Pakistanis Furious After Bollywood Remakes Ali Azmat’s Sayonee

Remember Junoon? Even if you don’t, remember Pakistan going crazy about Junoon reunion a while back? Well, that beloved band of Pakistan is associated with several popular Pakistani songs. And among them is a song, Sayonee, which more than Junoon’s is called Ali Azmat’s Sayonee.

Now that song has been remade by Bollywood’s Lucky Nadiadwala Morani Productions. They are the proud makers of movies like ‘Raja Hindustani’, ‘Damini’, and ‘Yarana’. The production house is remaking the song for a film with the same name. And it stars Tanmay Ssingh, Musskan Sethi, Yograj Singh, and Rahul Roy.

T-Series has given credits on the remake of Sayonee’s official poster. And they called the original melody a timeless soundtrack that after decades has the same fan following. But they probably did not expect that fan following to react negatively to it. Because the fan following is not liking the version. They believe that this one is beneath the original version.

Man In Burqa, Without Pants Caught Harassing Women In Karachi

When people ask why women march when this country gives them so many rights, events like yesterday happen. Events like yesterday that tell you why women are scared of existing in the public sphere. And yes, not all men may be criminals. Several of them indeed helped the women out by saving them from that one man. However, the confidence that one man had in harassing women would affect all their future interactions with other men. So that is why women march on the streets!

The incident: harassing women

On Tuesday, a man was caught because he was harassing women while wearing a burqa but no pants! He started roaming around the Liaquatabad market in Karachi and would intentionally brush against women. Some women complained, and the shopkeepers took notice immediately. They caught the man and beat him up. The police came right after to arrest him.

During the investigation, they found that the suspect resides in the Garden area and he left his house fully dressed. He did take his wife’s burqa with him. And upon reaching the Liaquatabad market, he took off his pants and left it in the front seat of his car. He then wore the burqa and went into the crowded market.

Analyzing the Crime

The attention to detail shows that this was a pre-planned crime. He went to the market with the idea that he is superior to women, and hence, he can harass them openly in the market. And the fact that he wore the burqa also shows that he knows it’s a crime; what he intends to do is wrong, and just to evade being recognized, he hid his face.

Now yes, authorities have relayed a back story humanizing his side, and some publications will cover the man’s news with that aspect as well, but should we do that? Regardless of what was happening in his personal life, he made the wrong choice, and he should be held accountable for it. Because if someone is having a problem in their marital life, they should have the stamina to deal with it in-house. Let’s say they are the victims, then I say, get out of that relationship.

The food chain Burger King became that business to do so. Burger King UK titles their notice ‘Order from Mc Donald’s’.And in the detailed message, they urged their consumers to order from this and more competitor brands.

The Burger King notice comes right after British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the second lockdown considering the rise in COVID cases. This time the lockdown will span over four weeks. Having seen the effects of the lockdown the first time, the businesses are right to be worried about what will happen. And not just the companies, the employees since even the last time, a considerable number of employees were laid off.

Instead of endorsing the nature of competition or showcase who the rival is and who is not, Burger King decided to remind consumers to donate a helping hand to the entire food industry. Because if no one orders and people run out of business, they will close down.

Fun Trolls in the Notice

While they indicated that all these restaurants employ thousands of people, they also sneaked in trolls in the message. One such example was adding the part where some of the fast foods are slow. So they said “fast or not so fast,” get it?

And at another instance, they said:

“Getting a Whopper is always best, but ordering a Big Mac is also not such a bad thing.”\

A publication got in touch with Burger King UK to get their statement on this message. According to them, this effort was initiated by Burger King France.

Meanwhile, the Global CMO of Restaurant Brands International, Fernando Machado, said:

“As countries across Europe head into lockdown mode again, we know many restaurants across the region will continue to feel the impact. We are all in this together and need to support the many restaurant’s guests know and love, and the thousands of jobs restaurants provide.”

“The team at BK France created a campaign to support the restaurant industry and invite guests to continue to enjoy their favorite meals via drive-thru, pick-up, or delivery. BK U.K. and other markets across the region will be joining the united effort to support the foodservice industry.”

KP Female Police Officer To Go On UN Peacekeeping Mission

Pakistan’s female police officer, ASI Saima Sharif from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, selected to go on a UN Peacekeeping mission.

The pandemic issued worldwide panic and lockdowns in many countries. While lockdown would lead to containment of the virus, there were other issues that our forces would have to take care of. They had to get much more active in trying to solve problems such as domestic violence cases.

And here we saw police officers excelling in their tasks. One such example is Sub-inspector (ASI) Saima Sharif, who ensured that neither COVID nor the resulting crimes messed up with the lives of the citizens.

“People’s worry about unemployment and thinning finances started feeding people to their vices. Domestic abuse cases were seen to be skyrocketing the most. In just one month of lockdown, over 17 domestic violence cases were reported in my precinct,” ASI in talks with a local news publication.

The sub-inspector from Peshawar responded to the prime minister’s call when the coronavirus task force was being formed. She was posted at a high-risk quarantine center. And her responsibilities included providing medicine, security, food, and other essentials to the center.

Meanwhile, criminals were making use of this time to continue their crimes when the police force served in quarantine centers. The streets were infested with crime.

In an interview with a local publication, ASI Saima said:

“Lawlessness was gaining momentum, and I was told by my station to immediately respond to a campaign to root out crime and arrest wanted criminals. The first call I got was a report of a murder case in the small village of Jala Bela. We headed there right away, raided the hideout, and arrested the accused. Everyone had to know we weren’t letting any crime go unseen, no matter how occupied the force was.”

Post-Lockdown and UN Peacekeeping Mission

When the lockdown was lifted, the challenges didn’t end. Instead, they changed face. She said that just in the month of September, there were two robberies of over PKR 40 Million only in Peshawar. There were 19 motorcycle theft cases, 11 mobile snatchings, and three target violence cases.

Her efforts were recognized, and she was selected to represent Pakistan in the UN. Before Saima, Gul Nisa from KP Police was also chosen for UN peacekeeping in March 2020. And back in February, Pakistan’s female soldiers received a UN medal for their services in Congo.

Pakistan has been an active participant in UN peacekeeping mission since 1960.

Covid had not yet ended, but the lockdown sure did. And it had to, considering its effects on businesses. The country slowly and gradually started opening up, and everyone was supposed to follow SOPs, which happened for the most part. However, there were violations of COVID-19 SOPs.

Second Wave of COVID-19

Considering the imminent second wave of COVID, the government is taking measures to ensure that the people follow SOPs. But it is hard to keep track of 200 million Pakistanis. So for this very reason, the National Command and Operations Centre has enlisted help in keeping a check all over Pakistan. And since the second wave will be more dangerous than the first wave, especially for the covid recovered patients, this step was necessary.

Asad Umar, the NCOC chairman and Federal Minister for Planning and Development, said:
“With the arrival of second-wave and continued wide-scale violation of the SOPs, the NCOC has decided to seek citizens to help for SOP compliance.”

He implored people to take photo evidence of wherever they find SOPs being violated. And then send those pictures along with the location on a government-issued number (+923353336262). These images can be of people not wearing masks or avoiding social distancing, especially in crowded places.

Violations of COVID-19 SOPs

Given the steep rise in numbers for covid cases, the government is taking strict measures. At first, it used only warnings, but now all must wear masks and exercise social distancing when leaving households. Moreover, NCOC is urging the provinces to ensure that all the SOPs are being followed in public spaces such as restaurants and malls. It should be noted that it is not a warning at this point.

And we know that the situation is dire given that the case positivity rate has surpassed 2% in the main cities of Pakistan. The cities include Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Multan, Hyderabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzzafarabad, Mirpur, Peshawar, and Quetta.

Time to Arrest

But let’s say we report the violation of COVID SOPs, then what? According to the Islamabad imposed Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) for two months, the police will arrest the violators.

Meanwhile, Punjab has applied almost 500 micro smart lockdowns. And most of them are just in Lahore. Moreover, Sindh Education Minister indicated closing schools once again, this time indefinitely. The step is to control the virus and ensure that our younger generation, our youth, can be protected from this pandemic. Everyone is playing their part, and if our part involves wearing masks and following SOP’s, it’s not a bad bargain.

Chitral is on its way to get its very own five-star hotel, and it’s going to be soon. The project is going to be huge, and the model shows that it will be world-class. So let’s explore this news together!

Anwar Aman is an overseas Pakistani who has come back to Pakistan to invest back in the country. He is naming the project after his mother ‘Bejaan.’ The word pronounces as ‘be’ and not ‘bay’. And the hotel intends to provide top-notch facilities to its residents. These facilities will include 80 bedrooms, 500 seating hall for guests, and two lavish restaurants. Overall the project will incur $30 million. And it is being built under a public-private partnership.

NTCB goes to the groundbreaking ceremony

The groundbreaking ceremony to signify the start of the project’s construction took place on Wednesday. To take part in it, the Chairman National Tourism Coordination Board (NTCB), Syed Zulfiqar Bukhari, also visited the location. Following the ceremony, the work has already been initiated.

The project is great not just for the tourism industry, for Pakistan’s global image but also the employment sector. The hotel will, at first, lead to employment in construction jobs. After it is constructed, it will lead to jobs that range from housekeeping to managers to promotions to workers on the ground. All in all, it will prove to be an excellent employment opportunity not just for the Pakistanis in Chitral, but whoever chooses to apply.

In the ceremony, Chairman NTCB mentioned that the government has been working to simplify investing. Also, they have been trying to facilitate the private sector into investing in Pakistan’s tourism industry. This project is one of the outcomes of their effort.

NTCB also said that the government has worked out a grand plan to present Pakistan as a brand to the world. Given its current positioning, the project needs to be foolproof and indeed elegant for it to actually work.

Another effort from NTCB and consequently the government is an e-portal for tourism in Pakistan. Through this portal, the country will be able to promote its attractions to a global audience. The portal is yet to launch.
