Facebook to Launch Digital Literacy Programs in Pakistan to Monitor Online Harassment

Facebook Digital Program

Facebook is considering to launch Digital Literacy Programs in Pakistan in 2020, partnering with local bodies like the Digital Rights Foundation (DRF).

These programs will educate the users about the safe usage of social media platforms as well as reporting mechanisms.

Most of the content on Facebook is actually restricted in Pakistan, still many of the harassment cases went unreported.

This mostly happen because users are unknown to the reporting mechanism though policies at the Social network are very effective.

Facebook disclosed this news at an awareness talk held this Thursday in Islamabad where the title of the discussion was “Creating Safe Online Spaces: Safety for Women”. The speaker contributed by saying that use of social media is becoming more and more restrictive for women. And the need or challenge of ensuring the safety of social media user is increasing day by day.

Regardless of gender, the surge of harassment case and reluctance in reporting has led the network to introduce these literacy programs in Pakistan. They will help the audience in rectifying the content and reported it accordingly.

Facebook has zero tolerance policy against children exploitation and teenage users. The head of safety policy of the region Asia-Pacific added:

“This year, over five million pieces on child exploitation were removed globally and 99 per cent were detected by the artificial intelligence tools,” by Ms. Amber Hawkes.

Even the types of cases were discussed by the head of DRF Program, Shmyla Khan. Online threats faced by Pakistani women include; non-consensual use of intimate images, extortion and blackmailing, accessing/hacking private data, graphic threats of violence and abusive comments and even trolling. The cases are not limited to women and children but also men.

The online harassment cases do limit the number of female users and there is a vivid difference of 43% between the two genders. Female being the lesser one. To know more about these digital literacy programs by Facebook you can also visit the link given below.

Gulab-Jaman-Pizza

We have seen the most bizarre food concoction but this time your mind is surely going to be blown by the latest fusion we have seen on the internet today.

Internet is seriously losing their minds over a Gulab Jaman pizza. Yeah you read this correctly. Gulab Jaman on a pizza!

Gulab Jaman is our national dessert and everybody loves pizza. Both together not only this sounds absurd but also an abomination.

This food combination is certainly not a ” Rab nay bana di jori” and the internet can’t handle it! The twitter went insane and everybody started expressing their shock that something like this can even happen. Initial this crazy dessert was shared by Naya Daur Media, a private online media publication.

With in minutes, the twitteristan started sharing their earnest feeling about this crazy food variation.

Some even consider this as food blasphemy. We Pakistanis surely take our food quite seriously and don’t like any jokes about it.

This one actually got us in fits! Cousin marriage and gulab jaman pizza is actually disapproved.

Twitter was not the only social platform, Reddit Pakistan has a whole thread dedicated to this new kind of pizza.

Gulab Jamun Pizza from pakistan

Wonder who invented this sort of unusual pizza and if it is actually in a menu of a restaurant. We certainly don’t dare to try this abnormal combo. We wonder how Italians would react to such kind of pizza if they ever got a whiff of what people around the world are doing to pizza. And if you think you have seen all then please forgive us as the agonizing sight of banana will definitely sore you eyes.

Tell us if you have the guts to try out the actual gulab jaman pizza. Share you thoughts on this in the comment section.

Pakistani Officials Accused of Covering up Most Dangerous Polio Outbreak

polio outbreak

According to a source in Pakistan’s polio eradication programme and documentation seen by the Guardian, a dozen children have been infected with the P2 strain of polio, which causes paralysis and primarily effects those under five.

Dr Malik Safi, coordinator of the national emergency operation centre of the Pakistan polio eradication programme, confirmed the P2 outbreak, but refused to give any further comment apart from the confirmation.

It is alleged that the new cases, which have all resulted in paralyses, were deliberately kept hidden from the government and international donors, including the UK’s Department for International Development.

Karachiites to Witness a Drop to 20-Degrees in Temperature!

The Pakistani law requires that every single case of polio that emerges must be registered with the government officially so that international health bodies can be alerted. Hiding the cases is a sign of an attempt at hiding the incompetence of the officials.

The alleged cases have been discovered mainly in Diamer district, with one in the capital, Islamabad.

Pakistan and Afghanistan are now the only two countries in the world that have failed to entirely eradicate polio despite constant polio vaccination drives.

Here’s what a source had to say about it:

“Somewhere, somebody has inaccurately used this vaccine and because of this negligence … this virus was brought back into the environment and our children are again getting infected with P2,”

“This P2 outbreak can only be contained if they do a quality vaccination campaign, and how can you do a quality campaign if you are carrying it out in secret, without any awareness or accountability?”

“If anything goes wrong and this P2 polio spreads throughout the whole country, who will take responsibility? Will they just keep telling more lies to cover up their mistakes and put more children at risk?”

Atif Aslam Took a Jibe at the Famous “2 takay ki aurat” Dialogue from Mere Pass Tum Ho

Adnan and Atif

This week the only viral content we came across was a dialogue from the hit drama serial Mere Pass Tum Ho!

“Do Takay ki Aurat” was like seed for the content on the internet and the amount of memes we saw on this was insane.

When everyone was contributing in burning fire, Atif Aslam didn’t hesitate one bit from throwing his own concoction of the dialogue.

Apparently the “magician of vocal” and the main lead from the drama ” Mere Pass Tum” Adnan Sidique was standard at Dubai Airport. While they were waiting for their flight. Adnan took the opportunity just to update his fans on Instagram by sharing a small video.

The video is just an innocent update with a little surprise, but Atif Aslam quirky sneer had us in laughing fits. Who knew the one who sings in such a miraculous voice have such funny sense of humor. We sort of now know that singing isn’t his hidden talent but satire is!

In the video we heard Atif Aslam repeat the viral dialouge with his own twist:

Adnan, app bohot barey businessman hain. App nay iss Do takkay ki flight kay liye, 50 million ki video bana di”

The audience found Atif’s version of this line even funnier and the comments were the evidence.

Adnan Siddiqui

We have seen the most absurd content on internet to get viral but this one dialogue will spread like a wildfire, nobody has anticipated that! The new episode will air this Saturday, do you think it will make such a huge rumble on social media?

Let us know what are your views about this Mere Pass tum Ho in the comments below.

Billboards in Amritsar Appreciating Imran Khan Taken Down

kartarpur project

PM Imran Khan showed plenty of generosity by opening the Kartarpur Corridor for the Sikh community.

The Kartarpur Corridor is an under-construction border corridor between India and Pakistan, connecting the Sikh shrines of Dera Baba Nanak Sahib and Gurdwara Darbar Sahib.

Over 2,000 Sikh pilgrims from India arrived at Gurdwara Nankana Sahib in Pakistan’s Punjab province to mark the 550th birth anniversary of Sikhism founder Guru Nanak Dev, ahead of the opening of the landmark Kartarpur Corridor.

Imran Khan also announced that no visa would be required for the sikhs visiting on November 9th in order to facilitate them further.

The Sikhs, on the other hand, reciprocated with kindness by putting up billboards with pictures of Prime Minister Khan and Indian politician Navjot Singh Sidhu across Amritsar, calling them the Real Heroes for encouraging peace and harmony by making the Kartarpur Corridor a reality.

However, the billboards were taken down by authorities in Amritsar only hours after they were put up.

As a result, the Sikh community of Amritsar has announced that it will stage sit-ins and protests against this move by the government.

KP School Bag Act 2019 to Relieve Schoolchildren of Heavy School bags

In a country where the literacy rate is already lower than it should be, nobody focuses on the size of the school-going children’s bags because just the fact that they’re lucky enough to go to a school is enough.

Therefore, it is a common sight to see little schoolchildren with schoolbags larger than their own bodies.

Thankfully, somebody took notice: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has drafted the ‘Khyber Pakhtunkhwa School Bag Act 2019’ with the aim to relieve school-going students from carrying heavy schoolbags.

Expected to be presented in the provincial assembly soon, a fine worth Rs 500,000 alongside other punishments will be applied upon non-complying educational institutions who refuse to adhere to it.

Below are the factors that will be used to keep a check on the act’s compliance:

  • The quality of the bags and the material they’re made of.
  • The weight of the bags (shouldn’t exceed 10% of the schoolchild’s body weight)
  • Wooden slates would be mandatory for all students of up to Class 8

The observation of the act will also mean that educational institutions must provide lockers or desks with drawers to their schoolchildren, so study materials can be safely stored in the school instead of adding up as extra weight on their shoulders.

The act sounds like a good idea because heavy school bags can cause fatigue, muscle strain, back pain, distortion of the spine’s natural curves, rounding of the shoulders, poor body posture, and short attention spans.

Heavy school bags are also known causes of cervical and lumbar pains. Convincing claims also point out that reduction and shortening of the lumbar spine in proportion to the weight of the school bag will result in overloading and degenerative changes in the spine.

Such changes are known causes of back pain in later years. It has also been reported that growth points in the bones from which bones grow will be damaged by carrying excessively heavy school bags, resulting in abnormal or stunted growth.

What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments.

KB19 – 2ND KARACHI BIENNALE FIRST THREE PRIZE WINNERS ANNOUNCED

KARACHI BIENNALE 2019

KB19, the 2nd Karachi Biennale, which is showcasing eighty-nine projects by ninety-eight artists at seven historic and iconic venues across the city of Karachi until 12 November 2019 has released details of its first three prize winners.

The theme of this year’s biennale is Ecology and KB19 invited artists to unpack the cultural dimension of the contemporary crisis of unsustainability, as well as its cultural roots and the origins of this narrative.

Three prizes were awarded at the opening ceremony: the KB19 Peek Freans Emerging Artist Prize, the KB19 Mahvash and Jahangir Siddiqui Foundation Juried Art Prize and the KB19 HM Habib Lifetime Achievement Award.

The final two prizes, the KB19 Langdon-Malik Foundation Performance Art Prize and the KB19 Shahneela and Farhan Faruqui Popular Choice Prize Art Prize
will be given at the closing ceremony on 12 November.

KB19 Peek Freans Emerging Artist Prize
This prize was created to recognize a young interdisciplinary artist under 30 with extraordinary ability to envision the KB19 theme, Ecology. This prize aims to encourage and introduce a new generation of exceptional Pakistani artistic talent. The Prize has generated tremendous interested and been incredibly inclusive.

Applications were received from across the country, including Malakand, Peshawar, Lahore, Hyderabad and Karachi. The jurors were Adeel uz Zafar, Waheeda Bano and Muhammad Zeeshan. The KB19 Peek Freans Emerging Artist Prize was awarded to Arsalan Nasir, for his work In Karachi Live Birds Who Fly From Trees, 2019. In keeping with the KB19 biennale theme, internationally known Iranian/British artist and academic researcher Mohsen Keiany using recycled materials created an exclusive sculptural medallion for this prize.

Arsalan Nasir’s work focuses on the rise of urbanization. As cities like Karachi grow larger, this brings an increase in the interaction between wildlife and urban ecosystems. The horizon of Karachi testifies the change it has faced in the past two decades as it is interrupted by high rise buildings, tangles of wires, mobile towers. With tangible and intangible dangers, our need for communication has become an invisible enemy for wildlife, specifically for birds.

What began as a jungle of hanging wires rapidly transformed into large urban areas being comprised of high rising mobile towers that pose a number of threats to birds: death by collision, exposure to harmful radiation, lack of natural nesting places, and interference of mobile towers with the Earth’s natural magnetic field for navigation that birds use.

Using the ring toss game, his aim is to engage the audience in an immersive experience so that the activity of playing can be transformed into an activity of realizing and learning. The close, handheld interaction brings to realization the idea of how close at hand this disturbance in nature is occurring.

KB19 Mahvash and Jahangir Siddiqui Foundation Juried Art Prize
For the second consecutive biennale, (KB17 and KB19) the Juried Art Prize is sponsored by Mahvash and Jahangir Siddiqui Foundation. This prize was created to recognise one national or international participating artist of KB19.

This award revolves around identification of exceptional talent and work based on originality of creativity, interpretation of the theme, innovative use of material and imagination of depiction.

The jurors were Amna Naqvi (Art Collector and owner of the AAN Ghandhara Art Space), Ingo Arend (Art Critic and Cultural Journalist) and Stephen Welsh (Art Curator, Manchester Museum). The KB19 Mahvash and Jahangir Siddiqui Foundation Juried Art Prize was awarded to Rashid Rana for his installation, Beauty Lies, 2019. Artist, Assad Hussain, was commissioned to create the bespoke trophy.

Rashid Rana’s installation unfolds in two parts: a video projection and a photo montage. In the performative video, Rashid Rana evokes references to the iconic painting Wanderer above the Sea of Fog by Caspar David Friedrich, as Rana stands amidst one of the largest garbage dumping sites. The structure of the work is reminiscent of a painting from the past but it also relates to one’s own reality: of being exposed to waste, especially in the port city of Karachi.

The situation of being exposed to trash at close hand, the experience of the single artist/the maker is repeated and experienced by the viewer/visitor as he/she stands in front of the second part of the installation.

The photo montage, and the flatness and vastness of the seascape reveals images of trash and waste plastic bags in great numbers giving the illusion of sea waves with pictures of sailing ships inserted within. These are three chapters of the same story which refers to colonialism and then consumerism that produces affluence (as well as ‘refuse’) far beyond its need or control.

Rahat Fateh Ali’s ‘Tose Naina Lede’ from Dabang 3 Removed By Salman Khan; Reports!

Rahet and Salman

Salman Khan reportedly drops Rahat Fateh Ali Khan vocals for “Tose Naina Lede”, a song from the latest installment of Dabang series.

The Pakistani singer was dropped after the recording due to the increasing tension between the two countries and unofficial Pakistani artist ban in Bollywood.

The legendary singer has been replaced by famous Indian singer Javed Ali for this song specially just to avoid any troubles.

The previous two movies has iconic hits songs by Rahat featuring Salman Khan and Sonakshi Sinha. “Teray Mast Mast do Nain” in Dabang 1 and “Teray Naina Bade Dagabaaz Re” in Dabang 2 both has the soulful voice of Rahat.

One of the spokesman closer to the project claim the popularity of songs on Rahat vocals. The recording went really well and the decision was taken after the editing by the production and the Dabang star Salman Khan.

Initially Salman was the one who got the singer on board for the romantic song as per the movie’s ritual. Rahat was also the first choice of music director Sajid-Wajid and they were also really happy with the outcome of the song. But the escalating tension has forced them to drop his vocals and replace it with an Indian singer.

Though we haven’t heard anything from Rahat at the moment on this news. But we will surely going to miss his voice for the song. Earlier this year Mika Singh also came under fire in Bollywood for performing at a wedding in Karachi.

Many Indian Celebrities do condemn this cross boarder tension and this unofficial ban on Pakistani Artist but they all being cautious to avoid any backlash or controversy.

Do you guys think this artist ban is justified? Share you views in the comments below.

The song went viral among the Indian Sikh community and appraises come pouring in by the community on twitter.

The song was released in the special inauguration ceremony in Islamabad by the assistant of Prime Minster Pakistan on Information and Broadcasting, Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan. The members of the Sikh community were also present in this ceremony from Indian and Pakistan.

Many Sikh expressed their delight on the opening ceremony as well as the song on twitter.

And some just being thankful that they are visiting Kartarpur Corridor.

Even some Youtubers love the songs and their reactions are priceless.

The main idea behind the opening of Kartarpur corridor is to facilitate the Sikh yatree to visit their sacred religious Grudwara Darbar Sahib. This Grudwara actually connects to Dera Baba Nanak Shrine in Gurdaspur in India. Hence Kartapur becomes a passageway from one Grudwara to another and its easier to commute also.

Not just that the Sikh Pilgrims coming to Kartarpur were given visa and passport free entry for this special inaugural event. The song is composed on real Punjabi beats and features lyrics about friendship between the two nations.

The whole world has applauded these efforts by Pakistani Government special in such circumstances when we are not on the ideal terms with our neighbors.  But this step will show our soft image to the world and speared the words of harmony.

Do you guys this opening will mend the terms with our neighbor? Share your views on this development with us in the comment below.

The young boy hailing from grassroots in Chakwal won the medals in three different categories, including weapons, fighting, and self-defense.

The talented young Akubakr has also won competitions in the Dojo Karate squad that serve as qualifiers for the world championship.

All my success is due to my parents and my trainer at the club; they have supported me all the way through. It’s been two years here at the club and I have worked really hard. It wouldn’t have been possible without them. -Muhammad Abubakr Farooq

Abubakr’s father also commented on the special occasion;

Asian parents tend to focus on education more often. We should focus on our children’s education but sports is where our Asian community is not very supportive of their children. As a parent, if we support they can become a role model in society.

At the age of just eight, he is an inspiration for so many kids who were busy playing computer games but after Abubakr’s success in martial arts, so many young kids have joined martial arts clubs. It’s an honour for us as a parent that our son became the youngest British-Pakistani to win three medals at the championship.

At the mere age of 8, the young boy has already made the nation proud. Hats-off to the little champion.
