Just some months ago, it was reported that someone ordered a Lamborghini in Islamabad.

It is different news what it cost the individual to ship one but the underlying point is the same. Pakistan is slowly catching up in the automation race. So, in light of recent brands, a brand by the name of United has taken form in the country too. Now, it’s about to release their most affordable Hatchback to Pakistan!

The United Brand is relatively new to Pakistan, but that doesn’t mean it comes with bad tidings. There have been numerous whispers and talks about how this brand is set to release some impressive vehicles. The United Bravo has some of the best specifications one can have in that price bracket. It offers premium features and gives solid competition to Suzuki Mehran.

So, what is this new Hatchback that everyone is talking about? Yes, United Alpha (Military Alphabets) is set to launch yet another affordable Hatchback in Pakistan. What features will it have? Can it live up to people’s expectations? Let us dive into the details of the vehicle itself.

A Hatchback Made Affordable:

This vehicle is to be known as Alpha. Previously, it was known by the name of Cherry QQ. It seems that this will be the first car launch of 2021. The car comes equipped with a 993cc 4-Cylinder engine and Euro 4 transmission technology! United Motors has about 35 dealerships in major cities of Pakistan. They can expect an inflow of customers.

The car will accommodate a 5 Speed Manual Transmission with power steering and power windows. Not just this, the company intends to launch an automatic variant of the vehicle sometime in the near future! Its competitors are expected to be KIA Picanto, Suzuki Wagon R. The vehicle will launch on 2nd January 2021.

TikTok Soon To Launch An App On Samsung Smart TVs

8 Pakistani Women In 100 Outstanding Nurses & Midwives Global List

When Pakistani people, especially Pakistani women, get acknowledged globally, it makes us all happy regardless of which province they belonged to or what religion they followed. And this year has undoubtedly been a difficult one for everybody. Considering our fight was with a pandemic, our front line warriors were the healthcare staff. So it’s only right that they should be paid tribute. So Women in Global Health decided to acknowledge them.

WGH releases the list of 100 Outstanding Nurses & Midwives

Women in Global Health partnered with the World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations Population Fund, Nursing Now, International Council of Nurses, and International Confederation of Midwives to produce the list.

WGH assembled the list of ‘100 OUTSTANDING WOMEN NURSE AND MIDWIFE LEADERS’. They said, “Let us use the stories of their everyday heroism and service to call for all countries to invest in decent work and a new social contract for nurses and midwives as part of their commitment to health for all.”

Pakistani women in the global list

Nurses and midwives from 43 countries are included in that list. Out of those 100, 8 of the women are from Pakistan. They belong to Aga Khan University’s School of Nursing and Midwifery, Pakistan, SONAM. Five are faculty members; meanwhile, 3 are alumni members.

Dr. Rozina Karmaliani – School’s Dean – for the category Board and Management.
Yasmin Parpio – A faculty member – the Community Hero category

Croatia Earthquake: Hopefully The Last Disaster Of 2020

2020 has struck again and we’re wondering how many blows this year can deliver even on its way out.

Croatia Rattled 

Croatia was struck with an earthquake of a magnitude of 6.4. At least seven people have been killed so far with almost 20 injured. Due to the magnitude, it can be expected that several buildings collapse which is where these deaths occurred.

The earthquake yesterday cut phone lines and sent Croatians into a state of shock. It was felt throughout the country, neighbouring Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and as far away as the Austrian capital, Vienna. This terrifying earthquake was the second quake in the area in as many days.

Petrinja In Ruins

“The centre of Petrinja as it used to be no longer exists,” said Croatia’s state HRT television reporter. It is being reported that people remained inside the collapsed building which is making it more difficult to decipher how many lives were lost. 

Efforts In Place

Army officers, firefighters, nurses, civilians, people have come together to rescue and look through the rubble. It is also being reported that amongst the buildings affected were a nursing home which houses senior citizens. Efforts are being put in place to look through the nursing home’s rubble first.

The Croatian Mountain Rescue Service is also involved in search and rescue operations. Moreover, so far six people in Petrinja have been rescued, which is home to about 20,000 people.

Additionally, “during the night, teams of CMRS members will inspect the terrain and visit the villages between Petrinja and Sisak to see what the situation is like,” the deputy head of the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service, Neven Putar told Hina news agency.

Walking On Egg Shells

It seems as if Croatia walks on eggshells currently. As aforementioned, this was the second quake in the last few days. Possible, Croatia is experiencing fault line activity though, it can not be said how many more quakes should be waited for. Seismologists always warn about aftershocks too.

PMC Announces Alternatives For Post Graduate Programs

Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) was recently in the news as the students protested against the introduction of the Associate Degree Program. It is in the news once again through their policy for Post Graduate Programs. The policy is that they will recognize alternatives to Post Graduate Programs.

Unrecognized Programs and PMC

The idea, as they explained in a notification, is that several colleges have started programs that go unrecognized. These programs include but are not limited to ‘Clinical Alternative to Post Graduate Programs’ and ‘Clinical Additional to Post-Graduate Programs’. Neither PMC nor PMDC recognizes them.

They announced in the notice that some of these programs have been inspected and already recognized as official university programs. PMC will be reviewing the rest of the programs and the teaching hospitals that are conducting them. The criteria for the inspection is already designed. The Medical and Dental Academic Board designed it, and the Council approved it.

The PMC Notification

The notification says:

“Until these programs and teaching hospitals are inspected and recognized by the Pakistan Medical Commission, the universities may provisionally continue with such programs as ‘university-recognized programs’ subject to [PMC’s] terms.”

PMC gave the terms and conditions as well, according to which the program will be inspected.

The terms and conditions are:

a) If the Pakistan Medical Commission post-inspection recognizes a program and its teaching hospital, qualifications awarded to trainees of such programs irrespective of their induction or qualification shall be admitted to license.

b) If a program and its teaching hospital are not recognized by the Pakistan Medical Commission post-inspection, persons having qualified from such programmes shall be required to undertake a minimum further training as per terms prescribed by the Commission and duly certified by the supervisor at a recognized equivalent program and teaching hospital to have their qualification recognized.

c) Trainees at a program which is not recognized by the Pakistan Medical Commission post-inspection shall be allowed to shift to any other recognized equivalent program subject to a further training period as per terms prescribed by the Commission, to be undertaken to obtain the requisite qualification.

PMC

They have further added that all the universities planning to start new programs should first intimate the PMC. In fact, not just keep them in the loop but seek permission first. If a program is not recognized after inspection, the student will be at risk.

Bomb Scare Creates Panic At Karachi Airport

On Tuesday, Karachi Airport experienced a bomb scare, and that created panic. And rightfully so because we shouldn’t bet our lives on the bomb being a bluff. Considering we live in a country where bomb threats are still an issue, we should be very vigilant about our security.

So anyway, on Tuesday, the staff spotted a motorbike that had suspicious bags hanging on it. A very audible beeping sound was coming from it. And officials heard it during a routine check conducted 15 minutes after 3 pm. They also saw a blinking light coming from it. The bike was parked at the Domestic Cargo Gate.

Security and the Bomb Disposal Squad was immediately involved. They came on site and disconnected power to the section. They diffused the device in time but also stated that it was not really a bomb. Instead, it was flammable material. But it was definitely capable of starting a fire. Airport police have impounded the bike, and the area was marked clear.

The motorcycle owner was tracked, and it was found that he is a guard at Royal Airport Services. According to the owner, he had installed a flashing device at the Chota Gate, Malir. He said it was just a flashing device.

Police investigated based on this statement. They verified from the mechanic who had installed the device. After verification, they have handed the bike back to the owner.

Burger King Reveals Its ‘2020’ Burger & It’s Horrifying As It Sounds

Even though the pandemic started in 2019, it gained momentum in 2020. Australia saw a forest fire. And Lebanon witnessed a significant blast. And month after month, the year has, in simple terms, sucked. Even as the year ends, the bad news continues to grace us with its arrival. Case in point being the strain of coronavirus mutating and becoming more dangerous.

Obviously, advertising had to make its statement as well. It always does. It doesn’t matter if the ad’s product will sell or not because it is not made for that purpose. The product is made to make the brand stand out. When they are successful, they automatically gain or retain consumers.

Burger King employed that too. In fact, they keep doing it. There was one ad where they let the burger mold away. It was hideous to look at but also very creative.

This time they wanted to define the year 2020. So instead of using words, they used their specialty, the burger. The burger, they claimed, was going to look and taste like how one would visualize 2020. Interestingly, this is not just an ad but an entire campaign. It was created by DAVID São Paulo. In that campaign, they delegated social media users to come up with the worst recipe they could think of. They were told that they had to keep 2020 in their minds as they suggested ingredients. So here is what they came up with:

Burnt buns, sultanas, overcooked noodles, sardines, jackfruit, a chicken foot, thick caramel sauce, and Tutti-Frutti jello.

Well, Burger King said, ‘Roger that.’ They went ahead and used all these ingredients to make the utterly worst 2020 burger. And if you were to think that all these ingredients in isolation might not be that bad, here is the reaction to the atrocity that some of the brave citizens of the world had when they were made to try it.

Given how we have reacted to the year, their expressions look exact replicas of us. So, I’d say that Burger King has been successful in making the perfect 2020 burger. Good work indeed!

Pakistan Reports Cases Of The New Strain Of COVID-19

A few weeks back, the Government of the United Kingdom announced the emergence of a new variant of the Corona Virus which was a cause behind the number of cases increasing rapidly. The announcement of this mutation alarmed countries all around the world to take strict measures to prevent the spread of this new mutant of the already disruptive and deadly Covid-19.

Emergence Of The New Strain In Pakistan

The new strain of the coronavirus which is referred to as B.1.17 lineage has been detected in three out of six Covid positive travellers that landed to Karachi from the UK.

“The Genotyping showed 95% match of the new variant from the UK. These samples will go through another phase of genotyping” said Meeran Yousuf who is the Sindh Health Department’s spokesperson. He also revealed the fact that all three cases were detected at Karachi Airport.

The Sindh Health Department claims to inform about the revelations to the Special Assistant of Prime Minister Of Pakistan, Imran Khan on National Health Services, Dr. Faisal Sultan about the latest updates regarding the existence of this new variant within the Pakistani borders

The provincial health department has also stated that the contract tracing of these patients has been started and the people with whom these patients were under contact with will be isolated as well to prevent the spread of this strain any further.

What Has Been Known About The New Coronavirus Mutant?

According to the announcement by British Government, the health professionals in the UK claim that the variant is said to be up to 70% more transmissible than the virus normally is, making it more infectious than it initially was.

After this news broke, many countries including Pakistan placed travel bans to the UK to prevent the strain from crossing the border of the United Kingdom.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) revised the travel ban policy on Tuesday and allowed Business Visa, Visit Visa and Transit Visa holders with Pakistani Passports to be allowed to return upon showing a negative PCR test which is to be taken 72 hours before they travel back to Pakistan.

The identification of this new variant in patients that arrived in Karachi from the UK is alarming as the Pakistani health system is already exhausted with active Covid 19 cases that have severely affected the lives of Pakistanis, urging the government to revise its policies and take stern measures to enforce social distancing amongst the public to prevent the virus from spreading any further.

Let’s hope this alarming situation settles down soon so that the loss of lives and the disruptions caused by it could be prevented and we could go back to our normal lives.

Yaqeen Ka Safar – A Sad Attempt At Copying Dhoop Kinaray?

Ahad Raza Mir and Sajal Ali starrer Yaqeen Ka Safar made news for their beautiful chemistry. They brought life to Farhat Ishtiaq’s Dr. Asfandyar and Dr. Zoobia Khalil. Pakistan loved them a lot, so much that the actors were soon spotted in another show. And ultimately, Sajal and Ahad got married.

But let’s come back to the drama itself for a minute. Yaqeen ka Safar was quite popular, and even I loved it a lot. However, last week I decided to watch some old Pakistani dramas one more time. And I started with Dhoop Kinaray. I wanted to see the charming Dr. Ahmer romancing with Dr. Zoya Ali Khan. And guess what I found?

Yaqeen Ka Safar vs. Dhoop Kinaray

I found some crazy similarities between some characters and scenes of Yaqeen Ka Safar and Dhoop Kinaray. Now, we all know that Dhoop Kinaray was a show in 1987, so Yaqeen Ka Safar is the one that came later in the timeline. You don’t have to be a genius to figure out which seems to be a copy of which.

I mean, just look at Dr. Irfan, the jolly figure who kept the entire hospital staff entertained with timely poetry. He was from Dhoop Kinaray. Now take a look at Dr. Haroon from Yaqeen Ka Safar! Did you see any difference, well, other than Dr. Irfan’s performance being genuinely extraordinary? I mean, the chemistry between him and Anji was great, but so was his chemistry with Dr. Ahmer and Dr. Zoya, and all the other doctors on the staff.

The iconic comparison

Then we have the iconic scene where Dr. Zoya has witnessed victims of bomb blast being brought in. She has treated them, but she also saw fatalities all around her. And that’s when she loses it and starts crying. Dr. Ahmer arrives and lovingly consoles and scolds her.

Now, let’s have a look at Yaqeen Ka Safar. Dr. Zoobia loses a patient, and Dr. Asfandyar has to come and console her and tell her that she, as a doctor has to continue working while going through what she is going through.

It seemed like a copy, in fact, a sad replica of the scene from Dhoop Kinaray, to me at least.

The character arches were utterly different. And so was the back story. So I am not saying that Farhat Ishtiaq copied it all. All I am saying is that she should have put in more effort to come up with character personalities.
