After Esra Bilgiç, another Ertuğrul Actor, Engin Sultan, is coming to Pakistan and signing with a Pakistani company. This time it is the Blue World City.
Turkish drama fan following that began from Ishq e Mamnoon never really faded away. The fan-following went through various phases, though. Sometimes it was Ishq e Mamnoon, other times, it was Fatima Gul, and sometimes it was Manahil & Khalil. Currently, Ertugrul is all the rage. With the drama dubbed in Urdu and aired on PTV, it gathered quite some viewers.

Seeing that some Pakistani brands invited Esra Bilgiç. People did like it, but some did not encourage the idea of bringing foreign actors. They believed that Pakistani actors should get the chance and not some foreigner. Remember Yasir Hussain, anyone…
But anyway, brands will do what is more profitable for them. So Blue World City is now following QMobile and Jazz’s footsteps by inviting a foreigner in the folds.
Alhamdulilah – We are honoured to Host Brother Engin Altan Duzyatan in Pakistan, and and will extend a historic welcome…
Let’s hope Eltin has a great time in Pakistan so that when he goes back, more Turkish visit our country just as much as Pakistanis visit Turkey. Because while Karachi might not be at its full glory, Pakistani food cannot disappoint anyone.

Stigmas attached to getting divorced, marrying a divorcee, marrying an older woman are incredibly prevalent in the context of Pakistan; however, with increasing awareness, people are taking baby steps towards ending such stigmas. Shehbaz is one of these strong-willed individuals, committed to shattering the stereotypes.
Shehbaz Marries a Divorcee to Complete the Sunnah
Shehbaz, a handsome young guy from Pakistan, recently tied the knot with a divorcee to complete his Iman and follow the Sunnah. Not only is she older than Shehbaz, but she is also the mother of three beautiful daughters. In a society where the exploitative ‘Rishta culture’ is so common, this bold yet uplifting step by Shehbaz is an inspiration for all.
The Groom’s Point of View
Accepting his marriage wholeheartedly, Shehbaz is not only determined to fulfill all his responsibilities towards the relationship but is also satisfied as he has completed the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).
The ‘flaws’ (as per the society) that his wife-to-be has did not put off his willingness to marry the lady, even for a split second. Shehbaz was determined to follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Everyone on Twitter is Going Gaga Over this Marriage
A good looking guy, marrying an older, divorced woman, is indeed a rare sight in the judgmental Pakistani society. Seemingly, the woman had three major imperfections as per societal norms and standards, but Shehbaz successfully tossed them all out.
Paying no heed to what people might think, the young man did what he thought was the right thing to do and what aligned with his religious beliefs and sentiments. Surprisingly enough, people across Pakistan cannot stop appreciating Shehbaz for this commendable act. The couple is receiving a lot of admiration on Twitter:
May Allah bless their marriage and guide us all to walk on the path of Sunnah .❤️
Masha Allah May Allah make many follow your Path & Ummah gets rid of this Cultural adulteration, which discourages marrying with Divorcees & Widows..While our noblest of tradition of Sahaba was they used to rush in marrying such ladies thus providing a family, quickly post loss.
Others shared their personal experiences. Some also highlighted instances where young women willingly tie the knot with older men (who also have children), resulting in successful marriages. After all, acceptance is the key to successful relationships.
I did the same my wife was a widow with 2 children 1 son 1 daughter she was 5 years old then me and Alhamdullilah we are very happy children call me daddy and give them love like a father
My dad married my unmarried mom, she was 18, my dad was 35, he had four children. We are 9 siblings alhamdulillah. Don't blame women everywhere. My mom is an educated woman.
Amidst all the admiration, some people were also of the point that one should not showcase their good deeds openly in front of people on social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook.
Mazrat ke sath likhta hu "neki kar facebook par dal" "Neki kar twitter par dal" Fa ainallah ""Allah kaha gaya""
Nevertheless, it is about time we highlight such instances to create awareness among the masses. This awe-inspiring tale of a handsome young man marrying an older divorcee with three daughters serves as motivation for the upcoming generations to smash these toxic norms prevailing in our society and cultivate an inclusive and non-judgmental environment for all.
Sending lots of love and prayers, we wish the couple all the best for their future.
Do you think that the surfacing stories of such strong-willed individuals who are trying to break through these bizarre social norms and societal pressures are an indication of cultural and societal revolution in Pakistan? Are we becoming more civil and considerate towards others and their choices? Or do we still have a long way to go?
What do you think? Let us know in the comment section below.

Even though Pakistan’s national sport is hockey, we Pakistanis are well-known for our love for cricket.
Be it playing in international platforms, or our very own domestic league – Pakistan Super League (PSL), our love for the game is quite evident.
Ever since the formation of the Pakistan Cricket Team, there have been countless cricketers in the history of sports that have made Pakistan a proud country.
These cricketers have managed to go above and beyond, showcasing excellent skills in the field. They have shattered records set by legends and have made their records as well.
One such fantastic cricketer that has made our chest swell with pride is nonother than ‘The Professor’ or Mohammad Hafeez.
All-rounder Hafeez added another feather to his cap when he became the first male cricketer in T20Is to score 2,000 runs and take 50 wickets in the shortest format of the game (T20Is).
The 39-year old reached the milestone during Pakistan’s 2nd T20I against England in the beautiful city of Manchester.
Although Hafeez is the first male cricketer to achieve this milestone, there are already three female cricketers who have had this honor – Deandra Dottin of West Indies, Sophie Devine of New Zealand, and Stafanie Taylor of West Indies.
Mohammad Hafeez has had the privilege to be captain of the Pakistan cricket team in all formats. Once in Tests and twice in ODIs. But it is the T20Is where he was at the helm for a decent period.
We wish the professor all the very best for his future endeavors and hope he continues to make his nation proud.

Automotive manufacturers have come a long way if we dive into history. In 1886, Carl Benz was the first person to apply for a patent for his “vehicle powered by a gas engine.”
Now in 2020, almost every other auto-brand has taken an oath to go electric.
One such brand that has decided to shift its focus towards clean and sustainable energy is Honda. The auto-titan has introduced its first-ever fully electric-car.
Honda changed the name of their Honda Urban EV to Honda e to make it sound more catchy.
Earlier in 2019, the manufacturer had revealed the prototype of the vehicle. It was expected that Honda would eventually launch an EV in the market towards the end of 2019 or early 2020.
The Honda e was released in Europe earlier this month in an attempt to encourage EVs.
What’s Its Driving Capacity?
Honda is not the only automotive giant looking to secure shares in the EV market. There are many others in the race, including Tesla, Hyundai, and Audi too. Although each competitor is trying to give consumers bigger batteries, the Honda e will provide drivers with 280 km per charge.
Most EVs use large capacity batteries, but often, much of that capacity goes unused during city driving, -Tomofumi Ichinose, chief engineer of the Honda e
Is It Better For Urban Or Rural Areas?
PC: Automotive News Europe
According to the brains behind Honda e, the car is a perfect fit for the cities.
We question whether larger vehicles are appropriate for urban areas and believe that smaller is a better option for cities. -Ichinose shared.
Honda e Price?
The Honda e is intended as an upmarket city car, with a price-tag of around 33,000 Euros ($39,000).
Exterior & Design
The EV is a sight to look at. Its aesthetically pleasing, easy on the eyes, has a Honda classic N360 and N600 inspired body, which will give you a rush of nostalgia.
The engineers at Honda have focused explicitly on accurate and sharp handling to enable easy u-turns in narrow streets with this model.
Moreover, they have given it modern cosmetic upgrades such as replacing side mirrors with interior displays to avoid bumps and scrapes when parking the car.
Where Is It Available?
Honda has shared that the Honda e will only be sold in Europe as well as Japan, and will be up for grabs in late October. The titan expects annual sales of at least 1,000 unit sales in their homeland and about 10,000 units in Europe.
The automaker said it had no plans to market the car in North America or China at the moment, but that may change if Honda does not get the response it has estimated. Only time will tell if the Honda e can dominate the EV market in the EU.

Karachi rains have only recently broken a record of 36 years and the city is underwaters. All around the residents is a murky length of water. As unfortunate as it may be, several lives have been lost while the inconvenience to residents otherwise remains enormous.
Amidst all that, there was a little glimmer of hope and optimism and it came from none other than foodpanda riders. Keep reading to find out their warmest gesture yet!
Closeted Superheroes
A group of foodpanda riders in the North Karachi zone decided that they wanted to concentrate their efforts on rescuing people. A video shows two riders helping a woman cross a road, knee-deep in water, while the flow of the water was in the opposite direction.
As you can see, the woman would not have been able to cross it alone because the flow was so strong. There are two riders who anchor her and help her get home safely while there are several others standing in the area to offer further assistance.
The Riders and Their Unlimited Compassion
That was not all for their rescue efforts. They then proceeded to help a wagon move forth in the water. This was a herculean task especially since the water was deep enough to be covering 1/4th of the car and the riders were knee-deep submerged.
The difficulty with which they’re pushing the car is visible but they don’t give up. This sort of resilient spirit and determination to help others is what makes us proud of our country and its people. Kudos to the foodpanda riders for whom the difficulty of others came before their own comfort.
The Opportunity Cost of Civilians’ Relief Efforts
While they may be lauded for their initiative, let’s not get distracted. Had they not taken this responsibility on their head, who would have helped the woman cross the flooded rood? Who would have helped the wagon through?
The Heroes Deserve An Appreciation
These videos went viral and they did for good reason. This is team spirit and compassion’s prime example from foodpanda riders. As a thank you and to appreciate these courageous men within the company, they were invited to the Headquarters.
There they met with the CEO and the team but that’s not all. They were given appreciation certificates and gifts too! Appreciation within the workplace can make anyone feel confident and these guys deserved it more than anything.
There are hundreds of others who weren’t helped and who remained in such inconvenient positions. The government failed Karachi in two major ways. Firstly, it was their responsibility to ensure urban flooding does not happen. Secondly, they failed to rescue their citizens.

The monsoon season has always been extremely tragic for Karachiites. However, this year, the terrible blow of monsoon took the metropolitans by surprise. Regardless of the socio-economic classes that people belong to, this spell of the disastrous Karachi rainfall has undoubtedly effected both sides of Karachi in varying yet overwhelming ways.
The underprivileged affectees
The ‘kachi-abaadi’ dwellers and residents belonging to areas with ill-structured houses have been through hell. Poor daily wagers, despite the disastrous rainfall, had no choice but to step out and work to earn a living.
Vendors selling fruits, ice-cream, corn (bhutta), among other street foods, were seen standing by the side-walks. Many of them became homeless as the rain wrecked their houses. Several people even lost their lives as the roofs collapsed. They were helpless and could do nothing but see the city drown.
The Elites Suffered Too
People from posh areas (like DHA) also faced their fair share of challenges as the disastrous spell of rain hit the metropolis. From power shutdown to flooded roads and houses – the lives of the elite class got disrupted too. After the sixth spell of the monsoon rain in Karachi, almost half of the mobile towers were shut down due to some disturbances in the supply chain of the telecom sector.
Being unable to contact their loved ones in the havoc and chaos caused by the unexpectedly disastrous consequences of the rain, the residents got infuriated.
People called out the authorities for their incompetence and the lack of infrastructure facilities that the government has provided to the financial hub of the country. Dealing with the aftermath of monsoon rainfall, that too amidst a pandemic, was too much for Karachiites to handle.
The Elites Flaunting Their Privileged Self
However, there were still a few who could not be less empathetic towards the affectees. Traveling in Vigos, splashing water on the passersby – their privilege was screaming at the top of their lungs.
A shoutout to all the Vigo owners, driving around in the storm, enjoying the weather, with two soaking wet guards, sitting in the Daala, holding on for their dear lives!! #KarachiRain
People poured out their grievances on Twitter, highlighting the pathetic conditions of the city after the rain. Some shed light on the seriousness of the situation while others demanded their rights to be served. The miserable condition of the town also became a breeding ground for political debates.
On Twitter, Karachiites painted a picture of how the “City of Lights” drowned into gloominess:
At least 23 people in Pakistan were killed yesterday after record monsoon rains in Karachi, flooding streets and causing roofs to collapse.
Many people are stranded or being evacuated by boat.
The government is now held responsible for the flawed and imbalanced urban planning policies and practices that have exacerbated the condition of the city over the years. Under the Sindh government, Karachi is considered as one of the most highly compromised cities of Pakistan. Karachiites have hence started demanding Karachi to become a separate province or administrative unit. Rightfully so, the city has been neglected for years and now needs attention more than ever.
Although the monsoon rainfall superficially seems to be a natural crisis, if we dig deeper into its dynamics, it unfolds as a human-made disaster in Karachi due to the negligence and incompetence of the Sindh government towards the city. The destruction, caused by these well-forecasted monsoon spells, can be curtailed with proper planning and administrative measures.
Are there any solutions to this situation? Can Karachi survive in the hands of the powerful elite? Is there still some hope left? Let us know in the comments below!

Karachi, home to hundreds of thousands of citizens and popularly called ‘The City Of Lights’, is no longer what it used to be.
On Thursday, 27th August, Karachiites witnessed the worst weather system the city had ever seen in years. The heavy rain spells and lightning continued to pour down, and soon, the town found itself stuck in a horrible situation.
Unlike international standards where drainage systems are used to clear roads and surrounding areas of rainwater, the clogged sewage systems in Karachi encouraged rainwater to flood the streets, causing hundreds of cars, bikes, and even people to drown.
The neck-deep water caused not only massive damages to transport and people but also caused enormous havoc for businesses that had to remain shut for days.
Furious to see the current condition of their beautiful city, now turned into a waste dump as litter and waste-filled the streets, the residents of Karachi took it to social media to express their anger and to call out the Sindh government for a failed system.
PC: Arab news
“Why should we pay taxes when we have to look after draining out water from our homes and streets. When there is no electricity and no clean water.” Tweeted an angry resident.
Why should we pay taxes when we have to look after draining out water from our homes and streets.
When there is no electricity and no clean water. #karachijaagjao#KarachiRain#karachi
While another user, through a video showing the current situation in front of the Governor House 4 days after the rain spell, he tweeted, “4 din baad bhi governor house road ka ye haal ha. Red zone ka ye haal haa. Just imagine (even after four days, this is the condition of the Governor House Road. This is the condition of a red-zone. imagine)”
Day 5 into the urban flooding and yet, roads are filled with gushing water, electricity is, however, to be restored, several have died by either drowning or electrical incidents, many are still missing, work and businesses are suffering from internet outages and goods worths millions have perished because of the rainwater.
With frustration and anger in their hearts, Karachiites ask the Sindh government, what’s next?
This was 26th street DHA Karachi, my neighborhood….this is why I was worried about my family, my father. What we have witnessed in Karachi today was apocalyptic in some ways. The true hurt & damage will be visible after the water recedes. Nothing but devastation. #KarachiRainpic.twitter.com/loWHBQ1rZC
City of lights, city of dreams, city that acts as a mother to our country “Karachi” is in crisis, it’s drowning, people jumping from rooftop into underpass, who could have thought of this. It may sound funny but it’s not. Karachi needs help#KarachiNeedsAttention#KarachiRain
My Uncle in Karachi had a heart attack this evening and relatives and neighbors tried everything from trying to drive him to physically carrying him on their shoulders to get to the hospital, but they couldn’t make it on time and he passed away. #KarachiRain
This is DHA Phase 6 Karachi. What is happening in the low lying areas of KHI today is devastating yet once again.
Testing times for Karachiites yet again!
No doubt Allah tests those he loves the most.#KarachiRain#KarachiSinks#RainEmergencypic.twitter.com/MEBgRxWMCs
When will Karachi be treated as a financial hub? When will politicians finally recognize the city as an essential contributor towards the country, when will the suffering come to an end? When will corruption lose the battle citizens are fighting against every day? When will Sindh see a competent government instead of one that is making excuses?

There can be many reasons why an engine overheats. There could be something wrong with the car’s cooling system, maybe a leak, the fan could have broken down, so on.
Regardless of what the problem may be, now you have an over-heated engine and have to get it fixed.
However, it is always smart to be on the look-out for signs and indications a car gives when there is a problem with the engine.
Incase if your engine has overheated, here’s what you need to do:
As soon as the engine goes bust, immediately turn off the AC to take the stress off the engine and crank up the heat. This can help in pulling away the heat gathered in the engine department. However, it may cause you a lot of discomfort.
2. Pull Over in a Safe Place
PC: Singapore Stuff
Try to find a safe place so that you can avoid dealing with a busted car in the middle of a highway or busy road. Shut down the car for at least a good 15 minutes before you try to turn it back on. Be sure to keep an eye on the temperature gauge.
3. Add Coolant
PC: CarRoar
If you have coolant in your truck, add it if the coolant level is low. This can help protect your engine from excessive damage. However, it will not be of much good if there is a clog in the engine.
The Don’ts
1. Don’t Panic
Panic will not get you anywhere, your engine may not be cool but you have to be in order to be able to think straight in this situation. Avoid kicking or slamming your car doors to cause more damage.
2. Don’t Continue Driving
Credits: Olmsted Center for Sight
Do not continue your journey regardless of where you may be. The more you drive, the more damage you cause to the engine resulting in more costly expenses.
3. Don’t Pop the Hood Immediately
The hot steam/smoke coming from under your hood can burn you and cause damage to your eyes and lungs if the hood is opened as soon as the problem starts. Give the car a few minutes to cool down before you play detective.

Because of the COVID-19 lockdown, I was spending more time in my bedroom than before. Pretty soon, I started noticing the imperfections and the flaws. I realized how unorganized it was, how dull and boring it looked and how much I hated my closet.
Since I had been on vacation earlier this year, the experience was still fresh in my memory. Those amazing hotel room vibes, the sound of the flute from the lobby, and the warm lighting were all truly remarkable. This idea popped up in my mind that why should I not try to make my bedroom like a five-star hotel.
If you are also trying to make your bedroom like a five-star hotel, here are six tips for you:
1. A lot of lights
There is a little chance that you can ever go wrong with the lights. Proper lighting can completely change the feel and look of your room. 3-way bedside lamps are high for this if you can, then add brightness in your closet as well.
A well-lit bathroom is essential. In almost all hotels, you would have observed; there are warm lights. It is because warm lights add life to a room. Additionally, you should get dimmers on all views. They can create a relaxed and calm ambiance.
2. A bedroom is a bed-room
A bed is an essential thing in your room. You need to make sure that it’s cozy and comfortable with making your bedroom like a five-star hotel. For your bed, you can get monochromatic sheets. However, most interior designers suggest using white sheets only. White also creates an aura of peace and serenity.
When making your bed, go for hospital corners as they create a neat look. You can also consider buying a top pillow mattress if it’s in your budget. Lastly, add throw pillows of different colors, preferably bold, as they will bring attention and colors.
3. Little things make the room
You can add little things to add feel to your room. In my opinion, there is nothing better than a scented candle. You can also put a beautiful looking glass and pitcher to your bedside. Fresh flowers and wireless speakers are also great. A fluffy rug beside your bed looks and feels fantastic.
4. Don’t sit on your bed only
Your bed shouldn’t be the only place for you to sit on in your room. You should create a separate seating area. A separate seating area can be used when reading a book, having tea or coffee, or watching the sunset or sunrise if you have got a window.
5. Bathrobe and sleep mask
You should invest in the best kind of bathrobe and sleep mask. They can provide a delightful and luxurious feeling.
6. Decluttering is key
Last but not least, no feeling matches the feeling you get when you walk in your room, and everything’s perfectly organized there. The organization is the most important thing. It does not matter how expensive items you buy if your room is unorganized. Hence, start organizing that drawer in which you put everything or your closet so that the next time you open it, a mountain of clothes doesn’t fall on you.
What do you think about these six tips to make your bedroom a five-star hotel? Let us know in the comments below.

Ertugrul. That’s a name we have all heard nowadays until our ears gave up. The Turkish series based on Islamic history and succession of empires have taken Pakistan by storm. When Pakistanis are not discussing Ertugrul or commenting on the actors’ profiles, they’re incorporating the drama in their businesses.
The Obsession Knows No Bounds
A few days ago, news broke out that a private cooperative housing society had erected a life-sized statue of Erugrul. The president, Shahzad Cheema, said he loved the idea and decided to go ahead with it. Moreover, Javed Afridi, Chairman of Peshawar Zalmi, tweeted something about Ertugrul that put people in a frenzy.
WHAT IF #ErtugrulGhazi JOIN PESHAWAR ZALMI AS A BRAND AMBASADOR ❓
Besides these large-scale instances, other social media platforms are riddled with advertisements involving Ertugrul. Ertugrul’s face is on papar packets, on the banner of a doodh shop, electric shop, barbecue vendor and more.
People not only use his face to honor him in the best way they know but also to attract customers. Like people being obsessed enough to put his face on their products, there are those obsessed enough to purchase those products specially.
All of a sudden clothing brands are also producing items with the tribe mark or their faces.
That may be normal, but the overwhelming response such brands are getting is not! People want to get their hands on Ertugrul in any which way they can. We bet if the circumstances were normal, Turkey would be the top vacation destination in these summers.
Ertugrul Fans Do Not Stay Silent
When Pakistani veteran actors like Reema Khan or Shaan expressed reservations about the series they were not entertained. Hundreds of responses started pouring in, defending the series and mocking the actors.
So our Dear Shaan …..wants us to watch this … instead of #Ertugrul
Shaan was especially trolled for his signature performances in comparison to the epic series.
Why Everyone Is Obsessed
By now, everyone has a fair understanding of what the series is about. But have we pondered over why we are obsessed with it? Ertugrul is not in our history books. His name was rarely known to people before the series blew up in Pakistan. Ertugrul brings with it the long-awaited positive representation of the Muslim empire.
However, his efforts in the name of faith were exemplary, and that is why people love him whole-heartedly. Besides that, the series itself is so immaculately produced that people are blown away. From the elaborate sets, costumed and dialogues, this is a standard of production we have rarely seen before. What’s not to be obsessed?
Have you seen Ertugrul yet? Let us know what you think about it in the comments below!

We Pakistanis are no strangers to load-shedding. From gas shortage to water mafia to no electricity for hours and sometimes even days, we have been through it all, but it has been a while since we have had such a long period of load shedding.
Just when we forgot what load-shedding feels like, we were reminded again. We thought we were past that, and tabdeeli was here to stay, but maybe not.
Also, let us not forget the coronavirus pandemic that has already caused havoc in our lives, and now the summer heat is ruining everything. I mean, can 2020 just give us a break?
Here’s a list of things you can do to get past terrifying load-shedding hours:
1- Invest in a Power Bank: Investing in a power bank is an absolute necessity! Keep it charged for times when there is no electricity. Charge your phone whenever you run out of battery and enjoy music, radio, tv shows, social media, etc.
2- Download Podcasts: Keep your mental health in place and download podcasts that can help you. Ideally, I like listening to them as soon as I wake up, but you can listen to them when you don’t have electricity.
3- Freeze Healthy Homemade Popsicles: The temperature during the day time can go up to 35 degrees or more. With no electricity, it can get humid.
Freeze healthy homemade popsicles. Use mangoes as they are in season, or choose any fruit you like. Enjoy them once the electricity is gone, and maybe make it a habit.
4- Set up a Sitting Area on Rooftop or Balcony: Set up a small area in the open air to sit when you don’t have electricity. Enjoy chai with music and the evening freeze. During the day time, it is best to stay indoors and curse your electricity provider.
5- Play Games: You can play board games such as Ludo, Monopoly with your siblings, or your parents to kill time. Cards can do the trick too! Maybe play antakhshri to cheer up a little since we don’t have a lot of reasons to smile these days.
Remember to look around and give a helping hand to anybody who is going through a rough time. A lot of people around you are likely suffering during unprecedented times.
Have something to add? Let us know in the comment section below.

Cars can be very tricky as they can’t speak to their owners to tell them what’s wrong and why.
One common issue that almost every other driver faces at least once is the car’s AC not cooling properly.
There can be many different reasons why your car is not cooling. That’s why we have compiled the most common causes so that you do not have to worry and are prepared accordingly.
Here are the three most common reasons:
1. The Condenser is Blocked or Broken
Credits: AutoZone
The condenser of your vehicle’s air conditioning unit is supposed to re-cool hot refrigerant. However, it can get blocked by debris, and at times it breaks down by a puncture. This leads to performance trouble and equipment failure.
2. Leaking Refrigerant
Credits: BlueDevil Products
A leak can occur at any time during the air conditioning process. At times, it is highly challenging to pinpoint the exact location of the hole. Nonetheless, the most common leaks are usually found at A/C unit hose connections.
3. Electrical Wiring Issues

Electrical wiring can be very tricky. Moreover, electrical issues are some of the most challenging problems to find, diagnose, and fix before any excessive damage has been done. If nothing is picked from a viral inspection, you should take your car to an expert as soon as you can before more damage is done.

Amidst the emergency in Karachi, citizens are asking the government to take back its decision of suspending cellular services in the province on the 9th and 10th of Muharram. As per past practice, the ministry of interior and PTA have issued notifications to the operators for network closures during Ashura in Sindh, KPK, Punjab, and Baluchistan.
Fresh rain spell on Thursday, submerged Karachi’s significant thoroughfares, and killed 23 people, forcing the administration to call in the army and paramilitary rangers to rescue stranded people in several localities. Since Friday morning, the city is almost at a standstill due to flooding and power outage that has now lasted more than 30 hours in most areas.
Difficulty in restoring cellular services
In these circumstances, even mobile operators are facing difficulty in restoring services given cellular base stations are either submerged in water or have run-out of fuel for backup generators. Citizens were left to voice their frustrations online as they found themselves with little means to contact friends, family, and co-workers.

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) spokesperson Khurram Mehran said, “Due to prolonged power failure in the city, many towers are out of service, and their generators are shut because there’s no fuel to power them.”
While people are stranded due to torrential rains, the rescue efforts demand routine cellular services for maximum impact, and mobile operators are working on an emergency footing to restore services.
Cellular services are critical in such times
But with more rain forecasted for Friday evening, there is no relief in sight for the masses. The decision to suspend cellular services in the name of security is detrimental to the ongoing relief efforts. In the coming days, to connect citizens to emergency flood control centers, medical camps, and emergency food ration distribution drives, cellular services are critical. Given this state of emergency, it is imperative that the government revisits its decision and provides relief to the people instead of adding to their misery by suspending cellular services.

Unemployment has been an issue in Pakistan for a long time now. There is a huge discrepancy between what is supplied and what is demanded. Moreover, now unemployment is at an all-time high as all corporations lay off their employees in order to preserve losses.
At a time like this, said the news is like manna from the heavens! The government has announced the availability of 1100 jobs under CPEC. But, what’s the catch?
CPEC Is Making Waves
Chairman of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Authority, Asim Bajwa, recently made a huge announcement. Bajwa announced that over 1100 jobs will be created across different categories at Thar Block-I.
The mine is none other than the $1.9 billion integrated coal mine and power project situated in Tharparkar.

According to Chairman CPEC, local residents will be given preference. In other words, the authorities don’t want to exploit the area as is the norm. Residents will be preferred in the selection on the basis of their qualifications.
More About The Mine
The Thar coalfield stretches over 9,000 sq. km and has an estimated 175 billion tons of coal reserves. These characteristics make it the 7th biggest coalfield in the world.
The Thar Block-I project holds immense significance in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a key part of the much bigger Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
Once operational, the project will supply 6.8 million tons of lignite, soft brownish coal, annually to two 660 MWs power plants. One of the power plants will be completed in August 2022 while the other will start in 2023.

Why Are We Going Backwards?
Truth be told, CPEC’s coal power plant and Pakistan’s happiness over it is disappointing to say the least. At a time when all the countries in the world are going coal-free and making huge, innovative developments to mitigate climate change’s effects, we’re amping up our coal production!
Coal releases CO2 in the air which is a greenhouse gas that makes the Earth warmer.
Why have the rains of Karachi broken a 90-year old record? It’s because of climate change and this is just the beginning. If, at the very beginning, we have an entire city going into a state of emergency, can we really afford the impending disasters?
The government taking pride in the Billion Tree Tsunami project while exploiting huge coal mines is like adding fuel to the fire but also purchasing a fire extinguisher to put on the side.
China’s Strategic Moves
China is the world’s largest coal consumer. The superpower recently decided to amplify the development work on the Thar Block-I project after a trade war initiated with Australia.

The Australian Prime Minister’s call for an independent investigation into the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan in late December, last year, has severed the tie between the two nations. In this regard, 500 workers of Shanghai Electric Power recently reached Pakistan to resume work on the Thar Block-I project.

Karachi has been afflicted by possibly the worst case of urban flooding. The once vibrant and electric metropolitan hub is now submerged in murky waters with destruction all around.
The city should be declared to be in a state of emergency but it’s not. However, for your own safety follow these precautions according to your state.
What To Do Before A Flood
These precautions are for when the government or weather authorities have issued a flood warning. For instance, if Karachi residents had been warned of an incoming flood, here’s what the best course of action would be:
1. Prepare an emergency kit that is portable and light-weight to carry. Have medical supplies in it that can be needed.
2. Elevate your electronics, furniture and other prized possessions in the house that can be damaged. Setting up make-shift foundations around the house atop which things can be put will be useful.

3. If possible, shift to the higher floor of your house or go to a place where you’ll be higher up.
4. Know where you can evacuate from if the flood is too strong and make sure that exit is operational at all times.
What To Do During A Flood
In this stage, the danger is upon you which is why it is imperative to act quickly and efficiently. Here are measures to follow if you are in the middle of a food:

1. Avoid entering flooded water. Six inches of water can actually trip you and the current can be strong enough to take you along. The water can also be contaminated with gasoline or sewerage, exposing you to a host of health risks.
2. Be far, far away from any place where there can be an electrical current.
3. Avoid rushing water and move towards still spots if you already are in the water.
4. Have a long object in hand with which you can check the ground ahead to make sure it is sturdy before you take a step.
5. If you are in your car, drive away from flooded areas. Two feet of water can start to direct your car itself which can be extremely dangerous. Abandon your car if possible since if the water starts seeping in the car doors can get stuck too.
What To Do After A Flood
Picking up the pieces after can be extremely distressing. The damage can also be unexpected, here’s how you can manage:
Avoid using tap water, it can be contaminated.
2. Wait for official confirmation before going back.
3. Avoid areas that still have flooded water because they could be contaminated or have an electrical charge.
4. Do not turn lights on immediately. Walk around and see if you smell gas, often the source of gas can be disturbed.
5. If your home has a wooden structure, air it out and get it dried as soon as possible. Wooden structures do not withstand water for long.
5. Wear protective clothing when cleaning the water.

Besides that, at all stages be it before, during or after, don’t forget to be compassionate. Don’t forget the stray animals and pets, they only have you around them for help. They too can be electrocuted, drown or fall in holes.

Karachi rains and urban flooding has scared even those whose houses are miraculously safe up til now in the city. While they are safe, their prayers go out to those suffering in this weather. Witnessing the people suffering on news channels, they often talk about who is providing shelter to Karachiites.
In one such conversation I had with my father, he told me about a similar experience from his childhood. He mentioned that when there were extreme rains or floods in Sindh, the government would arrange public schools as shelters for the affected.
Once again, it’s time for everyone to help the affected. And thankfully, we have seen organizations get active and play their part.
1. Sheikh Abdul Ghaffar Kabab House
Sheikh Abdul Ghaffar Kabab House is a restaurant in Karachi. They are located in Tariq Road. In a recent post on Facebook, they announced opening their doors for the public providing free shelter and food.
In their post, they mentioned that all the shelter seekers will be given bunkababs, roll parathas and drinking water. So, if anyone you know is nearby this restaurant and wants help, please direct him/her to the place. They shared two contact number so feel free to pass it on.

2. JDC
JDC is another organization that is actively sending food for those without food. They are making fresh food and requesting everyone to send them locations for affected people. In a twitter video the face of JDC Foundation said, “We are already sending foo to many areas but keep informing us about more.” Celebrities are retweeting such videos as well so keep an eye out. The video also mentions their helpline number to convey your message.
Above 250 imambargahs have opened their doors for everyone seeking shelter. You don’t have to know any contact numbers. Just open Google maps and look up the nearest Imambargah. Or look up the list provided in the post and seek shelter. You will readily find food and shelter.
During the current emergency situation in Karachi all Imambargahs are welcoming anyone stranded in rain. Please do not…
And of course, Edhi foundation. We will forever be indebted to Abdul Sattar Edhi for having established Edhi Foundation. After him, under the leadership of Faisal Edhi the foundation is still working tirelessly to help the city. They are as always providing shelter and support to the affected. Their helpline is 115.
7 children were safely rescued from Malir river by Edhi divers last night in Karachi. This city will always be indebted to Edhi sahab. Without edhi ambulances & relief workers, Karachi walas would be so much worse when disaster strikes. Big thanks to Edhi foundation & volunteers.
Here are some other helpline numbers that you need to know in case you or anyone you know needs help:
5. Chhipa: 1021
6. Red Crescent: 1030
These and many other organizations are working to provide shelter to Karachiites. And if you are among those who wanted to help these organizations do uninterrupted work, you can also contribute to them.

In the past few days, Karachi has seen quite some tragedies due to the torrential rains. While some are stranded because they cannot get to their homes due to the fast-flowing water on streets, some have lost their houses to landslide or flooding. But here is where Karachiites restore our faith in humanity.
Upon seeing the fellow citizens suffer from no food and drinkable water in their flooded houses, the Karachiites are coming to their rescue. They are opening up places for shelter and providing food where possible, be it to someone confined to their offices for more than 24 hours or someone looking helpless on the street.
Not only are we acknowledging their effort but also conveying this information to anyone who needs their help.
Shelter and food at Imambargahs
There is one post circulating on the internet regarding imambargahs. Shi’i sect has opened its Imambargahs for the public regardless of sectarian associations. These posts mention various specific Imambargahs to seek shelter at.
Please retweet & spread the word
If you're stuck somewhere & you're far from your home with no chance of reaching out any sooner so please please use google maps and try to reach out to ur nearest Imambargah
Moreover, another event surfaced where a group of Karachiites was stranded in front of Millennium Mall. Due to a lot of water, they could not go in any direction. By 8 pm, they were hungry and helpless. And just then, a fellow Karachiite gave them free burgers.

Helping the helpers
Furthermore, Karachiites also proved that if even police need help, they won’t shy away. Because it is not just the police who have to rescue us if they need us, we will be there for them. And thus, as the police van was right in the middle of the flooded street with fast-flowing water, the public at the footpath ensured the safety of the present policemen. Have a look:
There were also instances where either the basements or the ground floors flooded with a foot deep water. It is a hazardous situation because, in the presence of electrical appliances, there was a possibility of electrocution as well. And at places, wall, fell making their houses unsafe. In these scary times, people were readily available to help out strangers for water pumping or re-construction.
A twitter user with the handle @nisshhoo shared her own experience of driving in Karachi streets. According to her, she returned home by 3 in the morning. But she was grateful for Karachiites making her feel safe and rescuing her wherever she needed. The thread she shared on Twitter indeed made one belief in humanity once again.
I’m not gonna lie I was very scared and started crying on so many points because never have I ever drove in so much water but Karachi and it’s people somehow made me feel better and won my heart all over again. ❤️ Stay Safe Karachi. #KarachiRains#KarachiSinks#Karachi
