Nike’s Controversial Colin Kaepernick Ad Stirs Unexpected Reactions

Colin Kaepernick

President Donald Trump attacked Nike over its support of Colin Kaepernick on Wednesday as the first video advert featuring the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback was unveiled.

Trump, who on Tuesday described Nike’s deal with Kaepernick as “terrible,” said the sports equipment giant’s endorsement of the ex-NFL star had backfired.

“Just like the NFL, whose ratings have gone WAY DOWN, Nike is getting absolutely killed with anger and boycotts,” Trump wrote on Twitter.

“I wonder if they had any idea that it would be this way? As far as the NFL is concerned, I just find it hard to watch, and always will, until they stand for the FLAG!”.

Nike revealed on Monday that Kaepernick would be at the centre of a new campaign to mark the 30th anniversary of the company’s “Just Do It” slogan.

The move was criticised by some on Twitter, with several users vowing to boycott Nike while others posted videos of them destroying the company’s merchandise.

Nike shares dipped on Tuesday but had climbed in trading on Wednesday.

Kaepernick has become a polarising figure after refusing to stand for the national anthem in 2016 in an effort to draw attention to racial injustice in America.

The 30-year-old’s protests came after the deaths of several unarmed black men during confrontations with law enforcement.

In 2017 Trump decried NFL players who refused to stand for the US anthem as “sons of bitches” who should be fired.

That, in turn, triggered a wave of fresh protests across the NFL, which remains America’s most popular major sport.

Kaepernick, who led the 49ers to the brink of a Super Bowl victory in 2013, has been unable to find employment with an NFL team since being released by San Francisco in 2017.

He is currently suing the NFL, alleging team owners colluded to keep him out of the sport.

On Monday, Nike released a promotional image for their new Kaepernick-inspired campaign which featured a black and white portrait of the player superimposed with the slogan “Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything.”

On Wednesday, Nike released an advert featuring Kaepernick which will be aired during Thursday’s season-opening game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Atlanta Falcons.

The advert, titled “Dream Crazy,” has Kaepernick narrating over images and footage of various athletes with inspirational stories, including NBA icon LeBron James, tennis star Serena Williams and Kenyan runner Eliud Kipchoge.

“Don’t ask if your dreams are crazy, ask if they’re crazy enough,” Kaepernick asks at the end of the spot.

Master Motor Corporation to Launch 3 New Changan Vehicles

After announcing the news of establishing a new automotive plant, Master Motor Corporation has announced the launching of 3 vehicles in partnership with Changan.

These vehicles are expected to be launched in the coming weeks. Reports suggest two of the three are pickups M8 and M9 and the MPV Karvaan.

The reports also suggest that the Karvaan, M8 and M9 are expected to be priced at expected to cost Rs. 1,000,000, Rs. 850,000 and Rs. 900,000, respectively.

Toyota Rush Price in Pakistan & Specifications! [View Images]

The Karvaan is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-litre unit that churns out an impressive 110kw (148hp) of power at 5500rpm and 230Nm of torque at 2000-4000 rpm. Fuel economy is rated at 7.6 litres per 100 km (13.2 km/ litre). The engine is mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed Aisin automatic gearbox.

Changan took advantage of the opportunity after local brands like Honda and FAW consecutively raised prices on their vehicles due to the devaluation of the rupee against the dollar.

It is expected that this move will bring in an investment of $200-300 million in the country. Both Master Motor and Changan came into an agreement back in June, after which they had made a joint-announcement to launch of four vehicles in Pakistan very soon.

The facility will have an initial capacity of 30,000 units a year, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Danial Malik told reporters on Friday.

“The joint venture is meant to tap Pakistan’s auto market as well as export right-hand vehicles to SAARC and ASEAN countries especially Malaysia and Indonesia,” said Danial.

Pakistan’s Auto Development Policy 2016-21 has been credited for paving way for new entrants.

The Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Afridi, who assumed office on Monday, has said that forbidden meat is being sold in the capital city of Islamabad. Afridi added that the sale of pork, dog and donkey meat needs to be checked.

The Senate Panel had a review of the Islamabad Pure Food Authority Bill, introduced by Senator Azam Khan Swati of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. The Senator stated that there is absolutely no check and balance of operations in Islamabad.

“There are 16 companies selling bottled water but nine of them are packing and selling water that is unsafe for human consumption,” -Swati

PFA Seals 2 Eateries, Fines 12 Food Businesses

On the other hand, Committee Chairperson Senator Rehman Malik directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to investigate the matter and stated:

“Nobody can touch those selling yogurt and milk in this country. There is no testing mechanism. Animals should be inspected for their health before they are slaughtered,” -Malik

He added that the meat is being transported within the city openly in trucks and has become a common sight on the roads. He further pointed out that this action is a serious threat to public health.

However, an interesting question which has arisen in the midst of the situation is if this is due to the increase in the Chinese population in Pakistan? Time will tell after further investigation what is the fuss actually about.

Osman Khalid Butt is Having a HUGE Twitter War With PEMRA!

osman khalid butt

Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has rolled out a new notification slamming the content being shown in Pakistani TV Dramas.

As per the notice, the media authority has deemed the industry as ‘deteriorating, indecent and not depicting the true picture of Pakistan.’

Vulgarity in Pakistan: PEMRA Issues New Rules for TV Serials

PEMRA stated:

“Indecent scenes, dialogues, extramarital relations, violence and exploitation are being glamourised, ignoring ethical bindings of Pakistani society as well Pemra laws.”

Bollywood Singers Slam Atif Aslam for Recreating ‘Chalte Chalte’

The Diyar-e-Dil star, Osman Khalid Butt was the first to react to PEMRA’s notice and took to Twitter to express his views.

Taking a savage dig, OKB tweeted:

Not every drama serial is meant to be watched with the family. Pinky & Babloo can be put to bed before, no?

However, he rightly pointed out that earlier PEMRA banned HUM TV’s hit drama ‘Udaari’, a drama that condemned child sexual abuse in Pakistan.

Friendly reminder that this is the same body that tried to ban Udaari

The actor added that such notices by PEMRA only discourage content diversification on Pakistani TV.

The Balu Mahi hero did not shy away from indulging in a heated debate with everybody who was agreeing with the media authority.

Trolling his trolls, Butt is on a mission to silence his haters once and for all!

But the keyboard warriors are showing no signs of slowing down.

What do you think of PEMRA’s notice? Do you think Osman Khalid Butt is justified in his views?

Nokia 1 Hands On Review: Specifications, Features, Price & More

Nokia is a brand name we are all familiar with. For those who joyously awaited the trademark’s new game-plan also eagerly looked forward to HMD Global’s next step.

Since the very start, HMD has been writing a new chapter for the Nokia mobile phone journey, and so far has successfully managed to captivate its audience with the launch of strong devices. One such interesting device by the Nokia brand is the Nokia 1.

Nokia 1 Pakistan

Small, cheap, and reliable, we got a hold of the device for a complete hands-on review.

Nokia 1- Look, Feel & Display

Nokia 1

From the first impression, the Nokia 1 appeared a small device, with a familiar design. Coming to the display, the device is equipped with a 4.5-in IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen (480 x 854 pixels). Unlike the newer Smartphone screens, it is not bezel-less.

The device’s design took us back to our younger days when such palm-fit devices were in trend before huge-screen gadgets started rolling. It is quite light in weight, has a full plastic body, removable back cover, a removable battery and a 3.5mm audio jack.

Nokia 1

You can also spot a front-facing 2MP camera as well as a rear 5MP camera, which we will come back to later.

Nokia 1

We can also spot the mic towards the front and speaker at the back. To the side, you will find the lock/power button and volume buttons.

Nokia 1

Overall, the Nokia 1 is very simple when it comes to look and feel.

Hardware & Software

One of the impressive features of Nokia 1 is that it is powered by Android Oreo: Go Edition. This means that the Smartphone is capable of running application to the most optimized convenience so that they consume less storage and battery without compromising on performance.

It also has a MediaTek MT6737M processor, which is more or less equivalent to a quad-core Cortex-A53 at 1.1GHz. It is coupled with a Mali-T720 GPU and 1GB of RAM and 8GB ROM. You can also use a MicroSD for additional storage purposes (up to 128GB supported).

Camera

Nokia 1

The Nokia 1 boasts a 5MP rear and 2MP front camera. Considering that the handset is an entry-level Smartphone, both cameras are ideal.

Battery

Nokia 1

Unlike most Smartphones nowadays, the Nokia 1 comes with a removable 2150 mAh Li-lon battery. This is convenient as users can swap it with another fully charged battery whenever required. However, there is no fast-charging option.

Performance

While it may be no rocket, the aim of the Nokia 1 is to provide a version of one of the latest Android software for a phone at a minimal price which works properly, mission accomplished.

Considering the price of the Smartphone, and its features, we can brush off the small things as long as performance is not compromised. The Go Edition was chosen for the purpose to tailored to lower power devices, and key apps such as Maps, Assistant and the File Manager.

Colours

Nokia 1 is available in Warm Red and Dark Blue. However, there are back covers available in several other colors.

Momo Suicide Challenge & Blue Whale Banned in Pakistan!

Update:The Federal Information Technology (IT) Minister Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, on Sunday, banned suicidal video games, including Blue Whale Suicide Challenge and Momo Suicide Challange.

He added that strict action will be taken, and a law will be passed for those who develop such software under the Cyber Crime Act.

While in a meeting with delegations, the IT Minister stated:

“These games don’t have any place in Pakistan as they are destroying the youth and are one of the key players in suicides taking place worldwide.”

Momo Suicide Challenge has become the world’s latest and newest muse. Previously, Blue Whale Challenge was the talk of the town. Several cases had surfaced in Pakistan for Blue Whale, and a few for Momo have also surfaced.

After the Blue Whale challenge, the horrific game which claimed the lives of teenagers worldwide, another deadly game called Momo Suicide Challenge has now surfaced.

It hoodwinks the mental state of its victim’s mind, compelling them to perform several tasks, the last being suicide.

WhatsApp to Charge Service Fee for Businesses!

What is Momo Challenge?

Momo Challenge or Momo Suicide Challenge is a game similar to Blue Whale Challenge. It initially started on Facebook where individuals were persuaded to talk to strangers via unknown numbers.

However, soon the link of the game began to spread and circulate via WhatsApp as a new medium. The game was not in the highlights until a 12-year-old girl from Argentina committed suicide and had recorded a video before her death. The video revealed that the girl was following the instructions of a shady stranger on WhatsApp.

Cops in Argentina are still searching for the “adolescent with whom she exchanged those messages”. Even the National Police of Spain has issued a warning to the parents against the Momo challenge.

What are the Momo Challenge Tasks?

The game or challenge begins when a stranger with an unknown number contacts a random player. When a connection has been established between the two, a series of tasks are given to the player.

These tasks include physical harm as reported by several victims, the last task being suicide. If a player refuses to follow the instructions, they are threatened with personal information and are told severe consequences will have to be dealt with.

Momo Challenge Avatar

The game is named after a creepy avatar created by a Japanese artist named Midori Hayashi, who has no connection to the game. The image is called ‘Mother bird by Link Factory’.

Parents & Relatives Have Concerns

In the U.S.A., a case occurred where the victim’s grandmother claimed that his grandson showed her Momo.

“I don’t want him to kill himself over her, and that’s what would happen. They are very impressionable at age 12. I just…that’s my opinion, I don’t like her. ‘Momo, no, no!’ That’s what I told my grandson-get that off of Grandma’s phone. I don’t want you near that thing, anywhere near it!'”

WhatsApp New Feature Only Allows Admins To Send Messages!

In West Bengal, a small-time businessman was threatened to play the deadly ‘Momo Challenge’ game.

The Bengal CID has warned that that fake Whatsapp messages similar to the Momo Challenge game requests are being sent by technical experts using unknown numbers.

Momo Suicide Challenge in Pakistan?

As per various social media reports, the Momo Suicide Challenge has allegedly reached Pakistan.

Several individuals have reported getting mysterious calls and messages from an unknown number, from abroad, with an image of a freaky woman.

A similar case of cited on a popular Facebook group with links to the Momo Challenge.

The victim, Maham shared that she was unable to block the unknown number once she replied to the messages and responded to the call.

However, not responding back and blocking the number worked for the time being. She has also shared the story of a friend who was also a target of the Momo Challenge.

Previously, a mother had also shared her story on social media in a closed group. She asked others to be aware as her son started to cry while playing on her phone.

Upon taking the device from him, she saw an incoming call from an unknown number with the image of the scary girl ‘Momo’, the number tracing back to Bahrain.

WhatsApp to Ban Under 16-Year Old Users from the Application?

Preventions & Precautions

The first thing to do is avoid clicking on such links which ‘invite’ you to play a game or challenge.

Do not click on suspicious URLs, as they may direct you to viruses and malware allowing hackers to steal your personal information and blackmail you.

Report the incident to Cyber Crime as soon as possible via website or call.

Frequently change passwords for emails, social media accounts, and other important mediums which may have vital information.

Block unknown numbers with an image of Momo or numbers which ask for personal information and PINs or passwords.

iPhone XS: Rumored Specs, Price & Features of Apple’s Latest Phone

iPhone-XS

Apple’s biggest event of the year is just a few days away and the world is getting ready to witness the grand launch of the most awaited iPhone XS (iPhone X Plus).

However, there is much more going on the world of electronics. There is also an update on the leaked iPhone SE 2, and more.

iPhone XS- What We Know So Far

Starting off with iPhone XS, the phone is expected to be unveiled on 12th September at 10 am, along with different trims. The company aims to offer 5G compatible phones, which means the phone will surely not be light on the pockets.

Apple Expected to Unveil New iPhones at September 12 Event

David Phelan, a well-known tech writer, has claimed:

“This year, there may be three iPhones with, potentially, radically different designs and an all-screen iPad Pro with Face ID. Not to mention the long-awaited AirPower charging pad and the fourth-generation Apple Watch. There may be a new MacBook of some kind, likely an entry-level model which could replace the MacBook Air. And maybe even AirPods 2, to boot.”

On the other hand, Bloomberg claims that the iPhone XS will be the phablet version of the iPhone X and will be comparatively cheaper in price.

“The world’s most valuable company plans to launch three new phones soon that keep the edge-to-edge screen design of last year’s flagship, according to people familiar with the matter. The devices will boast a wider range of prices, features and sizes to increase their appeal, said the people, who asked not to be identified discussing unannounced products.” -Bloomberg

Even 9to5Mac have shed more light on to the possible iPhone XS as they claim to have found official shots of the new devices.

They claimed that Apple will be launching 2 phones, one 5.8-in and the other 6.5-in under the name, iPhone XS, with OLED display. They further added that the XS will be available in a new colour variant, gold, which was not offered for the new designs.

Performance

Both phones are expected to debut with Apple’s very own A12 processor. According to 9to5Mac, the processor is the first Apple processor to be built on the 7-nanometer design, allowing for speed improvements in a smaller and more efficient package.

iPhone XS Expected Price

Apple guru Ming-Chi Kuo expects the smartphone to be tagged at $600-$700 (around £450-£530).

iPhone X Plus Image Leaked Online!

Price-Cut For iPhone 8S & SE 2?

Apple might be considering to chop off a couple of bucks from their iPhone 8S and SE 2. This is because of the company wanting to encourage their users to switch to newer and updated of the phone. Secondly, the company will want to promote the successor of the SE variant.

What are you expecting from Apple’s iPhone XS and the event?
