Karachi to Brace Natural Disasters in the Near Future

After Punjab has been engulfed in hazardous smoke, it has been reported by experts that the city of lights, Karachi may face extreme dust storms such as the ones in the Middle East or cyclones and hurricanes that recently hit America. The ever-changing climate and global warming have been cited as the main cause of these future natural disasters.

Deadly heat waves and torrential rains have struck almost every year recently, because of climate change. The expert environmentalist, Dr. Pervaiz Amir spoke on the effects of climate change at an event titled, ‘Environmental Degradation and Climate Change with Special focus on Karachi.’

He mentioned the city of Karachi would be the most affected out of all the cities in Pakistan,

“In the days to come, Karachi may face extreme dust storms, devastating cyclones and hurricanes in the Arabian Sea as well as smog.”

Dr. Amir has talked about the plantation of millions of trees as the only viable option to combat the disaster to be caused by climate change. The planting of trees across the entire coastal belt is needed to protect the country against expected hurricanes and dust storms as temperatures in the Arabian Sea continue to rise.

The environmentalist has added that the deadly smog taking over Punjab is not that far off from Karachi. Smog being a manmade phenomenon would soon start occurring in the metropolis too. He further adds,

“I would urge the citizens and the authorities to stop expanding and populating this city or it would be extremely disastrous in the coming years. Instead of expanding this city, construct five to six more cities on the coastal belt of the country and divert rural population to those new cities.”

Dr. Amir said Pakistan is among the world’s top 10 countries most vulnerable to climate change and its effects.

According to Dr. Amir, Pakistan could face destabilization because of extreme weather conditions, natural disasters and environmental pollution which may cause mass migration and disease outbreaks across the country.

He further made a shocking statement where he recommended closing down schools in the country for a year in order to meet the challenges of tree plantation in Pakistan.

“The only way forward for Pakistan to meet these challenges is enhancing tree plantation. I would even recommend closing down all the schools in the country for one year and using all this workforce and students on tree plantation, which is vital for our survival.”

Baaghi Urdu1 Review: Kanwal Takes Over Social Media by Storm!

Up till now, we have seen Fauzia turning in to Kanwal slowly and steadily, however in Baaghi episode 16, the transformation is completed, but there’s still a long way for our girl to go as her journey has just started.

The show lasts ends with Salman Ali taking advantage of a clip from the show in which Kanwal is seen in a cat-fight with other contestants from the reality show shoot.

The number of likes and comments increasingly makes Kanwal anxious to which Rehan gives her an idea, reply back with a big slap on his face!

Kanwal goes and gets dolled up, and for the first time in the last 16 episodes, we see the transformation of Fauzia Batool into Kanwal Baloch, the social media star and activist.

We then see that Abid is once again having a fling with his new ‘love interest’ in his shop. He seems to be planning a get-away-weekend trip with her for which he asks her to convince her parents, and she says she will manage.

We have seen Abid wooing women in his shop by complimenting them and giving free gifts, which clearly shows that the mentality he has is sickening, which makes us wonder if he will for another woman soon once again.

In between, we see that her younger brother has started to slip off the tracks by being involved in smoking, school bunking, and is often seen being bullied around by the other boys in the village.

Coming back to Fauzia, she is seen restless, unable to sleep and eager to hear her child’s voice. She calls her sister-in-law, begging for her son, asking to hear his voice just once, but her request is denied, and she cries herself back to sleep.

While Kanwal scrolls through the mix amount of comments and feedback she receives on her page, she decides to reply back to each one of them, as according to her thinking, men have a lot of time to waste when it comes to giving attention to ‘bad women’. So, she writes her status about how good women are ignored and men have no time for them but for bad women, men will always have time.

She then starts talking about women empowerment and how men get offended when the term ‘girl power’ is used. She continues to tell them that strong women, mothers who give birth and show power, the miracle of life, are disowned by their own children, and spouses.

Kanwal is still looking for grade A as to work in but finds no luck. She is then seen waiting at a bus stop and is approached by a young boy. He asks her if she is Kanwal Baloch when she replies “Yes”, he expresses that he is a very big fan of hers because she encourages women empowerment and asks her if he can take a selfie, and to her surprise, she comes across her first fan and is estatic!

TEDx IoBM: Renowned Speakers Talk About ‘Breaking Barriers’

Ted X is an international community that allows speakers from various places to speak on any locally derived topic. This is mainly to bring the idea on an international stage with the platform of Ted following all the Ted rules.

Ted talks are generally concise and every speaker speaks for almost 5 to 8 minutes giving out the best knowledge in minimal time. Recently, a Ted X event was held in IoBM with 10 extremely renowned speakers attending the event.

The speakers included:

  • Ramish Safa
  • Dr Irfan Hyder
  • Shoaib Iqbal
  • Syed Mohsyn
  • Komail Abbas Naqvi
  • Sabina Khatri
  • Akbar Chaudhary
  • Amna Raheel
  • Ghalib & Rushanay

The highlights of the events included Rushanay’s inspiring story when she stepped up to do something for the society and along with her friends visited hospitals to distribute food. The happiness she got from doing this was much greater than the cussing words of the society which didn’t stop her at all.

Ghalib shared his personal story and how he encountered depression and escaped that bubble with helping others. The duo focused on doing little things, overcoming barriers and then achieving big because in the end actions speak louder than words.

Komail Naqvi a LUMS grad then spoke about his personal experience and how he realized he was not a 9 to 5 office person. His main barriers from the society was excessive family pressure and fear of acceptability. But they were not enough to stop Kumail from his ambitions.

Ramish Safa was one of those who also faced such pressures and of those who was born only to become an engineer however he is one of the most experienced digital designer graduated from IoBM only with brilliant entrepreneurship skills which made him what he is today.

Sabina Khatri’s emotional talk was the limelight of the event. She narrated different stories of which the most impactful was of the little girl molested by her maternal grandfather on a daily basis. She emphasized on healing yourself which will make you independent, fearless, less judgmental, more open to people and more expressive.

She also focused on achieving proactive empathy. Her life was a bundle of mistakes but what she learnt from them actually mattered to her. Her curiosity made her what she is today. She advised the people listening to hold the hand of a lost soul because it will light a ray of hope which this world severely needs.

Amna Raheel was one of the most inspirational speaker amongst all. Her walking disability was one of the major reasons she faced barriers but when she decided to overcome it and accept what she is then she explored her new self. After realizing this, her life changed completely; she started to speak up, feel more confident and inspire others to accept themselves the way they are.

Akbar Chaudhry the comedian engineer stole the show with his humor and knowledge. He emphasized that being academically strong isn’t necessary to succeed in life. It’s what you want to accomplish and not what others tell you to achieve. He advised on not taking the easy way out because hard work is the only way to succeed.

The event ended with great success giving us the moral that no barriers can hold us if we really want to overcome them and no individual has ever been born without a talent. Whenever demotivation takes over to tell you how amazing you are because you are enough for yourself.

Poisonous Water Being Sold as Mineral Water!

The substandard quality of products available in Pakistan is an ongoing problem. From basic necessities to luxury items, everything needs to be double checked before consumption!

However, it becomes tough when people find out they’ve been paying an extra amount for something being sold off as ‘hygienic’ and ‘pure’. It has been reported that a complaint has been made by opposition leader of PTI in the Punjab assembly against those companies selling polluted poisonous water in mineral water bottles.

Muhammad Sibtain Khan, deputy opposition leader, PTI mentioned,

“A report had 104 contaminated samples of mineral water were found in various areas of the city.”

He further explained how the water can be termed as, ‘poison’ and said that poisonous water is being sold in the name of mineral water.

He also adds people involved in this business were cheating people and also earning billions. However, no one has taken any action against the companies responsible for the hazardous water.

In January, the PCRWR reported that almost 10-15% of the water has been contaminated and filled with chemicals since the year 2002.

These 11 mineral water brands had been found contaminated by the PCRWR:

  1. Well Care
  2. Lite Aqua
  3. New Premier
  4. Royal Blue
  5. Aqua Safe
  6. Aqua Drink Water
  7. Rahat
  8. Oslo

‘Paimanay’ Drama on Urdu1: Fatima Effendi & Imran Ashraf’s Performance is a Must Watch!

Urdu1 is flying high with some seriously ah-may-zing dramas this year. Earlier this year, it kept us riveted with Titli, moved us to tears with Be Inteha’s story and now is breaking records with Baaghi.

Yet another serial ‘Paimanay’ made its debut yesterday and we bet it will join the likes of its stellar dramas this year.

What makes us say so?

Paimanay has multiple elements that will make you hooked to its storyline. Many might say that the drama offers the usual cliched tale that is commonly seen on our television channels. However, we have to admit that despite Paimany being a complicated love story, it portrays an unconventional saga of passion, desire, envy, and hate.

Not to forget, it has a soul-stirring OST with uber romantic lyrics, compelling you to play it on repeat. But what will make us truly follow the drama is its ensemble cast of Eshal Fayyaz, Imran Ashraf, Fatima Effendi and Asad Siddiqui.

And we really need to talk about how hot and rugged Asad is looking as the auto-driver, Aamir in the drama!

Giving him fierce competition is Imran Ashraf who is all set to slay everybody with his killer acting.

There is a new face in the serial Eshal Fayyaz, playing the role of the naive and immature, Seerat.

Paimanay First episode #Tonight at 8:00 pm on Urdu1 #Urdu1 #Paimanay #FirstEpisode

Fatima Effendi is seen in the role of Aiza, who is a deceit, coquette, and golddigger of a girl.

She manipulates with Seerat’s mind, planting strange thoughts in her head about her bhabhi (Laila Wasti) and provoking her to have an affair with Aamir. Meanwhile, we witnessed major heat between Jazib and Seerat in the drama. We wondered what was that about.

Seerat’s bhabi, Aisha appears really possessive about her and doesn’t trust her at all. Aisha’s behavior is suffocating Seerat and will later prompt her to cross all boundaries in thirst for freedom.

We absolutely loved Fatima Effendi’s acting in the first episode. She has aced the mischevious role with such ease, appearing all natural with her performance. Imran Ashraf had a very small appearance yesterday, making us eager to see his magic in the upcoming. episodes.  Asad Siddiqui, essaying the role of flirt and a tacky lover, is nailing his crude avatar.

Eshal Fayyaz seems to have a lot of potential, and we are yet to see many shades of her performance in the upcoming episodes

For those who don’t know, Paimanay airs every Wednesday at 8 PM on Urdu1.

Honda Pakistan ‘Threatened’ for Legal Action by Oil Companies

Honda Pakistan filed a complaint claiming that the high amount of Maganese in fuel supplied by Pakistan State Oil (PSO), Shell and Total is what causes their car engines to catch fire. The company collected samples and the results back their claim.

However, oil companies are not happy and have threatened to take Honda to court and file a legal claim if the manufacturer does not withdraw the complaint.

Oil Companies Advisory Council (OCAC), the representative body of the 3 oil suppliers has made the threat.

Oil Brands Hit Back at Honda Pakistan for False Accusations!

On the other hand, Hascol Petroleum, also a member of the body supported Honda Pakistan’s claim of the fuel supplies having high traces of Maganese.

They also approached the government to upgrade the low-fuel quality being supplied in the market so that it can meet standard quality.

According to Dawn, OCAC official said Hascol was trying to cash in from badmouthing three largest OMCs for a higher market share even though its entire fuel supplies in the market were of the same origin and quality standards. He said the OCAC would deal with Hascol internally.

OCAC clarified that the fuel, which is currently being supplied in the country is approved by authorities and meets all standards set by the government and the concerned committees.

Honda Blames Leading Petrol Brands for Fire-Breakouts in Engine!

OCAC clarified that fuel being sold in the country is strictly in accordance with the approved specifications issued by the Ministry of Energy, Petroleum Division. This is also a fact that:

“all OMCs, including Hascol, import and buy petroleum products from local refineries in accordance with the official country specifications. Therefore, petroleum products being sold by all OMCs are on exactly the same specifications across Pakistan,” it said.

Dawn states, OCAC has said the most likely cause of any observed catalyst blocking was a faulty engine management system or high sulphur fuels. Sulphur in fuel is damaging to catalytic converters; it will poison catalyst surfaces, reducing the efficiency of the catalyst and sulphur compounds (sulphates) can block catalyst substrates.

An OCAC official further added that there is no limit on manganese content in the government’s standards for petrol.

Stray Reflections from Allama Iqbal’s Private Notebook

Allama-Iqbal-Lead

Thomas Hood, English Poet and Humorist, who wrote poem Eugene Aram’s Dream described the 11th month of the Gregorian calendar in a phrase: “No shade, no shine, no butterflies, no bees, no fruits, no flowers, no leaves, no birds, – November”. But our very own Dr. Muhammad Iqbal’s birthday that falls on ‘November 09’ is a special time to celebrate the gift of ‘Iqbal Lahori’, as internationally called, to the world. I thought if Mr. Hood had observed in his lifetime the multiple shades, shines, colors, fragrances and the flights of fancies of maverick Iqbal he would have a different thought about November. Unfortunately, Hood died in 1845 far before Iqbal.

In Pakistan as well as in India, Iran and around the world, media and literary organisations celebrate the birthday event of the great thinker, philosopher, poet and writer through special editions, talk shows and seminars in which intellectuals from different sectors highlight on the life and work of Iqbal that is not only diverse but very expansive too. Nevertheless it is almost very difficult if not impossible to do justice with this creative giant of all times.

In this article, let me present Iqbal through different perspective even though I am an elementary level student of this great creative soul. Instead of quoting Iqbal’s Urdu and Persian couplets from his huge volumes to explain his fossil thoughts on variety of subjects,  I have selected few stray reflections and thoughts from his own private notebook published by Iqbal Academy Pakistan in 2006 [Third Edition] under the editorship of Iqbal’s own son Dr. Javed Iqbal, who died just a few weeks ago. The first edition of Stray Reflections: The Private Notebook of Muhammad Iqbal [also includes: ‘Stray Thoughts’] brought out in 1961.

According to this notebook Iqbal started writing it on April 27, 1910. It appears that he continued to write it for several months and then stopped for some unknown reason. Iqbal himself gave the title Stray Reflections to this notebook. It contains odd jottings based on his impressions of the books he was reading at that time, his thoughts and feelings about the environment in which he lived, and reminiscences of his student days. Iqbal may have stopped writing the notebook, but most of these jotting as well as additional notes which he went on scribing during the subsequent years (and which are incorporated in this volume) did appear from time to time in different English journals, news-papers, etc. of the subcontinent until 1932. He died in 1938.

Commenting on the notebook, Dr. Javed Iqbal in his ‘Afterword’ writes:

“Although we may disagree with some of his ideas, this notebook enables us to glimpse the liveliness, richness, and fertility of Iqbal’s mind. We see the many-sidedness of his interests and meet his views on a wide variety of subjects such as art, philosophy, literature, science, politics and religion. He also refers to the psychological effects of imperialism on a subjugated people.”

So here it is! I have picked only a few stray reflections and thoughts on various topics from the private notebook of Iqbal for brandsynario visitors with the purpose of revisiting his vast poetry collection under the direction of Iqbal’s own reflections and thoughts. Please go through this article meticulously and provide your feedback by expressing your angle on the subject under discussion:

Human Intellect

Human intellect is nature’s attempt at self-criticism.

Stray Reflections: The Private Notebook of Muhammad Iqbal, 17

Power of Belief

Belief is a great power. When I see that a proposition of mine is believed by another mind, my own conviction of its truth is thereby immensely increased.

Stray Reflections: The Private Notebook of Muhammad Iqbal, 23

The God of Islam

Christianity describes God as love; Islam as power. How shall we decide between the two conceptions? I think the history of mankind and of the universe as a whole must tell us as to which of the two conceptions is truer. I find that God reveals Himself in history more as power than love. I do not deny the love of God; I mean that, on the basis of our historical experience, God is better described as power.

Stray Reflections: The Private Notebook of Muhammad Iqbal, 24

Forms of Government

To my mind, government, whatever its form, is one of the determining forces of a people’s character. Loss of political power is equally ruinous to nations’ character

Stray Reflections: The Private Notebook of Muhammad Iqbal, 27

History

History is a sort of applied ethics. If ethics is to be an experimental science like other sciences, it must be based on the revelations of human experience.

Stray Reflections: The Private Notebook of Muhammad Iqbal, 31

Patriotism

Islam appeared as a protest against idolatry. And what is patriotism but a subtle form of idolatry; a deification of a material object. The patriotic songs of various nations will bear me out in my calling patriotism a deification of a material object. Islam could not tolerate idolatry in any form.

Stray Reflections: The Private Notebook of Muhammad Iqbal, 35

Justice

Justice is an inestimable treasure; but we must guard it against the thief of mercy.

Stray Reflections: The Private Notebook of Muhammad Iqbal, 36

Muslim Solidarity

From what I have said above on Islam and patriotism it follows that our solidarity as a community rests on our hold on the religious principle. The moment this hold is loosened we are nowhere. Probably the fate of the Jews will befall us. And what can we do in order to tighten the hold? Who is the principal depositary of religion in a community? It is the woman. The Musalman woman ought to receive sound religious education, for she is virtually the maker of the community.

Stray Reflections: The Private Notebook of Muhammad Iqbal, 37

The Modern Hindu

The modern Hindu is quite a phenomenon. To me his behaviour is more of a psychological than a political study. It seems that the ideal of political freedom which is an absolutely new experience to him has seized his entire soul…. Nations are mothers of ideals; but ideals, in course of time, become pregnant and give birth to new nations.

Stray Reflections: The Private Notebook of Muhammad Iqbal, 39

Right and Might

Philosophy is the logic of right, history the logic of might. The cannons of this later logic appear to be more sound than those of her sister logic.

Stray Reflections: The Private Notebook of Muhammad Iqbal, 40

The Future of Afghanistan

The verdict of history is that buffer states have never been able to form themselves into great political units. So was the case with Syria – a buffer state between the Empire of Rome and that of the Persians. It seems difficult to forecast the future of Afghanistan.

Stray Reflections: The Private Notebook of Muhammad Iqbal, 41

The Conquest of Persia

Our Muslim civilisation is a product of the cross-fertilisation of the Semitic and the Aryan ideas. It is a child who inherits the softness and refinement of his Aryan mother, and the sterling character of his Semitic father. But for the conquest of Persia, the civilisation of Islam would have been one-sided. The conquest of Persia gave us what the conquest of Greece gave to the Romans.

Stray Reflections: The Private Notebook of Muhammad Iqbal, 49

Hegel, Goethe, Ghalib, Bedil and Wordsworth

I confess I owe a great deal to Hegel, Goethe, Mirza Ghalib, Mirza Abdul Qadir Bedil and Wordsworth. The

first two led me into the “inside” of things; the third and fourth taught me how to remain oriental in spirit and expression after having assimilated foreign ideals of poetry, and the last saved me from atheism in my student days.

Stray Reflections: The Private Notebook of Muhammad Iqbal, 53

Modern Science and Democracy

Ideas act and react on each other. The growing spirit of individualism in politics is not without its influence on contemporary scientific thought. Modern thought regards the universe a democracy of living atoms.

Stray Reflections: The Private Notebook of Muhammad Iqbal, 58

Ideas

Individuals and nations die; but their children, i.e. ideas, never die.

Stray Reflections: The Private Notebook of Muhammad Iqbal, 64

The Power of Minorities

The fate of the world has been principally decided by minorities. The history of Europe bears ample testimony to the truth of this proposition. It seems to me that there is a psychological reason why minorities should have been a powerful factor in the history of mankind.

Stray Reflections: The Private Notebook of Muhammad Iqbal, 72

The Interpretation of History

History is only an interpretation of human motives; and, since we are liable to misinterpret the motives of our contemporaries and even of our intimate friends and associates in daily life, it must be far more difficult rightly to interpret the motives of those who lived centuries before us. The record of history, therefore, should be accepted with great caution.

Stray Reflections: The Private Notebook of Muhammad Iqbal, 77

The End of Education

What is the law of things? Continual struggle. What must, then, be the end of Education? Evidently preparation for the struggle. A people working for intellectual superiority reveal thereby their feebleness.

Stray Reflections: The Private Notebook of Muhammad Iqbal, 80

Waiting for the Mehdi

Give up waiting for the Mehdi – the personification of Power. Go and create him.

Stray Reflections: The Private Notebook of Muhammad Iqbal, 85

The Idea of Nationality

The idea of Nationality is certainly a healthy factor in the growth of communities. But it is apt to be exaggerated, and when exaggerated it has a tendency to kill the broad human elements in Art and Literature.

Stray Reflections: The Private Notebook of Muhammad Iqbal, 86

Self-Control

Self-Control in individuals builds families; in communities, it builds empires.

Stray Reflections: The Private Notebook of Muhammad Iqbal, 89

To Reconstruct This World

Given character and healthy imagination, it is possible to reconstruct this world of sin and misery into a veritable paradise.

Stray Reflections: The Private Notebook of Muhammad Iqbal, 92

Sin and Piety

At least in one respect sin is better than piety. There is an imaginative element in the former which is lacking in the latter.

Stray Reflections: The Private Notebook of Muhammad Iqbal, 98

Success in Life

It is determination, not brains, that succeeds in life.

Stray Reflections: The Private Notebook of Muhammad Iqbal, 101

To Become a Public Leader

If you wish to become a public leader you ought to know how to flirt with the Dame Public. Entertain her with platitudes and, if necessary, with lies.

Stray Reflections: The Private Notebook of Muhammad Iqbal, 102

A Successful Man

Recognise your limitations, estimate your capacities and your success in life is assured.

Stray Reflections: The Private Notebook of Muhammad Iqbal, 103

Democracy

Democracy has a tendency to foster the spirit of legality. This is not in itself bad; but unfortunately it tends to displace the purely moral standpoint, and to make the illegal and the wrong identical in meaning.

Stray Reflections: The Private Notebook of Muhammad Iqbal, 108

The Anatomy of the Human Mind

If you wish to study the anatomy of the human mind you may go to Wund, Ward, James or Stout. But a real insight into human nature you can get from Goethe alone.

Stray Reflections: The Private Notebook of Muhammad Iqbal, 126

The Value of the Moment

I judge the worth of my days, months and years from the experiences which they bring to me; and sometimes I am surprised to find that a single moment is more valuable than a whole year.

Stray Reflections: The Private Notebook of Muhammad Iqbal, 131

Love is a Playful Child

Love is a playful child. She makes our individuality and then quietly whispers in our ears – “Renounce it.”

Stray Reflections: The Private Notebook of Muhammad Iqbal, 138

The Man with a Single Idea

If you wish to be heard in the noise of this world, let your soul be dominated by a single idea. It is the man with a single idea who creates political and social revolutions, establishes empires and gives law to the world.

Stray Reflections: The Private Notebook of Muhammad Iqbal, 140

Art Alone is Boundless

Science, Philosophy, Religion all have limits. Art alone is boundless.

Stray Reflections: The Private Notebook of Muhammad Iqbal, 141

Absolute Knowledge and Moral Growth

The result of all philosophical thought is that absolute knowledge is an impossibility. The poet Browning turns this impossibility to ethical use by a very ingenious argument. The uncertainty of human knowledge, teaches the poet, is a necessary condition of moral growth; since complete knowledge will destroy the liberty of human choice.

Stray Reflections: The Private Notebook of Muhammad Iqbal, 142

Islam

Islam is not a religion in the ancient sense of the word. It is an attitude – an attitude, that is to say, of Freedom and even of defiance to the Universe. It is really a protest against the entire outlook of the ancient world. Briefly, it is the discovery of Man.

Stray Reflections: The Private Notebook of Muhammad Iqbal, 153

The Tauhid of Islam

Nietzsche thinks that belief in God makes man feeble. The wisdom of Islam consists in exploiting the idea of God in the interest of Man, and transforming him into a source of power for the Tauhid [In Arabic it means unity] of Islam means absolute freedom from fear and superstition in actual life. A mere intellectual belief in God does not count for much in Islam.

Stray Reflections: The Private Notebook of Muhammad Iqbal, 154

Knowledge and Fate

Knowledge partly contributes to the structure of what we call objective reality; but the character of events that drop out of the womb of Fate is wholly determined by the heart of man. It is the weak man who endows Fate with its sting. The strong man exploits his misfortunes, in as much as he enhances the force of his soul by maintaining an attitude of total indifference to them.

Stray Reflections: The Private Notebook of Muhammad Iqbal, 157

The Present

People extol the past and deprecate the present, not understanding that the present is the whole of the past concentrated in one point.

PSL vs T10 Cricket League: Most Franchises are NOT Happy with the New Format!

Pakistan Super League (PSL) changed the history of international cricket in the country for many different reasons.

One of the many included the presence of international players in Pakistan, bringing back the game to cricket enthusiasts.

However, the introduction of the new T10 Cricket League has raised a few concerns for PSL franchises and their owners.

The franchises seem to be upset with Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) extended support to the new 10-over game format.

A credible source has mentioned to Geo that the franchises believe PCB shouldn’t support a product that can create issues for PSL and jeopardize the business and its potential.

“We have conveyed this to chairman PCB Najam Sethi previously, and we are planning to do that again,” said an official of a franchise on condition of anonymity.

PSL 3 Final: National Stadium Karachi Gets a Major Renovation!

According to the source, 3 franchises are displeased with the board, while the management of PSL team, Karachi Kings, claim that PSL franchises have no issues with the newly launched T-Ten Cricket League, which will be played in Sharjah next month.

“We didn’t want a league where Pakistani players participate without the involvement of Pakistani owners, now Pakistani owners are there, so we are okay with the league, as are the other franchise,”  Karachi Kings official

Sources add that the concerned franchises had approached PCB and asked that Pakistani players shouldn’t be allowed to participate in the league.

“It was understood earlier that Pakistani players will not take part in the league and PCB will not support the idea, the sudden change of mind is astonishing,” said another franchise.

Snapchat Gets a Makeover!

Snapchat, the app that has given us many embarrassing selfies and some pretty ones, courtesy filters; is all set to undergo yet another makeover.

CEO Evan Spiegel has revealed that Snapchat is working on a significant change of its app. He has confirmed that a simpler re-design of the app is coming soon to your mobile screens!

The reason behind the change has been cited by Spiegel as,

“One thing we have heard over the years is that Snapchat is difficult to understand or hard to use, and our team has been working on responding to this feedback. As a result, we are currently redesigning our application to make it easier to use.”

Snapchat’s CEO further added that the new change may be disruptive to the business as the behavior of the users has not been anticipated!

Mercedes-Benz Pakistan Changes Price-Tag for its Cars

Who Will Take Over Coke Studio?

The music scene in Pakistan may not be progressing as predicted but thanks to Coke Studio, talented individuals have a platform to prove their mettle. In fact, Coke Studio on this side of the border has comparatively done well than its counterpart in India and that’s what makes it a prized catch.

With Strings no longer associated with the show, the Coke people are on the lookout for a new Captain for their most successful ship.

We have a few ideas that might help Coke Studio remain the guiding light for all those talented music composers and singers out there who are anxiously waiting for the announcement of their savior.

1-Shiraz Uppal

If it were up to me, I would have handed over the reins of Coke Studio to Shiraz Uppal as soon as he had done Atif Aslam’s Tajdar e Haram in Season 8. The maestro knows what the public wants and is one of the few music producers in the country who favors originals over remixes.

Add to this his success as a music director for films and you find out that he composed most of the hits in Pakistan’s reviving film industry. He can sing, he can compose and above all, everyone respects him because he is close to the guru of film music A R Rahman.

Positive: Shiraz has the most high-tech studio in the country where he composed the soundtrack of Punjab Nahi Jaungi, Pakistan’s most successful film, ever!

Negative: Many criticized Shiraz Uppal for introducing star Mehwish Hayat as a Coke Studio singer (she is no doubt an all-rounder performer) and if given the chance, he may introduce a few non-singers through the platform.

2-Noori (Ali Noor and Ali Hamza)

Noori is no strangers to music as they have been around for over 2 decades; they know what the public wants and that’s one of the reasons why they collaborated with Shiraz Uppal as Sur Darvesh in Wajahat Rauf’s Karachi Se Lahore.

It was rumored a few days back that they have been nominated as the next Captain of Coke Studio but that turned out to be a hoax. However, it would not be a bad idea if they do get to run the show as per their taste, which isn’t much different from what the audience needs.

Positive: Ali Noor and Ali Hamza both can sing and compose whereas they have enjoyed a good rapport with all the music composers and singers in the industry.

Negative: Noori doesn’t deviate much from their signature style of music and that might be the only reason why Coke Studio people might be reluctant regarding their promotion from Collaborators to Captains.

3-Xulfi (Zulfiqar Jabbar Khan)

Xulfi has been around in the music world since the 90s and has bagged many awards for his all-round production. He can sing, he can compose and he can make the simplest of songs look amazing.

Currently, he is part of Call and producer/mentor at Nescafe Basement that is easily making a name for itself as something that can give Coke Studio a tough time in the future.

Positive: Everyone in the industry has worked with Xulfi and that’s one of the many reasons why he should be inducted as Coke Studio’s saviour!

Negative: Xulfi isn’t much fond of originals and if given the chance, he will continue the Strings legacy of remixing old songs instead of coming up with new ones.

Mercedes-Benz Pakistan Changes Price-Tag for its Cars

Last month, the Government of Pakistan had issued SRO 1035(1)/2017, which created a confusion in the local automotive market. Making out the context of the SRO was a little confusing for everyone.

While some interpreted it according to their knowledge, it came to our knowledge that the issued SRO was related to foreign car brands operating in Pakistan, including Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Porche and BMW.

BMW, Porche, and Audi have filed a petition in court against the SRO claiming that it is invalid and is illegal. While Audi has a change in price just a short time back, Mercedes-Benz also got a price change.

The following are the Mercedes-Benz models available in Pakistan and their price:

Oil Brands Hit Back at Honda Pakistan for False Accusations!

Here’s the Secret Ingredient that is Taking the Skin Care World by Storm!

The hectic city life, pollution, and global shift in the climatic conditions all lead to the skin becoming prone to discoloration, aging, acne and dark spots. In extreme cases the lengthy exposure to smog eventually leads to skin cancer. This is why women spend millions on their skin care regimes to have healthy and flawless skin.

Lately, activated charcoal has entered the beauty scene and has created ripples. Beauty fanatics are raving about the results, and that’s why activated charcoal has become the Holy Grail for all skin ailments. Needless to say, a little addition of activated charcoal to your skin care regime every day gives impressive results.

How Does Charcoal Work Its Magic?

Once applied to the skin, charcoal cleanses it by pulling out all the impurities, chemicals, and dirt trapped under the surface of the skin which cause problems. By absorbing the dirt and oil that cause white and black heads, it leaves behind radiant skin.

Activated Charcoal is Becoming the Game Changer

Activated charcoal is readily available in a variety of forms in Pakistan. For a flawless looking skin, women all across the country are hunting for such products. Activated charcoal in peel-off mask form can seem too tedious and time consuming, whereas other forms such as face wash are yet to prove as effective.

One form which can conveniently provide results within a limited time period are soaps featuring activated charcoal. These soaps are much easier, faster, and effective as compared to other forms.

For those who are looking for a suitable soap featuring activated charcoal, we would recommend giving Palmolive Naturals Flawless Clean a try:

Toxic Smog Forces Change in School Timings!

The hazardous smog has taken over the bustling city of Lahore. Residents have been finding it extremely difficult to move around during the morning due to the high density of smog across the city.

In an official tweet from the Government of Punjab, it has been announced that schools in Lahore will now open at 9 am instead of the usual school timings of 8 am and will close down at 2.30 pm. This change has been implemented from today onwards.

Government of Punjab Announces Change in School Timings

Schools will close at 12.15 pm on Fridays as per the tweet. It seems that the decision has been made due to health concerns for children. The polluted air is currently covering cities in Punjab and various areas of KPK.

Should schools in Punjab be shut down?

However, across the border, schools in the Indian province of Punjab will remain closed for three days beginning from the 9th November to 11th. The dense fog caused a fatal accident 10 km from Bathinda city involving a tipper truck and 8 school students who were crushed to death due to poor visibility.

Keeping this in mind, and other accidents that have taken place in Lahore, we are yet to see if schools will be shut down in Lahore and other cities in Punjab to avoid major mishaps during the smog.

It was recorded that Smog levels are generally higher during the morning. Therefore, school timings have been changed until the situation improves.

The deadly smog has caused quite a few accidents, traffic and congestion on the motorways closing down various parts. Flights traveling from Lahore and Faisalabad have also been canceled and delayed.

Lahore High Court’s Chief Justice has asked for strict action to be taken to prevent the smog from increasing. He has encouraged tree plantation as Lahore experiences a high amount of deforestation which is the main cause of air pollution. The province has now attained massive and threatening levels of pollution.
