currently built into the application experience. It doesn’t have a dedicated application. Thus, not everyone will be viewing or using shorts because they want to watch regular videos.

Yet To Rise Higher

This shows that there is still some time before the platform catches up to TikTok. For now, the latter remains the undisputed champion.

Unilever Pakistan’s ‘Face The Plastic’ Initiative Is Absolutely Brilliant

The awareness of the impact and environmental hazards of plastic is one that is crucial for us to understand as a nation. While we cannot completely become plastic-free, it’s still important to #FaceThePlastic and starts rethinking its impact.

Unilever Pakistan, one of Pakistan’s biggest FMCG’s has set itself the target to collect, recycle and repurpose more plastic than it produces by 2030. As part of this continuing effort, Unilever Pakistan collaborated with the Parks & Horticulture Department, KMC to set up public space at Frere Gardens to create awareness about plastic recycling in Pakistan. Unilever Pakistan has donated 18 benches and a play area made of 2,500 kilos of recycled plastic to the Frere Hall Gardens, in order to not only provide the public with environment-friendly parks and outlets but to also create a public dialog about plastic awareness. This space was officially inaugurated on Thursday, 15^th July 2021.

Unilever Pakistan is also investing in models that help in creating a circular economy and drive economic empowerment and livelihood opportunities for people as part of the #UnileverForPakistan initiative. The company recently announced projects for a plastic waste-free model city in Rahim Yar Khan, as well as brand-led initiatives on sustainable plastic reuse. These collaborations are part of Unilever Pakistan’s larger vision on environment action and the global Plastics commitments to cut down its use of virgin plastic, use reusable and recyclable plastic packaging and especially, collect and process more plastic than it produces.

Mr. Amir Paracha, Chairman and CEO, Unilever Pakistan highlighted, “Unilever Pakistan is fully committed towards reducing the impact of plastic waste and building a circular economy through bold, consistent and rigorous action. We aim to collect more plastic than we produce and make our packaging material sustainable. This public space is a humble attempt at starting public dialog amongst our citizens about the need for recycling plastic in Pakistan.”

Mr. Taha Saleem, Director General, Parks & Horticulture Department, KMC, said, “the step taken by Unilever Pakistan will help recycle plastic in the city.” He thanked the Unilever team for making it happen in Karachi.

Kranzmann said that the partnership was meant to target the broadest number of households. Oreo identified Ford, Hanes, Green Giant and Better Homes & Gardens as category leaders that were used most by the target group. By creating a collection of camouflaged packs the cookies can be camouflaged and the children will be none the wiser.

Oreo made 3,000 of the packages and they are being given on a first-come, first-served basis. Moreover, contests are also being announced. Parents are asked to post about their Oreo Thins hiding spots on social media using the hashtag #THINSProtectionProgram. This can help them enter a contest to win $25,000.

Once again, naegleria infection cases are on the rise in Pakistan. This year, five people have died from this lethal infection. Naegleria infection is caused by a brain-eating amoeba which is commonly found in warm, freshwater lakes, rivers, swimming pools, and hot springs.

How To Detect The Infection

Since Naegleria Fowleri affects the brain, it causes primary amoebic meningoencephalitis.

The signs and symptoms associated, generally begin within 2 to 15 days of exposure and include;

Fever
Sudden, severe headache
Nausea and vomiting
Nasal congestion or discharge
Changes in smell or taste

However, as the disease progresses, the following symptoms can further aid in diagnosing the condition.

Stiff neck
Sensitivity to light
Confusion
Loss of balance
Sleepiness
Seizures
Hallucinations

How To Protect Yourself From The Naegleria Fowleri

Here are some ways which can protect you from this disease.

1. Clean Your Tanks and Water Reservoirs

Make sure to clean your water tanks at least once a year. Adding two tablespoons of bleaching powder will kill all the bacteria, further enhancing the protection against the disease.

2. Keep The Water Covered

Keep the water reservoirs and tanks covered in your house. This will minimize the number of bacteria and will keep the water clean and fresh for use.

3. Avoid Water Activities

Water sports and activities are the highlights of summer. However, it comes at the expense of being exposed to the deadly pathogen. Avoid water-related activities during periods of high water temperature and low water levels.

4. Do not Jump In Fresh Water

Freshwater lakes and rivers are the dwelling places for Naegleria Fowleri. Try to minimize exposure to natural water bodies.

5. Clip Your Nose

Since the nose is the gateway to this bacteria, which can help it pass to the brain, using a nose clip during such activities will minimize the exposure to this disease.

Yesterday, Shafqat Mahmood shared the incident of action taken against a board official who was caught helping his son cheat. While some appreciated him, others mentioned various other problematic instances of Pakistan’s education system. Amongst these instances, were videos of students openly copying during exams. But the most controversial video shared would probably be the one where a teacher was spotted taking bribes.

In the video taken with a hidden camera, you can see three men sitting at a table receiving practical registers from students. Seeing as the educational system in government schools is not as strict as it should be, it is expected for students to not have done their work. So, the students who have not maintained their practical registers obviously would end up failing. But the video shows those students approaching the men and submitting bribes, which the men are readily accepting.

Consequences of taking bribes in education

Are we not going to talk about what the consequences of such an act will be? Already, a large population in Pakistan is illiterate and the ones that are literate, most of them stopped going to school after a certain grade. Now, just imagine that they sought education until tenth grade. Hence, we will be attributing them as tenth-grade graduates. But in reality, they barely went to school and they passed because they submitted bribes in exchange for a passing grade. Is that what we want to promote; an illiterate next generation?

Are we really ready to hand over the reins of the country to the youth who has been trained like this; not preparing practical registers and bribing officials? Are we not going to set better examples for the youth?
