Govt of Pakistan Issues Official Tsunami Awareness Message to Pakistanis

Pakistan”s coastal areas, particularly the Makran Subduction Zone (MSZ), had major tsunami threats that under went a destructive tsunamigenic earthquake in 1945.

Over 4,000 casualties were caused because of it, and a major chunk of the damage was owed to the lack of casualty awareness in the country.

When two huge tectonic plates collide, the pressure and friction is great enough that the material in the Earth”s mantle can melt, and both earthquakes and volcanoes can result”, he told.

According to Zahid Rafi, Director National Seismic Monitoring Centre, Subduction zones are places of high activity.

The UN General Assembly designated 5 November as World Tsunami Awareness Day four years ago, in December 2015.

Zahid Rafi said it is pertinent to inform that National Seismic Monitoring and Tsunami Early Warning Centre set up by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) in Karachi with the assistance of UNESCO was running round the clock and efficiently performing Seismic monitoring.

Considering the vulnerability of country’s coastal areas of Sindh and Balochistan including Karachi city of 20 million people, PMD conducts awareness sessions and drills to educate people about the developing stages of Tsunami flood and safety measures.

The Government of Pakistan’s official Twitter account made a post today about the same:

Well, it is better to be safe than to be sorry!

Popular Comedian Takes a Hilarious Dig at Meray Paas Tum Ho! [Watch Video]

faiza saleem meray paas tum ho

Starring the popular and legendary Humayun Saeed, Adnan Siddiqui and Ayeza Khan, Meray Paas Tum Ho by ARY Digital has been making waves on the internet for a number of reasons.

The drama’s story revolves mainly around the theme of cheating in a marriage, so needless to say, it has created quite a conversation around the subject.

While most of the stories we see on the theme of cheating show men as cheaters, this story throws light on the aspect of women cheating on their husbands, which automatically makes it all the more sensational and controversial.

Samina Peerzada’s Stance on A Scene from Meray Pass Tum Ho Goes Viral!

So much so that Ayeza Khan herself gave a warning before the last episode went on air:

The drama is written by Khalil ur Rehman Qamar, who was also recently interviewed and caught himself in the eye of a social media storm for his misogynistic point of views.

Do Takay ki Aurat, a phrase from the dialogues of Meray Paas Tum Ho, is also getting widely popular.

So popular that Faiza Saleem, renowned comedian and artist decided to make a hilarious video on it.

Take a look at the video here:

Addressing the subject with a satirical, feministic lens, she talks about the way women are treated- rather mistreated- in the society and how the cheating of a married man will always be justified but when a woman does the same thing, she becomes Do takay ki Aurat (cheap, worthless).

McDonald’s Fires CEO Over Secret Relationship with Employee

McDonalds

McDonald’s has fired President and CEO Steve Easterbrook. The reason behind this decision is that Easterbrook was found having a secret relationship with an employee.

Having a relationship with an employee is against the company’s policy. He “has separated from the company” after the board determined that he “violated company policy and demonstrated poor judgment involving a recent consensual relationship with an employee,” McDonald’s said in a statement.

Furthermore, Easterbrook has now been replaced by McDonald’s U.S. president Chris Kempczinski. In an email sent to McDonald’s employees, he acknowledged his affair and that it violated company policy.

He added that “this was a mistake. Given the values of the Company, I agree with the Board that it is time for me to move on. Beyond this, I hope you can respect my desire to maintain my privacy.”

Easterbrook had taken the position of CEO in March 2015 after serving as the chief brand officer.

One the other hand, Kempczinski, in an email, has shared “I’m thrilled to be leading this incredible company. Working alongside our talented team, our board, our franchisees, and suppliers, I am committed to upholding our rich heritage of serving our customers and driving value for our shareholders and other stakeholders.”

Facebook’s New Corporate Identity Brings its Family of Apps Together

Facebook

Tech-titan Facebook has unveiled its new logo. The corporate identity has been designed to represent the company as the parent of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and more.

Although the label reads facebook, the color coordination, and bland, generic look hint something else.

Reportedly, the logo is supposed to be put to use in the “coming weeks” within Facebook products and marketing materials.

We had heard earlier that Facebook would soon do something like this and add their logo to their products to show ownership.

Jianguo Pro 3: Price, Specification, Features & More

According to the company, the new corporate identity uses custom typography and is “designed for clarity,” with the goal of creating a “visual distinction between the company and app.”

Facebook says the goal of including “from Facebook” is to let people know that its apps have “shared infrastructure” and rely on many of the same teams. “People should know which companies make the products they use,” writes Antonio Lucio, Facebook’s chief marketing officer.

Furthermore, Lucio added that the company even considered renaming the parent company, however, the idea was dropped.

There’s still a question in the pipeline whether changing the logo will help the company come out of the dark times they have had to face especially after the Cambridge Analytica scandal and everything else that followed.

Mahira Khan Cheered Her BFF in Her Latest Instagram Post!

Mahira and Naroo

The mega star Mahira Khan has served some major bff goals in her latest Instagram post. Khan is really vocal and time to time she expresses herself on social networks.

In her recent Instagram post, Mahira went all mushy and emotional while praising her best friend from the time they were practically babies. Narissa Dharani was not just her fun partner but also a strong support system throughout the years.

While reminiscing old times Superstar actress also disclosed some of the difficult times they both had and it was actually very relatable. Mahira even mention how Naroo coped-up her father’s death and became a strong pillar for her mother and sister.

Khan also show the gratitude she has for Narissa, as she was the one who took Mahira and her brother in when they were literally kicked out of their apartment.

View this post on Instagram

I want to tell you all this story.. story of a girl I met years and years ago. Story of someone who has the biggest heart in the world. I remember meeting Naroo in college thanks to @sanahafeezsheikh 😘🙏🏼 Blaring desi music and some algebra books in her car. That was it. She was there for me when no one was around. She put up with my loser behaviour. She listened patiently while I told her all my dreams. She used to wake up in cold sweats when her father passed away while we were in college, she would cry.. but she never let her mother see it. She protected her sisters fiercely. And at the age of 23 she took over a then small company of her fathers. She worked day and night, surrounded by only men ( at that point). And all the while still making us all feel that she’s there for us. And day before, when I watched her on stage making her dream come true, it felt like life had come a full circle. She is the only female CEO in the automotive industry in Pakistan. She told all of us that once at a conference they were welcomed as – Good evening Lady and Gentlemen. Aaaah! I truly believe success comes from hard work and good intentions. But dreams.. dreams come true because some kindness somewhere has just worked, someone’s prayers for you have been accepted. And imagine someone who is always kind to people, that’s my naroo.. ♥️ Naroo, the day Penny kicked us out of our apartment and you took me and Hissaan in, I prayed for you so hard. I believe my prayers have something to do with you being on that stage, as does anyone who has known you because that’s ALOT of prayers. I love you and have always been proud of you. To you my Naroo, to you forever inshAllah 💋

A post shared by Mahira Khan (@mahirahkhan) on

The whole post was about praising Narissa Dharani and the success she has endured while working super hard from a really young age. And now Naroo, as Mahira likes to call her, is the only female CEO in automotive industry of Pakistan!

“And day before, when I watched her on stage making her dream come true, it felt like life had come a full circle. She is the only female CEO in the automotive industry in Pakistan. She told all of us that once at a conference they were welcomed as – Good evening Lady and Gentlemen. Aaaah!”

These are the pure words one could write for a friend and we just love how expressive Mahira is!

We really wish we had a BFF/cheerleader like Mahira. It’s very rare to see such strong friendships that keep growing strong in this industry. We really hope both Mahira and Naroo stays in each other’s life forever and stay as strong as they are now.

Students in Pakistan Finally Allowed to Form Student Unions After a 35 Year Ban

Pakistani students have spent 35 years without being able to exercise the basic right of forming student unions in all educational institutions in the country.

This deprivation was a result to General Zia ul Haq’s attempt in 1984 to curb increasing clashes between ideologically different student groups.

The ban, however, failed to serve the purpose and instead stifled the intellectual growth and social development of students.

Student unions are important as they give students a platform that allows them to practice skills of diplomacy, debate, politics and leadership.

#ChaiKaNishaan Explains Why You Must Keep Tea Away From Your Children

Without regulated student unions, students tend to find refuge in various groups based on religious, ethnic and geographic associations. The purpose, of course, is protection of rights of affiliated students. But it becomes problematic because the groups work for the benefit of the parts, not whole of the student body.

Thankfully, after almost 35 years, the Sindh Assembly decided yesterday (November 4th, 2019) to lift the ban on student unions from Sindh. The resolution, moved by Pakistan Peoples Party MPA Nida Khuhro and supported by all opposition parties in the assembly, demanded the revival of student unions as well as the maintenance of a healthy environment within the educational institutions of the province.

While reading out the resolution, here’s what Nida Khuhro said:

“It is of utmost importance for the youth of Sindh to actively and meaningfully participate in the democratic, social, cultural and political processes of their country and of the province,”

Shopkeepers in Japan to Start Charging Customers for Plastic Bags!

japan plastic bags

Japanese retailers including supermarkets and convenience stores will be required to charge for plastic bags by next summer ahead of the Tokyo Olympics, a government panel agreed Friday the 1st of November.

The new move brings Japan in line with many other countries that have already adopted the environmentally friendly measure, but it will only come into effect in July 2020.

It seems that the Say No to Plastic revolution has truly begun! Even in Pakistan it was officially announced that no stores would sell their goods in plastic bags after October, 2019.

Adidas Vows to Produce 11 Million Shoes Using Recycled Ocean Plastic!

Moreover, there won’t be a set price for a bag, with every retailer able to decide how much to charge.

The government will try to “ingrain the habit among consumers of bringing bags” and aid them in understanding the move as “a step towards transforming their lifestyle”, according to the plan.

It comes after the major economies of the G20 agreed on a deal at a meeting in Japan’s host nation in June to reduce marine plastic waste.

However, a lot of Campaigners have critiqued the East Asian country for taking this action very slowly and reducing plastic consumption – chiefly as it produces more plastic packaging waste per capita than any nation apart from the United States, according to the UN.

Japan is venturing an enviable waste management program, and 86 percent of its plastic waste is recycled by the state.

Nevertheless, much of that “recycling” includes merely incinerating plastic, also producing energy –  a method that produces carbon dioxide and contributes to climate change.

Female Pakistani Scientist is Using Mango Skin to Create Water-Soluble Bio-Plastic Bags!

Japan is shipping about 10% of its plastic waste for reuse overseas. Nevertheless, environmentalist research shows that if poorly burned, the waste can end up in the ocean or release toxic pollutants.

Furthermore, In 2018, the government of Japan launched a plan to tackle plastic waste, with the goal of eliminating by a quarter by 2030 the country’s 9.4 million tons generated each year.

Pakistan Closes Embassy in Afghanistan, No Visas to be Issued Until Further Notice

Pakistan’s embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan has closed the consular office owing to security issues as a result of Pakistani diplomats being harassed by NDS operatives.

Their vehicles chased and a hit and run attempt was made by NDS guys on bikes.

The office issues around 1500 visas to Afghans on a daily basis, and has announced an closure of the consular section of its embassy in Kabul for an indefinite period of time.

“I’m sorry for being me” – Rabi Pirzada Pleads to be Saved

This means that no visas will be issued from yesterday onwards until they decide to reopen the office.

Moreover, Islamabad summoned Afghanistan’s charge d’affaires on the weekend to protest the harassment Pakistani diplomats went through.

Here’s what a statement issued by the Pakistani mission said:

“Due to security reasons, Consular Section of the Embassy of Pakistan, Kabul will be closed from tomorrow Monday, 4th November, 2019 until further intimation.”

And here’s what the statement issued by the Foreign Office said:

“The Afghan Charge d’affaires was summoned today to convey serious concerns over the safety and security of the diplomatic personnel of the Embassy of Pakistan, Kabul, and its sub-missions.”

Needless to say, it is the responsibility of the Afghan government to ensure the safety, security, and freedom of the diplomats residing there.

Pakistan has asked Afghan authorities to urgently look into the security violation and ensure that such an incident does not occur again.

“I’m sorry for being me” – Rabi Pirzada Pleads to be Saved

Pakistani pop singer has found herself in the eye of a social media storm after compromising photos and videos of her got leaked.

While a huge chunk of the Pakistani population has found a new way to pass their time through insulting and shaming her for the act.

Not so surprisingly, the population seems more concerned about the singer sharing those photos with someone she trusted instead of being concerned about the person who leaked them.

#ChaiKaNishaan Explains Why You Must Keep Tea Away From Your Children

Rabi herself took to her Twitter account to post seemingly cryptic tweets that suggest how badly she wants to be saved from the mess.

Take a look at her tweets:

In another tweet, which also happens to be her most recent one, she apologizes for being herself.

In the midst of this storm, celebrities, fan and followers decided to stand up for her, as they consider her the victim of the situation, and soon the hashtag #IamRabiPirzada emerged and began to trend on Twitter.

Meesha Shafi, Pakistani singer and model also took to Twitter and categorically spoke about why she extends her support to Rabi in this situation.

Womens rights activist and lawyer, Nighat Dad shed light on the matter to make such victims aware of their legal rights over this matter.

Those who are weaponizing nonconsensual intimate images and videos of @Rabipirzada and those who are forwarding them are committing crime under PECA. Don’t be a silent bystander, report these tweets and do not forward this violence.

Honda Atlas Brings the 4th Price Hike of this Year!

Honda Atlas

Honda Atlas brought yet another price hike of this year. This is the second time they have increased prices in last two months and 4th of this year.

Atlas is one of the biggest bike manufacturers in Pakistan. Previously we saw the hike in the start of the year and all the blame was given to increased import duties.

The company imports most of the parts and assemble bikes at the local manufacturing plants.

Honda isn’t the only manufacturer that has bombarded us with soaring prices. Many other local companies have given this sad news to the buyers already. But atlas seems consistent with the increase. Even getting a bike will burn a huge gigantic hole in your pocket!

Honda Atlas

Yamaha, United, and Pak Suzuki Motor Company are the few big bike manufacturer and all have been actively participating in the price jump.

Honda has been seeing a serious decline in the sells throughout the year. But as per the company, this time elevating prices are due to the unstable dollar prices in the country. Although the rise is among all the units meaning Honda will sell the older batches on recent rates.

Last year we saw the similar pattern by the local bike producers and some even end up with the increase of 10 to 15% at the end of 4th quarter.

The latest prices by Honda Atlas, official by November 1st, 2019 are:

Honda CD 70 -> New price is Rs69,500 (Rs2,600 price increase)

Honda CD Dream -> New price is Rs73,500 (Rs2,600 price increase)

Honda Pridor -> New price is Rs95,500 (Rs3,100 price increase)

Honda CG 125 -> New price is Rs114,500 (Rs3,600 price increase)

Honda CB 150F -> New price is Rs187,000 (Rs8,000 price increase)

We still have a month left, let’s see if the local manufacturers disappoint the buyers more. Do you think the price hikes are justified? Or the local brands are making extra cash?

We will be updating you with all the current happening, stay tuned to Brandsynario.

Newsline Magazine, an Editorial Dream Coming to an end!

Newsline

Almost completing three decades in the journalism world, the Newsline magazine known for its “independent and courageous ” journalism will be coming to an end as announced by Rehana Hakim, the Editor of the magazine.

She attributes the closure to the financial constraints of The HUM Network as it is under the ownership of the media company. The magazine’s first issue was published on July 1, 1989, led by the late Razia Bhatti and the last will be on November 30th 2019 under the editorial leadership of Rehana Hakim.

As per a HUM spokesman, the final decision is still pending, but the news has left the readers and Newlines contributors really emotional. We might read the last publication in December 2019.

The respected journalist Afia Salam who is a part of Newsline also expresses her feeling about the ceasing decision

Twitter start pouring in their reaction as the speculation surfaced. The users shared their affiliation with the magazine by reminiscing the old times.

Some blamed the digital age to be the reason for this decision of closure of the print magazine.

Even the co-founder of the Newsline magazine expresses her grief in her latest article for a private publication.

“Legally, we no longer owned Newsline and the decision to cease publication was rightfully the owner’s, but emotionally and idealistically perhaps we will always own Newsline because it was always so much more than just a publishing project…it was always about making the dream of editorial integrity a reality. by Umber Khiari”

We did get a word from a spokesman at HUM Network Limited, and according to them:

“The decision is pending from the management and soon they will update the audience.”

BMW Trolls Mercedes for Halloween 2019!

BMW has a cheeky way to wish its rivals Mercedes on Halloween. The brand came up with a social media post where Mercedes AMG E53 was dress as its favorite superhero.

This is not the first time the rivals have participated in preppy fun jabs at each other. Not long ago Mercedes found an eccentric way to wish BMW on its 100th anniversary.

Benz invited the Munich based auto-motive’s employees to its museum to learn the full history of cars. Very humble of them!

Benz was not done here! An intriguing video post full of satire on its Instagram was another jab brand took on BMW. The 5 sec video was just a simple wish mentioning that 30 years before BMW was plan and boring. The subtlety in troll is commendable!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXd2u3hAVpU

We blame BMW for initiating this jabbing war as they are the ones who came up with the viral CEO advertisement!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMbmAlAiWto

But this time the German automobile empire Bayerische Motoren Werke (BMW) uploaded a social media post where Mercedes AMG E53 was covered in the costume of BMW M5 with an enticing caption, “Now every car can dress up as its favorite superhero”

We seriously just love this ongoing dig both automotive giants are taking on each other and enjoying every bit of it.

Instagram is Cracking Down Creepy Apps that Let You Stalk Your Loved Ones!

Instagram

Instagram won’t compromise on your privacy anymore. They are taking serious majors to crack down creepy apps that let you stalk others, specially your loved ones.

After discontinuing the “Following Tab” on the app that let you check out your loved ones activity. Instagram has been on a serious crack down and shutting down all the intruding apps that are trying to crawl back the abandoned feature.

Recently a new app, Patrol was trying to find ways to bring back this creepiest feature of keeping an eye on your significant others.

There is no room of privacy on social media we tell you! Critics were furious and claimed that whatever the app is offering it resembles stalkware.

Instagram

Patrol just secretly launched an IOS version that is like an advance version of following tab! They are not just allowing social media surveillance but also promoting it. This isn’t the first time when Facebook owned social-networks are threatened by the third party apps for scarping data.

Patrol promised to send you notification whenever your followers like or comment on a photo. Also it was breaking down the data gender wise and listing down the profiles the person interacts with most. It’s not stalking but full on spying.

Instagram sent a “cease and desist letter” before to the Patrol as their developers were violating the policies. But now they have completely banned it from not only Instagram but Facebook also.

Apps like Patrol only show you the toxic use of social media. This crackdown is quite beneficial for a clean and positive use of the technology and will prevent data violation in future.

Tezgam Express Fire: Passengers Are Still Allowed to Carry Gas Cylinders in the Train!

The Tezgam Express incident has left everyone dismayed.

Considering that there is no proper regulation of railway in Pakistan, it wasn’t that big of a surprise. However, it was a highly tragic incident due to which more than 74 lives were lost.

In a video message, Sheikh Rashid (Federal Minister for Railway) shed light on the matter and accepted the authorities’ fault for letting passengers board the train with gas cylinders.

While everyone was busy blaming either the government or the passengers, nobody really talked about what measures should be taken next to avoid such a catastrophe in the future.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Imran Khan called Sheikh Rashid Ahmed and, while expressing his heartfelt condolences, he also sought from him the details about the incident.

Briefing the PM, the minister explained that the fire had engulfed the train bogeys after two cylinders exploded which were being used unlawfully by some passengers for cooking food.

The prime minister also instructed the railway minister to keep him updated on the incident and directed for speedy investigation and dealing the culprits as per law.

Sadly, it seems that there is still no proper regulation against this. A social media user took to their twitter account today to share a photo they took on the train:
