Students Protest After HEC Announces Its Associate Degree Program

HEC

If you do a 4-year bachelor program and someone else does a 2-year program, would you think of that education as your equal? Well, HEC apparently doesn’t think of it that way. And so, they announced that the 2-year programs to be unacceptable. Any such program that gave degrees after the academic year of 2018 was not going to be recognized.

HEC issued the directive in 2019. But here is the thing, there were people already enrolled in the two-year degree programs for the year 2018-2019. Some must have ended their 2-year program in 2020. All of them got informed that they do not hold a valid degree anymore. This must have been quite a shock for them.

HEC turns BA/BS into Associate Degree

As a possible solution, HEC has also said that those who have already attained this education or are currently enrolled in it, they can be awarded ‘Associate Degree’ instead of Bachelors. This obviously does not sit well with those students who sought admission with the hope of receiving a bachelor’s at the end of it. And hence, they started protesting.

The Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT) was seen protesting on Tuesday in front of the Governor House. The agenda of the protestors were not just limited to bringing back the two-year bachelor’s program and denouncing the Associate Degree but also talking about MDCAT. The placards stated that they found irregularities in the MDCAT exam conducted under the supervision of the Pakistan Medical Commission. They said that they would prefer the restoration of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council.

For the Associate Degree Program, the IJT spokesperson said that thousands of students were forced to accept the AD program because they couldn’t complete the four-year program, so HEC should bring the 2-year bachelor’s degree back.

1. Proton Calender:

Now, this is a similar application brought to you by the creators of Protonmail. Protonmail is an extremely efficient way to categorize, sort and protect the privacy of your mail. The app uses encryption methods that are hard to break through, so this makes it a good app for mail retrieval.

Proton Calendar works on the same principle as Protonmail, except for Calendar applications. It can sort out your events, birthdays and you can customize whole week’s according to your schedule. Right now, it is only free for those who are subscribed to Protonmail but the developers have said to make it free for all in the future.

2. Mutify:

Now, this is an entirely useful app. Yes, we must refer to it that way because its application knows no bounds. One of the reasons that people don’t go back from Spotify is because the nonpremium version has ads. Those ads can seem like an annoyance and a nuisance at times. However, Mutify works on an extremely smart principle.

What the application does is, it lowers the volume on the apps when they appear. However, it doesn’t work when you’re changing music manually. It is currently free on both the Android and IOS stores.

It will let you know how long you have walked when you have walked. Whether you’re out for errands or just a short evening walk, this app can always be your buddy and keep a track of your trip!

4. Bundled Notes:

This is a note compilation app and had a wide application. It creates ‘Bundles’ of whichever work you have decided to compile in one place in case you have a sea of work all related to automobiles. Now, you can create separate bundles that can classify the work between types of automobiles or types of wheels, etc.

Due to this, the app has a wide application, it can literally bundle anything you give it. Is that not a good app for the week for IOS and Android both? It is definitely worth a glance at.

5. Eumathes:

However, this will be interesting to see how the market responds to its first Electric vehicle considering the metrics that are used by local car users to evaluate the performance of a car which includes maintenance charges, fuel average, parts availability etc.

Karachi Karsaz Churail Spotted In Malir Cantt

If you are a true Pakistani, you would have definitely heard of the Karsaz Churail. The legend has it that the Karsaz churail was really a bride whose groom died on Karsaz road. She was truly heartbroken and died. They say that she still roams the road where her husband-to-be is said to have died.

The Hauntings of The Karsaz area

Because of Karsaz Churail, the area started to become associated with a lot of rumors as well. You may have come across posts on Instagram, claiming that there are uninhabited houses that have been seen with a child hanging at the window. And much more. But really, they could just be rumors. The real attraction of Karsaz has always been the churail bride.

Karsaz Churail Bride in Karsaz

The Karsaz road used to be very dark and lonely, with absolutely no traffic initially. So the myth became strong. Now, however, the road is very vibrant, with restaurants and residential areas having been made. In fact, you will find a lot of ghostbusters traveling to Karsaz and returning with failure in their eyes because they couldn’t see her. We just might have solved the mystery for them. The reason they couldn’t see the Karsaz Churail is not that she is a made-up lie but that she may have been posted elsewhere.

Spotted at Malir Cantt

In recent news, it has been said that the famous chai place in Malir Cantt Karachi, Four Dots, may have been the current residence of Karsaz Churail. A Mair Cantt resident reported on a social media group that he saw a woman in black robes who insisted on dropping her off at the park of phase 1, Malir Cantt. Let it be noted that the park is the most creepiest of the entire residential area and people avoid visiting that park after nightfall. The man asked the lady to procure a Malir Cantt pass, but she insisted on getting a lift. This is all happening late at night after 1 a.m.

Well, there goes all my late-night chai trips to Four Dots. I am not ready to meet the churail yet.

As it turns out, ghosts do prefer lonely places, and if they become as crowded as Karsaz, they take refuge in gated communities. Are we really pushing out the ghosts as well? And are ghosts really going to stay silent at this urban dislocation?

It’s NOT Just A Game – It’s Much More Than That

Even if you had never held a gaming controller, there is very little chance you haven’t heard of the term ‘eSports.’ Not long ago gaming was a mere leisure activity for teens and younger; it hardly even got branded as a hobby by many a decade ago. It is not the case anymore, rather it has taken a drastic shift. To frame it in a larger viewpoint, the analysis from Allied eSports, a leading eSports entertainment company, is an eye-opener.

According to them, as an industry, video gaming is already bigger than music and movies industries combined. eSports is on the path of hitting over $300 billion by the year 2025, as predicted by Forbes.

eSports, short for electronic sports, is organized and competitive video gaming that earned the status of a sport particularly because of these two features. Like any other sport, eSports has its own digital and physical events attended by millions of fans from around the world earning billions of dollars in revenue.

Inception and rapid growth of the Battle Royale genre has been the catalyst to this industry’s inconceivable success. PUBG, Fortnite, Call of Duty: Warzone & Apex Legends are all popular Battle Royale titles which are essentially online multiplayer video games that blend survival, exploration, and scavenging elements of a survival game with last-man-standing gameplay.

Developing countries like Pakistan have retrospectively always been slow in adopting to the latest developments, especially tech-related. eSports and Battle Royale specifically, in Pakistan, have been a different story altogether. Since a lot of modern games have their mobile versions and for the Battle Royale genre mobile phones are the preferred platform it spread swiftly requiring no hefty investments, unlike the conventional console or PC-based games.

Unfortunately, this whole community of gamers in Pakistan pretty much existed under the radar of public and state acknowledgment until one fine day when one of these games got banned locally. The ban and the reaction to it from the masses evidenced on a lot of levels the unheeded strength and size of the eSports community in Pakistan.  It sparked a debate, a healthy one for what it’s worth. The voice was acknowledged by the authorities and the ban was lifted … but what now?

In conventional sporting events of all natures and scopes, Pakistan’s continuing dismal or non-existent performance is no secret. Lack of infrastructure, opportunities and above all utter ignorance of governments are the few talked about reasons of the declining state of sports in Pakistan, they can all be addressed locally for eSports at this budding stage.

Developing players for global competition is just one aspect of the matter, game development is another. A number of Pakistani game developers and other technical resources working internationally for big game development studios is proof that Pakistanis have the acumen and the desire to succeed in this area. With the likes of advisors and technocrats rightly hired to consult the government based on their core expertise, celebrated game developers like Shahid Kamal Khan, ex-Director Strategic Content at Sony and an avid game developer at heart is the kind of mentors Pakistan can engage to guide Pakistani game developers.

The development and success of this sector while benefiting Pakistanis can potentially create a whole lot good for the government as well. It can boost government’s efforts in achieving their multiple targets; mainly employment and the much talked about foreign investments. The whole eSports industry is a big pool of cash, from sponsorships, advertising, streaming rights, merchandise and magnanimous prize money. By not being a part of it we are not only missing out on great opportunities but also letting others take a head start owing to our utter disregard in understanding the impact of this new industry.

According to Newzoo, one of the world’s most trusted and quoted sources for games market insights and analytics, annual mobile gaming revenues in India are forecast to grow from $1.1 billion in 2018 to $2.4 billion in 2020. This makes India the fastest-growing mobile games market in the world by overall revenue. On the contrary, with respect to prize money won by players, Pakistan has beaten India consecutively by a considerable margin for the last couple of years. The talent surely is there, just a little rub down and this can be THE solution to a lot of our economic as well as social problems.

No solution can be expected until the problem is identified as a problem, which unfortunately is the phase we are in. The authorities need to crawl out from under the rock and understand that gaming is not just children do to waste their time. The world has changed and by banning or ignoring this in Pakistan is only going to set us further back. When we can get assistance from China in all matters of state, why not in developing our eSports industry. In the time Pakistan has achieved its total annual exports of 21 Billion USD, China has earned over 40 Billion USD in just gaming-related revenue.

Pakistan is an agricultural country. This statement has been valid for the past 70 years and it is high time that Pakistan, as a country finds better, more suitable avenues of earnings that not just stabilizes but future proofs our economy.

5 Things An Avid Pakistani Traveler Can Relate To

Pakistani Traveler

You may love traveling, but as a Pakistani, it is very hard to do so, especially if you are a girl. Even if you are a guy, you have to get ‘permission’ from your dad, and it doesn’t matter if you are a fully grown adult and have celebrated your 30th birthday. But if somehow you have figured out the hacks of getting that rare ‘permission,’ there will be few things that, as a Pakistani traveler, you can definitely relate to.

1. Tons of things for as short as a 2-day trip

Now the trip could literally be lesser than 48 hours; Travelling in the early hours of Saturday and reaching in the late hours of Sunday. But a Pakistani traveler will take a few bags, water bottles, wedding albums, bed, house, and any other thing they lay their eyes on.

2. What ifs

What ifs are the most significant part of prepping adventure. What if the weather suddenly turns cold in the mid of June? So let’s take a pair of winter clothes.

What if you lose one water bottle? You should take 3. Don’t lie; we have all done that.

3. Blaming the office

If you are a female traveler, tell the phuppos your office sent you. Oops, did I say it out loud?

Well, they won’t go to your office to confirm which conference sent you to Turkey now, did they?

4. Not switching off phones until the last minute

On the plane, as you leave Pakistan, you will always find some weird fellow Pakistani who will cross the limit with the air hosts and hostesses but not turn off their phones. It’s not nice to do that, good sirs.

5. Making the plane your good old W-11

Have you ever traveled on Karachi’s local buses? W-11 was the worst off amongst all of them. And Pakistanis can make a normal plane seem like W-11. While the plane is taxi-ing, they will all rise from their seats and take out their luggage. No dear, you can’t jump out; you’ll hurt yourself.

These are just some aspects that every avid Pakistani traveler can relate to. If you are also one of them and have more things to share, do let us know in the comments. We will be sure to add them to the list. And Happy Travelling!

PCB Reveals Pick Order For The First Round Of PSL 2021 Draft

The sixth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is around the corner, and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), announced the pick order for the first round of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021 draft.

Through a post on the official account of Pakistan Super League (PSL), PCB revealed the order of the picks for the first round.

The first pick has been given to the winners of the first and third editions of PSL, Islamabad United (IU), whereas the current champions, Karachi Kings (KK), will have the last pick.

IU’s pick will be followed by Multan Sultans, Lahore Qalandars, Peshawar Zalmi, Quetta Gladiators, and Karachi Kings.

The possibility of holding the event in an open-air setting is being discussed because of the coronavirus pandemic’s spread, forcing the tournament to go ahead behind closed doors.

The CEO of the PCB, Wasim Khan, revealed tentative dates in his statements, according to which the tournament is to begin by February 20, 2021. “We are looking to start from February 20 to March 21, and these are the tentative dates just like the last season. We have informed the franchises, and they are aware of these dates,” he said.

He also revealed the venues for the sixth edition, where Balochistan and Peshawar failed to make a place in the list. “The matches will be played at the same four venues, Karachi, Lahore, Multan, and Rawalpindi,” he informed.

Celebrate New Year With Personalized Sticker on WhatsApp

Are you also the kind of person who doesn’t like to converse with words rather emotions? Because I am. And so, more than writing complete sentences, I prefer using emojis, gifs, and stickers. They keep the conversation interesting. And many applications provide a whole reservoir of stickers to choose from. But what if, this new year, you could create your own sticker?

Whatsapp, the messaging app, is offering the chance to make personalized stickers for the new year. This way, you will not be limited to the available stickers, and you can employ your creativity. So welcome to the time when you can create your own sticker packs. So let’s tell you how you can make the sticker pack.

whatsapp sticker

You will have to download an app for that, though.

Step 1: Download app

First of all, go to App Store or Play Store and download the app. The app is ‘Sticker Maker’. You can also use the ‘Sticker Studio – WhatsApp Sticker Maker’ app if you can’t find the ‘Sticker Maker’.

Step 2: Create Stickerpack

So what you need to do is open the application. You will then need to click on the ‘Create a new stickerpack.’

Step 3: Name the stickerpack

You obviously can name your sticker pack yourself because, of course, they are personalized ones, are they not? And then you can give credits to yourself. I mean, just imagine, your sticker goes viral, people should not it was the Karachiite Saba. She doesn’t always ask for a mobile balance; sometimes, she also creates stickers.

Step 4: Up to 15 new year stickers!

Once you have named the pack, you will get the option of creating 15 stickers in every pack. To generate the sticker, you can take a photo right away, choose one from the gallery, or you can also select the option of text.

Step 5: Edit Away

Once you select the picture you want to start with, you will get the option to edit it or cut it out. You can also crop the image usually, but honestly, go for the freehand option; cutting the picture with that option makes it a more personalized vibe. Don’t forget to save the sticker.

Step 6: Add to Whatsapp

After making the stickers, you will have to choose the option of ‘Add to WhatsApp’. You will get a confirmation message. You don’t have to have 15 stickers, but you should definitely have three stickers in the sticker pack.

Now go to Whatsapp, you will see the sticker pack in the sticker sub-section of the emoji section.

pakistani-iconic-couple

Have you ever wondered why has an on-screen couple melted your heart or sizzled the screen? If not, here are the two top most reasons we could come up with.

Firstly, it is the chemistry between the couple that makes you wonder what would it be like to have a similar person in your life. Secondly, it is the story which is the brain child of some great writers that makes you feel like you are, indeed a part of it.

These iconic couples not only look good together, but the idea and the way they are portrayed in the drama has a huge impact on our lives; this is why they are remembered for a long time to come.

10 Ridiculous Bollywood Posters with NO LOGIC

With an intense competition in this field, we have tried to compile a list of our all-time favorite on-screen couples for you. Let’s have a look;

1. Fawad Khan & Mahira Khan – Humsafar

We all know Khirad and Asher and their amazing chemistry on-screen. It is not surprising for a couple this good looking to win hearts. However, apart from their good looks, the director ‘Sarmad Khoosat’ also played a major role in the success of the drama.

2. Osman Khalid Butt & Maya Ali – Diyar e Dil/ Aun Zara

The amazing sync between Wali and Farah is something to rave about. It made the girls go crazy and indulge in weekly debates on how good looking Wali was or how they despised some characters.

Even though Bano and Hassan never got their happy ending but ‘Dastaan’ was never about their love story. Dastaan was a story about passion and struggle for freedom, pure love, and true sacrifice.

It wasn’t our everyday love story but a tale about sacrifices that the Muslims gave in order to acquire a land they could call theirs.

Bano and Hassan resonated with everybody who has once loved and then lost it. The ending was heartbreaking and disappointing for many, but it was true to its plot.

11. Rahat Kazmi & Marina Khan – Dhoop Kinarey

Dhoop Kinarey revolved around two doctors, Ahmer, and Zoya, who fell in love with each other despite the huge age gap and were later subjected to atrocities by the society. Nevertheless, the couple came out stronger than ever.

The inclination of Ahmer towards Zoya is what makes them the old-school equivalent of Fawad and Mahira. It was later adopted in a Hindi drama serial ‘Kuch Tou Log Kahenge’ as well.

12. Asif Raza Mir & Shahnaz Shaikh – Tanhaiyaan

Tanhaiyaan, a cult classic, was directed by the legendary Shahzad Khalil. The drama is about Zara, who is too lost in earning money to get back her old house that she neglects true love and her family.

The name of the drama depicts the loneliness Zara feels when she has achieved everything she thought she ever wanted and in the process, lost everything she ever had.

Bushra Ansari answered this by explaining her mindset all these 36 years. She mentioned that whenever she thought of opting out of the marriage, she kept in mind her daughters who would feel troubled.

Just like any mother, she thought here is a case in which only I am feeling troubled and then there is another scenario in which 3 people are, her daughters too! Hence, she kept quiet and managed for 36 years until her daughters were in their own homes.

Exploring AirSial While Traveling For Work, Was It Worth It?

AirSial

Let me give you a little insight about AirSial before I share my experience with all of you.

AirSial is the freshest production in Pakistan’s aviation! It is a Sialkot –based airline which is an accomplishment of the members of Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry. It is Pakistan’s third privately-owned airline which aims to be the Pride of Pakistan and a leading airline of the region. AirSial is said to operate in Karachi, Sialkot, Islamabad, Lahore & Peshawar.

Well, guess what? I got a chance to travel via AirSial from Karachi to Islamabad!

Enroute to the airport

Arrival at the airport

As I reached the airport, the inaugural ceremony of AirSial was being held with the representatives of AirSial.

Check out this beautiful inaugural ceremony in Karachi & Islamabad!

They even had a cute photobooth for children!

Check-In at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi

The check-in counter, which was decorated with green and gold balloons, opened right on-time. The check-in staff was seen wearing khaki suits paired with white shirts and green ties. I headed straight over and handed my ticket and CNIC to the check-in counter representative and he proactively checked me in. The staff was super-efficient and sweet.

The best part? He asked me my seat preference and I said, “of course, the window seat!” He smiled and handed my boarding pass along with a goodie bag!

The goodie bag items included a deo, mug, pen, keychain and a coaster

Not only that but he was sweet enough to allow me to take his picture

Travel tip: For domestic travels, carry your original ID card.

Once I was handed my boarding pass, I was politely asked to head over to the gate and to my surprise, the waiting lounge was packed! To kill some time, I decided to have some fun and spotted the cabin crew of AirSial, a group of beautiful flight attendants. I made them an innocent request – a silhouette boomerang video, to which they agreed and had it shot like pros!

Here it is!

Talk about being in sync

Boarding the aircraft

During boarding, the passengers were divided into 3 batches; in order to avoid any hassle and maintain SOPs, so no bottlenecks were faced. Repeated announcements were being made to instruct passengers to keep their documents handy and follow SOPs.

And well, it was finally time to board the plane!

As I made my way to the aircraft, two cabin crew members were standing at the door to welcome the passengers and wished everyone a safe flight. They were dressed in very sophisticated uniforms designed by the famous, Nomi Ansari. He sure did an eye-catching job! The aircraft was clean and smelled fresh! The seats were clean and comfortable too.

Flight experience keeping in mind the SOPs

Whether the flight is short or long, it should always be a comfortable and pleasant experience. The cabin crew was extremely humble and helpful. I was amazed by the hospitality! Before take-off, as usual, the cabin crew guided the passengers with safety instructions in Urdu & English.

The take-off and punctuality

Take-offs and landings make a lot of people sweat, however, with AirSial, what I experienced was a smooth takeoff, didn’t feel any jerks at all, thank goodness! Plus, they were punctual enough to take off on time! An evidence of effective management.

Moreover, the flight attendants distributed masks to those who weren’t seen wearing them and sanitized the passengers’ hands.

So, not once did I feel they were compromising on quality and hospitality. Not only that but some CAA officials were also on board to keep a check on quality assurance.

Additionally, there were repetitive announcements instructing the passengers to follow SOPs. In case of any violations, the airline has the right to take legal actions against the passenger. An evidence of no-compromise!

We flew at 35,000 ft and I loved my view, thanks to the window seat!

Did anyone ever talk about the ‘passengers‘ not cooperating?

This is important.

While traveling, especially during the pandemic, please note how we must all follow SOPs. I saw passengers removing their masks and not cooperating with the flight attendants. Some passengers were repeatedly requested to put on their masks for everyone’s safety yet an utter disregard of instructions was demonstrated. Hats off to the staff for possessing so much patience!

My face when passengers were violating the SOPs:

Food

Due to COVID-19, the airline is currently not serving meals in order to curb the spread of COVID-19. However, AirSial will be the first airline to serve a two casserole meal for each palate with. How amazing is that?!

Touch down in Islamabad

We landed in Islamabad right on time and like I said, take-offs and landings make people sweat but surprisingly, the landing was absolutely smooth, owing to Air Sial’s pilot’s expertise. They made sure we have a pleasant experience and that was exactly the case.

Disembarking

COVID-19 SOPs were strictly followed throughout the journey. The disembarking was also a showcase of effective management and control, all Passengers were asked to leave their seats in batches in order to main social distancing.

My verdict

Well, will I travel via AirSial again? Definitely! The hospitality, punctuality and most importantly, the safety measures were exceptional! I was impressed by their operational practices and service standards.

AirSial, you’re sure to reach greater heights if you continue providing such amazing services to a passenger! Definitely setting high standards for the competitors.

Hope you liked my account of Air-Sial’s launch and travel experience. Share your thoughts in the comments below!

COVID-19 To Stay For The Next Ten Years, Says CEO of BioNTech

COVID Vaccination Centers

COVID began as the year 2019 was ending. However, people didn’t pay much heed to it, at least not until it had taken hold of the whole of Italy. After that, Coronavirus just took over the whole world, be it the tourism industry, the news sector, the entertainment industry. Every sector, every industry, was just arrested with the idea of COVID-19, so every discussion revolved around it.

When everything was just paused due to COVID, the pharmaceutical companies jumped into action. They wanted to develop and roll out the vaccine as soon as possible. And they were finally able to. But then there was another scary news awaiting the world. The moment the vaccine for the virus was made, the 2.0 version was discovered in the UK. And then, while the vaccine developers were grappling at trying to figure out how to develop the cure for the new strain, some other country witnessed a newer version.

CEO BioNTech

The vaccine developer, BioNTech’s CEO, hinted that the virus would stay for the next ten years. The CEO shared this prediction in a virtual press conference. So we need to get used to the new normal that people were previously using as a joke.

“We need a new definition of normal. The virus will stay with us for the next ten years.”

covid-19

So the 45 countries that were already expecting the vaccine will now need to get the vaccine for other strains emerging. However, BioNTech CEO has said that the vaccine can be modified for the new vaccine in six weeks. But would that imply that the original virus’s vaccine development would be halted? Moreover, what about every time another strain appears? What would be the game plan for that? Maybe keeping all of these pointers in mind, the CEO set the ten-year deadline.

CEO BioNTech Ugur Sahin:

“In principle, the beauty of the messenger technology is that we can directly start to engineer a vaccine which completely mimics this new mutation – we could be able to provide a new vaccine technically within six weeks.”

New strain(s) of COVID-19

According to Ugur, the new variant in the UK will not impact the vaccine’s efficacy so the whole world basically can stop panicking. The vaccine developers are yet to see what effect it could have.

But here is the news one should panic about. Ever since the discovery of the second mutation, there have been more fatalities ever since April, when the original virus was at its peak.

The Health Secretary Matt Hancock said:

“This new variant is highly concerning because it is yet more transmissible, and it appears to have mutated further than the new variant that has been discovered in the UK.”

The first mutation of the COVID-19 is 70 percent more transmissible than the original strain, so London primarily has seen Tier 4 restrictions.

PepsiCo Amal Youth Program

Pakistan is one of those countries that are rich with resources – natural and intellectual. And as is the case with our natural resources, even our intellectual resources remain mostly unexplored or untapped because of the lack of infrastructure. We, as a country, are blessed with intelligent, bright young individuals who have the skills and the passion but lack the direction. They have all the ingredients that make a successful thinker, innovator, leader and entrepreneur, but not the recipe.

However, that is not to say that there are no opportunities. Many graduates are not even familiar with the limited opportunities that they do have. This gap between potential and opportunity creates many lost opportunities for several deserving individuals; they struggle to find the right path because they don’t know where to look. To address this critical disadvantage, PepsiCo has partnered with Amal Academy to close the gap between the talent pool and the job pool.

The PepsiCo Amal Youth Program is a fellowship program that, during the course of three months, trains individuals in soft skills that are critical for any individual who wishes to enter the job market. Some of the soft skills that are a part of the training program include confidence building, public speaking, and presentation skills. These are some of the skills that help improve a graduate’s skillset, and makes them more marketable.

To mark the momentous occasion, PepsiCo hosted a virtual graduation ceremony on December 23. At the ceremony, PepsiCo and Amal Academy, under the umbrella of PepsiCo Amal Youth Program, announced the Class of 2020, which consisted of 1,600 fellows, 40 percent of whom were young women. Furthermore, the graduates represented more than 135 towns and villages across Pakistan.

Speaking at the ceremony were CEO PepsiCo Pakistan and Afghanistan, Mr. Furqan Ahmed Syed, Mr. Benje Williams Co-Founder Amal Academy, Ali Siddiq the CEO of Amal Academy and the Federal Minister of Science and Technology, Mr. Fawad Chaudhry. The keynote speaker at the ceremony was Ms. Jaqueline Novogratz, Founder and CEO of Acumen.

To provide some background, the PepsiCo Amal Youth Program was launched in 2018, as a platform to train students for soft skills imperative in the competitive job market. Two years in, the program successfully expanded itself into the Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa regions. Another, more significant achievement, is the fact that of 1,600 fellows, 96 percent have secured job offers or have been guaranteed entrepreneurial ventures.

The program has gained credibility by partnering with the Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) and 16 different universities. This helps fellows of the program secure better opportunities, and compete with and as some of the best students in the country, regardless of where they hail from or their circumstances.

Speaking at the ceremony, Pakistan’s Federal Minister of Science and Technology – Mr. Fawad Chaudhary acknowledged the efforts of the students and the program, “I want to congratulate the 1600 fellows graduating today. I want to wish them luck and would encourage them to pursue their passions. I also want to commend PepsiCo and Amal Academy on this important collaboration.”

Mr. Furqan Ahmed Syed – CEO PepsiCo Pakistan and Afghanistan elaborated, “The PepsiCo – Amal Youth program lends itself to great opportunities for the youth of Pakistan. Our fellows graduating today are extremely passionate, motivated and keen to prove themselves. I am very excited to see what they will achieve for themselves and for the country.”

Mr. Ali Siddiq, the CEO of Amal Academy, was also extremely optimistic about the collaboration, “with PepsiCo’s support, we hope to further expand the program and benefit more young people going forward.”

One of the highlights of the ceremony was the social impact aspect of the program, which instills the importance of giving back to the community. It is mandatory for each fellow to be part of a two-month project called the ‘Mega Project’ which requires for fellows to come with a workable solution to a challenge faced by their communities. Over the past two years, the fellows have delivered over 600 such projects and impacted more than 21,000 people throughout the country.

We appreciate the great effort being done by PepsiCo and Amal Academy and we wish the very best of luck to all the graduates!

According To Wikipedia, Esra Bilgic Is Yasir Hussain’s Mother

esra bilgic

Ever since Drilis-Ertugrul gained fame in Pakistan, it was a bit hard for certain local producers and actors to accept, that Pakistanis were no longer interested in typical dramas whose plots revolved around mother-in-law and daughter-in-law’s fights, Extra-marital affairs and overly-emotional unrealistic storylines.

The fame gained by the Turkish stars and dramas was criticized by a few noticeable people of the Pakistani industry who perceived the fame of Ertugrul as a threat rather than taking notes about what the Pakistani viewers were willing to watch. One of the noticeable critics of the drama being broadcasted in Pakistan was Yasir Hussain.

So Why Has Google Listed Esra Bilgic aka Halime Sultan as Yasir Hussain’s Mother?

Now as we approach towards the end of 2020, someone vandalized Yasir Hussain’s Wikipedia page, adding Ertugrul’s Halime Sultan as his mother prompting Google to show Esra Bilgic as Yasir Hussain’s mother.

However there is one problem, Esra Bilgic 8 years younger than Yasir.

Obviously the netizens took it to twitter and made fun of the entire ordeal and had jokes to crack.

It has been a ride since Drilis-Ertugrul gained popularity in Pakistan. After Prime Minister Imran Khan suggested the series to the Pakistani public and it was announced that the series will be broadcasted on PTV, the drama gained immense popularity and love from the Pakistani public for its plot and the fact the story was centered around the Islamic values, contrary to the Indian and Western series and movies we are normally used to seeing.

Yasir has been able to make a name for himself since the past few years after being involved in numerous controversies which has already made him one of the polarized figures of Pakistan. He came under fire after he cracked a joke about child abuse in Hum Awards 2017 after which he had to later apologize.

He also made distasteful comments about transgenders on Instagram, made irresponsible comments about his fellow-star Hania Amir and her issues with acne along with several other irresponsible comments prompting him to become one of the actors of the Pakistani drama industry who are always intertwined in controversies. Recently, a rendition of Anwar Maqsood and Moin Akhtar’s LooseTalk made rounds on social media with Yasir Hussain replacing Moin Akhtar which also prompted reaction from the audience.

With a track record like this, virtual vandalism like this was likely to happen with Yasir Hussain.
