Government Creates 1100 Jobs Under CPEC But At What Cost?

Unemployment has been an issue in Pakistan for a long time now. There is a huge discrepancy between what is supplied and what is demanded. Moreover, now unemployment is at an all-time high as all corporations lay off their employees in order to preserve losses.

At a time like this, said the news is like manna from the heavens! The government has announced the availability of 1100 jobs under CPEC. But, what’s the catch?

CPEC Is Making Waves

Chairman of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Authority, Asim Bajwa, recently made a huge announcement. Bajwa announced that over 1100 jobs will be created across different categories at Thar Block-I.

The mine is none other than the $1.9 billion integrated coal mine and power project situated in Tharparkar.

According to Chairman CPEC, local residents will be given preference. In other words, the authorities don’t want to exploit the area as is the norm. Residents will be preferred in the selection on the basis of their qualifications.

More About The Mine

The Thar coalfield stretches over 9,000 sq. km and has an estimated 175 billion tons of coal reserves. These characteristics make it the 7th biggest coalfield in the world.

The Thar Block-I project holds immense significance in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a key part of the much bigger Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

Once operational, the project will supply 6.8 million tons of lignite, soft brownish coal, annually to two 660 MWs power plants. One of the power plants will be completed in August 2022 while the other will start in 2023.

Why Are We Going Backwards?

Truth be told, CPEC’s coal power plant and Pakistan’s happiness over it is disappointing to say the least. At a time when all the countries in the world are going coal-free and making huge, innovative developments to mitigate climate change’s effects, we’re amping up our coal production!

Coal releases CO2 in the air which is a greenhouse gas that makes the Earth warmer.

Why have the rains of Karachi broken a 90-year old record? It’s because of climate change and this is just the beginning. If, at the very beginning, we have an entire city going into a state of emergency, can we really afford the impending disasters?

The government taking pride in the Billion Tree Tsunami project while exploiting huge coal mines is like adding fuel to the fire but also purchasing a fire extinguisher to put on the side. 

China’s Strategic Moves

China is the world’s largest coal consumer. The superpower recently decided to amplify the development work on the Thar Block-I project after a trade war initiated with Australia.

The Australian Prime Minister’s call for an independent investigation into the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan in late December, last year, has severed the tie between the two nations. In this regard, 500 workers of Shanghai Electric Power recently reached Pakistan to resume work on the Thar Block-I project.

Karachi has been afflicted by possibly the worst case of urban flooding. The once vibrant and electric metropolitan hub is now submerged in murky waters with destruction all around. 

The city should be declared to be in a state of emergency but it’s not. However, for your own safety follow these precautions according to your state.

What To Do Before A Flood

These precautions are for when the government or weather authorities have issued a flood warning. For instance, if Karachi residents had been warned of an incoming flood, here’s what the best course of action would be:

1. Prepare an emergency kit that is portable and light-weight to carry. Have medical supplies in it that can be needed.

2. Elevate your electronics, furniture and other prized possessions in the house that can be damaged. Setting up make-shift foundations around the house atop which things can be put will be useful.

3. If possible, shift to the higher floor of your house or go to a place where you’ll be higher up.

4. Know where you can evacuate from if the flood is too strong and make sure that exit is operational at all times.

What To Do During A Flood

In this stage, the danger is upon you which is why it is imperative to act quickly and efficiently. Here are measures to follow if you are in the middle of a food:

1. Avoid entering flooded water. Six inches of water can actually trip you and the current can be strong enough to take you along. The water can also be contaminated with gasoline or sewerage, exposing you to a host of health risks.

2. Be far, far away from any place where there can be an electrical current.

3. Avoid rushing water and move towards still spots if you already are in the water.

4. Have a long object in hand with which you can check the ground ahead to make sure it is sturdy before you take a step.

5. If you are in your car, drive away from flooded areas. Two feet of water can start to direct your car itself which can be extremely dangerous. Abandon your car if possible since if the water starts seeping in the car doors can get stuck too.

What To Do After A Flood

Picking up the pieces after can be extremely distressing. The damage can also be unexpected, here’s how you can manage:

  1. Avoid using tap water, it can be contaminated. 

2. Wait for official confirmation before going back.

3. Avoid areas that still have flooded water because they could be contaminated or have an electrical charge.

4. Do not turn lights on immediately. Walk around and see if you smell gas, often the source of gas can be disturbed.

5. If your home has a wooden structure, air it out and get it dried as soon as possible. Wooden structures do not withstand water for long.

5. Wear protective clothing when cleaning the water.

Besides that, at all stages be it before, during or after, don’t forget to be compassionate. Don’t forget the stray animals and pets, they only have you around them for help. They too can be electrocuted, drown or fall in holes.

Karachi rains and urban flooding has scared even those whose houses are miraculously safe up til now in the city. While they are safe, their prayers go out to those suffering in this weather. Witnessing the people suffering on news channels, they often talk about who is providing shelter to Karachiites.

In one such conversation I had with my father, he told me about a similar experience from his childhood. He mentioned that when there were extreme rains or floods in Sindh, the government would arrange public schools as shelters for the affected.

Once again, it’s time for everyone to help the affected. And thankfully, we have seen organizations get active and play their part.

1. Sheikh Abdul Ghaffar Kabab House

Sheikh Abdul Ghaffar Kabab House is a restaurant in Karachi. They are located in Tariq Road. In a recent post on Facebook, they announced opening their doors for the public providing free shelter and food.

In their post, they mentioned that all the shelter seekers will be given bunkababs, roll parathas and drinking water. So, if anyone you know is nearby this restaurant and wants help, please direct him/her to the place. They shared two contact number so feel free to pass it on.

2. JDC

JDC is another organization that is actively sending food for those without food. They are making fresh food and requesting everyone to send them locations for affected people. In a twitter video the face of JDC Foundation said, “We are already sending foo to many areas but keep informing us about more.” Celebrities are retweeting such videos as well so keep an eye out. The video also mentions their helpline number to convey your message.

3. Imambargahs all over Karachi 

Above 250 imambargahs have opened their doors for everyone seeking shelter. You don’t have to know any contact numbers. Just open Google maps and look up the nearest Imambargah. Or look up the list provided in the post and seek shelter. You will readily find food and shelter.

Karachiites Unite To Rescue Each Other & It Is Beautiful!

In the past few days, Karachi has seen quite some tragedies due to the torrential rains. While some are stranded because they cannot get to their homes due to the fast-flowing water on streets, some have lost their houses to landslide or flooding. But here is where Karachiites restore our faith in humanity.

Upon seeing the fellow citizens suffer from no food and drinkable water in their flooded houses, the Karachiites are coming to their rescue. They are opening up places for shelter and providing food where possible, be it to someone confined to their offices for more than 24 hours or someone looking helpless on the street.

Not only are we acknowledging their effort but also conveying this information to anyone who needs their help.

There is one post circulating on the internet regarding imambargahs. Shi’i sect has opened its Imambargahs for the public regardless of sectarian associations. These posts mention various specific Imambargahs to seek shelter at.

Moreover, another event surfaced where a group of Karachiites was stranded in front of Millennium Mall. Due to a lot of water, they could not go in any direction. By 8 pm, they were hungry and helpless. And just then, a fellow Karachiite gave them free burgers.

Helping the helpers

Furthermore, Karachiites also proved that if even police need help, they won’t shy away. Because it is not just the police who have to rescue us if they need us, we will be there for them. And thus, as the police van was right in the middle of the flooded street with fast-flowing water, the public at the footpath ensured the safety of the present policemen. Have a look:

There were also instances where either the basements or the ground floors flooded with a foot deep water. It is a hazardous situation because, in the presence of electrical appliances, there was a possibility of electrocution as well. And at places, wall, fell making their houses unsafe. In these scary times, people were readily available to help out strangers for water pumping or re-construction.

A twitter user with the handle @nisshhoo shared her own experience of driving in Karachi streets. According to her, she returned home by 3 in the morning. But she was grateful for Karachiites making her feel safe and rescuing her wherever she needed. The thread she shared on Twitter indeed made one belief in humanity once again.

There are indeed many more instances where Karachiites have risen to the occasion, but helping in these torrential rains indeed deserves an applaud.

This Guy Travelled To All The Landmarks On Pakistani Currency Notes

How many times in our day to day lives do we see the landmarks at the back of a Rupee note? Probably 10s, but we don’t give it much thought in the daily hustle-bustle. 

However, Emad Parachi is not your regular Pakistani. He was so intrigued by the landmarks behind each rupee note that he traveled to each!

How Did He Come Up With The Idea

Emad told media outlets that he had always been fascinated with the picture of Mohenjodaro behind the Rs 20 note. On a family vacation, they somehow ended up there, which further piqued his interest. 

He asked the guide where the particular site was where the picture was taken and behold; he came face to face with what covers the 20 note.

Talking about how well the single post did on social media, an idea popped in his head that was soon to go viral. He thought of going to the landmark behind each note. Paracha’s thinking that “it’d be a great excuse to explore Pakistan” is what brought the “Currency Project” into existence.

Around The Country

Over the next four years, the Currency Project gained momentum. Paracha hiked, flew, and rode around to all the iconic landmarks that grace our currency notes.

He reveals that traveling to several of these locations was convenient. Most times, they became family vacations. However, K2 and Ziarat were the tough ones due to the limited accessibility in the areas.

K2’s Majestic Sights

“The last one, and by far the toughest of them all by a million miles, came last summer when I was finally able to go on a trek to K2’s base camp – something I had planned for three summers before it finally happened,” said Emaad. Paracha was also a student at the University of Toronto all the while, balancing his traveling dreams and student life.

“That was a once (and only once) in a lifetime trip. It was nearly a two week, 300 km trek, which involved sleeping on one of the world’s largest glaciers at night, in negative degree weather, with rocks poking into your back. We used to walk 20-30 km in the sun for up to 12 hours a day, but the only thing driving me was the picture,” he reported to a media outlet with heightened emotions!

When Paracha finally got to K2, many locals told that there was a rain forecast, and it would be cloudy the next few days. He and his fellows kept postponing the departure because what was the point of the trek if they couldn’t see the mountain?

Supreme Court Issues New Law For Second Marriage

Wednesday was very significant with regard to the idea of second marriage. All those uncles making second wife jokes in front of their wives, your not-so-secret wish just got a little more difficult. Supreme Court issued a ruling basically saying if a man marries for the second time without the first wife’s permission, well, pay the mehr IMMEDIATELY.

A Background into the Case

This ruling came as a result of Jameel-Sajida case. Muhammad Jameel, unlike all those brown uncles acted on his second wife wish but failed to take permission from first wife, Sajida Bibi. Sajida Bibi went to court and filed a suit. Now that is one strong woman who knows she has rights. The Peshawar High Court (PHC) gave ruling in favour of Sajida Bibi. Thus ensued a law fight where Jameel went to Supreme Court and filed petition.

Unfortunate for Jameel though, Supreme Court disposed the appeal and stood by PHC.

“The judgment of the learned Single Bench of Peshawar High Court for immediate payment of dower (5 Tolas of gold) is quite in accordance with law.”

The ruling, hence, remained. Jameel, and any other man who chooses to marry without first wife’s permission has to pay the latter the dower immediately. Interestingly, he has to pay her even if the amount was forgiven sometime earlier.

A Look into the Supreme Court Ruling

The ruling was a five page order by the Supreme Court. Supreme Court Judge Justice Sayyed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi wrote the order while Justice Umar Ata Bandial headed the two member bench that heard the case.

Moreover, the ruling also mentions the compulsory nature of either the first wife’s permission or the permission from the arbitration council. The violation of the ruling will lead to complications.

Because can’t say no to second marriage can we…

The ruling clarifies however that it has not put any restrictions on the idea of second marriage. However, through this ruling they have indeed safeguarded the first wife’s interest because in a country like Pakistan where majority women are financially dependent on their husbands, there have been incidents where men become negligent in the responsibility towards their first wives.

The judgement in the case noted that the provision of Section 6 of the Muslim Family Laws Ordinance is in consonance with the injunctions of Islam. It said:

“It is now abundantly clear that the entire amount of dower fixed at the time of marriage whether prompt or deferred is immediately payable on account of second marriage. Law has not placed any restriction to contract second marriage, rather it only relates to seeking permission before entering into second marriage in order to regulate the structure of society as a whole”.

But note that this ruling does not completely eliminate the problem regarding financial dependency of the first wives.

Indian media’s latest story is a prime example of when a figment of your imagination is materialized. Perhaps they were out of the news, or maybe they like Mehwish Hayat a lot, regardless, their creativity knows no bounds.

Did you know Mehwish Hayat was in a relationship with Dawood Ibrahim? We didn’t either, but it’s true as Indian media has alleged!

A Jog Of Memory

Dawood Ibrahim is a mob-leader and a terrorist. He also graces India’s most-wanted list with a price of Rs.25 million being offered for him. Having fled from India, he has been traced irregularly to be either in Pakistan or UAE.

However, Indian media recently had a field day when they alleged that he had been living in Karachi. Moreover, he is in a relationship with Mehwish Hayat. The news mainly started circulating through Zee News. However, after further inquiry, it appeared that there was no credible source of information for this.

Hayat has always been vocal and unapologetic about what she wants to say. She took to her Twitter account and slammed Indian media for their “gutter journalism.” Yikes!

According to Hayat, this can be a malicious attempt to prevent her from speaking up further about the siege India has laid on Kashmir. She believes that they attempted to spread controversial rumors about her so that she gets distracted. But they don’t know who they messed with.

Hayat has emphatically said that she won’t stop calling out Bollywood for its hypocrisy.

Electric Busses To Hit The Roads By Year End: Fawad Chaudry

Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry took it to his official Twitter account to announce that Pakistan will welcome electric busses on its roads by the end of 2020.

Chaudhry also shared that the electric busses are a strategic alliance agreement between Daewoo Express and Skywell Automobile, China.

The federal minister, in the tweet, also mentions that the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan has yet again fulfilled another promise made by him to the public. The security of taking Pakistan down a progressive road.

The busses will first launch in major cities including Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Multan, and even Faisalabad, and will eventually make their way into other cities. Moreover, separate busses for women is also something that is currently in the pipeline.

From this year, electric buses will start running in Pakistan, and in three years, these buses will start being completely manufactured in Pakistan.

Moreover, during the exciting ceremony to commemorate the new alliance, the federal minister shared that a close eye will be kept on all technical innovation technological inventions.

The minister also shared that when Pakistan introduces 5G technology, there will be many businesses that will no longer be required.

During the ceremony, the minister also talked about the prestigious Ruet-e-Hilal Committee head Mufti Munib-ur-Rehman. He shared that the moon would not alter its course based on what he or Mufti Rehman says.

He also made it a point that Pakistan is performing better than ever when it comes to exporting goods. “Today, we are making our own masks and sanitizers in Pakistan,” he shared. Demand for mangos had also exceeded the initial goal by 45,000 tonnes, which is excellent news for the country.

Electric Vehicle Policy In Pakistan

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) had granted its approval for the Electric Vehicle (EV) policy for two and 3-wheelers as well as heavy commercial vehicles in mid-June.

The policy was drafted and proposed by the Ministry of Industries & Production after consultations from stakeholders, including the Engineering Development Board (EDB), Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Climate Change (MoCC), and others.

The EV policy was presented by MoCC and was approved earlier this year, but due to objections raised by MoIP, EDB, and other stakeholders, it was not implemented and was revised.

In April, during a meeting, it was then decided that the EV policy will be implemented for 2-wheelers (bikes) and 3-wheelers (rickshaws) to satisfy both the MoCC and the MoIP. On the other hand, it was decided that the policy for 4-wheelers (cars) would be implemented later on.

The federal minister, Fawad Chaudhry, had also extended a special invite to Tesla CEO Elon Musk to build his next factory in Pakistan.

The minister used the social media platform Twitter to invite the entrepreneur. In a tweet replying to news about how Musk plans on building half a million EVs in its future factory outside Berlin, he wrote:

Dear @ElonMusk your next destination may be Pak, 68% of the world population lives within 3.5 hours flight radius from Islamabad, we offer ten years zero tax facility and custom free import for factory setup, no other country may offer, plus we are worlds 3rd biggest freelance software exports.

Okay, so now there is almost no use of the front camera. This smartphone can flex. And this feature is the one I referred to when I said, ‘Say bye-bye to bad selfie experience.’ We all know back camera selfies are always tremendous and secretly, we have all taken selfies from back camera passing it on as front camera pictures. No? Was it just me? Oh well…

Some other features

The phone is 5G compatible regardless of where it’s available. This is important to mention since original had 5G compatiblity but not for all regions. The phone also has a 4,500mAh battery which is nice and can last you quite a long time. But here is the catch. If you use the large screen more because yoiu like the tablet feel, the battery might not even carry the load of a full day. So be on standby with the charger.

With the release date confirmed to be September 1st, at least in the US, we will know much more about the phone. And you and I both know that the user review is much more dedicated about any phone, so let’s wait until then to see if it’s as unique as it looks.

Medical Students Stage Protest at PMDC To Resolve Admission Criteria

Following COVID protective measures, the Pakistani government canceled exams. While this was done to stop the coronavirus spread, the FSC graduates are facing a new problem.  The aspiring medical students are finding it hard to enroll with the existing criteria in medical colleges.

The medical students have hence launched the protest at PMDC under Mustafavi Students Movement’s (MSM) support. They are staged outside Pakistan Medical and Dental Council, and they demand that the council should resolve the enrollment issue for the aspiring students.

Understanding the Issue

The backstory here is that the existing criteria have a smaller weightage of ETEA exams. The aspirants are judged based on ETEA exams and the FSC exam results. But considering, FSC exams were canceled, and everyone passed, that component does not help in distinguishing the candidates. The ETEA exams are thus the deciding factor. The MSM and the medical students are demanding that ETEA weightage be increased to at least 70% in the admission criteria making it fair and square.

The protestors’ stance

A student taking part in the protest said, “PMDC must delay ETEA exams, and the criteria of admission for medical students must be revised.”

Another student mentioned:

“Unless the criteria are revised, and test date is not extended, we all will keep protesting at all levels. Our demands must be addressed.”

The protest gained an audience on Twitter as well. The hashtag #StudentsProtestAtPMDC started trending.

Moreover, the MSM has introduced its demands formally too. They uploaded it with the caption, highlighting that these students are an asset to the nation.

The demands on Twitter read:

“Due to the Corona epidemic, fresh students got marks in FSC without any effort. In view of these circumstances, the test weightage should be increased in the admission of medical college.”

People started taking part virtually on Twitter as well. Some even started adding other demands too.

The twitter user with the handle @Abdulla51494821 highlighted how the students have been protesting for the past two months to no avail. He accused that the PMDC has been ignoring the demands. The tweet goes on to mention students’ worry now that the ETEA exam is almost here.

3. Calling for Reinforcements

Saadzeb7 called for reinforcements. He reminded students all over the country that it is time to stand united because if they get a win, it will affect everybody.

If the authorities determine the demands as just, maybe they will give in. But if the needs negatively impact the system or most of the student body, they might not give in. Regardless, we hope the result of the protest is something that is for everybody’s betterment.

If you are a k-pop fan, you might have come across Korean remakes of American shows. But how many of you know that there are American remakes of Korean Shows out there. Yes, there are! So just imagine how good they would be that other countries are making their remakes. So today, I bring for you 5 American shows that were highly inspired by Korean ones. 1. The Good Doctor

So the news of this remake went viral. Therefore, you might know about this one. The Good Doctor was a South Korean show about an autistic person becoming a surgeon, and a great one at that. The Korean show had 20 episodes and a singular season, as is familiar with South Korean dramas. However, the American remake began airing in 2017 and is currently airing the second season. Since American shows are known for having multiple seasons, the story will deviate from the original eventually.

Hawaii Five-0’s executive producer Daniel Dae Kim bought the Good Doctor’s rights and brought it to America. Joo Won played the autistic doctor in the original show. Freddie Highmore plays that character for the American version.

2. Somewhere Between

Somewhere Between is based on God’s Gift: 14 Days. The story is about a mother whose daughter is murdered. The mother gets the opportunity to go back in time and change the gruesome fate. It is a fascinating story, and the Korean version was indeed very significant. But the American adaptation couldn’t come at par with the original, and the episodes did not reach even 2 million viewers. The channel canceled the show after ten episodes. But since the Korean show starred Lee Bo-Young, its success was non-questionable.

3. The Masked Singer

American’s adapted another Korean show with the name of The King of Mask Singer. It features celebrities such as actors or singers or sports stars and puts them in costumes. The contestants are supposed to show off their singing skills in 3 rounds. If a singer loses the competition, he/she loses the mask as well. In the American version, there are 12 contestants, and each season has or will have ten episodes.

4. YooHoo & Friends 

YooHoo & Friends was adapted from a Korean show as well. The show is about environmental protection. The story goes somewhat like this: Mother Nature convinces Father Time to turn five humans into animals. The reason is that they will learn how their actions are negatively impacting nature. These animals are now on a quest to change back into humans by collecting gemstones. But to do that, they will have to make choices in favor of the environment.

5. Bye Bye Bye

Bye, Bye Bye is the adaptation of a Korean film Sunny. The Korean movie was among the highest-grossing films. Its American version, Bye Bye Bye is an HBO dramedy. The show will follow female friends uniting after 20 years post-high-school. HartBeat Productions with CJ Entertainment presented the idea to Universal Studios.

Health Experts Warn Punjab Of Second Wave Of COVID-19!

Pakistan’s COVID-19 control strategy was lauded internationally as a success story. We saw a terrible peak, and we lost several thousand precious lives, but we emerged stronger.

As the world begins adjusting to the new normal, things started going back to routine in Pakistan, too, following the declining statistics. However, it seems that we have perhaps left our worries too far behind.

Smart Decisions

A senior health official intimated that the Punjab government had decided to impose micro-smart lockdown in 17 localities/sites of Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Gujranwala. Of them, 12 sites had been identified in Lahore, three in Rawalpindi, and two in Gujranwala.

The official added that 19,538 people of the 17 sites in Lahore would face some sorts of restrictions. Additionally, 947 in Rawalpindi and 53 people in Gujranwala would also. 

In the related development, the Punjab government carried out a smart sampling of 59,815 people all over the province after the Eidul Azha. Of them, 95 tested positive for the coronavirus, which was unfortunate as it shows the virus’ transmission ratio to be still as strong as ever.

A Minister’s Brother Lost

Federal Interior Minister retired Brig Ijaz Shah’s brother, Pir Tariq Shah lost his life to coronavirus. He breathed his last breath on Monday,  at the Pakistan Institute of Kidney and Liver Institute.

Tariq Shah had tested positive for the virus ten days ago, and he was put on a ventilator soon since his health got critical. The deceased was a senior lawyer and president of the Nankana District Bar Association.

Almost a month back, Tariq’s younger brother Pir Hassan Shah also had died at the Mayo Hospital, Lahore. There was a controversy over the cause of the death of Hassan Shah. Kanye West is usually found in every other controversy making him more controversial than any other celeb. The rapper-cum-businessman has found himself in heaps of trouble from time to time.

In the most recent event, Kanye is in trouble for upsetting the global Muslim community after disrespecting Islam.

Tagged at £180, his brand Yeezy (footwear) has a set of trainers which are named after the Islamic angels of judgment and death – Israfil and Asriel.

Reportedly, the Yeezy Boost 350 V2 Israfil is already being stocked by major brand Adidas while the Yeezy Boost 350 V2 Asriel is expected to release next month.

After this blew up on social media, many Muslims around the world called out West and accused him of mocking the religion. Users are also saying that the sports company and singer must make amends.

West’s wife Kim Kardashian also faced similar wrath after she named her skin-tight suits ‘Kimonos’ a term used in the Japanese culture to refer to long and loose traditional Japanese robes worn by Japanese women.

Brands Disrespecting Islam

Kanye West is not the first to hurt the sentiments of the Muslim community. There have been other incidents in the past when brands had to issue public apologies.

Nike

In January 2019, Muslims signed a petition against Nike for disrespecting God’s name. The petition asked the brand to pull back their Air Max sneakers as it had the name Allah written in Arabic under the sole.

Saiqa Noreen, the customer who discovered the symbol and the one who started the petition called out the company and termed their action ‘disrespectful’.

UFC lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov accused EA Sports UFC Game of disrespecting Islam. Nurmagomedov posted on Instagram footage of his avatar from the just-released EA Sports UFC 2 video game.

His avatar in the game, after defeating Bruce Banner casually touches his right hand to his head then his chest, followed by his left shoulder and his right. Being a Muslim, Nurmagomedov called out the makers of the game for allowing his character to depict the Christian cross.

Shein

Chinese brand Shein also found themselves in a tough situation. Shein was found selling Muslim prayer mats (Jai Namaz) religious symbols such as the Holy Kaaba, which is very sacred for Muslims, like rugs.

On the other hand, the Chinese clothing brand was also accused of cultural appropriation as they had been using white models to sell sleepwear that imitated cultural clothing.

In return, the retailer has issued an official statement in which it has offered its most profound apology to the Muslim community and has shared how the brand is willing to take responsibility so that this sort of unintentional mistake doesn’t happen again.

Amazon was spotted selling toilet covers adorned with Islamic iconography. The seats deeply hurt the community and after several complaints were removed. Unfortunately, a number of derogatory products are still available to purchase on the site.
