Tamim Iqbal Suffered a Heart Attack During DPL Match
Bangladesh cricket was dealt a shocking blow on Monday as former national team captain Tamim Iqbal suffered a heart attack during a Dhaka Premier League (DPL) match. The 36-year-old, who was captaining Mohammedan Sporting Club in a domestic 50-over game, felt chest pain following the toss and was taken for immediate medical attention.
Medical Emergency on the Field
Eyewitnesses at the ground said Tamim appeared visibly agitated before the match started. He tried to carry on but soon needed medical help. After being examined on the field, he was quickly taken to a hospital in Savar, a suburb of Dhaka. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) medical officer Debashis Chowdhury later said Tamim had indeed had a heart attack but that his condition had started improving.

Outpouring of Support

His efforts as a player, captain and mentor have played a crucial role in developing Bangladesh’s cricketing identity in the world.

With PSL 10 just around the corner, team rosters are getting last-minute tweaks. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced several player replacements, featuring some key changes in the squads of Peshawar Zalmi and Islamabad United.
Let’s break it down!
Peshawar Zalmi Brings in George Linde
Peshawar Zalmi has roped in South African all-rounder George Linde as a full replacement for Corbin Bosch in the Diamond category. For the unversed, Bosch opted to join the Mumbai Indians in the IPL, despite his contract with Peshawar Zalmi.
Linde, known for his left-arm spin and explosive lower-order batting, will bring depth to Zalmi’s squad. His experience in leagues worldwide makes him a valuable addition ahead of the highly competitive tournament.
Islamabad United Signs Alex Carey
Islamabad United has added Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Carey as a partial replacement for Rassie van der Dussen in the Supplementary category.
Carey is a solid top-order batter with a knack for building innings. His presence adds flexibility to Islamabad’s batting lineup, especially with the tournament expected to be a batting-friendly affair.
Replacement Picks Reserved for Key Players
Apart from these confirmed signings, several franchises have chosen to reserve their replacement picks for missing players.
Peshawar Zalmi has reserved a Gold category pick for Nahid Rana.
Karachi Kings has reserved a Silver category pick for Litton Das.
Quetta Gladiators & Karachi Kings have reserved replacements for Mark Chapman (Platinum) and Kane Williamson (Supplementary), respectively.
This means these teams are keeping their options open, likely waiting for the right player before making a final decision.
The season 10 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) will kick off on April 11 with a blockbuster clash between defending champions Islamabad United and two-time winners Lahore Qalandars at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

The New Zealand Cricket Board (NZC) has announced its ODI squad for the upcoming three-match series against Pakistan, starting March 29. With several key players missing due to IPL commitments, this series will be a golden opportunity for some new faces to make their mark on the international stage.
Fresh Blood in the BLACKCAPS
One of the biggest talking points is the inclusion of two uncapped players—Nick Kelly and Muhammad Abbas.
Nick Kelly – The 31-year-old has had a sensational domestic season for the Wellington Firebirds. He has been a run machine across all formats, scoring 1,307 runs this season.
He also leads the Plunket Shield charts with 749 runs, including four centuries. With his ability to anchor the innings, Kelly is expected to open alongside Will Young.
Muhammad Abbas – The 21-year-old all-rounder had a standout Ford Trophy campaign, scoring 340 runs at an average of 42.50. His maiden List A century (104) in February turned heads.
Abbas, born in Pakistan, moved to New Zealand as a child and is now a rising white-ball star. His left-arm seam bowling adds variety to the squad, making him a valuable asset.
A Balanced Mix of Youth and Experience
With the likes of Mitchell Santner, Rachin Ravindra, Devon Conway, and Glenn Phillips unavailable due to the IPL, New Zealand has opted for a mix of seasoned players and emerging talent.
Tom Latham will captain the side and handle wicket-keeping duties, while Michael Bracewell, leading the ongoing T20I series, will serve as the spin-bowling all-rounder..
Mark Chapman and Daryl Mitchell will bring stability to the middle order, where as Will O’Rourke, Jacob Duffy, Nathan Smith, and Ben Sears will form the pace attack.
The 22-year-old leg-spinner Adi Ashok also gets another shot at international cricket. Having made his debut against Bangladesh in December 2023, he will look to cement his place in the New Zealand setup.
One of the major headlines is the absence of Kane Williamson. The experienced batter has made himself unavailable, leaving a big gap in the batting order. However, this presents a huge opportunity for players like Nick Kelly and Mitch Hay to step up.
ODI Series Schedule
📅 March 29 – 1st ODI, McLean Park, Napier 📅 April 2 – 2nd ODI, Seddon Park, Hamilton 📅 April 5 – 3rd ODI, Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui

Comedian Kunal Kamra Mock State Leaders, Gets in Touble
Comedian Kunal Kamra, who is known for his sharp political humour, is now facing consequences for his satirical jokes. Apparently, it’s freedom of speech until it’s a matter of powerful figures and governmental authorities.
What Did Comedian Kunal Kamra Do?
Comedian Kunal Kamra recently performed a standup act at The Habitat comedy club in Mumbai. In the show, he took a satirical toll on numerous powerful figures which also included Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. In his jokes, Kunal criticised Shinde for switching sides and even called him a “traitor” through a Bollywood song. This was a reference to the politician’s dramatic defection in 2022 that sparked a major political upheaval in the state. The comedian didn’t know what he was getting into with a joke on such a serious matter.
Shinde’s “Switch Up”
The sensitivity of this “joke” was no joke. It referred to a major political crisis that struck Maharashtra in 2022.
Eknath Shinde was a senior Shiv Sena leader and minister in the MVA government. However, he revolted against the party leadership in June 2022.
He led a group of MLAs who were dissatisfied with Shiv Sena’s alliance with the Congress and NCP. As a result, the party got split up into “two” and the one led by Shinde joined hands with BJP to form a political coalition. This resulted in a lot of people developing distrust and set a precedent for political defections.
The Aftermath Of the “Joke”
Soon after the show ended, supporters from Shinde’s faction of the Shiv Sena party stormed “The Habitat.”. Many video footage showed dozens of men, or well, “goons” throwing chairs and causing massive destruction throughout the venue.
This resulted in police complaints getting filed into both the matter, the vandalism and Kamra’s remarks. The complaint against comedian Kunal Kamra is a defamation complaint for allegedly insulting a political leader.
Not only this, but Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis (an ally of Shinde) has openly criticised the comedian’s remarks and called for accountability.
“Insult of leaders cannot be tolerated,”Fadnavis told reporters. “Everyone has the right to perform stand-up comedy, but freedom should not be unrestrained behaviour. Action will be taken under the law.”
Kunal Kamra has also been facing political threats post this matter. There was a leaked call recording between Kunal Kamra and a political worker of Shinde in which Kunal Kamra was getting threatened. Even Shiv Sena MLA Naresh Mhaske posted a video warning Kamra: “You will be forced to flee India.”
The Habitat also issued a statement the next day in which they announced that they will be shutting down indefinitely while it assessed how to “provide a platform for free expression” without compromising safety.
Clearly, the club suffered severe consequences for just being a platform. “We have never been involved in the content performed by the artists, but the recent events have made us rethink how we get blamed and targeted every time” stated the comedy club.
Kunal’s severe take on the political figure earned some praises too. The joke immediately got viral with many Indians supporting it and Kunal’s ability to lace such a matter with humour. Even the opposing parties jumped the bandwagon as Sanjay Raut, a political leader, took it to X and praised the comedian’s straight forward stance.
He later on also criticised that Shinde’s people are harrassing a man for his mere political stance and how this makes Shinde a “weak chief minister.”
Kunal Kamra’s Response and His Political Stance
Kunal Kamra, as of now, has not responded directly to the complaint. However, he did post a photo of himself holding a copy of the Indian Constitution with the caption: “The only way forward.”
Comedian Kunal Kamra’s Post on Sunday
The comedian is no stranger to controversy. This isn’t his first time, which explains his calm demeanour despite such threats.
Kunal has been very open about his political stance and hence has also been a vocal critic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This makes it a common occurrence for Kunal to receive backlash from Hindu nationalist groups.
Freedom of Speech, a Question in India
This is not the first time comedians have faced political resentment due to their jokes and satirical takes. In 2021, fellow comedian Munawar Faruqui was jailed for over a month for allegedly insulting Hindu deities and later had multiple shows cancelled due to threats from right-wing activists.
All these events make one question the allowance of freedom of expression in India. A state that claims itself to be very open-minded and progressive yet targets people for their art. It seems like people can say whatever they want until it involves figures close to the ruling establishment. So much for liberation and free speech rights!

A man and his pregnant wife were killed in an accident when a water tanker hit a bike in Karachi, on the main Shahra-e-Faisal road on Monday, according to police and hospital officials.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Pir Mohammed Shah of the Karachi Traffic Police said that the water truck was travelling from Model Colony to Shahra-e-Faisal without making a left turn. According to him, there were freshly placed concrete barriers on the spit, but the driver broke through them when the car’s brakes failed and struck the family on a bike.
“As a result of the water tanker accident, the couple and their newborn baby were killed,” the Traffic DIG said. He also added that the traffic police officials present at the scene caught the errant driver and seized the tanker, handing it over to the police for investigation.
Following the unfortunate tragedy, the full-term pregnant mother gave birth to a baby, however the infant did not survive, according to Korangi Senior Superintendent of Police Mohammed Tariq Nawaz. The accident happened while the husband was allegedly taking his wife to the hospital for a check-up.
This was, however, not the first accident of such nature in the city. According to medical records, there was a startling rise in traffic accidents in Karachi in 2024, with approximately 500 fatalities and 4,879 injuries brought on by a variety of factors, including careless driving and construction.
The city also recently enacted regulations limiting the movement of heavy trucks and tankers, permitting them to only operate from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. However, many drivers don’t seem to follow these regulations resulting in accidents.

Pakistan Customs Stops Major Drug Smuggling Attempt
Pakistan Customs successfully stopped a large drug smuggling attempt from Balochistan to Karachi. Officials launched the operation after receiving a tip-off about the transportation of narcotics. A Customs spokesperson confirmed the operation and stated that they would take strict action against those involved.
Customs officers had received intelligence regarding a car carrying drugs to Karachi. In response, the authorities instructed the Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) teams stationed at RCD Highway, Northern Bypass, and Super Highway to increase surveillance and closely monitor suspicious vehicles.
At the Northern Bypass, ASO officials signalled a car with registration number BMS-188 to stop for inspection. However, the driver ignored the order and attempted to escape by steering the vehicle into a riverine area near the highway. Customs staff at the Super Highway were immediately informed and launched a coordinated search operation.
After an extensive search, officials located the abandoned vehicle. Realising that law enforcement was closing in, the driver had fled before officers could apprehend him. Despite the escape, Customs officers proceeded with a thorough inspection of the vehicle.
During the inspection, officers discovered 84.5 kilogrammes of hashish hidden inside the car. The estimated market value of the seized drugs is Rs14.2 million. Authorities took possession of both the vehicle and the drugs, ensuring they were secured as evidence.
Authorities have registered a formal case, and investigators are now working to trace the individuals responsible for the smuggling attempt.
Pakistan Customs remains committed to cracking down on drug smuggling, ensuring strict measures are in place to prevent narcotics from reaching cities. Authorities have urged citizens to report any suspicious activities to help combat smuggling and maintain law and order.

The salaried class paid Rs331 billion income tax in the eight months of the current fiscal year—1,350% more than retailers. However, the government was still unable to seek relief from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for the marginalised segment.
During the July–February period of this fiscal year, salaried individuals paid a total of Rs120 billion in income taxes, which is 56% more than the Rs211 billion collected during the same period last fiscal year.
Last year, the salaried class paid Rs368 billion in taxes. Despite this hefty burden on the salaried people, who pay taxes on the gross income without adjusting expenditures, the government did not lessen this burden with the IMF during the recently held talks.
In contrast to Rs331 billion income tax paid by the salaried people, the shopkeepers, primarily unregistered, contributed barely Rs23 billion on account of withholding income tax on their sales. The traders’ tax payment under section 236-H was 1,350% lower than the salaried individuals’ tax payment.
The wholesalers and distributors also paid Rs16 billion withholding tax in eight months as almost half of them were not registered with the FBR.
The Unfair Burden
The Rs331 billion income tax on the salaried class is the result of the massive unfair burden the government has put on them since last June by the reduction in slabs. The highest slab’s overall tax rate is 38.5% because the maximum 35% rate is now unjustly applied to a monthly income of Rs500,000 plus a 10% surcharge.
The tax target for March is Rs1.220 trillion, which the FBR will once more fall well short of. The FBR has a massive challenge of raising Rs704 billion this week after collecting Rs515 billion up to Sunday. The final working day before the Eid holidays is Friday.

Aramco clarifies free water bottles distributed in Ramadan were not Zam Zam
Saudi oil company Aramco issued a clarification after public commendations for offering complimentary water bottles and dates at its fuel outlets throughout Ramadan. Unlike popular perception, the company explained that the free water bottles were not Zam Zam water but plain bottled drinking water that was procured from a factory in Sheikhupura, Punjab.
Source: Arab News Pakistan
The gesture, intended as a goodwill initiative, was widely appreciated across Pakistan, with many lauding Aramco’s efforts to provide comfort to travelers during the holy month. However, the misunderstanding arose when some consumers, expecting the revered Zam Zam water, noticed the bottles were labeled as “Bottled Drinking Water.”
Addressing Consumer Concerns
The explanation by Aramco followed social media chatter, with some consumers complaining of disappointment over what they saw as misleading labeling. Most called for Aramco to provide clearer and more transparent labeling to prevent similar misunderstandings in the future.
While the company’s aim was to serve convenience and hospitality during Ramadan, it has taken seriously the feedback, clarifying that no statement was made about the bottles having Zam Zam water. The incident serves to underscore the sensitivity of religious feelings and the need for accurate communication in marketing campaigns.
Aramco’s Expansion in Pakistan
Aramco’s move is in accordance with its overall drive to make a mark in Pakistan’s fuel sector. In the previous year, the company opened its first branded gas station in Lahore, close to Liberty Chowk, in partnership with Gas & Oil Pakistan Ltd. (GO). The step followed Aramco’s acquisition of 40% of GO, one of Pakistan’s top petroleum marketing firms.
Source: Energy Connects
This strategic alliance is intended to raise fuel quality and customer service levels in Pakistan, especially as the energy needs of the country continue to grow. Aramco’s entry into Pakistan’s fuel market is likely to bring in high-end services and improve the overall consumer experience.
Learning from the Incident
The recent controversy regarding bottled water is a lesson for foreign market companies to be sensitive to cultural and religious sentiments. Aramco’s quick action reflects its dedication to responding to consumer issues and upholding a good image.
As the company further increases its presence in Pakistan, transparency and good communication will be essential in building its relationship with the locals.

Kamran Tessori Responded to Murtaza Wahab's Statement
Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori has responded to Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab’s statement, saying that his focus during Ramadan is entirely on serving the public, especially during Sehri and Iftar. He emphasised that his commitment to community service during this month leaves no time for anything else, particularly until after Sehri.
Tessori shared that he had the privilege of hosting Iftar for the Consuls General of Saudi Arabia, Iran, Oman, Turkiye, Malaysia, Russia and Bangladesh. Additionally, he had the honour of offering Iftar to 10,000 individuals at the Governor House. He stated that while serving the public, he also gains spiritual merit and highlighted that he provides daily gifts such as residential plots, Umrah tickets, motorcycles and phones, along with distributing Sehri at various locations.
Addressing Critics
He also addressed his critics, advising them to focus on making improvements instead of being jealous of the love and support he has received from the people. Tessori stated that this Ramadan, he has shown his commitment to all citizens and that people from all backgrounds—Muhajirs, Sindhis, Punjabis, Baloch and Pashtuns – consider him a brother and a son. He urged others to win hearts through service, saying that true success lies in public service, not in being envious of popularity.
Mayor Murtaza Wahab has urged the Prime Minister of Pakistan to fulfil his promises regarding Karachi’s development and called on MQM to clarify its stance on local government powers. Wahab said he has received a response from Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori and will reply soon.
During the inauguration of development projects near Machi Miani Market, Wahab emphasised that the Old City Area is the foundation of Karachi and assured that municipal issues, particularly the blocked sewerage system, were being addressed. He criticised the Governor for focusing on the Iftar and Sehri parties instead of addressing Karachi’s problems. He also called for the release of Rs100 billion that was promised for the city’s development.
Wahab further criticised MQM for its unclear stance on local governance, stating that while the party had previously supported grassroots governance, it now advocated for PIDCL to take over KMC’s responsibilities. He mentioned ongoing efforts to resolve Karachi’s water shortage and development projects in Keamari Fish Market and Lyari, adding that no obstacles in Karachi’s development would be tolerated.

Harbhajan Singh Criticised for Comparing Archer to ‘Black Taxi’
India’s legendary spinner Harbhajan Singh was criticised for racist comments after controversially comparing England fast bowler Jofra Archer to a “black taxi” during commentary for the IPL 2025 match between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). His statement came on Sunday during the 18th over of the first innings when Archer was bowling to SRH batters Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen.
As Klaasen hit consecutive boundaries against Archer, Harbhajan Singh criticised Archer on air, “London me kaali taxi ka meter tez bhaagta hai, Aur yaha pe Archer sahab ka meter bhi tez bhaaga hai (Like the meter of London’s black taxis, Archer’s meter has also been on the higher side.)”His remark left fans furious, leading to widespread criticism on social media. Many demanded his immediate suspension from the IPL 2025 commentary panel.
Meanwhile, Jofra Archer had a difficult outing in his first IPL 2025 match, conceding 76 runs without taking a wicket. His bowling figures set a new unwanted record, becoming the most expensive spell in IPL history, surpassing Mohit Sharma’s 0/73 for Gujarat Titans against Delhi Capitals last year.
On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad had a record-breaking day, registering their fourth 250-plus total in T20 cricket, the most ever by any team, overtaking India and Surrey. They fell just two runs short of breaking their own IPL record for the highest total, scoring 286/6 against Rajasthan. Their highest total remains 287/3 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2024.
Ishan Kishan played a crucial role for SRH, smashing his maiden IPL century in just 45 balls. His explosive knock helped Sunrisers defeat Rajasthan Royals by 44 runs, getting their IPL 2025 campaign off to a winning start.
Despite SRH’s dominant performance, Harbhajan’s controversial remark has taken centre stage, with cricket fans and analysts debating the implications of his words.

Pakistan’s First PKR-Denominated Green Bond Launched To Accelerate Climate Finance
In a groundbreaking move for Pakistan’s sustainability-focused financial sector, Parwaaz Financial Services Limited (PFSL), a subsidiary of Karandaaz Pakistan, has launched the country’s first-ever PKR-denominated Green Bond under the Parwaaz Green Action Bond initiative. The bond, which is also the first ever Green Bond to be listed on the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), aims to mobilise capital for environmentally sustainable projects and strengthen Pakistan’s green investment ecosystem.
The PKR 1 billion bond includes investment commitments from leading financial institutions—including Bank Alfalah, Bank of Khyber, Allied Bank, Pak Brunei Investment Company Ltd., Pak China Investment Company Ltd., Pak Libya Holding Company Ltd., Pak Oman Investment Company, Saudi Pak Industrial & Agricultural Investment Company Ltd., and Al Falah Insurance. The initiative reflects strong investor confidence in Pakistan’s green finance sector.
At the launch, Mr. Muhammad Aurangzeb, Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, underscored its importance: “Pakistan’s economic resilience depends on our ability to embrace sustainability in finance. The launch of this Green Bond is a testament to our commitment to fostering an investment-friendly environment for climate initiatives. This initiative not only aligns with the transformation of Pakistan’s financial sector but also paves the way for attracting green investments at scale.”
The UK has played a key role in bringing today’s Bond to market, including through specialist expertise to help structure it. PFSL received technical assistance from the UK government’s Mobilising Institutional Capital Through Listed Product Structures (MOBILIST) programme. Karandaaz Pakistan was also created with significant UK support. British High Commissioner, Jane Marriott CMG OBE, said: “This Green Bond is a brilliant example of how intelligent financial innovation can drive both private sector led economic growth and greater climate resilience. Pakistan needs $348 billion by 2030 to adapt and make the green transition, so the need to mobilise climate finance has never been more urgent. Congratulations to those who have helped to deliver today’s Bond, which is good for the economy and good for the planet.”
Karandaaz Pakistan has been at the forefront of mobilizing green finance. Syed Salim Raza, Chairperson of the Karandaaz Pakistan Board, reiterated Karandaaz’s long-term commitment to sustainability, stating, “Our vision for green finance is rooted in long-term economic resilience. This bond demonstrates that Pakistan can attract serious investment in sustainability-focused projects while ensuring that financial growth does not come at the cost of environmental degradation. The success of this initiative will pave the way for a more robust green financing ecosystem in the country.”
Speaking at the launch, Waqas ul Hasan, CEO of Karandaaz Pakistan, described the bond as “not just a milestone for Karandaaz and Parwaaz Financial Services but a defining moment for the entire financial sector of Pakistan. Karandaaz is proud to lead the way in mobilizing capital for green investments, ensuring financial instruments work for both economic progress and environmental sustainability. We will continue to strive for instruments which enable capital allocation to development outcomes of the country”
The bond builds upon PFSL’s existing track record in green financing. Mr. Javed Iqbal, CEO of PFSL, highlighted that “This bond is the result of years of strategic effort to create financial instruments that generate measurable environmental and economic impact. By directing capital into renewable energy and clean transportation, we are not only financing infrastructure but also laying the foundation for Pakistan’s green transition.”
