First Pakistani Woman Becomes Detective Superintendent of Scotland Yard

Shabnam Chaudhri, a British-Pakistani woman who moved to Britain with her parents at the age of 2, has now been appointed as the first-ever Muslim detective superintendent of the Scotland Yard.

Shabnam Chaudhri, Superintendent, Scotland Yard.

She has been granted this status for her ‘outstanding contribution’ to the fight against hate crime and criminal gangs.

Shabnam has always been passionate about her professional and once reported that she had joined police in 1989 in London against the wishes of her parents who wanted her to get married and have children.

“My parents wanted me to get married early and settle down. I opposed and joined the police to make a difference. When my parents saw that I was fighting crimes and helping people in need, they became happy and proud of me.

She further talks about her journey,

Those were times when there were not many Asian and Muslim women in the police. Women from our background are still reluctant to come to the police but I think they should apply for the police jobs.”

As cited on UK Metropolitan website,

“Shabnam is seen as a role model, both internally and externally within communities across London. She is committed to engaging with diverse communities and has delivered a number of events across London on hate crime, domestic abuse, and delivers empowerment presentations to women from the hard to reach groups.”

In November 2016, she led the Girls Allowed event for over 400 young girls between the ages of 14 – 25, attended by the Deputy Mayor of Policing and Crime, Sophie Linden.

Shabnam works against hate crimes and domestic abuse and has won dozens of awards for serving across London in her 28 years of police service. She is also a public speaker and gives presentations on empowerment to women belonging to hard-reach groups.

The talented Pakistani said,

“Becoming detective superintendent is a big achievement for me because I worked for 6 years for this position. I have fought crime gangs, I have been kicked, attacked, punched, assaulted, chased and gangs have targeted me. I worked at the London Olympics and at many other high profile events. I was supported by my bosses for this position when I applied for it. I would like more Muslim and Asian women to be in the police”.

The Reality Behind Black Friday & How Pakistani Brands are Celebrating it!

On the last Friday of November, millions of people around the globe prep up for the best sales event of the year; wallets in hand and sanity out the window – it’s Black Friday, the day you can make all your shopping dreams, that otherwise seem unattainable, come true. It marks the beginning of the Christmas shopping season.

Evolution Of Black Friday Sales Concept

The Black Friday sales concept was initiated in the U.S by American multinational Macy’s, during their Thanksgiving Day Parade. In the 1960s, the sales day was officially given the name Black Friday which stuck and spread.

In the 1980’s the term Black Friday began to be used by retailers to refer to the single day of the year when retail companies finally go ‘into the black and make a profit’ after being ‘in the red’ for almost all year.

Realising what a great opportunity this is – for both, retailers and consumers – other stores quickly caught up and by the 1990’s, and Black Friday turned into a nationwide sensation.

The UK and Canada were relatively late in joining the Black Friday frenzy; however, it didn’t take too long before the glorious discounts day became the busiest sales day of the year there as well.

Black Friday is all about unimaginable discounts, special offers and massive deals across all retail verticals. While electronics maintain their position as the hottest retail category worldwide, fashion is next in line and beauty follows closely.

Black Friday In Pakistan

The trend first began when online shopping portals saw the potential business and profits of this day online – they introduced Black Friday to the internet with lightning deals happening every hour, the concept spread like wildfire to other online retailers worldwide and it absolutely made no sense for Pakistan to be left out.

However, there has been an immense backlash on the term ‘Black’ being used for Fridays. Social media has been abuzz with the various views people have. While some believe it has no relevance in Pakistani culture others feel it is un-Islamic to call Friday, ‘Black’.

From Black Friday, the shopping festival is now being called, ‘Blessed’, ‘Big’ and ‘White’ but the discounted deals are still available.

Popular E-commerce websites, Daraz and Yayvo have shifted from Black Friday to Big Friday and White Friday respectively.

Taking in the marketing point of view, a product must be integrated into a foreign culture after thorough research has been carried out. Not only are there various specifications to follow but religious views and beliefs have to be taken into consideration. Calling Friday, ‘Black’ goes against the Pakistani culture and it has therefore received backlash from the masses!

 Yayvo’s White Friday!

Daraz turns Black Friday to Big Friday!

KFC chose to call it Blessed Friday keeping the Islamic point of view in mind.

Johnny Rockets celebrates Blessed Friday with discounted deals.

Padmavati Controversy: Dead Body Found Hanging With a Warning About the Movie

Over the years, Sanjay Leela Bhansali has been on a winning streak in Bollywood with blockbuster movies like Bajirao Mastani, Mary Kom, Ram Leela, and not to forget Black.

However, recently the veteran has found himself in the eye of controversy with his big-budgeted film ‘Padmavati’, starring the trio of Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor, and Deepika Padukone.

The historical drama has been subjected to bad luck the day its shooting began. And now, just days before its release, a chaos has erupted in the whole of India.  Conservative groups are demanding a ban on the movie for tampering with facts and insulting the iconic queen, Padmini.

You won’t believe that BJP’s Haryana Minister offered a bounty of Rs. 10 crores to whoever will chop off Deepika Padukone’s head.

And now a dead body was found hanging on the ramparts of Jaipur’s Nahargarh Fort with a warning note against Padmavati.

Courtesy: Google

The note read:

“We don’t burn effigies, we hang,”

Things have seriously gotten out of hands in India!

Earlier, the crew was subjected to violent protests during Padmavati’s shooting near the same fort earlier this year.  Bhansali was even slapped by an angry protestor.
The movie narrates the story of 14th-Century Hindu queen belonging to the high Rajput caste and the Muslim ruler, Alauddin Khilji.
It is shocking to see the extent Indians can go just to bar a film that revolves around the story of Queen Padmini.

The Indian fraternity is protesting against the hullabaloo being created against the flick.

We wonder if the magnum opus will even see the light of the day.

This Canola Oil is the Game Changer for a Healthy Life

Do you know there are various Canola oil brands in Pakistan that claim to be 100% pure but are actually NOT?

Canola oil is one of the best oils for the health of the human heart. It is extracted from the crushed seeds of the Canola plant; a part of the Brassica family. Seeds from the mature Canola plants are used to extract oil which is then refined for public consumption.

BUT BEWARE!

With the increased hype for Canola oil, every company has started selling it in order to meet the demands of the market. There have been cases of substandard Canola oil being sold in the market, claiming to be natural Canola oil.

CONSUMERS DON’T REALIZE THAT THEY ARE BEING FOOLED!

Most of the times, oils are blended with other low-priced oils like Olein, especially during the summer season. The mixing of oils lessens the health benefits associated with Canola oil and consumers are deceived as they are receiving an impure product not worth the price being paid.

Brands intentionally keep consumers unaware of these unethical practices. Consequently, they compromise on the health of users just to boost their own profits.

SO WHAT’S THE SOLUTION?

Many might not be aware but IFFCO, a UAE-based multinational edible oil company in Pakistan, is offering the purest form of Canola oil with its flagship brand ‘Golden Sun’.

Raising the bar, Golden Sun is produced in IFFCO’s own Solvent Extraction Plant by using high-quality Canola seeds. They produce real Canola oil without any adulteration in every batch, 365 days of the year.

GOLDEN SUN OUTSHINES THE REST IN QUALITY!

Recently, a survey was conducted to determine the quality of Canola oil brands in Pakistan. It concluded Golden Sun Canola Oil having the highest percentage of unsaturated fats, including mono and polyunsaturated fats as compared to other players in the market. It also has the lowest percentage of saturated fats which are bad for health.

HERE’S WHY GOLDEN SUN CANOLA OIL IS AWESOME FOR YOUR BODY!

1. Increases Your Immunity Like A Boss!

A regular consumption of Canola oil increases the body’s immunity and metabolism rate that results in a healthier lifestyle.

2. Helps You Reduce Your Waistline

Living in Pakistan, many of our foods are cooked using a lot of oil and we can’t always opt for a healthier alternative. Using Canola oil for deep frying would be the healthiest choice as it’s free of Erucic acid and has the highest smoke point. It results in a lower oil retention of fried foods.

3. Makes Your Heart Healthy

The regular intake of Canola oil inhibits the absorption of cholesterol in the body. Canola is rich in monounsaturated fats (MUFA) which reduces LDL (bad cholesterol) and increases the good cholesterol (HDL), stimulating a healthy profile.

4. Reduces Inflammation

Canola oil is known to reduce tenderness and stiffness in the joints. For those people who suffer from chronic arthritis, asthma, and bowel disorders, Canola oil is known to be helpful in such cases.

5. Say Goodbye to Ageing & Acne!

Canola oil is rich in Vitamins E and K, reduces skin blemishes, aging, acne, fine lines, wrinkles, and spots, leaving the skin healthier and nourished.

Incorporating Canola oil into your daily routine will make a favorable impact on your overall health. Change your diet for a happier and healthier life!

Adnan Sami Defames Pakistan Once Again

Singer, composer and songwriter, Adnan Sami has always been in hot water for his remarks on Pakistan. Being a former citizen of Pakistan, the singer migrated and acquired citizenship for India after years of struggle.

Celebrating his third anniversary on becoming an Indian citizen, he spoke to Indian media outlet, Mid-day about the issues he faced in his country of origin including social media bullying. He also mentioned,

“Pakistan gave him little hope as an artist.”

Looks like Adnan Sami has quite a few complaints from Pakistan. He spoke about how the country has never valued its artists. He was quoted to say,

“Pakistan doesn’t value its artistes. I will get trolled for what I have said, but, that is the reality.”

Adnan Sami Khan has spoken about the late Ustaad, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and how Pakistan did not value him until he began collaborating with the west.

“It is unfortunate. Pakistan never valued Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan saab until English songwriter Peter Gabriel started collaborating with him. After that, the country suddenly realised that it has an amazing talent. This is the story of a lot of artistes there.”

Khan seems to be upset after he was refused Pakistani citizenship a month before he became an Indian national. He then adds,

“The way the Pakistani government treated me is only testimony to the ill-treatment meted to out to artists. There was outrage against me.”

Sami has settled down in India and is now gearing up for his first live performance in the country. He is all set to sing the Indian National Anthem in order to celebrate being Indian and supporting underprivileged children.

“I don’t give a damn about getting trolled. I have earned immense respect and love in India.”

However, the ex-Pakistani seems to be upset with Pakistani artists as well.  He believes the actors should have condemned the Uri attacks in India.

“When Indians have loved and embraced Pakistani artistes, why can’t the latter come out in their support when injustice has been meted out to the people? No one wants these artistes to wage a war against their government. People didn’t demand that they condemn their own country. They just expected them to say something for the sake of humanity.”

We do question why Khan did not mention the treatment India gave to our artists after the Uri attacks. A ban on Pakistani actors and actresses from working in India was passed, Mahira Khan, Fawad Khan, Ali Zafar and Atif Aslam all left India even though they were working on huge Bollywood projects at the time.

Do you agree with Adnan Sami Khan on how Pakistan treats its celebrities? Let us know in the comments below.

Baaghi Drama on Urdu1: Salman Takes Kanwal’s Side For The First Time!

Urdu1’s ground-breaking drama, Baaghi is continuing to reach new heights with its

Kanwal, played by the striking Saba Qamar, has now started to take over the world of glamor, reaping a huge fan base and attaining sympathy of many people.

In this episode, we witnessed how media agencies and channels took advantage of her just for the rating game, and how they edited her clips for their own benefit.

Baaghi tonight only on urdu1 at 8:00 pm Baaghi @sabaqamarzaman @aclockworkobi @baaghi_official

A post shared by baaghi (@baaghi_official) on

The episode opened to Abid being shocked when he sees Fauzia giving the singing audition. Of course, he was skeptic about the fact that his ex-wife was wearing western clothes and couldn’t believe that she could even speak fluent English.

Meanwhile, Kanwal receives a call from her home where her sister tells her that her family saw the audition clippings and could not believe if it was Fauzia or not. She also said:

“Baaji tujh ko pata hai us nay kitnay chichoray kapray pehnay thay. Fuzool harkatein kar rahi thi. May nay socha meri baaji to aisa kar hi nahi sakti”.

Guilt-stricken, Kanwal lied to her by saying that it wasn’t her and must be someone else.

Gohar also wants Kanwal to go to Dubai for a client. He encourages her to seize the offer by saying that she will earn a lot of money for herself. But our heroine is now hesitant to grab the proposal after her the conversation with her sister.

What is more, a famous news channel contacts the emerging superstar and wants to take her interview.

Unfortunately, Kanwal had no clue what was coming for her, and she agreed to it. When the TV anchors came in for her interview, they were in aghast with her straightforward behavior.

Consequently, they took a dig at her,  insulting her indirectly, which pushed the hot-headed social media star to kick the team out of her room.

The news channel team then edited Kanwal’s interview as revenge and portrayed her as the villain of the story

On the other side, Fauzia’s family problems have touched the sky. The family is drowning in the pool of debts, Munna is indulging in bad activities and has stopped going to school as the family was unable to pay his fee. The family then decides to wave off their debts from the money Fauzia has sent.

The drama takes an interesting turn when Salman, who defamed Kanwal, is now ready to support her as he thinks whatever is happening to her is wrong.

He airs a video in which he supports the poor lady, and gives the judges a time of 2 days in which they should apologize to Kanwal, otherwise, as he said, “ye jung ap ki aur meri shiru ho jaye gi”.

The episode closed to a deep conversation between Shehryaar and Kanwal at a restaurant at 3 in the morning, when Kanwal is trying to make up her mind on “Izzat aur paisay”.

Shehryaar, all upset, pours his heart out in front of Kanwal and shares his sadness with her. He tells her that it was the day when his wife and child passed away in a tragic incident. The episode ended on Kanwal being all shocked and jaw-dropped by listening to this statement of Shehriyar.

Saba and OKB have made the drama even more captivating with their presence. Their stellar performances are adding the zeal to the tale and we wonder what is next to come in the story.

Bus Driver kills 6-Year Old in Karachi; Chaos Erupts in the City

In an unfortunate turn of events, another little angel lost her life. The 6-yr old girl, Sakina, who was on her way to school when she was hit by a bus in a traffic accident at Radio Pakistan Signal.

According to reports, two buses were racing on MA Jinnah Road leading towards Numaish, when one of the buses collided with the motorcycle. The crowd refused to let members of rescue forces and fire brigades pass through and douse the flames.

She passed away before the body was transported to Civil hospital. An angry mob ignited busses and threw rocks to show their anger when the bus driver and conductor successfully got away. This made things worse as it added fuel to the mob’s anger. However, police have arrested 11 for torching the buses.

Although the fires were extinguished and the driver is now behind bars, the accident sends an electric shock throughout one’s entire body and numbs the mind. Who would have thought a little girl would become a victim of bus races, leaving the father badly injured.

It is a shame how drivers can be so reckless that they turn a blind eye towards the safety and security of the individuals who are traveling on the roads. It is high-time such drivers are taught how to actually drive on the roads, and about time the government wakes up and establishes proper laws which seem to be taken as jokes in a country like Pakistan.

These drivers should not be allowed to drive any kind of vehicle without proper trials and guarantees from their employers and strict penalties need to be implied. It was Sakina who lost her life, tomorrow it could be someone who was dear to us.

Stay safe, stay updated. Stay tuned to Brandsynario for more news and updates.

Black Friday to be Banned by Islamabad High Court?

The Black Friday craze began in the United States, however, the biggest shopping bonanza has become a norm across the world. The phenomena has now reached Pakistan and are causing quite a frenzy due to the word ‘Black’ being associated with Friday, a day that is said to be blessed as per Islamic beliefs.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has now banned the discount sale festival due to it being ‘contrary to Islamic teachings’. The Chairman PEMRA, District Magistrate, Chief Commissioner and Chairman Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) were made part of the petition.

Black Friday marks the beginning of the Christmas season with sales and unbeatable deals, however, the argument in Pakistan states the tradition is alien to Pakistani culture and its recent popularity has disgruntled quite a few people.

According to the petitioner, he believed calling Friday black is a crime as the Almighty has named it as the chief of all days. He further added,

“According to the dictionary, Black Friday means ill-fated or black day. Hence, the court must ban the celebration of Black Friday on November 24 in Pakistan.”

The petitioner for the ban has also added,

“Government officials must also be barred from attending ceremonies under the same banner.”

Advocate Azhar Siddique has written a letter to the president and provincial Chief Ministers to ban Black Friday and its promotion on an official level.

However he has further said,

“Consumers could be facilitated under the banner of ‘Bright Friday’ instead.”

Apart from the advocate and petitioner, Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) MD Chaudhry Abdul Ghafoor had also previously spoken against Black Friday on Wednesday,

“It is disgusting that some business tycoons are bringing Friday a bad name of ‘black’ just to blindly follow the West for increasing their business. Friday is a gift for Muslims, which is holy, blessed, and a virtuous day.”

Android Smartphones Can Track Locations Despite Disabled Tracking

In modern times where security has become even more vulnerable, it comes to some as a surprise and others as a shock that tracking an individual’s location has become a piece of cake.

For Android users, their security seems to be even more compromised. As the result of an investigation carried out, it was found that Android Smartphones were able to track the location of the user despite tracking being disabled.

The data is collected and is sent to the servers at Google once there is an internet connection.

Black Friday Gaming Console Deals You Need to Avail!

“Since the beginning of 2017, Android phones have been collecting the addresses of nearby cellular towers—even when location services are disabled—and sending that data back to Google,” reveals the report by Quartz.

When approached and given the report, Google acknowledged the practice, which comes under the compromise of user security as it is unwilling by many. The company has said that they will end it.

“In January of this year, we began looking into using Cell ID codes as an additional signal to further improve the speed and performance of message delivery,” Google spokesperson said in an email.

Google explained that this practice was done not for the purpose of tracking users but instead it was to enhance their messaging services.

“We never incorporated Cell ID into our network sync system, so that data was immediately discarded, and we updated it to no longer request Cell ID,” Google spokesperson further added.

Although the data which is sent to Google is encrypted, hackers with the right software and tools can misuse it, putting the user at risk.
