Rs. 10 Coin Without Quaid-e-Azam’s Image to be Cancelled?

The new Rs. 10 coin does not have Quaid-e-Azam’s image engraved on it and it has moved the people by storm.

Advocate Malik Najab Gul Khalil has filed a petition requesting the Peshawar High Court to issue directives to Federal Finance Minister and State Bank of Pakistan Governor to cancel the coin of Rs 10 denomination.

The reason being is that it engraves an image of Faisal Mosque and issue a new coin with the feature of Mohammad Ali Jinnah.

Rs 10 coin, which was issued in 2016, has a crescent and star on the obverse and engraves Islamabad’s Faisal Masjid on the reverse side of its face.

He said before the issuance of Rs 10 coin, the government had issued Re 1 coin, which has Mohammad Ali Jinnah’s image engraved on the obverse and features the mosque of Islamia College Peshawar on its backside.

The petitioner argued that the Faisal Masjid was named after Saudi King Shah Faisal. He added that on the currency notes of Saudi Arabia do not feature Mohammad Ali Jinnah or any other Freedom Movement leader, then why do we have to engrave any of such on our currency.

He affirmed that he belonged to the Muslim faith and respected mosques and other religious places with the core of his heart, but the issue was related to Father of the Nation.

Giving historical references, he said:

“Until 1971, Pakistani currency notes were bilingual featuring Bengali translation of the Urdu text, since Bengali was state language of the East Pakistan.”

The advocated claimed that all legal tender currency notes featured a portrait of Quaid-e-Azam on the obverse along with writing in Urdu. He said the other side of the banknotes varied in design and have English text, but each denomination does have one predominant color.

The petitioner said the only Urdu text found on the note was a saying of Holy Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) stating: ‘seeking honest livelihood is worship of God’.

The lawyer has requested that the government should stop the floatation of Rs. 10 coins until the suggested change is implemented.

Zahid Ahmed Spills the Beans About his Netflix Original Series & Debut Movie [Exclusive]

For many Pakistanis, Zahid Ahmed embodies the ultimate chocolate boy. He is utterly charming, has a heart-stopping smile and his acting trysts have proved himself to be the quintessential superstar of romance.

From his portrayal of Muhammad Ali Jinnah in Pawnay Chauda August to the resilient Haider in Besharam, the arrogant hero in Gustakh Ishq to the ambitious Shuja in Daldal, Ahmed has successfully become the absolute crush fodder for ladies of the nation.

A post shared by Zahid Ahmed (@zahid.ahmed.official) on

Zahid spilled the beans regarding his massive achievement as he sat down for an exclusive one-on-one with Brandsynario.

‘It is an epic romance action saga and its casting is not limited to Pakistan. It has an international cast and I am playing the lead most definitely. Shooting starts in February or March next year. Shooting is in several countries’

While Zahid appeared pretty tight-lipped about his Netflix original, he gave away a few details about the story that now has us all excited about its release.

‘The story is based on an existing international, award-winning novel and it has also won the Pulitzer prize award.

It is a factual story and not fictional. The characters are somewhat fictional and have been created to adjust to the story but it will engulf geo-political landscapes around this area as we are adapting it for Pakistan’

The project and its tale has written megahit all over it!

‘it will include a little bit of history, but will be set around modern times. It revolves around how certain groups came to power here and will talk about external intervention of certain powers as well’

Making it to the silver screen!

Many might not be aware but Zahid has signed his first ever Pakistani movie and will be seen in Jhol across Ali Azmat.

In case your butcher didn't show up. #zahidahmed #dressfor3rdayOfEid

Its release has been stalled for quite some time and the flick’s story is now being revamped as  Urwa and Bilal Ashraf are apparently out of the cast

It is such a fun film and it depicts a story of one day with four characters that are totally crazy and werid. It is a plot driven film and does not focus on any character.

The inspiration behind Zahid’s character is pretty interesting as well.

It is a fun-Filled comedy & My character is inspired by JOHNNY DEPP’s EDWARD SCISSORHANDS

Our fingers are crossed for all for it — and whatever comes next. Zahid Ahmed deserves it!

Pakistan After the Faizabad Riots [View Images]

After an extensive period with riots erupting all over the country, things have finally settled down as the riots and protests have come to an end.

However, the result of these protests was no less than ugly as over 200 civilians were left injured, round 6 lost their lives. And of course, how can there we protest without the burning and smashing of both government and private property?

While protests are to be carried out to convey a message and to highlight the problems in society, the concept, and definition is altered in Pakistan, it means to close down businesses, burn cars, hurt our own people, and ensure everything possible can be done to raise hell.

Which resulted in something like this:

Happiness is a state of mind with deep satisfaction and contentment. It is rightly said,

“we all are in a pursuit of happiness”

Recently, The World Happiness Report 2017 has been released by the United Nations that identified which pocket of the world is the happiest. Once again, Nordic and Western European countries rule the roost.

The Graph Shows the 20 Happiest Countries in the World

The Top 10 Countries in the Happiness Report are:

  1. Norway
  2. Denmark
  3. Iceland
  4. Switzerland
  5. Finland
  6. Netherlands
  7. Canada
  8. New Zealand
  9. Australia
  10. Sweden

The war-struck and economically challenged nations of the Sub-Saharan African Regions scored lowest, with the bottom scoring countries being the Central African Republic, Burundi, Tanzania, Syria, Rwanda, Togo, Guinea, Liberia, South Sudan, and Yemen.

Can you guess where Pakistan stands on this list? It is on number 80.

Surprisingly, Pakistan has been listed as number 80 out of 155 on the list of the happiest countries in the world. Looks like our ‘Choti Choti Khushyan’ enabled us as a nation to be included in the list.

Pakistan has ranked well ahead of the other South Asian countries including India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

The report also delves into different case-studies, including why Africa remains terminally unhappy, why China’s smiles are on the rise, and why America, despite its economic stability, is not among one of the top happy nations.

The happiness report suggests Nicaragua, Latvia, Sierra Leone, Ecuador, Moldova, Bulgaria, Russia, Slovakia, Chile, and Uzbekistan’s levels have improved greatly.

The report took into consideration the basic factors for happiness such as:

  • GDP per capita
  • Healthy life expectancy
  • Social support
  • Freedom
  • Generosity
  • Absence/Perception of corruption

The study also talks about America and the crisis it faces,

“America’s crisis is, in short, a social crisis, not an economic crisis.”

LU Nan Khatai’s Latest TVC ft Irrfan Khan is Going Viral

With every passing day, advertisements in Pakistan seem to be improving for the better. The recent campaign rolled out by confectioners, LU Bakeri for their brand ‘Nan Khatai’ has taken the internet by storm. Featuring renown Bollywood actor, Irrfan Khan, the commercial is a definite treat for the sore eyes.

The stunning advertisement follows Irrfan Khan’s journey from India to Pakistan in search of the purest form of Nan Khatai that is only available with Bakeri’s Nan Khatai. Irrfan has his own style which brings the authenticity the ad needs due to the traditional feel it brings.

Kudos to the creative team, from the background score to the powerful dialogues everything is spot on. Set in Lahore the commercial brings the actor to Pakistan all the way from India, in order to find out the secret behind the authentic taste of his favorite biscuit.

The agency behind the ad is, Spectrum Y&R and has been produced under the banner of SeeMe Productions.

Irrfan Khan asks the question that embodies the true value that the biscuit holds for him and the reason he’s traveled miles away,

“Riwayat se jura khasta maza sirf Lu ki Bakeri, NanKhatai mai hi kyu milta hai?”

The ad received praise from Pakistanis who loved the entire concept the ad portrays

However, not everyone was happy about the casting of a Bollywood actor in the ad.

A question that’s on a lot of minds.

The other confusion that seems to be troubling the Pakistani audience is whether Irrfan visited Lahore for the shoot. People are also wondering the reason behind casting a Bollywood star in a biscuit commercial. However, we do believe the message the brand is trying to put across fits the actor well.

Apart From Aamir Liaquat, Another Pakistani Celebrity Exposed BOL!

We all remember the time BOl TV created an uproar in the entertainment circuit of Pakistan with its launch. The network entered the race to leave the rest behind with its power-packed talk shows, popular media moguls, and state-of-the-art infrastructure.

But seems like its dream of creating a vast media empire seems to be crashing now that its members are gradually resigning and are exposing the media house like nobody’s business.

It all started when Aamir Liaquat dropped a bomb on all of us by declaring his divorce from BOL Network & ended his year-long relationship with his ex.

Apparently, his dues were not cleared by BOL and now Aamir is demanding to be paid for his services.

He defamed the network’s name, claiming that he was paid to slander various personalities by the channel.

So more drama unfolded as BOL Hit back at Liaquat and claimed all his allegations as false.

Jumping on to this hullabaloo was Hamza Ali Abbasi and of course, he sided with BOL in this discussion.

What people did not know was that back in August, veteran actor & comedian Sajid Hasan exposed BOL with allegations similar to that of Liaquat.

Apparently, he too was a victim of no rewards and complained about dirty politics in the network.

While the screenshot is 4 months old, it has now resurfaced and is going viral on social media.

These charges by BOL’s biggest former icons are a big question mark on channel’s reputation and standing.

How will BOL channel fight all the claims and respond to negative publicity, let’s wait and watch!

353 Buildings Declared Dangerous in Karachi

The Sindh Building Control Authority’s (SBCA) has recently announced the list of dangerous buildings. A total of 353 constructions in Karachi are in the worst structural conditions.

Due to the dangerous weak structures, the 353 buildings have now been labeled dangerous putting the residents in a powerless position as they would now have to vacate their homes ASAP.

Recently, there was an incident at Liaquatabad four months ago when a building collapsed claiming many innocent lives.

After the 305 buildings on the SBCA list, they have now added 48 more structures as ‘dangerous’. However, no precautionary measures have been taken.

The Mayor of Karachi, Wasim Akhtar, has also expressed concern over the negligence of the concerned authorities in-charge. The alternative accommodation for the residents staying in the old buildings that have been deemed unsafe has not yet been sorted out by the government.

In a previous report by the SBCA, some of the buildings on the list are from the following areas:

Saddar Town – 15 buildings
Lyari – 20 buildings
Liaquatabad – 18 buildings
Ranchore Line Quarters  – 28 buildings

The buildings have been asked to be immediately evacuated by the SBCA. The public blames the authorities responsible for not paying attention to the grave danger the residents of these crumbling structures are stuck in.

First Pakistani Woman Becomes Detective Superintendent of Scotland Yard

Shabnam Chaudhri, a British-Pakistani woman who moved to Britain with her parents at the age of 2, has now been appointed as the first-ever Muslim detective superintendent of the Scotland Yard.

Shabnam Chaudhri, Superintendent, Scotland Yard.

She has been granted this status for her ‘outstanding contribution’ to the fight against hate crime and criminal gangs.

Shabnam has always been passionate about her professional and once reported that she had joined police in 1989 in London against the wishes of her parents who wanted her to get married and have children.

“My parents wanted me to get married early and settle down. I opposed and joined the police to make a difference. When my parents saw that I was fighting crimes and helping people in need, they became happy and proud of me.

She further talks about her journey,

Those were times when there were not many Asian and Muslim women in the police. Women from our background are still reluctant to come to the police but I think they should apply for the police jobs.”

As cited on UK Metropolitan website,

“Shabnam is seen as a role model, both internally and externally within communities across London. She is committed to engaging with diverse communities and has delivered a number of events across London on hate crime, domestic abuse, and delivers empowerment presentations to women from the hard to reach groups.”

In November 2016, she led the Girls Allowed event for over 400 young girls between the ages of 14 – 25, attended by the Deputy Mayor of Policing and Crime, Sophie Linden.

Shabnam works against hate crimes and domestic abuse and has won dozens of awards for serving across London in her 28 years of police service. She is also a public speaker and gives presentations on empowerment to women belonging to hard-reach groups.

The talented Pakistani said,

“Becoming detective superintendent is a big achievement for me because I worked for 6 years for this position. I have fought crime gangs, I have been kicked, attacked, punched, assaulted, chased and gangs have targeted me. I worked at the London Olympics and at many other high profile events. I was supported by my bosses for this position when I applied for it. I would like more Muslim and Asian women to be in the police”.

In the 1980’s the term Black Friday began to be used by retailers to refer to the single day of the year when retail companies finally go ‘into the black and make a profit’ after being ‘in the red’ for almost all year.

Realising what a great opportunity this is – for both, retailers and consumers – other stores quickly caught up and by the 1990’s, and Black Friday turned into a nationwide sensation.

The UK and Canada were relatively late in joining the Black Friday frenzy; however, it didn’t take too long before the glorious discounts day became the busiest sales day of the year there as well.

Black Friday is all about unimaginable discounts, special offers and massive deals across all retail verticals. While electronics maintain their position as the hottest retail category worldwide, fashion is next in line and beauty follows closely.

Black Friday In Pakistan

The trend first began when online shopping portals saw the potential business and profits of this day online – they introduced Black Friday to the internet with lightning deals happening every hour, the concept spread like wildfire to other online retailers worldwide and it absolutely made no sense for Pakistan to be left out.

However, there has been an immense backlash on the term ‘Black’ being used for Fridays. Social media has been abuzz with the various views people have. While some believe it has no relevance in Pakistani culture others feel it is un-Islamic to call Friday, ‘Black’.

From Black Friday, the shopping festival is now being called, ‘Blessed’, ‘Big’ and ‘White’ but the discounted deals are still available.

Popular E-commerce websites, Daraz and Yayvo have shifted from Black Friday to Big Friday and White Friday respectively.

Taking in the marketing point of view, a product must be integrated into a foreign culture after thorough research has been carried out. Not only are there various specifications to follow but religious views and beliefs have to be taken into consideration. Calling Friday, ‘Black’ goes against the Pakistani culture and it has therefore received backlash from the masses!
