Pak Suzuki to Setup Auto Glass Plant Worth Rs 744 Million

Pak Suzuki is looking forward to establishing an auto glass plant in Pakistan worth Rs 744mn.

The company is to avail the amount from Meezan Bank and set up a manufacturing plant with Techno Auto Glass.

The purpose of the establishment of the plant within the country is to encourage the growth of local businesses and the engineering sector.

The factory will be catering to the needs of rising glass related parts used in passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and have a high demand in local markets.

Tecno Auto Glass is a joint venture between Pak Suzuki and Techno Pack Telecom (Pvt) Limited (TPT) where Pak Suzuki holds 40% of paid-up capital and the rest 60% with TPT and its nominees.

Pak Suzuki Motor Company is investing long-term equity investment of Rs344.4 million by way of purchase of 34,440,000 ordinary shares of Rs10 each for setting up Tecno Auto Glass Limited.

Urdu1 always brings the best Turkish dramas on our television screens. Already, we are in love with Kosem Sultan and Ek Haseena, Ek Deewana. Now a new series titled ‘Mein Ayesha Gul’ is all set to hit our screens and we bet it will become the new sensation in Pakistan’s tinsel town.

The best part of this series seems to be the fresh faces of Turkish celebrities. To be honest we had enough of Beren Saat, Meryem Uzerli, Kivanc Tatlitug, Hazal Kaya and Tuba Büyüküstün. A new cast full of some striking, good-looking stars is all we need to get hooked too!

Plot

As the title suggests, the story will revolve around the highs and lows of a young, chirpy girl called Ayesha Gul! The teasers released by Urdu1 don’t reveal much, but a little bit of google-ing tell us that it is not like every other Turkish serial.

‘Mujhay Jeenay Do’ Drama on Urdu1: Saira Unable to Evade Forceful Marriage!

The third episode of the latest social drama on Urdu1, Mujhay Jeenay Do, hit the TV screens on Monday eve and its plot left us appalled.

The drama, set to capture the social injustice of child marriages and the crime of physical abuse, has dived into the matter after tiptoeing around it in the previous episodes.

In this episode we see, the young Saira (Emaan Sher) being prepared, or rather forced to marry by her dominant brother and father. The fact that she isn’t eligible for marriage according to any law, is completely and blindly ignored by the men who are literally puppeteering the little girl’s life.

The women in the village are vocal about being against this injustice, but their plight is given no heed. Instead, they are silenced by the threat of divorce.

This is another issue in itself & Mujhay Jeenay Do brings this to the screen, highlighting how unfairly the women are silenced, even if they are right.

As the two men are the default caretakers of young Saira, they are hell-bent on using that authority into pushing her into marriage because only they know what’s best for her.

Well, they are also in a constant mode of pushing the idea of marriage on the widowed Naseeb (Gohar Rasheed).

What this drama does is, it humanizes the villains is such a way that you understand their point of views, proving that human’s are not black and white.

The drama unleashes the story of millions of girls that are married off in their childhood. It was a heart-wrenching moment when they showed the innocent Saira sharing a moment with her deceased sister Bushra (Sabeena Syed). She vowed to take care of her sister’s child, foreshadowing that she would have to live that vow under rather unfortunate circumstances.

Jon Snow has a Pakistani Doppelganger!

They say that there are 7 people in this world who have the same face, they are called look-alikes or in other words, doppelgangers! We know that Virat Kohli has one in Pakistan, so does Imran Khan.

However, who would have thought there will be a Kit Harington aka Jon Snow doppelganger in Pakistan too, his name is Ammad Hasan Mir!

Ammad is a fitness trainer at IronBox and also the community manager. He belongs to Lahore and has studied from Lahore School of Economics. He is also a model and is currently coming in a drama serial too.

With longer hair and a built physic, this guy has transformed into the Pakistani Snow and it’s truly unbelievable how striking his resemblance to Kit really is! Check out the pictures to believe it!

We had a chance to talk to Ammad in a quick Q/A session. Here’s what he had to say;

Q) When did your friends notice the similarity between you and Kit Harington?

Ammad: “When I grew my hair long for NCA thesis movie project called ‘Rawaan’. It was shot in Balochistan. On the road runaway movie. Great experience!”

Q) Are you a fan of GoT and Jon Snow in particular?

Ammad: “I am a big GOT and Aegon Targaryen fan. Way before I started to look like him. Or people started noticing that I look like him.”

Q) If you got the opportunity to be a part of GoT as a character in the series, where would you like to be placed?

Ammad: “House Stark all the way! Since the last season, I wouldn’t mind House Targaryen either!”

Q) Whats next for Ammad? Commercials? Movies?

Ammad: “Currently I am working for Geo, for their upcoming drama “Jabeen e ishq”. Recently, I did an advert for Nurpur and signed up for other commercials which are coming up. Acting is my thing and acting for movies gives me that high. Living a character. That’s what makes it so exciting so end game for me is to act in movies definitely.”

Q) Which actress would you like to work with on the silver screen?

Ammad: “Well it’ll be a privilege to share the screen with any of the actresses. All are very talented. But apart from the diplomatic answer, I find Saba Qamar the most talented and I believe I can learn a lot. A personal fav!”

Snapchat Introduces New ‘Sky Filters’ Using Augmented Reality!

Snapchat has introduced new filters called ‘Sky Filters’ which bring dull snaps to life by using augmented reality technology (AR).

The filters add backgrounds like rainbows, starry skies, and even sunsets to the pictures.

The application has gradually started to experiment with AR tech given that you can already use their basic AR features which involve your Bitmoji characters.

Earlier this year, the company introduced their world lenses feature that could let people add rainbow or a cloud to their pictures.

All you have to do is place the camera lens towards the sky and swipe to check the Sky Filters available or if there are any new updates.

The new feature will be available on both iOS and Android.

Hum TV is all set to broadcast its much-hyped drama, Alif Allah Aur Insaan. From the looks of the promos, it has all the makings of an excellent TV serial. And we can’t wait for it to hit the screens!

From an A-list cast, a heart-wrenching OST to what seems to us like a good story line, Alif Allah Aur Insaan has the potential to be one of the biggest TV serials of this season.

Plot

Written by Qaisara Hayat, this MD production is being directed by the acclaimed Aehsun Talish. The main role is played by Mikaal Zulfiqar, who will star as Shahzab Shah.

The drama revolves around his life. Shahzab is a kind man, who is humble and pious. The drama will highlight his spiritual transformation as he goes out into the world to seek love. This drama seems like the perfect classic tale!

Opposite Mikaal Zulfiqar, you will witness the ever enchanting, Kubra Khan. She will play the role of Nazneen, Shahzab’s object of affection we suppose.

Shafqat Amanat Ali is at his best in the OST of Alif, Allah Aur Insaan.

Karachi Declared as the Cheapest City of Pakistan

A report by the State Bank of Pakistan has been released, revealing the most expenisve cities of the nation.

Karachi has emerged as the cheapest city in terms of inflation, amongst the five major cities of Pakistan. The consumer price index (CPI) of Karachi was at 1.7 percent year-on-year in August 2017, as compared to 3.3 percent a year ago.

The other cities included in this comparison are:

  1. Lahore
  2. Islamabad
  3. Peshawar
  4. Quetta

“Among these five cities, the lowest inflation was observed in Karachi at 1.7 percent, while the highest inflation was observed in Lahore at 5.1 percent,” the State Bank of Pakistan said.

Karachi

The food inflation for Karachi was 0.7 percent and non-food was 2.5 percent. The central bank didn’t mention any reason for the reduction in the rate of inflation in Karachi. However, analysts attribute it to a slowdown in the cost of living. The city is the largest trading and financial hub of the country.

Lahore 

Meanwhile, Lahore remained the most expensive city to live in the country, in terms of cost of living. The SBP’s report showed that Lahore witnessed the highest food inflation of four percent and non-food inflation to six percent.

Islamabad

Islamabad is also included in the list but in regards to high inflation. The inflation for Islamabad was five percent.

Peshawar

Joining Islamabad with high inflation, is Peshawar 2.1 percent inflation, in the provincial capital of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

Quetta 

According to The News, Quetta saw a decline in CPI inflation.

Trump Travel Ban Extends to 3 More Countries

President Trump’s infamous travel ban has been under scrutiny by the general public ever since its imposition. The initial list of countries included Iran, Libya, Syria, Yemen, and Somalia.

However, three more countries are now added to the list of Trump’s travel ban and the world surely did not see this coming.

The nations are:

  • North Korea,
  • Venezuela and
  • Chad

The ban has been based on “security or safety threat.”

There were restrictions on the citizens on Sudan but they were lifted soon after. The removal of Sudan from the list was due to a positive review of the country’s information exchange and security cooperation with Washington, senior administration officials told The Washington Post.

Rights group Amnesty International USA condemned the measure:

“It is senseless and cruel to ban whole nationalities of people who are often fleeing the very same violence that the U.S. government wishes to keep out. This must not be normalized.” It said in a statement.

1) North Korea 

In the case of North Korea, officials said it was hard for the United States to validate the identity of someone coming from there and to find out if that person was a threat.

“North Korea, quite bluntly, does not cooperate whatsoever,” one official said.

2) Venezuela

The restrictions on Venezuela focused on Socialist government officials that Trump’s administration blamed for the country’s slide into economic disarray.

“Nationals of Venezuela who are [US] visa holders should be subject to appropriate additional measures to ensure traveler information remains current,” the document said.

In an attempt to apply the ‘America First’ foreign policy, Trump has been working on tightening the US immigration process. And while there are only 8 countries on the list so far, there’s no telling how many more countries will join them.

 Clearly, President Trump believes that the travel ban should be far tougher.

Highly-praised 2-time T20 champion Darren Sammy revealed the real reason behind his visit to Pakistan in an interview with Fazeela Saba. He said that the team had become his second home, a family and that the team had assured him that he will be provided with top-notch security.

However, it was his mother’s advice which actually turned the entire situation around for the cricketer.

“We knew we had a decision to make. You know, like I said, Zalmi team was like a family, Javed (Afridi), Lala – Shahid Afridi and coach (Mohammed) Akram; but to me, my final decision was, when my mom told me to just go out and don’t worry about anything. I will be on my knees praying for you, whatever (happens), God is in charge! That was my assurance. Once my old queen (mom) said she got my back, that was the last thing I needed to hear and that was it.”

Bank Alfalah Bags the Best Bank Award ’17!

The 2nd Pakistan Banking Awards took place on the eve of September 19th, organized by the Institute of Bankers, A.F. Ferguson and Company and Dawn Media Group.

Bank Alfalah received the Best Bank Award for 2017 demonstrating “the most significant contribution to national development and the most effective management of its resources, including its employees, clients, franchise community, and financials”.

This award went to United Bank last year.

A total of six banks were given awards in eight different categories.

1. Best Bank for the Unbanked

Telenor Microfinance Bank was declared the Best Bank for the Unbanked for paying attention to financial inclusion by expanding its outreach through rural and low-income urban penetration and diversification among all segments of account holders.

2. Best Microfinance Bank Award

Telenor Microfinance Bank also received the Best Microfinance Bank Award for its performance in terms of penetration, outreach efficiency and access to low-income communities across Pakistan.

3. Best Bank for Small Business and Agriculture

Habib Bank was declared the Best Bank for Small Business and Agriculture for its performance, diversification, and quality of SME and agriculture lending nationwide.

4. Best Bank for Corporate Finance and Capital Market Development

United Bank was declared the Best Bank for Corporate Finance and Capital Market Development. It excelled in promoting capital market development, deepening secondary markets and providing advisory services to optimise the efficient use of industrial and commercial assets.

5. Best Islamic Bank

Meezan Bank was declared the Best Islamic Bank for expanding its Islamic banking franchise and raising public awareness.

6. Best Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Bank Award

JS Bank received the Best Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Bank Award for its conduct of responsible business.

A number of bankers, including State Bank of Pakistan Governor Tariq Bajwa, participated in the ceremony. Mr Bajwa said that the banking sector plays a vital role in the economic development of any country. He added that the awards will provide an incentive for the banks to improve their performance.

The jury for the awards consisted of former State Bank Governor Salim Raza, senior bankers Azhar Hameed, Shahzad Naqvi, Feroze Rizvi and Zeelaf Munir.
