The Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) company Unilever Pakistan has decided to limit the carbon footprint by reducing plastic waste. This is a significant development by the company as their reach is across the whole country.

Unilever Pakistan has taken the step to reduce the weightage of plastic in their product containers. The product they are targetting is Lifebuoy’s 375-milliliter shampoo bottle. Not only has the bottle weight reduced, but this also means that when the bottles are discarded and sent to the dumps, the non-decomposable plastic waste will be lesser in quantity.
That said, the bottles are made of plastic, even if it’s less, so it is still dangerous for the universe as plastic takes hundreds of years to break down. But back in 2019, the brand pledged to decrease the use of virgin plastic by half by 2025. Moreover, they would also be removing 100,000 tonnes of plastic from the rolling completely. So this move with the Lifebuoy bottles seems like a step in the right direction.
Unilever Pakistan on Plastic
Their statement, as found on the website, is:
“Our plans to cut plastic waste are underpinned by a clear framework: we’ll use less plastic, better plastic, and no plastic at all.”
It is a big promise, and their recent track record seems like they are planning to keep it, so they should be appreciated for it.
Other than reducing the plastic in the bottle formula, Unilever is also working on recycling plastic to ensure lesser plastic waste is introduced into the ecosystem.

Not only will it lead to jobs but also bring in foreign exchange into the country.
SAPM Climate Change
Malik Amin Aslam, the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Climate Change, announced the tree honey project on Tuesday. He said that this project will tap into the potential of exporting honey alongside generating millions of green jobs. To attract foreign exchange, they will need to put in the effort for proper branding, sampling, and standardized packaging for the international market.

SAPM addressed the inaugural session of the one-day workshop and the launch of ASPIRE; National Apiculture Programme or Apiculture Scaling up Programme for Income and Rural Employment. ASPIRE was the most extensive honey beekeeping promotion program in the country.
Amin said the apiculture experts will constantly be guiding to develop the national streamlined program before it rolls out to the provinces.
Launched at the end of January 2021, the program will hopefully yield positive results by June, the special assistant to Prime Minister said. Keeping the results in mind, Pakistan will launch the Ten Billion Tree Honey project.
Details of the Ten Billion Tree Honey
As for the finances, Malik Amin said that the National Bank of Pakistan would provide PKR 9 billion to masses interested in the Apiculture program.
“The Ministry of Climate Change has linked TBH and trees raised under 10 BTT plantation to the state-of-the-art technology developed by the Ministry of Science and Technology. whereas National Vocational and Technical Training Commission will train the interested youth on latest techniques of honey bee farming.”
He also touched upon the fact that in the US, honeybees are raised for the role they play in habitat conservation and not for yielding honey. They play a significant part in boosting crop productivity. So, through honey farming, Pakistan also plans on habitat conservation but raising dividends from it as well.

Looking at the prospects of this program, it has been told that Saudi Arabia has also become interested in the project. Saudi Arabia, they said, has already approached the ministry to buy it. This is good news for it will surely help in marketing the honey.

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) is an institution that strives to make higher education accessible to the Pakistani youth. From time to time, you would find scholarships (local and foreign) throughout the year that you could apply for.
Foreign Scholarships
These foreign scholarships are from the UK, USA, China, Azerbaijan, European countries, and other countries. So you can pick and choose according to the country you want to go to and the programs that the scholarships present. For instance, if you are into medical sciences, one scholarship might be better than the rest.
Most scholarships had their deadlines in December and mid-January. Commonwealth scholarship, for instance, had its deadline at the end of 2021. Meanwhile, the scholarship for Hungary was due on 15th January 2021.

What to Bring
To appear for the test, you need to get your test slip that has been generated for all the applicants.

A few hours ago, a video went viral on Facebook, Youtube and other social platforms in which a boy of approximately five years old can be seen driving a Land Cruiser in the middle of the street of a metropolitan city.
The commenters and posters claim that the video is of Multan, Punjab and the kid driving the Land Cruiser is five years old.
Even though many people took this video on a lighter note and took it as a joke, certain people pointed out the threat it posed not only for the kid but those around him.
Who Was The Kid And Whose Car Was He Driving?
The netizens are normally investigative of such incidents and uncover the parties involved in cases like this, however, we are yet to find out who the kid in the video is and whether he was driving the car with his parents knowing of this.
The video is extremely shaky and it seems that the person recording it was riding a motorbike himself. It seems the kid is standing so that his feet could reach the pedals which enabled him to accelerate and brake the SUV.
Certain news outlets report that the street where the SUV was recorded being driven by the kid was Bosan Road, Multan which is one of the crowded roads of Multan. This comes as a shock as normally such important roads have traffic police on-duty.
It is not uncommon to see dangerous stunts being performed in the streets of Pakistan however it is bizarre how a kid under the age of ten was given the liberty to drive an SUV on busy roads of Multan.

PTA planning to introduce 5G
PTA (Pakistan Telecommunication Authority) plans to make the 5G network available commercially for Pakistani telecom companies. The expected timeline is 2022 to 2033. And you may ask, how fast can it make the surfing and download speed? Well, it will go up to 1gbps. Right now, the government is focusing on developing a roadmap for the technology. In PTA’s annual report last year, the government aims to ‘auction spectrum for 5G services in the fiscal year 2023.’
Considering it took ages for the country to make even 4G available on all networks and that it is a country where even cities face network issues, already working towards 5G is a significant step. And it can be said that this move is a direct result of what the government saw in 2020, post-COVID. Companies and governments saw how offline business slugged away in the pandemic infested world while digital presence and e-commerce boomed. So an up to date digital infrastructure was the need of the time.

5G Already in Pakistan?

Huawei has been facing a lot of problems since it was sanctioned internationally. As per reports, the smartphone conglomerate has been in talks to sell their flagship smartphone brands. As per Reuters, two people who are directly engaged in the negotiations have confirmed that talks are underway between Huawei and Shanghai-based investment firms to sell Huawei P and Mate Series.
Is Huawei Ending Its Operations In The Smartphone Industry?
The company once became the biggest smartphone manufacturer until it sold its Honor Series, which had an excellent reputation in the smartphone industry; the Chinese smartphone company had been facing numerous issues ever since its scandal, which revealed that the company lied to American Banks about a telecommunication firm that had also been working with Iran which violated the sanctions imposed by the United States on the country for pursuing nuclear arms.

The scandal had rocked the smartphone industry and brought Huawei to its knees as the company had a huge market share in the Western market. The company made between Q3 2019 and Q3 of 2020 $39.7 billion from the Honor Series. In Q3 of 2020 alone, the total sales comprised nearly 40% of Huawei’s total sales, which shows the smartphone range’s significance.

Pakistani women shine at the 2nd edition of the Pakistan International Snowboarding Championship held at the Malam Jabba Ski Resort in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from January 18-24, 2021.
The second edition featured the women’s event for the first time, the last edition held in 2020, featured only men where international athletes from Holland and Afghanistan participated.
This time, nine European and 13 Afghan athletes participated in the championship along with 50 local winter sports athletes, informed the Air Commodore (Retd.) Shahid Nadeem, the Convener, Adventure Group National Tourism Coordination Board and a former Winter Sports Federation (WSF), secretary.
The championship included two races, Giant Slalom and Parallel Giant Slalom for both men and women. In the Giant Slalom race, an athlete has to start alone to board down in the slope in the shortest time. The one with minimum time will win. In the Parallel Giant Slalom, two athletes begin together, and the one who crosses the finishing line first wins.

Pakistani Athlete Fatima Nadeem won the Giant Slalom in the women’s category covering the 800m slope in 1:47.00 minutes in the first run and 1:55.52 minutes in the second run making an aggregate of 3:42.52 minutes to top the chart. Following here was her sister Sara Nadeem with an aggregate time of 4:07.00 minutes.
In the Men’s category of the same race, Victor Roger of Switzerland claimed the top spot with the aggregate time of 1:36.60 minutes followed by French Julien Herry who finished at 1:38.19. The nearest Pakistani athlete was Wakeel Ahmed at the sixth spot with a time of 2:03.41 minutes.
In the Parallel Giant Slalom, Pakistani players took the show in both men and women race. In the men’s category, Pakistani Razaullah won gold, Ahmed Soroush from Afghanistan won silver and Wakeel Ahmed from Pakistan won a bronze medal.
In the women’s category, all three positions were clinched by Pakistani Athlete with Sara Nadeem winning gold, Fatima Nadeem Silver, and Ayesha Akmal won a bronze medal.
The gold medalist, Islamabad-based snowboarder Sara shared that she began snowboarding two years ago at the ski slope in Naltar. “My friends and I began snowboarding in 2018 and since then, have won two silver medals in national championships and now won gold,” she said.
“This was an excellent experience, snowboarding with the international athletes took the level of competition high, and I am glad that this year it included women competition too.”
The French winter sports athlete, Herry, famously known as ‘Pica’, said that he got to know about the championship on social media they quickly decided to become part of it as it was being held in Malam Jabba.
“The slope of Malam Jabba is not long as others in the world, but the facility of the chairlift and the beautiful mountains make this one of the most wanted places to visit,” he said. “Pakistan has one of the biggest and most beautiful mountains in the world; that’s why whenever we visit, we love the environment.”

Soon after the virus emerged, many people opted for masking. The governments made it mandatory for people to wear masks, wash or sanitize their hands and maintain social distancing. The health professionals recommended wearing masks as the infected person could potentially release their particles into the air. Many people recommended wearing two masks as an added precaution, and this method has been becoming increasingly famous as the pandemic has become a part of our everyday life.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, who is a well-reputed American scientist and immunologist who was the front-face of the government of the United States in their fight against the pandemic, also favored the method of double masking and endorsed it by referring to it as “common sense” since two layers are better than one.
How To Double-Mask Yourself To Save Yourself From Getting Infected:
To wear a double-mask, you have first to wear the first mask in a way that it covers your nostrils and your mouth.
After that, you’d have to put on a second mask over the mask you were initially wearing and ensure that it is placed in a way that your nostrils and mouth are double-covered properly.
Does This Double-Masking Prevent You From Getting Infected: Numerous scientists and health professionals have recommended doing double-masking; however, it is not 100% guaranteed to protect you, and just because you wear a double-mask, it does not mean that you are forever protected from the virus.
As per the CEO of BioNTech, the coronavirus is not going away anywhere for the next decade. Therefore it is recommended to maintain the SOPs to minimize the impact of the virus.
Even though the vaccines have been made and approved by the authorities and various governments allowing them to be injected, there are certain facts you might want to know about them.
Double-masking is a well-added precaution to prevent yourself and your loved ones from getting infected with the coronavirus. However, it is not a permanent solution and doesn’t guarantee that you’d not get infected.

Cafe Soul’s Cannoli became the center of a scandal a few days ago. It started with the owners of Cannoli making a video that insulted their manager’s English language skills. The video made rounds on the internet, but not for the reasons intended. They must have meant to show how their cafe provides top-notch service. But they equated top-notch to spoken English. And that was caught by the audience all over Pakistan.

The best part about this was the realization of Pakistanis that judging someone for spoken English comes from our colonial past. More importantly, they could read between the lines when a supposed apology by the cafe surfaced.
Anyway, once the backlash continued so much that people even held an Urdu mushaira outside Cannoli out of spite, they decided to change their approach.
They put up on their social media pages how they respect Urdu so much that they have converted their cafe’s name to Urdu script.
What’s sad, though, is that they are changing tactics but not doing what they should have done long ago; sincerely apologized. Moreover, changing the script to another language does not show respect, if only it shows more disrespect. I mean, tell me, if the word has origins based in Italy, how is writing it in Urdu, appreciates the language.

With almost three thousand comments and shares, people saw through this weak attempt at salvaging the reputation. They tried telling the cafe owners that it was not the language they were called out for, rather the lack of manners.

Hilariously, some comments tried shifting their attention to if they were planning to convert their introduction to Urdu, they should have done it right; reference to the words ‘established,’ ‘soul,’ and ‘by’ as well.

Stupid or not, if the brand suffers a loss, we should know that the employees will also suffer. This could be in the shape of employee layoffs or salary cuts. Madina Has A History:
As we all know, this city is considered as one of the holiest cities of the world. It certainly holds a rich history and is wrought with tales of Islamic history. It is the city where the Holy Prophet (PBUH) migrated to after the persecutions of Muslims in Makkah got too much. Apart from this, there are wars that have been fought on the outskirts of Madnina.
Madina is also home to one of the most beautiful Masjids of all time. It is known as Masjid e Nabwi. When one travels to Saudi Arabia, visiting Madina is at the top of their agenda, right after Makkah. The city has a population of over 2 million and has been the subject of a pandemic, like every other city. However, they have managed to remain healthy all this time!
One Of World’s Healthiest:
In a recent survey, professionals from WHO visited the city. After much consideration, they came to a result. Madina is being considered as the first city with a population over 2 million, to be seen under this program. After the survey, the WHO team also stated that the city sits well within Global standards. Additionally, they are progressing forward quite well, in terms of citizen betterment.
According to sources and records, a total of 22 government, community, charity and volunteer agencies have helped prepare this accredition. Yes, the city has recieved an award and a praise of sorts. It is one healthy city and worthy of a mention among other healthy ones.

After everything, especially the pandemic, we must remember to take care of ourselves. It is not just the responsibility of the citizen, but the government, to make sure the environment stays healthy. It come down to us how we can take care of our city, in terms of pollution as well as a safe environment.

China has always been forward in fast advancements. They have made bounds in their industry with such a pace, it has left many behind in the dust. Everywhere we turn to today, we see a Chinese alternate to any given product. What is interesting is that China tends to make products that are feasible to people of all incomes.
Due to their wide range and variety, they are one of the leading sellers in Pakistan. Today, we come to know that more and more Chinese vehicle markets are entering Pakistan. BAIC is a brand that went silent when the world got hit by a pandemic. Now, Changan is yet another brand that has been launched here. Due to their entry, something had happened.
Entering The Pakistani Market:
Changan recently released a vehicle by the name of Alsvin. It got so popular, due to its specs and price, that it was sold fast. It was in high demand and was booked at lightning speed. This, in turn, raised a lot of eyebrows overseas. They thought that if a vehicle is so popular here, why not move more of them in the country?
Additionally, right-hand drive vehicles are the most used in Pakistan. The Chinese automotive industry sees this as an opportunity to enter the country. They can have a gateway towards the South Asian region due to this very reason. So, apart from India, they are now turning their gaze towards Pakistan too.

Both of these news come in the form of a blessing for us. 2021 is turning out to be a good year for Automotives. Pakistan is making its way on the industrial map faster than anything. Even new smartphone and tech pieces are on their way here. What now then? How are we expecting the dynamics to shift?
We know one thing for sure, though. It’s that we are now going to be nearing the spotlight for a lot of industries. Additionally, anyone in business with China to this scale is sure to come in the headlines. That said, we hope more and more car brands enter Pakistan, with both affordable and robust vehicles.
There are many scholarship opportunities for students, especially from developing or underdeveloped countries. Amongst many institutions and countries, just United States offers a number of them to Pakistani students.

But here is the thing, with the opportunities being for anyone, most men avail themselves most of them. This is not to say that men take away women’s share because there is a whole cultural context behind it. In this patriarchal society, men are told to be the ones seeking education to become the bread earners. At the same time, women have to excel at home. Such thought processes lead to a lesser ratio of women applying for scholarships and even lesser getting selected.
Sister2Sister Exchange Program
So how cool is it if the scholarship program is primarily for females? The United States has announced just that. They have launched a program called Sister2Sister Exchange Program. It is fully funded for career-oriented Pakistani women who want to make it big in their careers. The program will provide them with a chance to be enrolled in the summer undergraduate programs at US universities. Alongside that, they will also be connected to the mentorship network. The network will be aiming to connect the candidates wisely to ensure better educational and career advancements.
The Sister2Sister Exchange Program plans to prepare young Pakistani women for future career opportunities in Pakistan or abroad by enabling their participation in U.S. universities’ summer undergraduate programs. Moreover, the program will work towards developing mentorship programs and connecting young Pakistani women to academic and professional networks for educational and career advancement.

A chance for women to excel
For females to get a chance to enroll in the most prestigious universities of the US, the US Department of State will be finding the program. This initiative of SIE (Society for International Education) has assigned this program to be managed by a consortium of partners.
Let’s discuss a bit of detail about this scholarship. It ranges between 12 to 50 days and will cover most of the expenses a student may incur. So, for instance, from tuition fees to return tickets and accommodation, visa, insurance, and even food. The eligible candidates are those enrolled in Bachelors or Masters programs and should have 70% marks at least in the past three academic years. That said, they cannot be below 18 or above 24. The last application date is 31st January 2021, so if you are applying, do it right away.
Some ineligibility conditions are: being in the last year of the degree program, those who have been in an exchange program before in the United States, and those who possess dual nationality.

Sanam Saeed, the actress, known for her role as Kashaf in Zindagi Gulzaar Hai, has bagged many projects following her success. She made a movie Cake that was praised by whoever watched it. Her co-star in the show was Amina Sheikh. Saeed also acted in the film Bachana where she came on-screen with Mohib Mirza.

Mohib Mirza and Amina Sheikh were married and had a kid together. However, the couple parted ways in 2018. It was also brought to light that Sanam Saeed had her husband also parted ways the same year.

If anything, Pakistanis are good at speculating. And so you will find comments on both Sanam and Mohib’s pictures where people assume they have seen a spark. Or maybe they heard something.
