India and Pakistan are set to reignite their rivalry in the T20 World Cup 2024 on June 9 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. Historically, Pakistan and India matches are most anticipated in every tournament. And it is no different this time around.
However, there is controversy surrounding the ticket prices for the much-awaited clash between neighbouring countries. As previously reported, ticket prices have soared, particularly through scalpers, with the cheapest ticket standing at a whopping $1,320.
Recently, former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi highlighted the skyrocketing ticket prices for this high-stakes match, with some seats going for as much as $20,000. Modi criticized the ICC, suggesting that their focus is more on profits than promoting the game.
The ticket prices on the ICC website range from $300 (now sold out) to $10,000.
“Shocked to learn that ICC is selling tickets for Diamond Club at $20000 per seat for the #indvspak WC game. The WC in the US is for game expansion & fan engagement, not a means to make profits on gate collections. $2750 for a ticket It’s just #notcricket #intlcouncilofcrooks,” Modi posted.
The demand for India-Pakistan matches has always been sky-high, often driving ticket prices to unprecedented levels. Since 2013, political tensions have prevented any bilateral series between these two nations, heightening the excitement whenever they clash in ICC events.
This historic rivalry, coupled with the rarity of their encounters, ensures every match is a blockbuster. The ICC often places these teams in the same group at major tournaments to maximize viewership and attendance.
The soaring ticket prices for their T20 World Cup match are a testament to the immense popularity and demand for this iconic fixture.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is the wealthiest cricket board globally, boasting extensive resources and top-tier facilities. Despite this, the BCCI is currently struggling to find a suitable successor to Rahul Dravid, who has announced that he will not continue as head coach after the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.
Search for the Next Head Coach
The BCCI has opened applications for the head coach of Team India, with a deadline of May 27. The role promises a three-and-a-half-year tenure, which includes leading the team through significant tournaments like the Champions Trophy in 2025 and the ODI World Cup in 2027.
Former Indian batter VVS Laxman was at one point a front-runner for the role, however, BCCI showed an inclination towards foreign coaches recently and made a few offers too.
High-Profile Rejections
As mentioned above, BCCI contacted some high-profile foreign coaches, however, most of them have declined the offer to coach the Indian team:
Ricky Ponting: The former Australian captain confirmed that he was approached for the role but had to decline due to existing commitments with the Delhi Capitals in the IPL, Washington Freedom in the MLC, and his strategic role with Hobart Hurricanes in the BBL.
Andy Flower: The former Zimbabwe captain and current head coach of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL stated he has no interest in the position. Flower expressed his satisfaction with his current roles in franchise cricket, which offer him intriguing and enjoyable work without the exhaustive demands of a national team coach.
Justin Langer: The former Australian coach, currently with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the IPL, also declined the opportunity, citing the exhausting nature of the job. Langer emphasized that the all-encompassing role of a national team coach was too demanding after his experience with the Australian team.
Stephen Fleming: Although not explicitly confirmed, reports suggest that the former New Zealand captain is also not interested, mainly due to the extensive year-round commitment required by the Indian job.
Reason For Rejection
A significant factor behind these refusals is the preference for franchise leagues over national team roles. Franchise cricket offers several advantages:
Short-term Engagements: Coaches only need to be involved for a few weeks before and during the tournament, allowing them to manage multiple commitments and enjoy longer off-seasons.
Less Pressure: The environment in franchise leagues is generally less intense compared to the high expectations and scrutiny associated with coaching a national team.
Higher Compensation with Flexibility: Although national coaching positions like India’s are well-compensated, franchise leagues often offer competitive pay with the added benefit of flexibility and less travel burden.
Work-Life Balance: National team coaches often have minimal vacation time and are required to relocate, impacting their personal and family lives. Franchise roles, conversely, allow for a better work-life balance and the ability to remain in one’s home country for more extended periods.
Conclusion
The reluctance of high-profile foreign coaches to take up the role of head coach of India highlights broader trends in modern cricket.
The appeal of franchise leagues is increasingly overshadowing traditional international coaching roles, offering coaches a more balanced, less demanding career path with substantial financial rewards.
We have previously seen the same trend shifting in players as some players retired from international cricket to play more franchise cricket.
This shift indicates a growing preference for the flexibility and lifestyle afforded by franchise cricket, which is reshaping the landscape of professional cricket coaching.
In summary, while the BCCI provides unparalleled resources and prestige, the demanding nature of the job, combined with the growing allure of franchise cricket, has made it challenging to attract top foreign talent for the national team’s head coach position.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality of telecom services and protecting consumer rights. In April 2024 alone, PTA received a staggering 16,000+ complaints from telecom consumers against different telecom operators and cellular operators! Let’s have a closer look into the details of this significant issue and see how PTA addressed them.
The Complaint Landscape Broken Down
Let’s face it, dealing with telecom issues can be frustrating. Whether it’s dropped calls, slow internet, or billing disputes, these problems can disrupt our daily lives. But who do you turn to when things go wrong?
In Pakistan, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) acts as a watchdog, ensuring fair practices and addressing consumer grievances. They might get more hate than love, but they have outperformed themselves in the past month.
The complaints can be broken down into three main categories:
Problems with Service Quality: These grievances concern the level of service that telecom companies offer.
Illegal Practices: Customers brought to the attention of telecom operators’ unethical or illegal actions.
Issues with Mobile Number Portability (MNP): These complaints deal with problems that arise while transferring phone numbers between carriers.
CMOs unsurprisingly received the most complaints, considering the vast number of cellular mobile users in Pakistan compared to other telecom sectors. Let’s break down the complaints by carrier:
Jazz – 5553 complaints
Ufone – 1910 complaints
Telenor – 2705 complaints
Zong – 5701 complaints
PTA And Its Swift Response
The PTA deserves a round of applause for their impressive complaint handling! Out of the over 16,000 complaints received, a staggering 99% were swiftly resolved. This high resolution rate highlights the PTA’s dedication to ensuring customer satisfaction and holding telecom providers accountable.
Although the PTA’s high resolution rate is praiseworthy, it can always be enhanced in one way or another. Important actions include streamlining the complaint filing procedure, raising public knowledge of what PTA can do for you, and promoting active customer-operator engagement. The high number of complaints might seem alarming, but PTA’s efficiency in resolving them is a positive sign.

Concerns have been expressed by the Pakistan Mobile Phone Manufacturers Association, or PMPMA, regarding the government’s planned new mobile phone tax in the next budget. The industry may encounter difficulties and inconveniences as the government contemplates levying an 18% sales tax on facilities that assemble mobile phones. Let’s examine the specifics and consider this decision’s aftermath.
PMPMA Calls for Commitment
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has been encouraged by the PMPMA, a body that represents mobile phone manufacturers, to uphold the promises the government made to its investors. These pledges concern preserving the current mobile phone tariff arrangements. The association stresses that raising tariffs might have a significant impact on the business, influencing export goals as well as localization initiatives.
The federal government is planning a surprising move: taxing mobile phone assembly facilities on sales at a whopping 18 percent! This decision could significantly disrupt the entire industry.
The 2020 Mobile Device Manufacturing Policy currently exempts phones priced under $350 (roughly PKR 97,492) from the 18% sales tax. However, more expensive models fall under the full tax bracket. Interestingly, around 50% of cellphones used in Pakistan are locally manufactured, with most companies operating within the tax-exempt price range.
Impact Of The Phone Tax
On Localization: Raising tariffs will interfere with the localization timeline and impede the industry’s efforts to become self-sufficient. The goal of the approach is to lessen dependency on imports and promote local assembly. Any detour from this course could impede the expansion of the industry.
On Export Targets: In 2023 alone, Pakistan assembled more than 15 million mobile phones! The export goals could be disrupted by the sudden sales tax. Pakistan’s export earnings mostly stem from the sale of mobile phones, thus any setback can have economic repercussions.
On The People: Consumer costs may go up as a result of higher taxes on cell phones. Since mobile phones are necessary for not only communication, but for businesses and education. Any increase in price could have an impact on accessibility and affordability.
To sum up; how the government decides to tax mobile phones will determine how the business develops in the future. Sustainable development requires balancing demand for money with the expansion of the sector and the well-being of the customer. In order to come up with a solution that works for everyone.

With the world pivoting towards sustainability, EVs are becoming increasingly popular. However, a recent study has raised concerns about their safety, particularly for pedestrians. Find out why electric vehicles are considered more dangerous than their petrol counterparts.
The Sound Of Silence
According to a thorough study of traffic incidents in Britain, hybrid and electric automobiles are more likely than gasoline or diesel vehicles to collide with pedestrians, particularly in metropolitan areas. Electric and hybrid automobiles have double the risk of colliding with pedestrians than fossil fuel-powered cars, according to data gathered from 3 trillion miles of gasoline and diesel car travels and 32 billion miles of battery-powered car travel.
One of the key factors contributing to this increased risk is the lack of noise. EVs are notoriously quiet, particularly at lower speeds where tire and aerodynamic noise is minimal. This silence, while a blessing for noise pollution, turns into a potential hazard for unsuspecting pedestrians who rely on auditory cues to navigate the roads safely.
The Demographics Of Electric Vehicle Drivers
The majority of EV owners are middle-aged, with a sizable percentage of younger, less experienced drivers operating the vehicles, according to their demographic profile. This inexperience combined with EVs’ quiet approach makes for an ideal environment for accidents.
While the study focuses on data from Britain, the implications are global. As Pakistan’s urban centers like Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad see a rise in EV adoption, the findings serve as a cautionary tale. The country’s already chaotic traffic conditions could be further complicated by the addition of these near-silent vehicles.
A Call For Action Against The Electric Menace
The results of the study have prompted a need for action. Policymakers worldwide should consider mandating artificial sound systems for EVs, similar to the requirements in the UK and EU. These devices should emit a sound at slow speeds to alert pedestrians of oncoming electric vehicles.
There’s also a need for public awareness campaigns. Let’s educate pedestrians and drivers alike about the unique risks posed by EVs. In Pakistan, where jaywalking is prevalent and traffic rules are often disregarded, such education could be lifesaving!
As we embrace the green revolution, we must not overlook the safety of our streets. Smart regulations and public awareness must meet the challenge presented by the rise of EVs. We can mitigate the silent threat of EVs, ensuring that the roads of Pakistan—and the world—stay safe for everyone.

Pakistan, May 23, 2024 – TikTok announced significant updates to its Community Guidelines and the introduction of new features aimed at empowering creators and ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for the global community. Effective from May 17, these updates include clearer definitions, new features for understanding policies, and improved tools for monitoring account status.
TikTok has refined its Community Guidelines to provide clearer definitions and more detailed information on policies related to hate speech, health misinformation, and content moderation. These enhancements are designed to improve user understanding and transparency regarding TikTok’s rules and enforcement processes.
To ensure a safer experience on the For You feed, TikTok is implementing new eligibility standards. Creators who repeatedly post content that violates these standards will see their accounts temporarily ineligible for recommendation in the For You feed. Additionally, their content will be less visible in search results. Affected creators will receive notifications and have the opportunity to appeal these decisions.
In an effort to assist creators in understanding TikTok’s rules, the platform is introducing a warning strike system. When a creator violates Community Guidelines for the first time, they will receive a warning that does not count toward their account’s strike tally. Future violations, however, will be tracked and penalized accordingly. TikTok will inform creators of the specific rules they have breached and provide guidance on the appeals process for potential errors.
To further support creators, TikTok is rolling out a new feature called ‘Account Check.’ This tool allows creators to audit their accounts and recent posts, providing a clear overview of their standing on TikTok. ‘Account Check’ will indicate any restrictions on features such as comments or direct messaging due to guideline violations, and highlight content removed or restricted from the For You feed. This feature complements the existing ‘Account status’ page, offering a comprehensive view of a creator’s adherence to platform rules.
Additionally, TikTok is introducing the TikTok Creator Code of Conduct, setting standards for creators participating in TikTok programs, features, events, and campaigns. This code, which will be enforced in the coming weeks, outlines the responsibilities of creators both on and off-platform, ensuring a consistent and positive experience for all participants.
TikTok remains committed to enhancing the safety and experience of its over one billion users worldwide. These updates underscore TikTok’s dedication to supporting its creator community with the tools and information needed to thrive on the platform.
China, the powerhouse of shipbuilding, has unveiled its pièce de résistance—the Greenwater 01, the world’s largest electric container ship. This technological marvel is not only a testament to China’s engineering prowess but also a beacon of hope for a greener, more sustainable future. Let’s have a closer look at the beautiful feat of engineering.
Gargantuan Leap With The Greenwater 01
The Greenwater 01, developed by the China Ocean Shipping Group (Cosco), is a behemoth. At 120 meters long and 24 meters wide, it dwarfs its fossil-fuel-powered counterparts. But its true marvel lies within—a massive battery capacity of 50,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh), expandable to 80,000 kWh if needed. These batteries, housed in containers, can be charged in the harbor or exchanged by crane, ensuring uninterrupted voyages along the Yangtze River.
The Greenwater 01’s electric drive system is expected to save a astonishingly 3,900 kilograms of fuel per 100 nautical miles (185.2 kilometers)! When applied to its usual 965-kilometer route between Shanghai and Nanjing, this translates to over 20,000 tonnes of fuel saved. But the real game-changer ladies and gents? A reduction of 12.4 tonnes of CO2 emissions per trip. Imagine the impact this electric giant has while it shuttles goods along China’s golden waterway.
A Watery Nightmare For The United States
Shockwaves ripple (quite literally) over the Pacific as the Greenwater 01 glides over peacefully through Chinese waters. Once a global leader in shipbuilding, the United States is today finding it difficult to stay up. A startling 46% of the global shipbuilding capacity is accounted for by China. The nightmare? Because China’s shipyards are so innovative, American shipyards are lagging behind. As the Greenwater 01 sets sail, it represents the fall of American shipbuilding and the rise of China.
The Builders Of The Greenwater 01
Beijing’s shipbuilding industry is no longer a mere contender it’s in-fact a global leader! In 2023, China held the top spot across all measures: output, new contracts, and orders-on-hand. With 42.32 million deadweight tonnes (dwt) produced, China’s shipyards accounted for over 50 percent of the world’s shipbuilding output. The Yangtze River, once a historical trade route, now showcases China’s modernization. The Greenwater 01 is a testament to this transformation.
Cosco Shipping, the driving force behind the Greenwater 01, envisions a greener world. This electric container ship serves as a model for environmentally friendly shipping projects. It’s not just about numbers; it’s about setting a precedent. China’s shipbuilding industry is a blueprint for other nations to follow, reducing emissions and embracing sustainability.
As the Greenwater 01 navigates the Yangtze, it carries more than just cargo—it carries hope. Hope for cleaner skies, quieter seas, and a future where innovation meets responsibility. China’s shipbuilding industry is no longer confined to its borders; it’s a global force. And the Greenwater 01? It’s a silent hero, proving that progress need not come at the planet’s expense. 🚢🌎

The Director General of Immigration and Passports, Mustafa Jamal Kazi, has addressed the discrepancy in the policies of the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) and the passport issuing authority regarding married women. The issue revolves around the requirement for a married woman’s passport to bear the name of her husband instead of her father, which has raised concerns about contradictions between government institutions and discrimination against women.
The matter came to light when Khadija Bukhari, a lawyer and petitioner, shared her experience on a private channel.” Bukhari had updated her Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) with Nadra after her marriage, retaining her father’s name, but was told to include her husband’s name when renewing her passport.
Kazi clarified that the passport and Nadra’s records serve different purposes, with the passport being an international document subject to international agreements. He explained that women may face difficulties when travelling with their children if their passport only bears their father’s name, making it challenging to establish their biological relationship if the children’s father is not present.
The DG Passport also acknowledged that modifications will be made to passports to include a section for mentioning the name of the ex-husband in cases of divorce. Additionally, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has formed a committee to address the issue, instructing them to review the concerns and develop a practical solution that prioritizes the convenience and ease of married women.
This move aims to resolve the long-standing issue and provide a clearer policy for married women, ensuring that their identification documents accurately reflect their circumstances.

Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has thrown his support behind former Indian batter Gautam Gambhir to take over as the new head coach of Team India.
Akram expressed his belief after current head coach Rahul Dravid confirmed that he will be leaving the position after the T20 World Cup.
Amid reports that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reached out to several prominent international coaches, including Stephen Fleming, and Justin Langer. Akram’s endorsement of Gambhir comes from his belief that the former batter possesses the qualities needed for the role.
According to Akram, Gautam Gambhir is known for his straightforwardness and willingness to speak his mind, qualities that are not common in Indian culture but are highly respected.
“Yeah, he is the best candidate,” Akram stated in an interview with a YouTube channel. “He speaks clearly, bluntly, and doesn’t think twice, a quality that isn’t part of Indian cricket culture.”
“GG [Gautam] is someone who, if he doesn’t like something, will say it to your face. That’s his quality and that’s why everyone likes him. He will bring that same aggression to the team.”
Currently serving as a mentor for KKR in the ongoing IPL 2024, Gambhir’s extensive coaching experience makes him a solid candidate for the Indian cricket team’s head coach position, particularly after the T20 World Cup.
With Akram’s backing and Gambhir’s proven track record as both a player and mentor, the prospect of Gambhir leading the Indian cricket team from the sidelines is gaining momentum.

Currently, a Twitter thread has sparked a very important discussion over the prioritization of education over wealth. An Indian woman wrote on Platform X, formerly known as Twitter, about how important it is to give more value to generational education instead of generational wealth.
Why a Woman Prefer Generational Education
A reply in supporting agreement wrote, ” Marrying the right guy matters, but marrying into an educated family is so important and often less talked about.” They then maintained,
“My in-laws both professors, make me feel so liberated!” Hence they advised women to marry into an educated family for a much happier life.
As most statements do, this one as well has sparked cross-conversation. Many have shared their two cents on the matter. Most women, from experience, have brought light to an important aspect. Education does not equate to being educated.
Instances have been shared where women have married into families full of doctors and engineers from reputable institutes, yet they have struggled. Despite being educated, they have not been progressive enough to even let the women of the family work. Worst cases have shared that they suffered from domestic abuse.
Others have shared that it is not the level of higher education they received that endorses empathy and progressive behavior. One reply quoted, “Majority of the Upper Castes and OBC are educated. Kindness and empathy are not taught in school.” Simply suggesting that the overall mindset matters so much more. It has mostly got a lot to do with their upbringing overall. It is the way they perceive from the education experience overall that makes them open and understanding.
This thread of advice for young women has brought light to important matters that should always be taken into consideration when getting married.

Gilani also expressed her gratitude to her audience for their love and respect, but she wants to challenge herself and take on roles that will help her grow as an actress.
Here’s the interview:
Gilani also talked about how she wants her audience to wait for her projects and look forward to what she has coming up next. She wants to create a sense of anticipation and excitement around her work, rather than flooding the market with too many projects at once.
Fans have often told Gilani that they pause to watch her on screen because they trust her project choices, and she wants to maintain that trust. “A lot of times I’ve been told by fans that they pause to watch me on screen because they are sure that I must have chosen a good project to do,” she said.

Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting recently revealed that the BCCI approached him to become the next head coach of India. However, Ponting declined the offer as it didn’t align with his current lifestyle.
After current head coach Rahul Dravid announced he would not continue after the T20 World Cup, BCCI reached out to Ponting. However, he turned down the offer owing to his existing commitments, despite his interest.
“I’ve seen a lot of reports about it,” Ponting told the ICC. “During the IPL, they had a few little one-on-one conversations just to gauge my interest.”
Ponting explained that his other coaching and broadcasting roles posed challenges in accepting the position at this time.
“I’d love to be a senior coach of a national team. But with the other things in my life and wanting to have a bit of time at home. Everyone knows if you take a job working with the Indian team, you can’t be involved in an IPL team, so it would take that out of it as well.”
He mentioned that a national head coach position does not fit into his current lifestyle due to full commitment each year. However, he hinted at the possibility of reconsidering in the future, noting his family’s reaction to the idea.
“During the IPL, my family and kids spend time with me. My son was excited about the idea. He said, ‘Just take it, Dad; we would love to move over there for the next couple of years.’ They love the culture of cricket in India, but right now, it’s not the right fit.”
Ponting currently coaches the Delhi Capitals in the IPL and Washington Freedom in the MLC. He also serves as the head of strategy for Hobart Hurricanes in the BBL.

England players made headlines when they left the lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL) to represent their country in the T20I series against Pakistan, however, reports suggest that their captain, Jos Buttler, might miss a few games in the series for a very personal reason.
England and Pakistan are currently engaged in a four-match T20I series, serving as crucial preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.
The English players have demonstrated that national duty takes precedence over franchise leagues, and Buttler is now setting another important example: family comes first.
Buttler recently shared that he will be attending the imminent birth of his third child, emphasizing the importance of family. “My family comes first. I’ll be there. Babies don’t quite tell you sometimes when they’re going to come, but I’ve got a plan in place,” Buttler said.
This decision means Buttler might be absent for some games during the Pakistan series. If this timing overlaps with the World Cup, Buttler intends to leave the squad to be with his family, which could result in him missing several matches.
In Buttler’s absence, Moeen Ali is set to take over as captain. Buttler also mentioned that he will be the primary wicketkeeper, and if he’s unavailable, Phil Salt is expected to take on wicketkeeping duties, with Jonny Bairstow as a possible backup.
The first T20I match between Pakistan and England was unfortunately rained out in Leeds on Wednesday, while the second T20I is scheduled to take place in Birmingham on May 25th.
As both teams gear up for the next encounter, England’s ability to juggle national duties while prioritizing personal commitments continues to set a commendable standard in the cricketing world.
