PSL 2020: PCB Announces Remaining Schedule For The Matches!

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has just announced the remaining schedule for PSL 2020 matches that did not happen earlier in the year.

The COVID pandemic put a pause on a lot of things. It included events, award shows, conferences, and amongst them was Pakistan Super League (PSL). Happening in March, the PSL 2020 witnessed an abrupt stop, and PCB announced that it was going on a hiatus. With four matches still left, no one knew how to progress.

However, now, even though COVID is not entirely gone, but we have reached a point where we have established some precautionary measures against the pandemic. And by getting to this point, we have witnessed the lockdown ending, we see the gradual reopening of schools, and the work-from-home system disappearing as well.

Since the SOPs have been crafted with careful brainstorming, holding the PSL does not seem that dangerous. And hence PCB decided to continue with the four remaining matches, and it kind of makes sense. I mean, they can’t have PSL 2020 games in 2021 now, can they?

PSL 2020: Location and Schedule

So by consulting with the four teams who will be involved, the schedule stands released. According to the schedule, the matches will be held in November. And all of them will take place in Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. Well, they had to do it before December if they were ever going to do it.

Anyway, the schedule stands somewhat like this. The qualifier match and eliminator one will happen on November 14. Multan Sultans vs. Karachi Kings will be in the Qualifier round, whereas Lahore Qalandars v Peshawar Zalmi will be playing the Eliminator 1.

November 15 will witness the game between the loser of Qualifier and the winner of eliminator 1 face to face. It all leads up to the final on November 17.

The PCB position

PCB Chief Executive Wasim Khan stated:

“This announcement puts speculations to bed and provides absolute clarity and ample time for teams to plan and prepare for these crunch matches. It was necessary at this stage to state our intent and lock these dates in the diary in the best interest of the teams and the tournament.

“The hosting of the remaining four HBL Pakistan Super League 2020 matches also endorses Pakistan’s resilience in overcoming difficulties and challenges no matter what nature. PCB is planning to hold its 2020-21 domestic season, which will include several age-group, men and women competitions, as well as home international series against Zimbabwe and South Africa.”

The dates have been decided with mutual consultation, but the timing has not been determined yet. We will keep a lookout for the time, so you keep a lookout on our article. Deal?

Recently, a social user pointed out the unbelievable resemblance between the Pakistani star, Ali Rehman, and the Indian actor Nakuul Mehta.

Some people think that both of them look like the American comedian, actor, and musician, Simon Maxwell Helberg, who appeared as Howard Wolowitz in the famous CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory. Well, surprisingly enough, they are not wrong. The resemblance between the three is astonishing.

Swat Residents Seek Help As Heavy Rains Cause River Swat to Flood

It has been one week since the weather system had hit Karachi, resulting in heavy showers. Overnight, the metropolis changed from being titled ‘The City of Lights’ to ‘The City of Darkness and Endless Rainwater and Misery.’

Not only did several hundred find themselves stranded neck-deep in rainwater, but massive damage was also done to their properties, assets, and the water swept away many lives with it.

The unfortunate residents of Khyali, Charsadda, have also found themselves in a similar situation as heavy rain has resulted in the overflowing of River Swat, leading to massive flooding, endangering the residents.

Back in 2010, a flood torrent with 90,000 cusecs of water had caused widespread damage in Charsadda, causing massive loss of agriculture and properties. Since then, a protective barrier measuring 134 kilometers was built along the riverbank to protect the area.

The embankment can tolerate flood torrent with 180,000 cusecs of water without causing floods in River Swat.

On the other hand, an Irrigation Department official shared that the link bridge at Khyali was closed to traffic as a precautionary measure.

As a result, the traffic flow on the Peshawar-Charsadda road was disturbed, but the motorway was kept open for passing traffic. Furthermore, the official shared that asides Khyali, the Swat River was in high flood at Bahrain, Madyan, and Panjgora.

The flooding excessive has resulted in crop-damages in Tangi, Shabqadar, and Charsadda. The local district administration was put on high-alert in case if the situation were to turn ugly and the worst had to come.

Bajaur, Fayyaz Khan Sherpao, Deputy Commissioner Khar has also directed all personals in all relative government departments to take all precautionary methods required to prepare for flood-related emergencies.

All the government departments must be prepared for any emergency situation being created by the possible flooding to minimize losses and damage to infrastructures in the district, -communique issued by the deputy commissioner.

4 Ways The COVID-19 Outbreak Has Changed Our Shopping Habits

COVID-19 outbreak had forced the world markets to shut down. Even though the global economy seems to come back on track now. Coronavirus has changed consumers’ shopping habits.

According to a survey, restaurants were affected the most due to the shutdown. In the US, 31% of people reported that they ordered takeaway or restaurant delivery online rather than going to eat out as they would have before the pandemic. Additionally, around 74% of US consumers reported having purchased groceries online. While online shopping increased, not all categories were. Luggage, suitcases, and bags shopping declined the most.

Here are some of how COVID-19 has changed our shopping behavior:

1. Increase in online shopping

In March, people started to shift towards online shopping. It was due primarily to stores and malls being shut and the fear of pandemic. Overall, e-commerce has reported having 21% increased in March as compared to the previous year. In a survey conducted by Marketing Week, 41% of people said to have shifted from brick-and-mortar retail to online shopping.

2. Necessities first, please

At the beginning of the shutdown, people shopped for daily necessities online. Toilet papers were the most searched item on Amazon in the second week of March. People viewed and ordered the following categories the most: food, beverage and tobacco, toys and games, and sporting goods. Additionally, people viewed other categories pages as well, such as accessories and clothing, but their order count remained low.

However, people started to browse and buy entertainment items at the end of April. Other categories, including art stuff, pet supplies, and sporting goods, made it to top.

3. Engagement Matters

During the shutdown, consumer engagement has also increased. People leave reviews on products they buy and post questions about them. Review count increased by over 32% as compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, question submission received an increase of about 54%. These stats resent an excellent opportunity for businesses to engage with consumers as it will likely convert to sales.

4. Availability is all we care about

During the pandemic, the availability of products turned out to be a huge issue. Accessibility is the primary concern of about 49% of consumers now. Previously, people cared about quality, price, and brand the most. It is due to product shortages. More than half of the consumers have been reported to face product shortages when ordering products.

 

So, consumer behavior is changing. It is too early for us to it out if the change is going to last, or it will just fade as soon as pandemic does. However, we must take the changing circumstances around consumers into account as people have reported having been experiencing lay-offs and reduced pays. Moreover, anxiety and fear are also essential factors to take into consideration.

Apple To Finally Launch AirTags With iPhone 12 In October

Apple will be finally launching Airtags with iPhone 12 this October, and everyone is too excited.

In the past few releases, Apple has held events in the early days of September. And following the trend, people expected Apple to hold the event for iPhone 12 on 10th September. That couldn’t happen given the COVID consequences. And the date got pushed to somewhere in October (at least that’s what rumors suggest).

The event being conducted online in October will be launching iPhone 12 as well as Watch Series 6. But alongside these, it will also be launching another accessory, AirTags. But do you know what they are?

Remember when you would forget where you put your phone and had to beg people around you to give it a ring? Well, those days are over.  This accessory is kind of like your phone finder. It acts as loss prevention ‘tag’ if you will. It will possibly work with Bluetooth, but I am waiting to see how much of a distance it can find my phone. Wouldn’t that be fun?

Considering Apple has had so many leaks, I just wonder why they are even holding an event. The design? Leaked. The launch date? Leaked. The event? Leaked. And now, even the accessory leaked! But anyway, considering the Airtag rumor lasted almost a year, it’s about time it launched.

Interestingly, these airbags were supposed to be released in the Spring of 2020. But the company is said to have run into some problems, and the launch got delayed.

So, a little about how the tag does the tagging. The tracker available, you can attach it to say, a pet. Imagine trying to fool your cat into coming near you just so you can find your iPhone and it, as always, struts away.

So if you are successful in proving your undivided love for the cat, the tag will help you find your iPhone through ultra-wideband (UWB) technology. It uses radio signals and broadcasts it across the radio spectrum. Through that, the tag can show you the exact distance between the sender and receiver, i.e., the title and the phone. I am buying it (If I can afford it).

BEWARE!

But oh wait, there is one more thing. Code in iOS 13 links the AirTag with Augmented Reality (AR). Upon using the AirTag, AR balloons may appear on hidden items. If you have something top secret (ahem.. ahem), I’d suggest you be careful.

You can find items that you lose a lot. So, for instance, you put the airTag on your keychain. I lose it a lot so that I would do it. And then, when I do lose it again, I can go to Find My app and find the AirTag and, by extension, the keychain. I would love to know what it will cost me to find my keychain. Until then, we will just wait for the event where they launch Airtags with iPhone 12.

7 New Vehicle Safety Standards Finalized For New Cars In Pakistan

According to the Federal Minister for Science and Information Technology Fawad Chaudhry, the government of Pakistan has finalized seven new vehicle safety standard rules.

According to his official statement, “The ministry has informed the car manufacturers to ensure these standards in new cars.”

According to documents available, Pakistan has ratified the United Nations treaty on “Adoption of Harmonized Technical Nations Regulations for Wheeled Vehicles, Equipment and Parts which can be fitted and used on Wheeled Vehicles and the Conditions for Reciprocal Recognition of Approvals Granted based on these UN Regulations, adopted at Geneva on 20 March 1958” reports Profit.

Moreover, the minister, in an interview, shared the new standards that had been set by the government.

These standards were revised after the Ministry of Industries and Production (MoIP) denied its role in inspecting the quality and safety features in local cars in January 2020.

In an interview, the minister shared that the new standards included that the airbags equipped in each vehicle be of high-standard. He added that the brakes should also be of acceptable quality as well as the windscreens.

The companies have to ensure high-quality headlights for a better drive in the night and wipers for a safe drive in the rain, -Minister Fawad Chaudhry

When asked if these new changes will impact the price of the vehicle, Chaudhry shared that the local manufacturers in Pakistan will have to install all the quality parts within the car, given the current rates.

The companies are already charging for these features, but still launching the vehicles without them, -the minister added

Motors Dealers Association has lauded the ministry for their step to improve vehicle standards and safety.

The cars in Pakistan have very high prices comparing to the international market but have zero safety features. The government must implement these standards now because, the local cars have no safety features, – Motors Dealers Association

Moreover, it is essential to highlight here that Pakistan has no regulatory body that is required to monitor the safety standards of the locally produced units.

When MoIP denied their role in inspecting the vehicles, it also added that the Engineering Development Board (EDB) is also not responsible as its not its relevant department. The ministry further clarified that the EDB can only verify certain aspects. They include:

  • Assembling/manufacturing of auto parts under the SRO 655(1)/2006
  • Assembling/manufacturing of vehicles under the SRO 656(1)/2006

Furthermore, EDB is only responsible for verifying the imported completely knocked down (CKD) units under the SRO.

The monsoon spell that hit Karachi last week shook metropolitans to the core. From people losing their lives to helplessly seeing their cars and houses drown, from power shutdowns to water contamination, Karachiites have been through a great deal of trauma and misery lately.

Be it the low daily wagers, the middle-class professionals and businessmen, or the elite class from posh areas like DHA; everyone faced their fair share of challenges. People started calling out the authorities on Social Media platforms, urging them to take action and put an end to their sufferings. #KarachiRains trended on Twitter for days, highlighting the disastrous effects of rain, hoping for the government to step in and finally take charge. However, not much could be achieved.

Yesterday, on September 1, residents of Clifton and DHA stormed the Cantonment Board Clifton’s office, demanding the resignation of incompetent officials. Infuriated over water contamination and accumulation on roads and in their houses, a huge crowd gathered and protested outside the office.

However, today, on September 2, twitter is trending with the ‘DHACares’ hashtag. DHA Karachi has finally stepped in and has addressed the grievances and concerns of the residents. They held a meeting to devise pragmatic strategies to fix the mess.

However, some were skeptical of the actions that are already taken and that will be taken by the board shortly.

Others, however, held the board accountable and continued questioning the competency of DHA and CBC. Who is answerable for the loss encountered by Karachiites at the hands of these incompetent powerful elites? This is one of the many questions that lurk over our heads.

The financial hub of the country plunged in rainwater remained unaddressed for days. This puts a question mark on the competency and integrity of the authorities. Exactly how much damage will it take to remove the blindfold off their eyes?

Anyhow, the authorities have finally broken their silence on the matter. They have stepped in to address the problems and obstacles that the residents of DHA have encountered over the course of five days. The residents have been assured that the matter is now being taken care of, and swift actions will be taken, especially for those whose houses are still submerged in rainwater and sewerage.

Although this seems to be a ray of hope for the residents, the question ‘why did it take DHA so long to finally start caring’ remains unanswered and is probably meant to remain unanswered forever.

The famous YouTuber Zaid Ali and his wife, Yumna, took their YouTube followers and fans on a tour of their strikingly classy house via their vlog.

On August 31, 2020, Zaid Ali uploaded a vlog on his YouTube channel ZaidAliT Vlogs, showing his house off to his followers. After a lot of hard work and efforts, “this entire process has taken three years,” Zaid said.

As you enter, the first thing that holds your gaze is a beautiful calligraphic painting of a Surah that translates, “Which one of your Lord’s favors will you deny.” According to Zaid, the Surah is a reminder for them to be grateful to Allah for everything, at all times.

Next up is their adorably designed bathroom. It was recently painted pink, and a beautiful painting adorns its wall.

Next in line is the portion of their house that nobody has ever seen before, as claimed by the young couple – their bedroom.

The entire bedroom celebrates a mid-century modern look. The couple used plenty of natural hues and earthy shades such as brown, beige, white, and grey to give their bedroom a fresh, classy look. To up the game further, they added a little bit of pink for contrast. And not to forget, Yumna’s favorite thing in the room – the pompous grass, placed gracefully on the side table in a vase. Although it costs them $120, it looks chic, having a very natural element to it. They have also placed a treadmill in their room, but hardly ever use it.

A beautifully decorated section of the house awaits as we move towards the living room. The wall is graced with two phenomenal abstract paintings paired with lovely wooden frames. Yumna has given a lot of attention to details and has adorned the area with hand-painted books and vases in natural colors. This portion also enjoys the same soothing feel as their bedroom.

Moving opposite to the sideboard, we enter the kitchen. A typical kitchen BUT with a specially decorated red wall, embellished with memorable pictures and frames and, of course, some cute lights. This particular yet fun portion of the kitchen makes this area of the house stand out.

Proceeding towards the balcony now. This is our most favorite part of the house. Adorably furnished with a dining table, a balcony bar to work at, and a pink carpet. They also have some palettes with pink and purple cushions, some plants, and candles that complement to the calm and peaceful feel of the balcony.

For us, the highlight of the balcony is the mini theatre where Zaid and Yumna watch movies together. What a beautiful sight!

Lastly, Zaid’s favorite part of the apartment – his gaming room. This room has a wall contrasted and designed exclusively by the young couple themselves. It follows the grey theme of the apartment. Zaid has also placed a grey sofa with blue pillows. On the table is a framed quote that says, “If you can dream it, you can achieve it” to motivate him to bring his dreams to reality.
And last but not the least, his custom-built PC, which is an absolute monster.

So on August 20th, Lay’s posted an Instagram image showing four new flavors inspired by four different countries. They mentioned that if any one of these four countries was in your travel plans, you could say them. And maybe, just maybe, Lay’s would send that flavor your way.

These flavors included Mexico, Germany, Thailand, and Greece.

Lime Flavor or more like Mexico?

In between the Pacific Ocean, the Caribbean Sea, and the Gulf of Mexico, Mexico reminds one of that seawater smell. And what do you take when lounging at sea? Tea, please, with a drop of lemon in it!

Okay, yes, it’s not tea, but you get the drift. So that’s what the Mexico flavor stands for. Lime and Seasalt.

Next up is Greece. The country is known for being expensive and personally speaking, rightfully so. I mean, they have that mythological, historical background. Skywell Automobile To Invest $50m In Pakistan To Launch Electric Buses

Skywell Automobile, the Chinese company working with Daewoo Express to bring electric busses to Pakistan, will reportedly be investing $50mn within the country.

This news was announced by none other than Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry.

Reportedly, the minister told a private news channel that Skywell Automobile would start production in phase 2 after they’ve invested the disclosed amount.

Just last week, Skywell Automobiles China and Daewoo Express Pakistan signed an agreement to allow a fruitful partnership to commence between the two.

During the occasion, the minister shared that the money will help the economy, create employment, and encourage other companies to invest in Pakistan:

This will not only going to give a boost to our economy but will also generate massive employment and investment opportunities in the country

Earlier, Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry took it to his official Twitter account to announce that Pakistan will welcome electric busses on its roads by the end of 2020.

Chaudhry also shared that the electric busses are a strategic alliance agreement between Daewoo Express and Skywell Automobile, China.

The federal minister, in the tweet, also mentions that the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, has yet again fulfilled another promise made by him to the public. The security of taking Pakistan down a progressive road.

The minister also shared that when Pakistan introduces 5G technology, there will be many businesses that will no longer be required.

During the ceremony, the minister also talked about the prestigious Ruet-e-Hilal Committee head Mufti Munib-ur-Rehman. He shared that the moon would not alter its course based on what he or Mufti Rehman says.

He also made it a point that Pakistan is performing better than ever when it comes to exporting goods. “Today, we are making our own masks and sanitizers in Pakistan,” he shared. Demand for mangos had also exceeded the initial goal by 45,000 tonnes, which is excellent news for the country.

Electric Vehicle Policy In Pakistan

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) had granted its approval for the Electric Vehicle (EV) policy for two and 3-wheelers as well as heavy commercial vehicles in mid-June.

The policy was drafted and proposed by the Ministry of Industries & Production after consultations from stakeholders, including the Engineering Development Board (EDB), Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Climate Change (MoCC), and others.

The EV policy was presented by MoCC and was approved earlier this year, but due to objections raised by MoIP, EDB, and other stakeholders, it was not implemented and was revised.

In April, during a meeting, it was then decided that the EV policy will be implemented for 2-wheelers (bikes) and 3-wheelers (rickshaws) to satisfy both the MoCC and the MoIP. On the other hand, it was decided that the policy for 4-wheelers (cars) would be implemented later on.

Amidst the Karachi Rains, something else trended as well. The news that the dating app Tinder stops working in Pakistan was all over Twitter. The dating app allowed people to meet up, date, and some even ended up getting married to their matches.

How it works is people can right swipe on the profiles they like. If the opposite party does the same, well, the conversation begins.

Considering we recently had to undergo a PubG ban and rumors of the TikTok ban never died, Pakistanis jumped to the same conclusion when Tinder stopped working. PTA has not released any official statement as of yet, but Pakistanis were quick with their speculations.

But more than commenting on the rumor, Pakistanis were making fun of the (questionable?) gentry found there. Because we all know Tinder was not being used the way it was supposed to in Pakistan. And that is what is reflected in the tweets.

Let’s have a look, shall we?

Karachi Rains: 5 Days Gone, Karachiites Are Still Crying For Help!

In the past week, Karachi faced torrential rains that disturbed the entire system of the city. While somewhere Karachi Rains caused Prados to fall in the fast-flowing sewerage water, other areas witnessed houses drowning in 4.5 ft water.

Twitter trended with the Karachi Rains hashtag. With urban flooding in Karachi, the Karachiites had to suffer unexplainable trauma. Now, even after five days, the public is still suffering, and they are crying for help in hopes someone would listen.

Electricity suffered the most. Considering so many places were underwater, and the presence of electricity could fatally injure many, electricity was switched off. For many many hours, Karachi was without electricity. But as the water started clearing on its own, the electricity was restored. Surjani Town, however, is still without it, and it has been 12 days.

Kharadar

In Kharadar, there is no difference between rainwater and the sewerage line. If only the water were cleaner, it would look like a scene handpicked from Venice.  Unfortunately, however, the scene of Kharadar had waste littered on the sides. One could only imagine the smell that the residents must be suffering from.

And where the water was removed, or it disappeared on its own, it left in its wake a pile of sewerage. The muddy area where one could already not take a stroll is now reeking.

And who will talk about the under-privileged? Near Korangi Fishery, around 200 people have become homeless, and the water has restricted them to small patches of land.

On 1st September, though, the cleaning works have begun. While the city is underwater, CBC has started cleaning the signboards…

But what can we do or say when even our dead are not peaceful. A scene from a graveyard shows the destruction that Karachi Rains have caused.

PM Imran Khan tweeted his support for the Karaciites. He said:

“My govt is fully cognizant of the suffering of our people in the wake of the heavy rains, especially the people of Karachi. I am personally monitoring the relief & rescue operations & am in constant contact with Chairman NDMA & Governor Sindh for regular updates.”

Hopefully, now that the signboards are clearing up, the water from the rest of Karachi will follow suit. But we need to remember draining water is not the only issue. After that, the sewerage that has traveled with water it also needs cleaning up. The overall maintenance is the need of today so that the next rainy season will be a blessing and not a curse.

It’s time to find out whether or not men are better at multitasking!

According to CNN, the research was conducted by two university psychologists in Germany and published in the journal PLOS One. It proved that when given the most common forms of multitasking, men and women of similar age and physical and cognitive abilities almost performed equally.

Here’s how the research was conducted:

Ninety-six men and women were asked to complete simple sets of tasks that were combined to show the different ways people typically multitask. Some people perform two jobs at once; sometimes, they start a second task before finishing the first one. Sometimes, they keep switching the tasks back and forth. Often, the two jobs require two very different sets of cognitive demands.

What did the authors conclude?

“Multitasking resulted in substantial performance costs across all experimental conditions without a single significant gender difference in any of these ten measures, even when controlling for gender differences in underlying cognitive abilities.”

Furthermore, they said,

“Thus, our results do not confirm the widespread stereotype that women are better at multitasking than men at least in the popular sequential and concurrent multitasking settings used in the present study.”

But here’s a twist! The research also concluded that gender has nothing to do with it because multitasking, in general, hurts performances in both cases.

The researchers note that some research has found gender differences in both multitasking and, therefore, the cognitive abilities required to do it. For example, studies have found women to possess a foothold on multitasking but men to maintain, say, better spatial reasoning abilities.

However, a new study argues that the research process best compares apples-to-apples, the abilities of men and women, and the conditions under which they usually multitask.

After Esra Bilgiç, another Ertuğrul Actor, Engin Sultan, is coming to Pakistan and signing with a Pakistani company. This time it is the Blue World City.

Turkish drama fan following that began from Ishq e Mamnoon never really faded away. The fan-following went through various phases, though. Sometimes it was Ishq e Mamnoon, other times, it was Fatima Gul, and sometimes it was Manahil & Khalil. Currently, Ertugrul is all the rage. With the drama dubbed in Urdu and aired on PTV, it gathered quite some viewers.

Seeing that some Pakistani brands invited Esra Bilgiç. People did like it, but some did not encourage the idea of bringing foreign actors. They believed that Pakistani actors should get the chance and not some foreigner. Remember Yasir Hussain, anyone…
