Karachi to Experience Winter This Weekend!

Karachites got quite a dose of winter this year, but sadly after a few days, it was all over.  However, the cold winter spell is all set to return to Karachi from tomorrow onwards.

According to weather updates, the temperature may reach a low of 11 to 12 degrees on Saturday morning and would reach 10 degrees by Sunday.

During the day Karachites will be experiencing highs of 27 degrees on Saturday while it would be 25 to 26 degrees on Sunday afternoon. An overall drop by 2 to 3 degrees is expected.

 

However, there has been no update on any forecast for rainfall in the city.

Chupan Chupai Movie Review: The Flick Ends The Year 2017 With A Bang!

Good things come to those who wait and that’s why that all the films that managed to capture the imagination of the audience came out in the last quarter. Unlike Punjab Nahi Jaungi and Na Maloom Afraad 2, Chupan Chupai had everything new about it.

There were new actors, new director, and new producers but the way they titled the industry into the new direction is commendable.

There were some issues with the plot but that happens when you venture into the unknown territory of showbiz.

Synopsis

The film is about a group of misdirected (read jobless) youths who turn to a life of crime and get absorbed into it further when they meet their match.

Led by Babu Bhai (Ahsan Khan) and his girlfriend Pari (Neelam Munir), the team of 5 (Vajdaan Shah, Zayed Sheikh and Ali Rizvi) go for a big catch and later turn to Babu’s brother Doctor (Rehan Sheikh) who helps them in their escape.

SHO Choudhry (Adnan Jaffer) then enters the story and find out about the kidnapping scenario, realizing that all is not well.

Analysis

The way all the characters have been categorized is perhaps the biggest plus of the movie. Ever actor looks the part he or she plays, be it the new ones or the seniors. Ahsan Khan looks out of this world in the songs and it was refreshing to see him do comedy for a change.

In her first film, Neelam Munir looks breathtakingly beautiful and acts according to her character. Faizan Khawaja and Ali Rizvi are the surprise packages as one of them gets to play smart, the other idiot and they both do a fine job.

Zayed Sheikh and Vajdaan Shah are good additions to the industry and so is the return of Sakina Samo and Talat Hussain. Rehan Sheikh as Khan aka Doctor displays his comic side to the audience and impresses.

The Background score and Soundtrack by Soch Band (Adnan Dhool and Rabi Ahmed) keep up with the narrative and you don’t lose the track of the story which is taken forward by the characters, not by the actors.

 

Verdict 3.5/5

After a couple films that couldn’t do well at the Box Office for one reason or the other, the arrival of Chupan Chupai was like a breath of fresh air. This is the film that comes after a few years and makes stars rather than break them.

Yes, there were moments in the second half when you felt that the film should end but the way it has been packed up is something only Mohsin Ali could have done. The writer-turned-director knows exactly what he audience wants and the way he uses Mere Paas Maa Hai is a lesson for those who want to register their films as outstanding, rather than make money and move from one below par project to another.

Baaghi Drama on Urdu1: Kanwal Flaunts Her Latest Love Affair on Social Media!

Baaghi, a drama that has been touching the hearts of millions with its amazing story-line and a brilliantly talented cast, continues to excel to great heights.

This episode takes us forward to around 10 years, where Munna and Munni are all grown-ups. The family of Fauzia’s elder brother has extended from 2 to 4 with a son and a daughter. Munna has opened his own mobile shop with his sister’s assistance. Side-by-side, we can see Munna getting involved in illegal activities like gambling and drugs, and is drowning in the pool of debts. He tries to convince Fauzia to lend him more money throughout the episode.

On the other hand, Kanwal’s elder brother is forgetting how his sister helped him when he had nothing. Today, he stands against the divine angel and is ungrateful towards her. When asked to pay the utility bills of the house, he starts misbehaving with his father and in fact, slaps Munni when she tries to stop him from doing so.

In different parts of this episode, we also witnessed that Shehryaar is still madly in love with Kanwal, and to date, tries to defend her whenever possible, whereas, on the other hand, Kanwal uploads a video on Valentine’s day showing-off her love-life:

“Friends, bohot be-rang hoti hai wo zindagi jis may muhabbat na ho”.

She also flaunting the gifts that her “special one” gave her on this special day. Obviously, the media starlet was lying and ended up crying hysterically after the video ended, but she made sure, that no one gets to see her soft side in the world. Not even her family.

Towards the end, we saw Fauzia confronting Munna of his bad habits and her elder brother of his ill-behavior towards her father. The all-red-with-anger, elder brother decides to leave the house at once but is forced by his wife to stay back. Bhabi perfectly blends emotions and the drama together and tells Reemay that they can’t leave the house as their entire family is dependent on Fauzia, and it is better to stay here rather than going back to the village.

The episode closes with a fantastic dialogue by Kanwal Baloch when Rehan comes to visit her after quite some time and says that Kanwal has finally achieved a lot in such a short span of time:

“Sab kuch mil gaya dost, sukoon nahi mila”.

Saba Qamar’s awesome acting skills and change of emotions make us relate to the character itself on a completely different level, and leaves us wondering what will happen next to the social media star.

Sindh Government Bans Aerial Firing & Wheeling on New Year’s Eve

The Sindh government has banned aerial firing and  motorcycle wheeling on New Year’s Eve.

According to the Express Tribune, the ban will be in place from December 31 to January 1 as per the notificatoon released by the government.

A heavy contingent of law enforcers will be deployed on the routes leading towards Sea View while barricades will also be fixed on the routes leading towards the beach.

Here’s the list of 5 Biggest cinematic failures of 2017 that failed to mint massive moolah at the box-office

  1. Verna

Looking at the previous records of Shoaib Mansoor’s films, Khuda Kay Lye and Bol, Verna was expected to be a massive hit. It had to face ban issue even before it got released in October. Starring Mahira Khan, Verna couldn’t rise up to everyone’s expectations.

  1. Thora Jee Le

Thora Jee Le got released in the start of 2017 and proved to be one of the biggest box office disappointments. The film introduced many fresh faces including, Rizwan Ali Jaffri, Bilal Abbas, Ramsha Khan, Fatima Shah Jillani and others. It was directed by Rafay Rashdi and could only generate a minimal amount at the Box Office.

  1. Whistle

Whistle got released in February this year. This action thriller, directed by Ammad Azhar, stars Farhan Ally Agha, Sohail Sameer and Tatmain Ul Qulb in the lead roles. I recieved extremely abysmal feedback from the audience and hence, was a big failure in cinemas.

  1. Chain Aye Naa

Chain Aye Naa proved to be another disappointment of 2017. It stars Shehroz Sabzwari and debutant Sarish Khan in the lead roles. Directed by Syed Noor, this movie received many negative reviews from the critic.

  1. Raasta

Raasta came out to be an utter disaster at Box Office. Directed by Sahir Lodhi, this action thriller couldn’t get enough response from the audience.  It was taken off from Cinemas within 2 days due to small attendance.

Two other movies of 2017, Rangreza and Arth-The Destination, just got released. Though they have gotten a mixed response from the critics, but it is too soon to list them in Box Office failures.

Hajj Policy 2018 has been finally announced by the Minister for Religious Affairs and as many as 179,210 Pakistanis will be performing the Holy pilgrimage to Mecca next year.

Opening Date of Hajj 2018 Applications

The designated branches of scheduled banks would start receiving Government Scheme Hajj applications from January 15

Deadline

The deadline to submit applications is January 24

Balloting Date

Balloting to choose pilgrims would be held on January 26

Hajj 2018 Policy Details

Hajj quota for Pakistanis 179,210
No. of Pilgrims to be managed by Government 120,000
Seats reserved for citizens over 80 years of age 10,000
Northern region Rs. 280,000.
Southern region Rs. 270,000.
Extra Amount to be given for Animal Sacrifice Rs. 13,050

 

  • A person performing Hajj through Government Scheme has been declared not eligible for applying for Hajj, the only exception is mehram accompanying a woman for Hajj.
  • Accompanying a Mehram has been made mandatory for each Haji women.
  • However, over 45 years women of Fiqia-e-Jafria would be exempted from the condition.
  • For the first time, three private airlines have been included in Hajj flight operation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, apart from PIA.

Qatar’s Ambassador to Pakistan Saqar Bin Mubarik on Thursday has announced that Qatar will require more than 0.1 million Pakistani skilled workers for the purpose of development and construction for the FIFA Football World Cup to be held in the year 2022.

In a recent meeting with National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC), Executive Director Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema, Qatar desires the maximum workforce for the world cup to come from Pakistan.

Shahrah-e-Faisal to Face Massive Traffic Jam For 2 More Days!

Traffic jams have become a norm in Karachi. Despite the fact we now don’t bat an eye on traffic problem, the traffic in the metropolis has recently surpassed an average Karachiites patience level.

Almost every day, the citizens are stuck in bumper-to-bumper jams and it seems there will be no end to this agony.

However, the metropolis witnessed probably the most horrible traffic situation of the year as repair work on the main sewerage trunk near Metropole Hotel, Shahrah-e-Faisal created a massive nuisance for the commuters.

What was worse, the citizens did not see this coming as no announcement was made prior to the blockage by the authorities.

As reported by the Express Tribune, this repair work will end by Wednesday. Apparently, a 56-inch diameter line sank a few days ago and affected the area from Fatimah Jinnah Road to Cantt Station.

Later in the day, a press release was issued to state alternative routes but apparently, it did not help the citizens much!

As per reports, this adverse traffic situation will continue for at least two days. 

It is suggested to stay updated with traffic and plan accordingly to avoid being unnecessarily stuck for long hours.

Apple Issues Apology & Discount Over iPhone Slow-Down Controversy

Apple has been in hot waters ever since the brand has accepted that they slow down the performances of older iPhones as they age.

In no time, the tech-giant found itself several different lawsuits going up to $999bn!

To tackle this complicated issue at hand, the company issued an apology to all iPhone users and also issued a discount.

Titled as ‘A Message to Our Customers about iPhone Batteries and Performance’, Apple tried to clear its name.

The message read as follow;

We’ve been hearing feedback from our customers about the way we handle performance for iPhones with older batteries and how we have communicated that process. We know that some of you feel Apple has let you down. We apologize. There’s been a lot of misunderstanding about this issue, so we would like to clarify and let you know about some changes we’re making.

First and foremost, we have never — and would never — do anything to intentionally shorten the life of any Apple product, or degrade the user experience to drive customer upgrades. Our goal has always been to create products that our customers love, and making iPhones last as long as possible is an important part of that.

Further on, Apple added how the life-span of batteries tend to get tampered. The reason being is that rechargeable batteries are consumable components that become less effective as they chemically age and their ability to hold a charge diminish.

Apple’s Discount

Apple is reducing the price of an out-of-warranty iPhone battery replacement by $50 — from $79 to $29 — for anyone with an iPhone 6 or later whose battery needs to be replaced, starting in late January and available worldwide through December 2018. Details will be provided soon on apple.com.

Pakistan Makes it to the List of World’s Leading Travel Destinations

Thanks to the ‘British Backpacker Society’, Pakistan is now at more exposure as a leading travel destination than ever before.

British Backpacker Society is a UK-based adventure travel project that people from around the world follow for inspiration. Not only has it stated Pakistan as one of the best travel locations, our country actually tops the list!

The results were declared after the Society listed its ‘top twenty adventurous traveling nations’ as they visited different countries.

What brings us more pride is that two members of the Backpacker Society confirmed how they have visited more than a hundred countries around the world and still consider Pakistan ‘a clear winner‘. This was said in a statement that the members – Samuel Joynson and Adam Sloper – shared with a local news channel.

The members also praised the beauty of Pakistan along with its friendliness and hospitality. When announcing the results, they described Pakistan’s beauty beyond anybody’s imagination.

The list released by the British Backpacker Society for the world’s top 20 travel countries are:

The article released also includes details that persuade travelers to visit Pakistan and especially the Karakoram Highway and take the route from Islamabad towards Pak-China border on the Khunjerab Pass. This route was quoted as the best and the world’s great road trip.

Both Samuel Joynson and Adam Sloper – aged 26 and 25 respectively – belong to Southern England and visited Pakistan during the summers in 2016. They crossed the Indian-Pak border at Wahgah and even stayed a few days in Lahore, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi.

They then planned their tip ahead to our beautiful northern areas and traveled to Naran via Kaghan valley before reaching Babusar – Top to Gilgit. Their dream travel to Pakistan ended at the mesmerizing Hunza Valley.

Samuel added that their experience of any adventure travel becomes better when it changes their viewpoint and experience of a place. With Pakistan, they had a major shift in how our country is generally perceived. 

Whether it was an idle gazing at the beautiful mountainous peeks or favoring their flavor buds with the most scrumptious meals at the local street hotels of Rawalpindi or making new friends during their long bus trips – they were totally overwhelmed with the experience hidden at every corner of our country.

Samuel believes that if more stories are shared about Pakistan, it would attract more tourism from around the world.

Adam Sloper, however, also warned the tourists visiting Pakistan about the number of selfies they have to pose in asked for by the locals. He further added,

“Be prepared to keep up with their spirits because they are going to experience the best hospitality on earth.”

The British Backpacker Society is planning to revisit Pakistan in 2018 to witness the beauty of Skardu and the base camp of K2. They have their fingers crossed to get a tourist visa to Pakistan again as well as the permit to visit Gilgit-Baltistan.

How To Backup & Restore WhatsApp Chats Via Google Drive

One of the fears WhatsApp users face while changing their smartphone is losing their chat data that’s both memorable and important at the same time.

Fortunately, you can say goodbye to this fear forever as WhatsApp is now offering the latest feature to Android users to back up their chat data on Google Drive.

Other than text, you also have the option to save all the multimedia including GIFs – the current obsession – images, and videos shared on the platform.

So if you want to make use of this new feature, it’s important that your device is connected to a solid Wi-Fi to ensure smooth and quick restore processes.

Backing up WhatsApp Chats on Google Drive

The feature of backing up your WhatsApp data comes with three options:

  • Back up to Google Drive when you tap Back Up
  • Back up only over Wi-Fi
  • Include videos

To start the process, launch WhatsApp, and tap on the three dots on the top right and tap on Settings > Chats > Chat Backup. You will see all of the above-mentioned settings. Adjust accordingly and tap on backup to save your chats and multimedia (if you want).

If you don’t want to backup and just export your chats to a safer place, you have an option for that too. Tap on Chats > Chat History > Email Chats > and select the chat window you wish to backup. This does not backup everything but only the chats you want to save.

Select a Specific Time To Restore

Your WhatsApp chats are now backed up and you have already setup it up again on your new handset. Now how do you restore?

Follow this:

Open WhatsApp > Set up your profile and get your number verified, and tap Next.

Since you have already linked a Google account with your new device, you will be promoted to restore the messages you have backed up. Just tap Restore and you are done.

Creating and Restoring Local Backups for Chats

Other than a Google Drive backup, Whatsapp also allows you to make a local backup of your messages to keep them safe. Of course, you will lose them if you switch your phone.

It’s mentioned on WhatsApp’s website:

“The easiest way to transfer data to a new phone is by using Google Drive. If you want to use a local backup, you will need to transfer the files to the new phone using a computer, file explorer or an SD Card. If your data is not stored in the SDcard/WhatsApp/folder, you may see ‘internal storage’ or ‘main storage’ folders”.

Mind you, the local storage can only back up seven days of data. To do so, restore a local backup, download File Manager app from Google Play store.

WhatsApp Receives Legal Notice!

Once the app is downloaded, launch File Manager > choose SD card > WhatsApp > Databases. You can pick either the main storage or internal storage in case you don’t have an SD card.

There’s further detail available on this on WhatsApp’s website:

“Rename the backup file you wish to restore from msgstore-YYY-MM-DD.1.db.crypt12 to msgstore.db.crypt12. It is possible that an earlier backup may be on an earlier protocol, such as crypt9 or crypt10. Do not change the number of the crypt extension.”

Your data is totally safe and secure no matter how many times you change your device!

WhatsApp Receives Legal Notice!

Of all the advancements in technology, WhatsApp emojis have totally transformed the way people chat with each other on a daily basis.

If you’re happy? Send a smiling emoji, Sad? a frowning emoji, feeling the love? Well, there’s a heart emoji for that too. Instead of saying good luck just simply send a thumbs up, why bother spending a few seconds typing it out!

With every update, WhatsApp brings a bunch of new emojis to enhance the user experience. However, not everyone agrees with the emojis and some find them offensive too. It seems like the ‘middle finger’ emoji has not fared well in India and a lawyer from Delhi has asked the online messenger service to take it down immediately.

Gurmeet Singh has given WhatsApp a 15-day notice otherwise he would file a civil or criminal complaint against them.

Indian newscaster, NDTV claims that the lawyer mentions,

“Showing the middle finger is not only offensive but a highly belligerent, invasive, obscene, lewd gesture. As per the Indian Penal Code Sections 354 and 509, it is an offense to show obscene, lewd, offensive gestures to females.”

Singh’s notice to WhatsApp further mentioned,

 “As per section 6 of the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act, 1994, showing off the middle finger is also an offense in Ireland.”

WhatsApp has however not responded or commented on the notice sent by the Delhi lawyer. Once the two-week notice is over, Singh has promised to serve the messaging service with a civil suit.
