Here are 7 Brands That Made Cringe-Worthy choices in the ’90s.

1. E-Spirit

It looks like E-Spirit was promoting a look people donned after a ‘Hangover’!

2. Gap

This Paisley jacket could be the one that would be a favorite amongst Grandma’s instead of the targeted audience.

3. Nike

Nike decided to bring in the ‘Banana Boat’ shoe, and we’re not a big fan of the ‘Hawaiian shirts for your feet’ campaign.

4. Yasmin Le Bon

So now we know where the inspiration behind ‘The Mask’s’ outfit came from!

5. Cross Colours

This is how color blocking was done in the ’90s! On a side note, if you’ve ever wondered what a rainbow would look like on a person, this is it.

5 Effective Ways You Should Use To Deal With Online Trolls

Online trolls
Image Source: Noteworthy - The Journal Blog

Online trolls are are a gift that keeps on giving in the worst of ways. If you have a public account or have handled any public account ever, you know what a troll is. If you don’t then chances are you’ll find out pretty soon. Online trolls are a community of social media users who thrive on hate and negativity. Keep reading to find out how you can weed them out!

1. Name and Shame!

The truth about online trolls

Many people who get trolled often don’t resort to this. Not because of some holier-than-thou attitude but because they sympathise. However, simply ignoring them just gives them more leeway to ruin your community and reputation.

Trolls rely on their anonymity. 90% of the time anyone who will be trolling will be doing so through a fake account. Or, they won’t like to be announced. By sharing their names with your followers and boycotting them, they’ll think twice before they leave a nasty comment next time.

2. Devise A Commenting Policy

Devise a policy to ensure that your comments section is safe and encouraging for your community. If there’s a troll in your comments insulting and degrading the commenters, they will refrain from commenting the next time. Have a proper policy that shows what is acceptable in your comments and not.

This can ensure that you can simply delete their comments when they leave one or you can even sue them.

3. Fight Back With Facts

Online trolls effects

Trolls often rely on creating misinformation or sparking controversies. This can hugely damage your reputation and also deter people away from your account. Nobody wants to become a part of a toxic space. If you have encountered a troll who is doing this, fight back with facts! Address any rumour or misinformation and this will quieten them and improve your image.

4. Listen To Them

hate of online trolls

If you’re a business, most time trolls are past customers who had a bad experience with you. Sure there will be wise ones who won’t go out of their way for revenge, but there will be others too. In that case, listen to them.

Make them feel that they are heard and that you are willing to compensate them for their bad experience.  However, be wary because this means fake customers can also hop on board for some compensation. Deal with it smartly!

5. Resort to Humour

Lastly, you always have the option of resorting to good ol’ humour. Most trolls on public platforms love to exaggerate and use metaphors and every big word they can think of. Pakistanis especially have a distinctive love for the word “pathetic”. Regardless, if a troll is being rude and insensitive, strike back with humour or sarcasm

This is an effective strategy because the troll gets snubbed but you can always brush it off by saying it was funny!

5 Things You Should Avoid Saying To A Car Salesperson!

5 Things You Should Avoid Saying To A Car Salesperson!
PC: Techno FAQ

Buying a new car, even if it’s pre-loved, is an exhilarating feeling! You walk into a showroom, gaze around at all the options, and then, you spot it!

Your eyes get fixed on a particular model, which makes you think almost instantly, ‘that’s the one for me.’

This is where you end up making the first mistake! Never reveal to the car salesperson which car you are interested in on the spot.

Let them show you around, talk to you about what kind of car you are looking for, and then after asking them to show your 2-3 cars, tell them that you’ve taken your pick.

If you show your interest too early, you can lose a good deal at hand. The salesperson is trained to convince you to buy what you want for a price that you won’t refuse, even if you had to pay extra.

Before you go in, and after you go inside the dealership. There are a couple of things you need to keep in mind. Just like you visit a restaurant or spa after a detailed review of the food and services, the showroom should be the same.

5 Things You Should Avoid Telling A Car Salesperson!

1. “I Really Love This Car.”

As mentioned above, saying how much you are interested in a car can cost you a pretty good deal. After all, no one would mind paying a little extra for something that intrigues them. Stay calm, don’t show emotions, and if you think the price is a bit high, don’t hesitate to say that if they don’t make a good deal, you’ll leave.

2. “My Credit Isn’t Good.”

Red flag! No matter what your credit rating looks like, don’t be afraid to grab the best interest rate you can find. Admitting that your credit rating is not up to mark will make the dealership think you will settle for a higher interest rate, and that will not work in your favor.

3. ” I Don’t Know Much About Cars.”

car research
PC: Chicago Tribune

Even if you don’t know much, read before you walk into the dealership. Read about the cars on their website, do some additional work. This will show the salesperson you are confident, knowledgeable, and that you know what deal you want to walk away with by day-end. It will also help you understand if you need the extra services they try to convince you to buy.

4. “I’m Paying In Cash.”

Don’t let the dealer know you can afford to make the pay-off in cash. It might convince him to give you a better deal if he thinks you may not have enough amount on you.

5. ” I Need To Buy One Today.”

car deal
PC: USNews

If you show it to them that your need to purchase a vehicle is highly desperate, it could be due to emergencies, they will take advantage.  You are most likely going to end up paying more than what the original deal would have costed.

Be sure to do your homework before you walk through those doors!

Good luck!

Giving Back To The Nation: Let’s Celebrate Together

Independence Day is not merely an occasion to display nationalism, watch fireworks, enjoy the lights and decorations of the city. Still, it is also a time to reflect on what the country has given us – be it an identity, its scenic beauty, a homeland to call our own or its diversity and hospitality.

This August 14, we encourage all of you to consider the ways you can give back to your nation. We live in a country full of abundance that is made up of diverse communities. We all need to do our part to wear our green and white colors proudly.

Giving back is a form of getting to know your community and its people. With a common purpose for the betterment of your community, whether it’s a cleaning drive, planting a tree, or teaching a student in your neighborhood, all contribute to broadening your horizon and helps improve the environment.

Giving Back To The Nation: Let’s Celebrate Together

You can host a tree plantation drive in your neighborhood. Not just wear green but leave greenery for all future generations to come.

Working closely with the community helps expand your network of friends while teaching you to be patient, kind, and resilient. Thus, contributing to your physical and mental well-being as you devote time to others.

Independence Day is an ideal time to remember the work and sacrifice of our veterans and serving officers. Pick up your PTCL landline and call the veterans around you to thank them for their immense service to the country and hear truly inspiring stories.

We all love to celebrate and decorate our homes and streets, but picking up the trash left behind can be a daunting task and not for many – so the next morning, roll up your sleeves, wear your mask and gloves and clear the garbage from your surroundings.

There are ways to help others who are in need, and one such act is to donate blood and give the gift of life. You can also grant things you no longer use or clothes you no longer need to someone who does.

Are you an honors student? Are you good at fixing electronics? Are you a good carpenter? Help students with their assignments, college applications, etc. Help fix your neighbor’s broken blender or drawer. Share your skills with those in your community, and one day, someone will do the same for you.

Another contribution you can make is to support small businesses by shopping for your decorations, baked goods, or other supplies, from street vendors, home-run companies, and local stores around you. Help bring a smile to a child’s face by sharing souvenirs such as Pakistan flags and badges with them, so they too can parade their green and white colors and be proud Pakistanis.

Giving back to the community doesn’t always mean writing a cheque or giving money, by sharing inspirational stories and creating awareness through facts and the history of Pakistan, you can spread positivity through your social media accounts.

Regardless of how you spend this day, remember that we are going through a tough situation as the pandemic is still very much prevalent. So, don’t forget to wash your hands often, wear a mask, maintain social distancing, and avoid crowded places.

What makes Independence Day unique and special is that it unites all Pakistanis under one banner, regardless of age, race, ethnicity, or religion. So, let’s pledge to honor our country by making a difference or creating a positive impact

8 Patriotic Movies To Watch This 14th August

Back in school, 14th August was accompanied by festivities, food, fun, games, tributes, and songs in the name of our beloved country. Attendance was a must but with no studying involved and a lot of singing of ‘Jeevay Pakistan’ to be done!

Now that we’re past the age for mandatory school celebrations, what to do on the next Independence Day?

Watch movies, of course! And by film, we mean die-hard patriotic films that can revive the love for our homeland! Plus, you will have a good time while you are at it.

Here’s a list of some of the more nation-loving, patriotic movies that you could potentially enjoy on your independence day weekend. Happy watching!

1. Khuda Kay Liye

KKL
Released eight years ago, Khuda Ke Liye was no less than a firecracker, creating an uproar at the box-office upon its release. Shoaib Mansoor harvested $2.51 million with the revolutionary movie of its time, featuring the heroes Fawad Khan, Shaan, and the starlet Imaan Ali.

Essentially, the movie breaks stereotypes regarding Pakistan’s culture and teachings of Islam. It is a searing tale of what has been happening to the people of Pakistani after the brutal attacks of 9/11 in the U.S.

2. Bedari

An old-time Pakistani classic to watch this 14th August is Bedari, a black and white film released in 1957. It was considered as one of the most successful films of that year, and a lot of the patriotic songs from the movie are still remembered till date.

The highlight of the movie was most certainly the music, composed by Fateh Ali Khan. Some of the popular songs include ‘Aao Bachho Sair Karain,’ ‘Chalo Chalen Maan Sanon Ke Gaon Mein,’ and ‘Any Quaid-e-Azam, Tera Ehsan Hai Ehsan.’

3. Waar

waar

Shaan’s much popular Waar can be added to this list as well. Centered on a retired army officer played by the actor, the movie focuses on the fight against terrorism in Pakistan.

It is rife with over- the- top political intrigue and thrill, and despite its indulgence in overused stereotypes in Pakistani media, it manages to be quite entertaining and a worthy watch!

4. Maalik

A political thriller released in 2016, Maalik is a project by Ashir Azeem, who stars in the movie as well. The plot revolves around a retired SSG officer and his anti-corruption crusade against those in power. It also attempts to raise several issues, including a corrupt political system, the Afghan war, and Talibanization.

Inflicted with a plague of controversies, Maalik was banned soon after its release in cinemas. However, those who missed to catch it in cinemas can easily see it online.

5. Operation 021

021

While a lot of disputes surrounded this movie at the time of its release, it is still the first-of-its-kind Pakistani spy action thriller movie, directed by Jami and co-directed by Summer Nicks.

It stars Ayub Khoso as Abdullah, who wants to save his country from corporate warfare after 30 years of war in Afghanistan. Shaan Shahid also stars in this movie playing Kashif Siddiqui, Abdullah’s ally. Together, they struggle to save the two countries from even more upheaval within just 21 hours.

6. Braveheart

bravheart

When one talks about patriotism in movies, Braveheart is one of the Hollywood movies that automatically springs to mind! A historical war epic released in 1995, the film stars Mel Gibson as the 13th Century Scottish warrior, one who led Scotland in the First War of Independence.

The film truly captures the spirit of patriotism and the courage to fight for one’s nation.  Braveheart’s freedom speech by the main character is quite iconic, and the movie was nominated for a total of ten Academy Awards, out of which it won five, including Best Picture.

You can check out the epic speech here!

7. Independence Day

independence day

While a bit on the silly side, full of aliens and ridiculous loopholes, Independence Day is still considered a patriotic film that one must watch. The characters in the tale put aside their differences to unite in the face of adversity for the sake of their country.

The 1996 film was directed by Roland Emmerich and starred Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum as two main characters of an ensemble cast. It follows a group of people after a deadly attack by extraterrestrials, and their struggle to launch a counter-attack with the help of the population on July 4th – America’s Independence Day.

8. 300

300 movie

What else can capture the sometimes fanatical nature of patriotism better than 300’s infamous line: “This. Is. Sparta!” And that too followed by a slow-motion kick to the chest of epic proportions.

At the core of it, it is a war film, though steeped in fantasy, and so captures the spirit of patriotic men who are on a mission to defend their land. Starring Gerard Butler and Lena Headey of Game of Thrones fame, it was directed by Zack Snyder and released in 2007. If nothing else, the movie certainly makes for ridiculously unrealistic eye candy.

Watch some of the best moments of the film here.

Esra Bilgic Has Found Her No. 1 In Pakistan And We Love It

Esra Bilgic

‘I’ve found my No. 1 in Pakistan’ – A single tweet by the beloved Halime Sultan from the famed Turkish drama Dirilis: Ertugrul was enough to break the internet in Pakistan.

While some believed the much-loved Turkish actress, Esra Bilgic found her first love in Pakistan, others were speculating on what she was up to next, after gaining massive popularity thanks to Ertugrul being dubbed in Urdu to be aired on local television.

And lo and behold; her No. 1 in Pakistan turned out to be none other than Jazz Super 4G.

As many had guessed, Esra Bilgic’s mysterious tweet was a teaser leading to her partnership with Pakistan’s leading digital services company, Jazz. A social media post shared a few days later by Esra’s official Instagram handle, featuring the actress donned in Jazz’s signature bright red, confirmed the rest.

Esra Bilgic Has Found Her No. 1 In Pakistan

Undoubtedly, the strategic pairing of Jazz’s tagline #DunyaKoBataaDo with the post’s caption ‘I think it’s time to tell the world’ was quite impressive.

As was expected, social media blew up with multiple responses from people in Pakistan, who seemed to be surprised and mostly happy about the Turkish actress partnering up with one of the biggest brands in Pakistan.

Esra Bilgic Has Found Her No. 1 In Pakistan

Even more impressive was the instantaneous outrage a few local celebrities showcased at brands hiring international talent for their ad campaigns instead of them. While Yasir Hussain, in his typical angst, was the first to lash out virtually, Zhalay Sarhadi, a famous model and actress, closely followed suit.

Esra Bilgic Has Found Her No. 1 In Pakistan

However, as in many cases in the past, we have seen the masses support an influx of foreign celebrities in Pakistani media to highlight the inclusivity we as a nation try to portray, and it was with a sense of pride we noticed similar sentiments this time around as well. The controversial statements given out by the local celebrities caused an uproar on digital media, and many came out to support the Turkish actress and brands. They have collaborated with her to bring Pakistan in a better, more inclusive light.

It didn’t come as a surprise when Zhalay Sarhadi took to Twitter once again to backtrack on her statement and express some newfound solidarity with the Turkish community.

Esra Bilgic Has Found Her No. 1 In Pakistan

There is no doubt that Esra Bilgic working for the Jazz ad campaign has caused quite a stir among the local masses, and thankfully the collective response has been appreciative. The ad itself is an impressive show of graphics, content, and quality production that stimulates all the senses and gives out a general vibe of thrill and inspiration. If you’re a fan of VR games, you wouldn’t be disappointed.

More importantly, the TVC communicates a highly motivational message of striving to achieve ‘greatness’ instead of just settling for what’s ‘good,’ just the way Jazz does with its leading position within the local telecom industry. It’s a communication concept that’s rarely been seen before and works well with the overall brand identity.

Esra’s mysterious ‘I’ve found my No. 1 in Pakistan’ makes perfect sense now, doesn’t it?

Check out the TVC here!

Other than working with Jazz, the actress has also bagged several other projects in Pakistan. She is currently the Brand Ambassador for Q Mobile and will be present at the Pakistan Super League (PSL) as a representative of the Peshawar Zalmi. Furthermore, HELLO! Pakistan did an exclusive interview and cover shoot with Esra Bilgic recently as well.

Esra Bilgic is on the road to becoming a massive name in Pakistan, and her large number of fans here can’t seem to wait for her to visit Pakistan soon finally.

5 Old bazaars of Pakistan That Rekindle Nostalgia

old bazaars

Moving with the world is all well and good, but it should be while preserving your culture. And so with the modernizing cities, we should protect our landmarks that rekindle nostalgia. Therefore, we have listed five old bazaars of Pakistan where you can look into olden times while standing in the 21st century.

1. Qissa Khawani Bazaar – Peshawar

Qissa Khwani Bazaar stands at the heart of Peshawer. Due to the massacre by the British government back in 1930, the British merchants started calling it the “Bazar of Storytellers.” What sustains its essence is that even today, people get together to tell each other stories over a cup of tea. Other than that, Qissa Khawani Bazar is a well-established marketplace, which sells almost all things of daily life.

2. Empress Market – Karachi

Empress Market is located in Sadar, Karachi. This market was constructed when Queen Victoria was the Empress of India. And therefore, the marketplace became known as Empress Market. Even though it is ancient, the marketplace is still known for being very crowded. Karachiites again go shopping there also though Sadar is one of the most congested areas of the city.

Raja Bazaar – Rawalpindi

Raja Bazar is the most ancient marketplace in Rawalpindi, one of the bigger cities of Pakistan. The bazaar is located in the middle of the town. It is known to have a lot of products available at suitable prices for the public. The shops are most famous for wholesale and retailer shops which sell at low prices.

Due to being connected on all sides by other markets, the whole area is always busy with people who either come to shop or to window shop. Mostly when people need to get to Raja Bazar, they take a taxi or the trusty rickshaw to navigate the crushing crowd.

Anarkali – Lahore

Anarkali bazaar of Lahore is one of the oldest marketplaces of Pakistan. The exciting place has a few attributes that make it the bazaar it is today. It is most famous for its mixture of both modern and traditional items like clothes, handicrafts, all traditional jewelry like bangles, and several accessories.

The bazaar has a background story that most people have never heard of. The name of the bazaar was, in fact, initially the name of an unfortunate slave girl locked up after having an affair with the emperor’s son, Saleem. The marketplace has two halves; one is called Old Anarkali, which like its name, shows the old concepts of the culture of Pakistan, and New Anarkali portrays the modern part of Pakistan.

Zainab Market – Karachi

Zainab Market is known to be the most affordable marketplace in the city. One can find almost everything ranging from handicrafts to clothes and jewelry as well, all at affordable prices. Located in the central area of Karachi, the shopkeepers keep up the traditional with the mainstream. They sell conventional brands alongside popular ones. Haggling for price at a 24/7 market, this marketplace portrays Pakistani tradition and culture in the true essence.

Experience the British Raj seeped into Empress Market’s architecture or the storytelling nature of the Peshawaris and the British merchants infused in the market streets. Remember that a slave girl who died for love or enjoy customers bargaining for the price, these old bazaars undoubtedly provide a plethora of stories. Just visit these five old bazaars and dive into nostalgia.

This Man Pays A Beautiful Tribute To Minorities Who Have Made Pakistan Proud

pakistan minorities

Minorities of Pakistan have given the country all they have yet seldom does the country accept them back. Pakistan has a tumultuous relationship with its minorities, yet when they come together, there’s no force quite like it.

Appreciation Where It’s Due

A man had made it his responsibility to appreciate the minorities for their accomplishments and to also bring recognition to those who are long forgotten.

Check Out The Thread!

Minority Rights

Our founder, Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah’s speech on minorities remains legendary to this day. His quote beginning with “You are free to go to…” is the only thing that comes to mind when defending them in our country. However, unfortunately, as the country developed and moved from one constitution to next, the rights of minorities got lost.

Did you know that according to article 20 of our constitution, the preservation of public order is the responsibility of minorities? This means if they are doing something that offends the broader public, then instead of the people being encouraged to be more tolerant, the minorities must stop doing the said thing.

Mandir Banega?

A mandir, a religious site for Hindus, is becoming the topic of much hate, prejudice, and controversy. In the past, many tragic incidents have taken place where people have burnt down the Mandirs in Pakistan. Moreover, the construction of Mandir’s have also been halted because of the differences.

We’re Taking Baby Steps

Minorities are not only ones that the white in our flag signifies, but It also refers to those who are smaller in power. In this manner, transgender people are also a minority. In the latest developments, GCU has allocated individual seats to transgender people, which is a fantastic initiative.

On the other hand, we have also decided to return a Sikh Gurdwara to the Sikh community. Since partition this was made into a girl’s school, now it’ll be converted to a religious site again. These small pieces of good news are what inspire hope in us and give us the will to keep fighting!

Durex Pakistan’s Latest DVC Has Got Everyone Talking

durex pakistan's

After Mathira’s Josh, another contraceptive’s ad gets trending. Durex Pakistan’s latest DVC is the talk of the town and rightfully so. However, instead of sexualizing the woman to portray the meaning behind the ad, Durex DVC takes a different approach.

Telling the story

The DVC tells a story. It weaves an outline that does not hurt the sentiments of the Pakistani community since the people here take the culture somewhat seriously. Anyway, the story begins with a view of a crime scene. The police have surrounded a house that has witnessed no interaction with the outside world. The cinematography involved reminds the viewers of the American crime dramas. It is comic as well because the story shows an ‘operational’ CCTV camera at the door of the house. (Ummm, this is no Hollywood). Forget the operational part; we do not have CCTV’s like this in Pakistan.

Moreover, the innovative part of the ad is the product placement in the DVC. As the detective begins to backtrack the events at the house, he finds a Daraz delivery package. Following the footsteps of Hollywood’s surreality, the detective asks the techie to scan the object. And there they find the purpose the DVC is marketing for. The story then hints an understanding of the detective’s face as to why no one has stepped out of the house in a week.

A Look at the DVC

https://youtu.be/m9Kl_BAufoQ

What makes it Stand Apart

The reason this contraceptive ad makes it stand apart is the fact that it takes a newer approach compared to the past ads. Instead of making a woman making provocative sounds or switching off the light of a room, this ad takes on a cinematic approach. And at the end of the day, entertainment matters. Because well, the users know what they are doing when they are buying a product [wink ;)]

And it stands different from the past track record based on storytelling too. For instance, in the past, the ads used to have an informational approach. The taglines such as ‘bacchey do hi acchey’ or the ads by brands such as Saathi employed this technique. While it worked for the 90s audience, today’s audience seeks entertaining ads that keep them hooked to their smartphones’ screens.

Be it Durex Pakistan’s contraceptive, Mathira’s Josh, or ‘bacchey do hi acchey,’ they are all different brands for the same type of product. So, what else can we say other than, be entertained and have a positive impact on Pakistan’s population, isn’t that right?

If you’re one of those, we have good news for you! This is a list of local brands that have fantastic makeup products made just for you.

1. Beautify By Amna

It’s the fact that their products are suitable for the weather we experience in Pakistan so your face won’t melt before you get to your car. Check out their loose setting powder, which is a cult favorite.

3. Nabila’s

Nabila’s was famously known as a salon name. The woman behind it all has won several awards year after year and has gained international recognition too. So naturally, you can be sure that the products or services provided by the brand will be great.

Their ZERO makeup palettes need no introduction. The compact palettes with a concealer, foundation, blush and lip tint which serve the best coverage for the girl on the go. However, there have been several complaints about the shades being darker than shown. If you’re looking to make a purchase, go for one lighter.

4. Sapphire

The acclaimed clothing brand has recently launched a cosmetics line. Several bloggers have been sent PR packages, and they’ve put out good reviews. The range includes a foundation, an eyeliner, several lipsticks (among others). While the quality may be great, there have been several problems with the line that must be shed light upon.

For instance, the foundation range is absurd. The lightest colour is white and the darkest merely suitable for tan skin. However, if you fall within the range, shop away!

5. Massarat Misbah

Massarat Misbah’s makeup line is also a dream. Her Silk Foundation is one of the top-selling items from the list. It has a satin matte finish and suits normal to dry skin types leaving a very natural look. Its quality is definitely up to the mark, and if you match your shade correctly, this is better than any international one.

Keeping in mind the Asian skin tone and climatic conditions of Pakistan, Masarrat has done a brilliant job on her cosmetics.

6. J. Dot

Junaid Jamshed’s namesake brand also has a cosmetics line. The line features several types of face powders, lipsticks, blushes, and eyeliners. JJ has always had great quality in clothing, and while we may not have tried the makeup line, we’re sure it’s excellent!

CIE Grade Prediction System Leaves O/A Level Students Devastated

CIE Examinations

The majority of schools in Pakistan are associated with CIE (Cambridge International Examinations). This is a British-based examination procedure that awards the final grades of O and A levels to the students. So what went wrong this year?

CIE’s Coronavirus Complications

Much of this year featured conflicting statements by the organization. First, they remarked that students who had to give exams in June will now give in November. Then they proceeded to cancel November. Later, they announced the policy that students did not know would end up in this.

CIE announced that schools would send “predicted grades” to their students. CIE will view them alongside transcripts of each student. Ultimately, a final grade will be awarded, which they think the student would have gotten had they sat for an exam.

CIE Examinations

What Went Wrong?

Although Cambridge examinations – more often than not – yield unfair results, this time was different. This time the unfairness was taken to an unimaginable level. Students who had the capability of getting A’s and A*’s were handed grades ranging from C-E.

A single reason can also not be decided upon in terms of why they were graded like that because there are too many different stories. Students who had A’s throughout their transcript also ended up in the same boat as those who did not have A’s.

CIE Examinations

While O level students’ future was hampered by this unfair grading system too, their situation is still not as bad. For A level students, these unimaginable grades mean that they can not go to any university of their choice now. They will either have to take a gap year and re-take exams, or they would have to settle for less.

Check  Out The Twitter Reactions!

Colonial Hangover

This has been a topic of discussion quite a few times, but never has it been more clear. Pakistan’s colonial hangover, this year, has resulted in the majority of its up and coming youth to be dealt with unfairly. Their futures are on the line now.

Many are saying that as long as we stick to the British as the supreme and as the authority, we will be treated this way. Why can’t Pakistan establish an education system that could provide for our examinations and method of grading? Well, we can’t because our education budget allocation gets reduced each year.

For the foreseeable future, CIE will continue to affect the mental health of so many children, and there is no remedy for it.

23 Sub-Campuses Of Universities Have Been Declared Illegal By Punjab

23 sub campuses

The Higher Education Department (HED) Punjab recently unauthorized 23 sub-campuses of seven private sector universities. He also ordered them to stop enrolling more students.

These 23 sub-campuses were operating without Punjab Governor’s approval, who is the patron of the universities. Therefore, the next step would be HED taking legal action.

If the universities fail to get the governor’s approval, the next phase will be the closure of these sub-campuses. And getting the approval might be difficult. HED sources conveyed that the sub-campuses did not meet the minimum academic, management, and legal requirements set by the Punjab government.

Unauthorized sub-campuses

At the top of the list is The University of Central Punjab (UCP), a project of Punjab Group of Colleges. The eight unauthorized sub-campuses include:

  1. Rawalpindi,
  2. Gujranwala,
  3. Gujrat,
  4. Faisalabad,
  5. Multan,
  6. Sialkot,
  7. Sargodha and
  8. Bahawalpur.

The 4 of the 23 unauthorized sub-campuses belong to The Superior College. They are located at:

  1. Faisalabad,
  2. Sargodha,
  3. Khanpur
  4. and Bahawalpur.

The National College of Business Administration and Economics (NCBA&E) has four sub-campuses:

  1. Gujrat,
  2. Sialkot,
  3. Bahawalpur
  4. and Rahim Yar Khan.

The University of Lahore (UoL) has three unauthorized sub-campuses:

  1. Islamabad,
  2. Gujrat
  3. and Pakpattan.

Qarshi University has two unauthorized sub-campuses:

  1. Lahore at Canal Road
  2. and Ferozepur Road.

Meanwhile, The University of Management & Technology (UMT) and the Hajvery University both have one unauthorized sub-campuses situated in Sialkot and Sheikhupura, respectively.

HED’s Stand

An anonymous senior HED official said that some of the unauthorized sub-campuses were offering unlawful and illegal academic programmes without accreditation, and that was an offense of a severe nature. He continued to say that a few of those very programmes were being offered beyond statutory approvals of the Patron (Governor Punjab).

The anonymous official in talks with a publication said:

“This shortage of teaching faculty has a direct bearing on the prescribed benchmarks of quality of education and student-teacher ratio.”

For instance, in one of UoL’s sub-campuses, there were only 32 Ph.D. faculty against the requirement of 44. He also said that the accreditation process about the sub-committee of the Accreditation Committee was also compromised.

In the past, a similar situation came up concerning private and public universities in Punjab. HED officials told the select committee formed to deal with the current situation that the significant casualties than were transparency, suitability, quality, and legality. And all that at the cost of the enrolled students’ future.

Secretary HED Punjab, Sajid Zafar Daal, said their first step was to ensure that universities immediately stop the intake of students. He added, “We are arranging a meeting of the Accreditation Committee early to assess these sub-campuses and then recommend legal actions against them.”

PC: DieselStation

Many automotive enthusiasts are head-over-heels for Japanese brands. There are plenty of reasons for this. Although Yamaha officially entered Pakistan roughly five years ago in the motorbike markets, it has slowly and steadily become a people’s favorite.

Reportedly, Japanese brands compared to many local ones offer cars and bikes that are much better in performance, build-quality, and have more features to offer for a price-tag which is not too different than a local car.

5. Yamaha YB125Z DX Price In Pakistan

Reportedly, the Yamaha YB125Z DX is priced at Rs. 163,500, which is Rs. 12,500 more than the regular YBZ-125, but is also a decent Rs. 24,400 less than its biggest rival in the market. Given the features, and how it has a very good price point leverage in the market, the Yamaha can prove to be a successful variant.

A poet, A teacher, and a Lyricist

You might know him as the lyricist of ‘M Bole to’ from the Bollywood movie ‘Munna Bhai MBBS.’

His career as a poet spanned over 50 years. And in that time, he produced many poems. Although all of them were great, we have compiled some of the best works of the poet. Let’s pay tribute to him by remembering his work.

Through his poetry, he tackled significant issues of society. For instance, in one of his couplets, he talked about how destruction is destruction, regardless of what gets destroyed. The couplet read:

Evian France Savagely Responds To Coors Light For Copying Their Logo!

evian france

Coors Light allegedly copied the Evian France logo, and Evian France is not having it. You can see that through the savage response by the brand on Twitter.

Coors Light, a well-known beer brand, recently released a revamped look for its beer. Just last week, they unveiled a modern look for its packaging and assured the fanbase on Twitter that its still the “same mountain cold refreshment.” The brand’s new look has mountain iconography and red wordmarks at the base, and underlining the logo is gray text.

Evian France, a spring water brand, is also linked to the mountains. The brand goes as far as saying:

“We can’t take credit for our water: A long 15-year journey through the French Alps gives it naturally occurring electrolytes and minerals and that distinctive cool, crisp taste. We sustainably collect what nature gives us at the source so you can enjoy natural spring water anytime, anywhere.”

And as expected, they were not happy with Coor Light’s new identity. They took to twitter how they felt. The French brand for water said, “Beautiful!” But that was sarcastic, and you know it by the question that followed, “Should we send you our graphical guidelines next time?”

Someone’s pissed…

The fanbase of Evian France had a lot to say as well.

1. The ultimate fan

The ultimate fan who is always ready to riot. ‘We, the french, are gonna riot.’

It reminds me of the k-pop fandom, but I will keep my Korean inclinations to myself for now.

2. The sarcastic one

This fan drops all chills. Starting cutely, the fan makes a sharp turn and even goes as far as tagging Evian. Deep breath @Dimilis!

3. The political fan

Now now, no need to get all political. But I guess when you target someone, be ready for their fan attack as well. The political fan gets offended politically. He announces taking back Louisiana if Coors Light does not change the logo back.

4. The subtle sarcasm

The subtle sarcasm is always the best. I mean, imagine some saying, “Please sell this in France. It will be the best way to drink beer while everybody thinking it’s water😝.” Even I, with no french linkage, am laughing hard.”

Humor aside, it is not like the two bottles will be indiscernible if placed side by side. Fairly recently, Evian has also modified its look. They have removed almost all labels. The new bottles are colorless, do not contain the brand’s logo of the mountain, and are transparent. The singular trace on the bottle is the pink shade drawing the brand name.

So while it’s not hurting Evian’s business, it surely is hurting Evian’s sentiments. Anyway, when events like these happen with well-known brands copying each other, one can only wonder, are we down on creativity?

5 International Brands Shutting Down Stores Due To The Pandemic

5 international brands

Even where COVID hit hard, social distancing and lockdown have controlled the situation. However, COVID has not just ruined people’s health; it has also gravely injured the business world. The effects have been such that significant brands are shutting off their stores to limit their losses. We have compiled a list of 5 international brands that are closing their stores due to the pandemic.

1. Starbucks 400 stores (over 18 months)

On June 10, Starbucks, the popular coffee chain, announced it would close almost 400 company-owned stores over 18 months within the US. Additionally, it will also close 200 stores in Canada. However, the closures will be offset by the development of new stores, bringing the total number of Starbucks stores up by a net 300 locations by the end of the 2020 fiscal year.

2. Victoria’s Secret: 250 stores

Victoria’s Secret outlet at Herald Square in Manhattan has remained closed for four months. The accrued monthly rent is up by $937,000. The retailer’s parent company told the landlord, “It will be years before retail has even a chance of returning to New York City in its pre-COVID form.”

Although the landlord’s lawyer Stephen Meister said:

“SL Green and landlords across the city have worked with retailers large and small to protect jobs and New York’s tax base during this crisis. But Victoria’s Secret is a multibillion-dollar, publicly-traded conglomerate exploiting the situation in an attempt to avoid paying its contractual rent obligations.”

3. Dunkin Donuts

The brand that is not just known for its donuts but also its sandwiches for breakfast will be closing 450 stores. It reported the ending of the partnership with gas station chains on July 6. Consequently, all the stores located in Speedway gas stations will be shutting down. One of the brand’s representatives said that these are stored located in smaller locations and have limited menus. They are supposed to shift the focus ta their standalone restaurants now.

4. McDonald’s: roughly 200 restaurants

McDonald’s announced, on July 28, that it will be closing 200 stores this year. 50% of these stores on the list are within Walmart stores. According to the brand, these outlets generate meager sales. These openings, however, will offset the closures. 400 of the 950 new stores opening worldwide will be in China.

5. Burger King – 100 stores

Restaurant Brands International will be closing hundreds of units from Burger King, Tim Hortons, and Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen. And hence, the brand expects no net unit growth at least this year.

The company said:

“All of this, as we’ve said in the past, is aimed at improving the profitability of our franchisees and our system. These restaurants that we close were in good trade areas that have evolved, and they’re no longer in the right trade area. We’re reopening new stores with better unit economics, better image, better experience, better technology.”

5 international brands

These are five international brands among many that are closing off. We should also mention that Zara has also announced closing 1,000 stores worldwide over two years. And since closing off stores means laying off workers, we can only wonder how far fetched COVID’s effects will be.
