A recent research conducted by the ECA International has named Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru and George Town in Malaysia as the ‘world’s most affordable places’ for expatriates.

Malaysia has been a travel-friendly country for Pakistanis and tops the list of destinations visited by citizens. These three Malaysian cities, our own city of lights, Karachi, Yangon in Myanmar and Mongolia’s Ulaanbaatar were named the cheapest locations for expatriates.

Tokyo in Japan is still the most expensive location for expats in the Asia Pacific.

Johor Bahru, Malaysia one of the cheapest cities to live in the world for foreigners

ECA International’s Regional Director Lee Quane mentions,

“Asia is home to some of the world’s most expensive locations, as well as its cheapest. This level of variety is only matched in Africa, which is home to both the world’s most expensive location and its cheapest.”

Malaysia being named the cheapest country is great news for Pakistanis as relations between the two countries have been on the positive side on the tourism front. Recently, at the Pakistan Travel Mart at Karachi Expo Centre, amazing discounted packages targeting families were launched by Tourism Malaysia in conjunction with GR Travel. The special packages were announced by Datuk Sri, Mirza Mohammad Taiyab, Director General, Tourism Malaysia.

Na Maloom Afraad 2 is a sequel to the 2014’s Na Maloom Afraad. It is written by Fizza Ali Meerza and Nabeel Qureshi while latter has called the shots.

The film features Fahad Mustafa, Javed Sheikh, Mohsin Abbas Haider and Urwa Hocane as the returned cast and also brought Hania Amir and Marina Khan as the new faces.

Walt Disney Buys Fox Film for $52 Billion

It’s official! Two of the biggest movie studios in Hollywood are consolidating. After two months of negotiations, Walt Disney is finally purchasing the entertainment assets of Twenty-First Century Fox Inc in a deal locked at $52.4 billion.

It will assume $13.7bn in Fox debt as part of the stock deal, taking the total value of the transaction to more than $66bn.

That whopping deal makes this takeover even massive than Disney’s Pixar and Marvel buys combined.

This move is bound to change the media landscape, reverberating from Hollywood and Silicon Valley to TVs and smartphones around the world.

The acquisition will include:

Fox’s TV and film studios
cable networks such as National Geographic and FX
international TV businesses.

Fox Business
FS1,
FS2,
Big Ten Network

The Investment means:

All Fox-controlled Marvel characters would revert to the all-powerful Marvel Cinematic Universe

It will give the company a majority share in Hulu and grant Disney the rights to a number of Fox properties, like the Simpsons, the Planet of the Apes franchise, and Avatar.

Before this deal, Disney already had a vast portfolio of entertainment hits. Already, the giant has declared its aggressive plan to unveil 2 streaming services by 2019.

And now it will have all the muscle and resources to defeat Netflix, Apple, Amazon, Google, and Facebook.

It also implies that 20th Century Fox, will be downsized and operations will be merged into Walt Disney Studios.

Litecoin Beats Bitcoin in 2017: Here’s Why!

Cryptocurrencies have been quite a pleasant surprise for the people around the world. The sudden surge in the prices came as a shock to people. However, the most limelight was enjoyed by none other than the ‘Bitcoin’ out of all the cryptocurrencies.

As a market leader, Bitcoin enjoyed all the fame and overshadowed the other cryptocurrencies that too were growing at a fast pace.

A major example is a Litecoin. According to the market capitalization, Litecoin is the fourth largest digital currency growing at a rapid speed. The rise it has shown in the value chart was impressive because, for the first time ever, the cryptocurrency has crossed the $320 barrier the last Tuesday.

As per the stats, the increase in the value of Litecoin has surpassed 7291% as opposed to bitcoin’s, which is 1731% in 2017.

According to some investors, the rise in Bitcoin has reached its maximum potential and therefore are turning to investing in other growing cryptocurrencies including Litecoin. Investors also believe that Litecoin still has the potential for further growth.

What’s Litecoin?

The founder of Litecoin – Charlie Lee – is an MIT graduate and has also worked as an engineer at Google. Currently, he is undertaking an open-source software project under the X11 or MIT license.

The development and transfer of coins are based on an open source cryptographic protocol and does not involve any central authority. When compared to Bitcoin, Litecoin has a different technical mechanism.

Word of Caution

Despite the rise and fame, a number of Pakistani and foreign investors and analysts have set out the word of caution against investing into cryptocurrencies.

According to Thomas Carper, a US Senator said,

“Virtual currencies, perhaps most notably Bitcoin, have captured the imagination of some, struck fear among others, and confused the heck out of the rest of us.”

Google Launches Tool to Help iPhone Hackers

Google never fails to impress its audience! The popular search engine is back with another surprise. It released one of the most powerful new software that can help security researchers hack iOS 11.1.2.

This work is done by none other than one of the most famous names in the iOS bug bounty hunters – Ian Beer. He’s not only a well-known code hacker but also a member of Project Zero by Google. Their job description is to locate the bugs and exploits in various software in different companies to ensure a safer and smoother user experience.

The program was released this week on Monday. According to Beer, the program is theoretically suitable for all types of iOS devices, although it was only tested on iPhone 6s, iPhone 7, and iPod Touch 6G. He also believes that the code is quite easy to tweak for making it suitable for other devices as well.

This news came out huge for iOS security researchers and modders as this new code will make it easier than ever to jailbreak an iOS device to look for bugs. It’s a great contribution from Project Zero by Google as it is diligently working towards the goal of making all software for iOS safer and smoother to use.

Unfortunately, the exploits found by the researchers rarely get published and information about the tools used usually remains a secret. The main reason to keep it a veiled is because the procedure involves a huge sum of money, especially for significant brands like Apple.

Since Google is not operating to earn that amount, it does not need money to feature these publications. This allowed different software companies to use their input and make their own software safer to use.

The main aim is to look for all sorts of possible flaws within iOS without investing further time and research into creating new methods for jailbreaking it.
We can only hope that this revelation helps researchers in finding exploits so they can make Apple user interface even better.

Automobile and Oil Prices to Increase in Pakistan

Ever wondered what lies ahead for Pakistani auto enthusiasts as the rupee devalues against the dollar? A rapid rise of the Dollar in the beginning of the week that shot the US Dollar to Rs.110 created panic in the local market.

The rupee being devalued against the dollar would mean imports would become expensive. Some major imports include crude oil, auto parts, and automobiles.

As per a few analysts, the price of CBU’s (Completely Built Unit) vehicles and locally assembled passenger cars may be increased by car manufacturers by at least 8 to 10%.

Pakistan imports most of the auto parts used for the assembling of vehicles and if the dollar keeps on increasing, it could possibly result in a price hike of cars in the country.

There have been rumors that the car manufacturers have already planned to increase the price of cars in a few days and the revised costing will be issued soon.

Oil Prices May Increase After Hike in Car Rates

Analysts also believe that the price of oil will also increase. A recent hike in the price of Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene since the past month coupled with the rupee being devalued has expected the prices may go up by 7 to 10%.

I went, I saw and I fell in love with the C Max theatre of Cinepax Cinema in Lahore’s Packages Mall.

The screen is undoubtedly the largest in the region (read Asia) and is even bigger than the iMax in the same city.

What makes C Max a must watch place for cinegoers is the fact that it will be an out of the continent experience if not the world because there is simply no screen bigger than this!

Cinepax Cinemas was the second best thing to happen in Karachi after the arrival of Atrium Cinemas and before the advent of Nueplex Cinemas.

They are on the verge to become the first Cinema operators in the country to have 100 screens in the country when others don’t even have a dozen!

It was unfortunate that they lost 1 screen in Karachi (at Ayesha Manzil) but since good things come to those who wait … their wait seems to be over and out.

So what makes Cinepax Cinemas’ latest venture the best thing to happen this year?

It is going to be the biggest Cinema in the country not just in terms of size but also in terms of halls. It will open with 3 useable halls at first but will eventually house as many as 10 screens which are more than the 9 in Emporium.

It is 80 feet wide and four stories tall, making it the biggest cinema in Pakistan.

Also, since Packages Mall is the latest ‘wow’ mall in the country, people will throng to watch films here and it is likely to give tough time to Nueplex, Centaurus and Atrium mall, the most profitable cinemas in the country.

There was a time when single screen cinemas ruled the cinema circuit but no it’s all about choices – these multiplexes give you many options to select films from and that seems to be the way forward.

E-Passports Launched by Government For Easy and Secure travel

Now Pakistani can finally turn tech-savvy, ditching your old Passport for an e-Passport.

According to Mr. Ahsan Iqbal, the Interior Minister, the issuance of e-passport will commence from March 2018 by the immigration and passport office.

The announcement was made during the inaugural ceremony of e-passport at the Interior Ministry, Islamabad.

Further details about the innovative e-passport were revealed.

The service will be divided into two phases.

The first phase – which is to begin the next year in March – will start with government officials and staff of the embassies.

The service will be available to the general public starting from August 2018.

The e-passport is going to be the perfect example of modern tech.

It will also include an e-chip, which will contain all the information about the person it belongs to.

Another name for e-passport is the biometric passport. The chip within the e-passport will also carry the electronic image of the holder in addition to all the other important details.

Since all the information is carried in a digital format, same means will be utilized for using the e-passports for verifying the identity of the passport holder.

Your travel documents will never be this secure before. This new design is also fraudulent-free. The digital information ensures it is kept from being tampered or copied.

According to the facts revealed, there are several layers of security implemented in this new design to secure the information and prevent duplication by all means.

The overall step of innovating the passport is to help facilitate the public and avoid its misuse.

The planning for this innovation has been in the pipeline for quite some time. The project was initially approved by Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, former Interior Minister, last year.
People can ensure security against identity theft using this new passport.

In addition to providing security, the e-passport is also expected to make the immigration process more efficient.

As a nation, this is a great step that we should definitely appreciate as it helps the citizens of Pakistan to improve authorized travel and security without any hassle.

Security Alert Issued For Threats to Schools, Hospitals in Punjab

The recent rise in terror attacks in Pakistan has created a wave of fear in the nation. A security alert has been issued following the intelligence reports that there is a looming threat to schools and hospitals across Punjab.

A letter to Punjab government disclosed that schools and hospitals in Punjab, particularly in Faisalabad and Multan, are under major threats from banned outfits.

The notice hinted that the terrorists will be possibly adorning security personnel uniforms, can target the educational institutions, hospitals, offices and state vehicles.

Following the notice, the government of Punjab has started security arrangements to make sure no such plan by any outlawed organization becomes successful.

HEC Bans Admission in 2 Universities of Karachi

Higher Education Commission (HEC) has banned admissions in two major universities of because of their irregular operations, mismanagement and setting up of illegal campuses.

The Universities Rusticated By HEC are:

Dadabhoy Institute of Higher Education
Sindh Institute of Management And Technology.

Reason For The Ban

Apparently, these institutes violated standards for quality set by the educational watch-dog. HEC was receiving complaints of irregularities in educational and administrative affairs

Hence, these institutes cannot permit any student an admission in their unapproved and unaccredited faculties, departments or programmes. Degrees of banned programmes will not be recognized and attested by HEC.

Earlier, HEC has banned admissions in four universities hailing from Karachi, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Lahore because of their irregular operations and mismanagement.

Following were the universities earlier banned by HEC:

1. Preston Institute of Management Sciences and Technology (PIMSAT) in Karachi,
2. Global Institute in Lahore
3. Imperial College of Business Studies in Lahore
4. Al-Khair University in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

Karachi to Experience ‘Extremely Cold’ Weather With Light Rain

Winters have finally taken Karachi under its win and weather reports have revealed that more rain and winter winds are likely to grace the city in the upcoming week.

As per meteorologists, light rain is likely to continue for the next 24 hours though heavy rains are ruled out from the city.

Yesterday, Shahrah-e-Faisal, I.I. Chundrigar Road, Malir, and DHA witnessed light drizzle and turned the weather chilly yet pleasant.

The PMD has also revealed that Karachi is going to be engulfed in an extremely cold spell within the next days.

The minimum temperature is expected to range between 9 and 11°C while the maximum will be between 26 and 28°C.

A westerly wave is expected to enter in Pakistan from Sunday that will produce rain with snowfall over the hills.

Rain-thunderstorm is expected at isolated places in Northeast Balochistan, Sindh on Sunday and Monday.
Rain-thunderstorm with snowfall over the hills is expected at isolated places in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA from Sunday to Tuesday.
Rain-thunderstorm with snowfall over the hills is is expected at scattered places in Punjab, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir from Monday to Wednesday.
Cold wave conditions are likely to prevail in most parts of Balochistan, Sindh including Karachi during the coming week.
Snowfall is also expected in Murree and Galliyat on Monday/Tuesday.

Global climate indicators such as El Nino Southern Oscillations (ENSO) and Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) are expected to remain neutral in December 2017 and these conditions are likely to prevail through winter season 2018.

On the basis of prevailing global atmospheric and ocean conditions, slightly above normal rainfall in the upper parts and normal rest of the country is predicted during December 2017.

2–3 spells of rainfall are expected in different parts of the country with snowfall over the mountainous areas.
Shallow Foggy conditions may prevail in the plains of Punjab and KP and upper Sindh during the month.
Due to gradual fall in temperature, snow and glacier melt contribution to Indus will be minimal during the month. However, water availability will improve gradually due to 2–3 moderate rainfall spells in catchment areas.

The Eastern Eye, a UK-based newspaper has finally released its list of sexiest Asian men of 2017.

Like every year, the publication rolls out its legendary ranking of the hottest male celebrities in the continent and as usual, our favorite Pakistani heartthrob has made it the roll.

Of course, it is our ultimate dreamboat, Fawad Khan.

Well, you can’t really resist this Greek God face, can you?

However, last year FK bagged the third spot in the rankings and this year, his position has now been dropped by three places. With the sixth spot in the list, he has been defeated by 4 Indian men and the Hollywood singer, Zayn Malik!

Well, at least he is the only Pakistani hero who made it to the top 6!
