Google Introduces New Feature for Detection of Depression

Google has introduced a new feature in the United States, which is designed as a questionnaire to test the depression levels of people who search for the terms “depression” and “clinical depression”.

To check if they are clinically depressed, the users who search for information about depression will be shown a box at the top of their screens.

This box has a clinically validated test, called PHQ-9, which asks about appetite, energy and concentration levels.

It has been found in a study that the percentage of younger teens and children hospitalized in the US for suicidal actions and thoughts has doubled in over a decade.

Roughly 1 in 5 Americans are affected by clinical depression at some point in their lives. However, the individuals take an average of 6-8 years to seek professional help.

The tech firm said that they won’t store the responses as the information provided would be “sensitive and private”

This initiative was developed in a partnership between Google and the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).

“We hope that by making this information available on Google, more people will become aware of depression and seek treatment to recover and improve their quality of life,” -Mary Giliberti, CEO of National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).

“The results of the PHQ-9 can help you have a more informed conversation with your doctor,” wrote Giliberti.

We hope this helps the young generation to conquer this rise of this mental illness by detecting it at the right time. Always keep in mind that asking for help is always alright, no need to feel out of place or shy.

However, a former Pakistani cricketer, a legend has slammed PCB!

“I think that it is a very good World XI team is coming. However, the last time when Zimbabwe came to play, a promise was made to the residents that the next match will be hosted in Karachi. Some of the most renowned cricketers are from Karachi, there is no problem here, amongst other cities, Karachi is the most peaceful as of now.”

Javed Miandad lashed out in anger saying that if international cricket can come back to Lahore after what happened to the Sri Lankan team, then why is Karachi is being ignored. He went on saying that others cities have also been a victim of this neglection.

‘Baaghi’ Drama on Urdu1: Fauzia’s Decision to Marry Abid was Wrong!

It is no news that Baaghi drama, has become an ultimate rating magnet. It has impressed not only women in Pakistan but has also sought interest amongst men in the nation. Everybody is curious about to know more about the late Qandeel Baloch and get more information of how her life really was.

In yesterday’s episode, Fouzia finally got what she wanted. She happily got married to Abid.

Like a typical Pakistani household, her life became a victim of the Saas Bahu drama. She tried her best to adjust to her in laws. Being a typical house wife, she cooked, clean and did everything that was required and expected of her.

But the story takes a turn as we saw her dreams slowly going down the drain. Being a male chauvinist, Abid started imposing and forcing her to be something she’s not. It is apparent that he lied to Fauzia about the freedom, she will have after marriage!

But now that she has tied the knot with Abid, she’s still a caged bird who wants to open her wings and fly away.

As expected, Abid has started wavering away from Fouzia and has found an interest in someone else.

Looks like, Fouzia’s decision to marry Abid was wrong?

It’s a saying that the thing you chase, goes further away from you and the thing you run away from chases you. That saying is probably true in Fouzia’s case.

This story does not only portray the life of Qandeel Baloch but also shows some glimpses of what career oriented, bold and open minded girls have to go through in a male dominating, un-educated society. Being educated and open minded in a male dominated society is an abomination and is not tolerated at all.

Let’s hope this chauvinism changes for good and Pakistan becomes a better place to live.

Chapter 2 by Khaadi Opens to Rapturous Reviews

Talk to the regular consumer and on the whole, they will tell you they’re overwhelmed by the plethora of color, mixed patterns, many splendor garments and a repetition of the same. Moving far away from just this clutter, Khaadi introduced Chapter 2 on Thursday at Dolmen Mall, Clifton.

The new brand is all about going back to the iconic brands’ handloom roots. When you step in you see malleable and draped garments, stark in their inherent simplicity, straight lines and loose weaves with a nod to the main hot weather; a clutch of racks displaying clothes that celebrate the wearer by giving her the freedom to pair separated as desired.

Chapter 2 bridges two distinct worlds. The world of fashion as we knew it – private, individualistic and minimal – with the consumerism that’s de rigueur for a successful fashion label today. The store opened its doors to the public in an exclusive showcase which was designed to wow the senses. Rack after rack of the indigenous craft was transformed into urban fashion.

It was the day a new way of dressing was introduced to the gawping public; the fabric very traditional in essence paired with cuts that would make a wearer feel feminine and confident. Entering the store is in itself a journey of discovery, from the visually stunning digital wall projecting images that define the unique Chapter 2 ethos to the geometrical display stands, it is the desire for the linear and the monochromatic that will draw in the consumer.

Comprising of pure hand-woven and hand-crafted textiles; this brand is steeped in a minimalistic approach towards design. Chapter 2 promises to be a refreshing visual treat. Imagine a contemporary take on traditional hand woven fabrics; preserving the art of indigenous hand weaving skill for three generations through high contrast progression of colour and composition. Constant and stringent quality control, working with trusted craftsmen generation after generation, preserving the age old crafts through the years, now results in the wondrous contemporary line called Chapter 2.

The fabulous duo behind Khaadi and Chapter 2, Saira and Shamoon Sultan’s vision of a range of organic clothing made up entirely of handloom cotton and silk was appreciated by selected fashion media, friends and colleagues of the designers and fashionistas who socialized with each other, exclaimed over the diverse apparel and mingled over petit fours and mint lemonades.

Brandsynario had an exclusive interview with Shamoon at the launch event!

“I started out with pure hand-loomed fabric when I opened the first Khaadi store back in ’99 but then slowly it faded out, replaced by other product lines. With this new store, we’re reverting to our first passion, stocking hand-loomed apparel and accessories with only slight embroideries or block-prints,” said Shamoon Sultan, CEO of Khaadi.

The collection aims to inspire personal confidence by introducing clean, straight and androgynous silhouettes to make the Chapter 2 woman feel comfortable in her own skin. The brand is a reflection of artistic expression that transcends age. In a revival of their original fashion ethos, Chapter 2 by Khaadi brings to the new store silhouettes that are wearable and contemporary. The freshness of simplicity is remarkable as it evokes a persona which does not associate itself in moving with the

The freshness of simplicity is remarkable as it evokes a persona which does not associate itself in moving with the herd, but allows the wearer the luxury of creating an individual look of their own. Chapter 2 by Khaadi is essentially for people who have the sensibility and the understanding of the complexity in a modest design and are individuals with distinctive ways of self-expression.

Chapter 2 by Khaadi is all about mainline products consisting of Women’s Apparel, including but not exclusive to accessories, bags, and shoes. Lifestyle products like home textiles, ceramics, metalware, and stationery items will follow, allowing the buyer a complete lifestyle experience.

Arsenic Found in Pakistan’s Water Supply: WHO Report

Arsenic has been discovered in Pakistan’s water supply. Mixed with water and being consumed by humans, it has dangerous effects on the human body.

Especially when Arsenic of such high concentration is present in drinking water!

Public Council for Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) published a study which showed that only 72% of water schemes in Pakistan are functional. Out of those functional water schemes around 84% of the supplied water is unfit for consumption.

The team of experts collected 1200 samples (3-70-meter-deep wells) from all over Pakistan and it revealed shocking results.

Contaminated water is found in almost all parts of the country. Around 60 million people use five times higher arsenic water (50 micrograms per liter) than the ones in WHO territory.

Around 200 micrograms of arsenic content were found along river Indus. However, as per WHO, the recommended limit for Arsenic is 10 micrograms per liters of water.

A public health engineer at WHO, Richard Johnston, says, “It’s a reminder that arsenic remains a serious public health threat in drinking water”.

Charles Harvey, a hydrogeologist at MIT says, “People should be aware that water in their well has a high amount of arsenic”.

A recent study carried out by students of (NUST) National University of Sciences and Technology showed overall Water Quality Index of Faisalabad district.

The map showed that most of Faisalabad is suffering from very poor quality of water, which is bad for the health of its citizens.

Let’s hope Pakistan gets out of this situation as soon as possible and live a healthy and better life.

Smelly Pakola Cases Reported by Pakistanis!

Pakola, the green colored fizzy drink can easily be called the national drink of Pakistan. It is hardly possible to find anyone who is not a fan of the sweet ice cream soda.

However, recently there have been reports of the cold drink being different in taste and smell. People have also taken to Facebook and Twitter to share their concerns. It looks like the quality has suffered a great deal, the pungent smell of the Pakola bottles have led consumers to lodge complaints.

A post on Facebook by Kinza Inam explained how she had bought two bottles of Pakola which smelled horribly wrong. She then had to throw both bottles down the train as they were not fit for consumption.

Looks like she was not the only one that had received the weird smelling drink!

The drink is available at all leading supermarkets. It has also been discovered that Pakola cans are of top quality while the plastic bottles seem to be the problem.

It is also possible that a counterfeit product is being manufactured and sold in the market in order to defame the brand. The company has not released any official statement regarding the ongoing crisis.

Some believed quick action needs to be taken!

Hareem Farooq Just Shut DownTrolls & We’re Like, You Go Girl!

Did you know Pakistanis have the biggest noses in the world? They always manage to find their way poking in someone else’s business. Where it clearly does not belong. The latest episode of nosy Pakistanis features a “scandalous” Instagram post by Hareem Farooq.

The picture under discussion is one where Hareem is chummily standing next to her super close friend, Osman Khalid Butt, enjoying the 14th August, Azaadi feels.

And instantly, Instagram patrol united to remind her of her ‘aakhirat’. More than half the comments on the post were downright horrendous and beyond rude.

“Hahaha but why mention others like katrina kareena are you jealous kay loag un ko dekhtay hain ap ko nahi? Attention mil gai hai apko behen ayashii karain aj kal boht trend hai insta py apnay hak aur azadi ki baat kar kay attention lainay ka 😂 apko mubarak ho”

“Lann tan krna to buhat ghalat ha But Ap bhi jo kr rahi ha Woh bhi theak nahi ha”

“Begharat ho jo defend kr rahi ho jo marzi kro tm log but atleast public na kro”

“Kal tum apni naked photo upload karna to phir hum tmhain hell ka certificate dain gy, kanjar aurat, aik to ghalat kaam upar sy us ko defend karna. Wtf you bloody celebrities “

Then there were people who came to Hareem’s defense and exposed the double standards that our society is plagued with.

“I don’t understand why everyone is going after Hareem when Osman is doing the same pose as her lol. Double standards?”

“It is her right. Tumhen kyun aag lagi pari hay?”

“But idk what is wrong with this pic that people criticing or blaming it’s just pose pic nothing more but check the mentality of bullshit people who saying bla bla and abusing”

Hareem, without singling anyone out, replied back:

Yo go girl!

It is about time we tell these haters to stop moral policing once and for all!

Sarahah App has Pakistanis Going Crazy After it

The latest trend that seems to have taken the online world by storm is an app called ‘Saharah’ and the Internet is both, confused and amused.

‘Sarahah’ literally means honesty in Arabic, and there is no one in the world itching, to be honest… scratch that, anonymously honest, more than Pakistanis. Which is why it’s understandable that an app like Sarahah caught attention in Pakistan.

It allows you to be ruthlessly honest, or creepy while protecting your identity. Although it was launched for the purpose of constructive criticism, which is a fact, people are conveniently ignoring.

Anyway, more and more Pakistanis are creating accounts and succumbing to curiosity or to the hope that someone will confess their undying love for them, we’ll never know.
Some people obviously took it up as their moral duty to be creepy AF.

Creep case 1

Creep case 2

Creep case 3

While the concept behind Saharah is not new in the digital age, apps like Whisper and AskFM have existed for some time now

Let’s see if it sticks around for a longer time.

This Laziza Kheer Mix TVC is a Total Copy of an Indian Ad!

Ever heard the phrase imitation is the best form of flattery? Seems like there are some Pakistani brands that are too impressed with advertising campaigns and commercials from across the border.

There has recently been a buzz about a TVC by popular Laziza Foods on their Laziza Kheer Mix that has been discovered to be totally inspired by a commercial for an Indian cooking oil brand, Lotus Oil, that was released back in 2012.

The two ads are extremely similar and it is definitely a ‘copy’ and ‘paste’ job. The characters, storyboard, dialogues and everything else are exactly the same. What is more, the characters in both commercials have acted in the same manner as well. One could actually say that this ad was a work of plagiarism.

The Opening shot of Both Ads.

Above – Laziza, Below – Lotus Oil (India)

Laziza foods are one of those companies that do not advertise heavily as this ad came up after the longest time from the brand. It is sad to see the brand going ahead with such a level of plagiarism.

Can you spot the difference?

Notice the jewelry and color of clothes to be the exact same too!

The compilation of both ads by a page on Facebook has gone viral on the internet! Watch  the video below:

Here’s what marketing enthusiasts on the facebook group Khalid Alvi Marketing Next have to say about it:

However, this comment has won the internet for the day! We really think the agency deserves an award for such pulling off such detailed plagiarism.

Looks like we weren’t the only ones who noticed every shot was the same!
