Amazon (58%), Netflix (45%), Gucci (30%), Salesforce.com (23%) and Louis Vuitton (23%) emerged out to be the top five growing brands according to this report.

Getting a driving license can be quite troublesome. The process takes a while, a few weeks if everything goes well or even a couple of months. How about opting for an online driving license in Pakistan instead?

A new feature introduced by the Driving License Issuance and Management System (DLIMS) with the help of Pakistan Information Technology Board (PITB), is enabling citizens to apply for driving licenses online with less trouble.

The online facility can be accessed by citizens in 36 Districts of Pakistan, some of them being Sialkot, Pakpattan, Vehari, Chakwal and Attock.

Jinnah-Gandhi Photos Sparks Controversy at Aligarh Muslim University!

A new controversy arises in India, where Jinnah-Gandhi photos at an exhibition in Aligarh Muslim University ignited fury among many Indian extremists.

On account of Mahatma Gandhi’s 150^th birth anniversary, this week-long exhibition was organized at the University’s Maulana Azad Library to commemorate his legacy as the part of Gandhi Jayanti celebrations.

This exhibition showcased photographs depicting the lifestyle and work of Gandhi along with his group photos with other leaders of his era.

But what caught the attention of many Indians were Mahatma Gandhi’s pictures with Muhammad Ali Jinnah and clearly, they aren’t happy about it!

Considering the history of South Asia, seeing Gandhi and Jinnah alongside each other should not come as a “shock” to anyone.

But it looks like, the extremism among Indians is on its peak these days and this led to a quiet removal of these pictures from the varsity’s exhibition.

AMU’s administration came forward to explain that they were not aware of this fact and have also issued a show cause notice to Librarian Amzad Ali, the in charge of the exhibition.

AMU spokesperson Shafey Kidwai said,

“The probe has been ordered as to how these pictures were included in the exhibition and a show cause notice has been served to the librarian Thursday.”

Famous for its anti-Pakistani statements, BJP once again got something to target Pakistan and one of its leaders Shakuntala Bharti said:

“Were they celebrating Gandhi Jayanti or Jinnah Jayanti? If they want to display Jinnah pictures, they should go to Pakistan.”

Such extremist behavior is one of the reasons for all the political tension between the two countries and let’s hope for the situation to not get worse.

Also, this is not the first time that Aligarh Muslim University became a target of such controversy. Back in May, Jinnah’s portrait in its student union office raised a similar tension among BJP leaders and Hindu extremists!

Nevertheless, Muhammad Ali Jinnah stole the show once again, seizing all the attention even at Gandhi’s birthday celebration.

IMF Calls for More Action by Pakistan

The International Monetary Fund has called upon Pakistan’s new government to act fast in order to bring stability to the declining economy of the country.

Former cricketer Imran Khan’s new administration had vowed to decide by the end of September if it would seek an IMF bailout to shore up the economy as it faces a balance-of-payments crisis and dwindling reserves.

However, it has yet to announce a deal as it seeks other areas of financing and launched a highly publicised austerity drive that has included auctioning off government-owned luxury automobiles and buffaloes.

The IMF said in a statement released late Thursday that Pakistan was in need of significant external financing in the near term and recommended upping gas and power tariffs while also pushing for exchange rate “flexibility” and monetary policy tightening.

“These steps would help reduce current account pressures and improve debt sustainability,” said the fund in a statement.

But it warned that tough days may lay ahead as higher oil prices and tightening financial conditions for emerging markets will likely add to Pakistan’s economic woes.

“In this environment, economic growth will likely slow significantly, and inflation will rise,” said the IMF.

Pakistan has gone to the IMF repeatedly since the late 1980s. The last time was in 2013 when Islamabad got a $6.6 billion loan to tackle a similar crisis.

For months analysts have warned Khan’s new government must act quickly to stem a new current account crisis, which could undermine its currency and its ability to repay billions in debts or purchase imports.

The US, one of the IMF’s biggest donors, has raised fears Pakistan could use any bailout money to repay mounting loans from China, sparking criticism from Islamabad.

Pakistan’s budget deficit has climbed steadily over the past five years, and foreign currency reserves have declined. The rupee has been repeatedly devalued in the past year, fuelling inflation.

Khan has vowed to improve trade with India, increase the ease of doing business and boost tax collection but since taking office in August is yet to roll out a comprehensive plan aimed at tackling the country’s economic fortunes.

The state of Pakistan’s finances could also undermine one of Khan’s most popular promises to construct an “Islamic welfare state” based on increased spending on education and health.

The IMF’s warnings come days after the Asian Development Bank said Pakistan’s economy could shrink by one per cent in the current fiscal year.
