The Anti-Blue Whale Challenge: A Ray of Hope

The rising online epidemic, that is the ‘Blue Whale Challenge’ has been raising some serious flags across the world in terms of Mental Health.

Victimizing the youth and young adults, feeding off of their weaknesses, depression, and disorders, due to which no one seems to be safe.

Recently, there has been a rise in the causalities of the Blue Whale Challenge in Asia and after hitting India, it has found its way to Pakistan. A few cases have been rumored to have popped up in Peshawar.

https://www.brandsynario.com/blue-whale-challenge-finds-first-victim-in-pakistan-report/

Of course, the rate with which Blue Whale is claiming victims is alarming, hence people all over the globe have introduced ideas to counter the negative challenge. It has inspired people to create positive online games because if there was ever a time when such positivity was needed, this would be it.

Anti-Blue Whale Challenges.

The first anti-Blue Whale Challenge was likely originated in Brazil, called the Pink Whale Challenge.

The idea spread rather quickly, and soon other healthier, even humorous alternatives came up. One such alternative is the Green Whale Challenge.

Another version was introduced by German You-tuber, has also been running their own version of an anti-Blue Whale game, Brown Owl Challenge.

Translation: A small contribution to the #brownowlchallenge for all who are out there alone and can not sleep. You are not alone.

Anti-Blue Whale Challenge in Pakistan.

According to Parhlo, an anti-Blue Whale Challenge has also been introduced in Pakistan.

The application design is similar to that of the original Blue Whale Challenge, but the harmful, suicidal tasks are replaced by much more healthier and friendly tasks.

Some of the tasks mentioned in the article are;

  • Do 10 Pushups
  • Wake up at 6:00 am
  • When you wake up, Don’t move from the bed for 10 minutes
  • Touch your nose using your right thumb.

And some of them are Funny

  • Slice a fresh onion and try not to cry while doing it
  • Eat a donut but don’t lick your fingers/lips afterward
  • Eat 1 BIG tablespoon of pure ketchup (don’t do it if you are allergic-use mustard *half spoon*)

Some of them are to help others

  • Help your parents with a household chore
  • Remember – Helping others without interest is cool
  • Do something special today (Example: Buy food for homeless, help your siblings)
  • And here is the last task (Day 50)

In the end, after the completion of all the tasks, a messages appears on the screen, reading;

“Congratulations you have become a Smart BlueWhale. Remember your life is a precious gift don’t waste it on strange challenges you find on the internet. The world is full of strange people, some of them will try to scare you in order to make you do odd things, if something like this happens to you, inform your parents or adults that you trust. Stay healthy and happy blue whale grand master.”

In a world that is harboring so much negativity, it is refreshing to see that people have taken it upon themselves to be the ray of light, for people who are suffering alone.

Baaghi Drama Urdu1 Episode 8 Review: The Journey from Fauzia to Qandeel Begins!

Episode 8 is the one we were eager to see the most until now in the Baaghi series by Urdu1.

In the last episode, we saw how Fauzia finally sees a window of opportunity open for her for the very first time after her abusive marriage.

After gathering up courage once again, she tries to talk to her husband and tries to convince him to let her work in the city to which he reacts in a very violent manner.

He points out that a woman from a ‘sharif khandan’ cannot work in such places but should instead take care of the household.

However, upon Fauzia’s refusal, he finally says those 3 words he has been threatening her with for some time now, triple talaq.

Soon we see that heart-broken Fauzia makes a decision, one which changes her life, forever. On the other hand, Fauzia’s mother has a small talk with her father and tells him that she is worried about their daughter.

She tells him that she had a nightmare in which their little girl was crying, hurt and was trying to reach out to her asking for her forgiveness. Not knowing about the ruckus between the couple, the parents are still under the misconception that their darling is at her home.

Coming back to Fauzia, by now we see her traveling to the city to meet Gauhar, the man who called her from the ad agency. She arrives at the office to meet him and tries to impress him. Upon asking her about her life, she tells him that she is married and has a son, but both spouses are not together.

Because she left overnight an had no roof, he offers her the company guesthouse, and then it all begins. Fauzia meets a beautician, gets a new haircut, a makeover, and a wardrobe transformation, and within a few seconds, we see the ‘gaun ki ghori’ transform into the ‘shehr ki chori’.

While Fauzia is finally starting to live her dream, her father goes to her in-laws and demands them to spawn his girl in front of him.

However, Abid tells him that he has no idea where she is and that she had left him and their child and ran away from home, probably with someone. Then her father warns him that he will approach Chaudry Sahab and then Abid will have no choice but to look for his wife.

Her mother calls her and tries to ask her about her location, but Fauzia remains skeptical and tells her mother that she will let them know where she is and what she is doing when the time is right and cuts the call.

For now, Fauzia’s life is at a happy-go-lucky stage in life, we have yet to see how things go on from here. Will she continue to make her debut without any hurdles, or will her life take another interesting turn?

Pakistan Dairy Association Clarifies: ‘Tea Whiteners Are Not Harmful’

Recent accusations on companies making tea whiteners have now been addressed and clarified by the Pakistan Dairy Association (PDA). Some representatives met with Senator Mian Muhammad Ateeq Shaikh, member Senate Standing Committee on Science & Technology and explained that tea whiteners are free of any chemicals or harmful substances.

PDA wanted to clarify the misconceptions that exist and have been promoted about packaged dairy over the last one year. The Senate Standing Committee for Science and Technology met last week and raised concerns about manufacturing and selling of sub standard tea whiteners.

The PDA representatives clarified that tea whiteners, also known as creamers are globally approved products that are composed of Milk Solids Non-Fats, Vegetable Fats, internationally approved & permissible food additives – Hence tea whiteners are free of any chemicals or harmful substances and completely safe for tea and coffee making.

They said that tea whiteners are manufactured and sold by largely responsible corporates who not only ensure the highest quality standards in manufacturing but who also work to uplift the livelihoods of the farmers and rural communities.

Vegetable fats in tea whiteners have many benefits like no cholesterol, better consistency, better mouth-feel, good product stability, good taste and a more economical cup of tea.

On tea whiteners, the team confirmed that there are no harmful chemicals ingredients and consumers should use tea whiteners in their tea or coffee confidently. The team invited Mian Ateeq, and other members of the Senate Standing Committee on Science and Technology to visit their manufacturing facilities to gain complete confidence in the safety of the process.

PDA recommended that in the next standing committee meeting, the members should get an independent viewpoint by inviting a senior member of Pakistan Society of Food Scientist and Technologists.

Mian Ateeq spoke about the accusations made on tea whiteners,

“I have had detailed discussions with members of the PDA, and through explanation of the recipe, processing and composition of tea whiteners accompanied with scientific evidence, they have clarified that the tea whiteners are perfectly safe  and suitable for all ages of tea consumers.”

He further added,

“I have also assured PDA that we will give them the opportunity to present their facts in the next senate committee meeting for issuing a clarification statement”

5 Ways To Make Sure Your Room Looks Straight Out Of A Catalogue!

After a really tedious day of work or at home while looking after the family, there is nothing better than the feeling you get when you kick off your shoes and jump on your bed, laying down peacefully heaving a sigh of relief!

However, a messy room with piles of clothes scattered about is not the perfect abode that a person looks for at such a time. Have you ever wondered why people are so fascinated with hotel rooms? It is the sense of peace, calm and relaxation that these rooms hold that bedrooms at home often lack.

You’re in luck, we’ve got 5 designer secrets that will definitely make your room look straight out of a home styling catalogue:

1. Declutter, Remove Extra Furniture

It’s essential to create a personal space that makes you feel comfortable and helps you relax at your fullest. A room that is filled with furniture and accessories at every corner will make it look disorganized. Do you really need the extra chair that you use for dumping those extra clothes? Make a slight change giving your room a spacious feeling.

2. Create a Focal Point in Your Room

The first thing people see while walking in a room is the bed, a clean, tidy and a well-made bed will improve how the overall room looks. A messy bed will create a negative vibe of the room even if it is decorated to par. Make the bed the focal point, it should be attractive enough to fixate the onlooker’s gaze.

Watch the video below for some easy tips and tricks on how to make your bed in a designer way!

3. Layer Up, Accessorize and Lie Back

The easiest tip to accentuate the room is to layer up, this could be done using beautiful plush rugs on the floor or different sized cushions for the bed. Not only do extra pillows make your bed look more inviting but they add the finishing touches to the room. You could use European styled pillows, oddly shaped pillows, rectangular or oval pillows to fill your bed.

4. Add Colour to Your Room

Gone are the days of color coordinating everything from the walls, rugs, furniture to the bed covers and curtains. Bringing in a contrasting pop of color here and there will give the room an energetic vibe. If your room is decorated in cool tones, bringing in a warm tone will give life to the room.

5. Window Dress to Impress

Window dressing is not only used to block the sunlight in the room but the curtains used thoughtfully would create an element of interest. Light colored curtains could be used to make the room look more spacious, while darker ones would give an illusion of elegance. Either way, how your window is dressed has a great impact on the overall look.

Pakistan’s automotive industry has experienced a boom in the overall sales in units. This increase has been recorded on a year on year basis.

Honda Atlas has announced the highest growth achieved in sales units but has unfortunately still failed to overtake the leaders in the automotive industry in Pakistan.

The sales of locally assembled vehicles including jeeps and light commercial vehicles have now increased to 22,095 units in August 2017 as per the data released by the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association. This was a mighty jump of 25% from last year’s sale units of 17,653 that were recorded in August 2017.

The increase has been due to the various new models being introduced by the company which includes facelifts and other models.

Sales of Honda Atlas outperformed peers, posting 47% year-on-year growth with 4,666 units. The successful introduction of a facelift for its Civic brand and Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) variant BR-V propelled the sales.

Other Automobile brands have increased by the following:

  1. Pak Suzuki Motors – 32% year on year increase.

Wagon R – 75% increase yearly
Cultus – 69% increase yearly
Suzuki Mehran also jumped 28% year-on-year, supporting the company’s overall sales growth.

2. Indus Motors.

Toyota Fortuner whose sales showed a stellar growth of 284% year-on-year

3. Al Gazi.
Al Gazi has been the top performer in this segment with 26% growth in sales.

Reports also show that the rise in unit sales is due to the increase in the middle-class economy bracket.

Apple: Putting the ‘X’ in eXpensive!

Unless you’re living under a rock, you probably have been bombarded with the news of the new iPhones that were launched yesterday at Apples Keynote. While the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X, left people in awe.

There were some people that took to twitter to share their real feelings and we can’t help but ROFL.

Clearly, some shots were fired.

She’s definitely got a point!

WHY can we not have chargers that survive though? I don’t get it.

Tim Cook announces, “The new iPhone X is starting from $999.00 to $1,149.00” and people start calculating which body part they could potentially sell.

Turns out the X does not represent the numeric 10 after all.

Some people obviously took a dig at Apple for just $1000.

So that’s what the homeless iPhone means.

Here are some substitutes which seem worthy of your hard earned money.

It’s all about PRIORITIES, my friend.

And they have really set their priorities straight.

It’s the only way we can afford it, to be honest.

The feature that is said to be revolutionary for the iPhone is FaceID, and people are taking in that news at their own pace in their own ways.

Okay, honestly? We saw this coming.

He is asking the right questions.

And how exactly do I protect my phone from my twin?!

We can smell the conspiracy in the air.

No one can love you this much. Not even your mother.

WhatsApp to Roll Out ‘Unsend’ Feature for Messages!

Ever sent a risky text and wished you could take it back? Or accidentally send the screenshot to the same person you were supposed to roast with your friends?

Well, your prayers have been answered. WhatsApp is finally working on rolling out an ‘unsend’ feature for its user.

“The server finally works and it successfully recalls the message. It will be remotely enabled later and seen that WhatsApp ‘enabled’ their servers for the Delete for Everyone feature, it may really be enabled soon,” WABetaInfo is a fan site that tests new WhatsApp features early, tweeted.

According to The Independent, the feature will enable the users to recall or unsent texts, images, videos, GIFs, documents, quoted messages and even status replies within a five-minute window only.

“WhatsApp has added in beta the possibility to edit messages that you already sent. It is actually disabled by default and it’s under development”. WeBetaInfo tweeted earlier.

However, the messages that have been read or have exceeded the 5-minute window after being sent cannot be recalled or edited through this feature. Also, The users will be able to edit only recent messages and not the old ones.

The feature will be available for both Android and iOS. What is particularly nifty about this feature is that, according to screenshots obtained by WABetaInfo, recalled texts will also disappear from the Notification Center – both on Android and iOS gadgets.

UNESCO recognizes TCF’s Adult Literacy Programme ‘Aagahi’ through the Confucius Prize for Literacy

The Citizens Foundation (TCF) has been awarded the prestigious UNESCO Confucius Prize for Literacy, 2017 for their Adult Literacy Programme, Aagahi.

In line with this year’s theme, Aagahi which literally means ‘awareness’ is creating meaningful interventions to impart basic reading and writing skills to older women and young girls who have never been to school before.

TCF is the only organization from Pakistan to win this award, the other winners are AdulTICoProgram from Columbia and FunDza from South Africa.

The UNESCO Confucius Prize for Literacy was established in 2005 with the support of the Government of the People’s Republic of China. It gives special consideration to literacy amongst adults in rural areas and out-of-school youth, particularly girls and women.

Ms. Vibeke Jensen, Director/ Representative of UNESCO in Pakistan, stated, “The low literacy rate is a major problem in Pakistan, and I highly appreciate this initiative of TCF to educate women through their literacy program, Aagahi.”

“To be truly empowering, new technologies must stand on two pillars,” said UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova as she opened the International Conference on International Literacy Day at Paris Headquarters, which focuses this year on Literacy in a digital world.”

“First, they must be inclusive, bridging gaps, not deepening them. Second, they must be underpinned by respect for human rights and dignity. All this gives rise to new questions about the meaning of literacy today.”

This year’s theme of UNESCO Confucius Prize for Literacy was ‘Literacy in a Digital World’ and TCF’s Aagahi was recognized on the basis of its effectiveness and the successful use of technology and digital tools for monitoring and evaluation of the programme.

The Prize was presented at an official ceremony at UNESCO’s Headquarters in Paris on International Literacy Day at 8th September, 2017. Mr. Ateed Riaz, Co-Founder and Chairman of TCF, received the award on behalf of the organization in the presence of Amna Khalid, Executive Advisor of TCF for Community Development Programs.

“TCF’s Aagahi now in its 12th year has reached out to 59,000+ women making them well versed in Urdu reading, writing and basic numeracy skill. It has made a massive positive impact on everyday lives of these women, from being able to read bus numbers at a busy bus stop, to calculating the change they are owed at the end of a shopping transaction, to writing a letter to their loved ones and most importantly, supporting their children in education. This gift of literacy has dramatically transformed their lives,” said Mr. Ateed Riaz.

“To receive this UNESCO award is encouraging and humbling at the same time, Aagahi will continue to provide the educational opportunities to those who never had the chance to go to school before. The result has been phenomenal and will help these women become more aware and empowered.” He added.
