The whole of Pakistan was waiting for the first ever superhero movie, Project Ghazi! With a trio of top actors, promotions in full swing, and all the hype weaved around the massive flick, it was expected to create a splash at the box-office!

But who would have known that Project Ghazi’s release will get postponed just a day before its release!

Surprising right? We wonder if that has ever happened before in history!

Last evening, Project Ghazi’s premiere became a night of horror for all as huge technical difficulties were discovered in the film during the screening, making it an unbearable watch.

Of course, Humayun Saeed, Shehryar Munawar, and Syra Shahroz now are bound to be crestfallen over the chaos that has happened!

But who knew, Syra’s own husband will take advantage of the sad situation to promote his own upcoming movie Chain Aye Na.

The car craze is on the rise in Pakistan. We have seen a rapid growth in the total sales and the total units sold in 2016-17.

In this article we will rank the popularity of the latest cars and why they were able to maintain a significant hold in the market.

1. Suzuki Wagon-R

The car has experienced an increase in sales in 2016-17 since the time of its launch. The Suzuki Wagon R comes in 1000CC, 1200CC and 1300CC.

It gives a mileage of 16km/litre and a pleasant drive. Though it’s been a while since the launch of this beauty, it is still on a control of 70K access to its official price.

2. Suzuki Swift

Suzuki Swift has experienced an increase in sales and the total quantity sold. It sold more units than Mehran and Cultus but less than Corolla and City.

It is a spacious 1300CC car with a fine shape. Swift is the biggest competitor of Toyota Vitz (Yaris) and has taken over its market in Pakistan.

3. Honda Civic & City

Honda Civic since its launch has created a huge hype due to its new features, the 1.5 Turbo and the 1.8 version were welcomed warmly.

Though these cars were only for the elite class and were heavily priced at Rs 32 lacs the overall sales increased by almost 50% which is no surprise because of the brand reputation that Civic has in Pakistan.

Honda City was sold less compared to civic but there was an increase in the units sold compared to the previous year models.

Suzuki Mehran is the 2^nd most popular car in Pakistan. Though its sales were more than Civic and City combined they grew only by 2% from the previous years.

Rat Discovered in One of Karachi’s Leading Bakery!

A cringe-worthy video of a rat discovered in one of Karachi’s famous bakery is making rounds on social media. And of course, it is a stomach-churning sight!

The viral clip has sparked an outrage on the internet as the eatery is now under fire. Shockingly, it is none other than the well-known United King Bakery where the incident occurred.

A customer at the Clifton branch spotted the rodent roaming around on one of the food shelves. The rat was caught on camera, sitting on tray freshly-baked goods.

Warning: This video is advisable for the faint-hearted!

The video has been watched over a million times since it was uploaded to social media and people appear absolutely disgusted.

Following the backlash, United King apparently has apologized for the whole fiasco and has issued a statement regarding the whole episode.

I am the Marketing Manager at United King. Our Team has discarded all the products, the area is being fumigated and is currently quarantined – Marketing Manager Omer Naveed Qureyshi.

Nevertheless, social media is appalled with the video and questioning why a live rat was roaming around in the first place in one of the most popular bakeries in the city.

United King should take notice that rats are extremely hazardous to health as they can cause Leptospirosis – a disease that may cause kidney damage, meningitis, liver failure, lungs to bleed and even death.

In times when food inspection is on the rise all over Pakistan, eateries should remain on alert, being extra cautious about hygiene and quality of food.

A recent report unveiled an estimated amount of earnings for cricketers, however, the report also comes as a shock as you will be surprised to see the margin of difference in between the earnings of Pakistan cricket team and the Indian cricket team.

Pakistan Cricket Team

Before we give you the numbers, you need to know which cricketer falls under what category;

Category A: Sarfraz Ahmed, Azhar Ali, Shoaib Malik, Yasir Shah, Mohammad Hafeez and Mohammad Amir.

Category B: Babar Azam, Imad Wasim, Asad Shafiq and Hasan Ali.

Category C: Wahab Riaz, Rahat Ali, Haris Sohail, Sami Aslam, Shan Masood, Sohail Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Junaid Khan, Ahmed Shehzad, Mohammad Abbas and Shadab Khan.

Category D: Mohammad Nawaz, Asif Zakir, Usman Salahuddin, Aamer Yamin, Usman Shinwari, Fahim Ashraf, Rumman Raees, Imam-ul-Haq, Bilal Asif, Mir Hamza, Umar Amin, Mohammad Hassan, Mohammad Asghar and Mohammad Irfan.

Category ‘A’ has the senior players with more experience whereas category ‘D’ has those players who are a new addition and have recently joined the game.

According to the source, As per the 2017-2018 contracts, a salary hike of 10% is given to all the players of A, B, C & D grade. So as per the new contract, salary of Pakistani cricketers become Rs 6,50,000 per month i.e 78 lakhs per annum for Grade A players.

Category A: PKR 650,000 = INR 4,00,000 (Approx per month)

Category B: PKR 450,000 = INR 2,76,000 (Approx per month)

Category C: PKR 260,000 = INR 1,60,000 (Approx per month)

There are various Pakistani artists who have shot to fame after making their debuts in Bollywood. Mahira Khan, Ali Zafar, Atif Aslam and Fawad Khan who has worked on not one but 3 B-town movies. These stars have garnered attention from across the globe and are loved by all!

However, a Pakistani celebrity and actor, Fahad Mustafa believes, he has achieved the ultimate ‘star status’ without appearing in any Bollywood film.

In a recent interview with Dawn Images, Fahad said,

“I’m the only Pakistani actor to become this popular without proving myself in India”

Well, this didn’t go well with veteran actor, Shaan Shahid and he responded in detail to the Jeeto Pakistan host.

According to an online media outlet, ‘Irfanistan’, the Arth actor stated:

“You are doing good work Fahad keep your head down and focus on your work and let the people say what you are saying achievements become old very soon work hard as you are only two films old.”

The Yalghaar star went on to mention the various Pakistani artists who are true patriots and have chosen to remain working for Lollywood.

“And yes do respect others sacrifices also before you praise yours. A lot of good actors never went to India, Waheed Murad Sb, Shahid Sb, Rahat Kazmi, Usman Peerzada, Umar Shareef, Faisal Rehman, Mohib Mirza, Hamza ali Abbasi, Bilal Ashraf, Faisal Qureshi, Nouman Ejaz, Danish taimoor.”

K-Electric Plans 900MW Project

K-Electric unveils plan for the development of a 900 MW power project that will significantly increase generation capacity and play a critical role in further supporting the energy needs of Karachi.

The 900 MW Bin Qasim Power Station III will be built at K-Electric’s Bin Qasim site at an estimated cost of US$ 1 billion and includes simultaneous upgrades to associated transmission infrastructure. The plant will be dual fired with primary fuel expected to be RLNG (Re-gasified Liquid Natural Gas). Once completed, it will represent one of the largest private sector investments of its kind in the country’s power sector.

According to K-Electric CEO Tayyab Tareen, “The 900 MW BQPS-III is a big investment for K-Electric but our conviction is that this is essential in meeting Karachi’s immediate energy demands. We aim to commission the project in the fastest possible time and are confident that with the right facilitation from all quarters, power from the plant may be added to our supply as soon as summer of 2018.”

Waqar Siddique, Chairman K-Electric and Managing Partner The Abraaj Group, said “An investment of the size and magnitude of BQPS-III once again reinforces Abraaj’s commitment to improving the lives of K-Electric’s customers. We believe the company is ideally poised to continue its investment in generation, transmission and distribution projects within an investment friendly environment. Shanghai Electric Power (SEP), as a potential incoming investor, have also expressed complete confidence in this project and fully endorses K-Electric’s vision for Karachi’s transformation. This 900 MW project marks the beginning of a multi-billion dollar investment plan which is set to accelerate Karachi’s economic potential.”

Mr. Wang Yundan, Chairman Shanghai Electric Power (SEP) stated, “Shanghai Electric Power issued a fresh public announcement of our intention to acquire up to 66.4% shares of K-Electric. While the transaction is yet to be completed, we are actively following K-Electric’s plans which have been comprehensively outlined in their Multi Year Tariff review petition. This is indeed an exciting milestone and we fully endorse their vision for Karachi. The investment for the 900 MW plant and associated transmission upgrades is in addition to over US$ 1.4 billion which has already been invested since 2009 by K-Electric. As a result of these investments, K-Electric has substantially improved services for Karachi’s consumers and businesses. Amongst other initiatives, the company added 1,057 MW of generation, reduced transformer trips by 58% and reduced line losses from 36% to 22%. These improvements have enabled the company to make 61% of Karachi load-shed free (from 23% in 2009), including all industrial customers, and reduce the duration and frequency of outages by 45% and 41% respectively (from 2011). K-Electric additionally created 29 Integrated Business Centers (“IBCs”) to improve and enhance customer engagement.

Adding new generation capabilities and strengthening its transmission and distribution network are currently K-Electric’s highest priorities.

The power utility is also taking major steps towards enhancing transformation capacity and improving the reliability of power supply to its customers. The development work of TP-1000 (Transmission Enhancement Plan), a US$ 450 million project, is progressing on a fast track.

KE has further intensified its overall drive against power theft and illegal abstraction. Replacement of old wires with kunda-resistant Aerial Bundled Cables (ABC), which is an innovative concept for power distribution guaranteeing both safety and higher system efficiencies, as part of the vision to further enhance the reliability of power supply across its network.

The power utility remains fully committed to better serve the people of Karachi and to ensure the growth of economy of Karachi and Pakistan.

NIB Bank’s Merger With & into MCB Bank Comes into Effect!

NIB Bank Ltd (NIB)’s merger with and into MCB Bank Ltd (MCB) has come into effect from close of business 7th July 2017. All properties, assets, liabilities, rights and obligations of NIB now stand amalgamated and vest permanently in MCB.

For now, no changes will be made to the banking services of former NIB customers who will be able to conduct their banking transactions as usual.

Once the full integration of both banks is complete, the merger will provide additional synergies, banking services and added convenience to customers of both Banks. Former NIB customers will gain direct access to MCB’s extensive network of branches and ATMs alongside enhanced portfolio of products and services. Additionally, they will also gain access to banking services in several new geographical segments.

This merger has taken place under a share swap arrangement in accordance with the Scheme of Amalgamation as approved by State Bank of Pakistan on June 13, 2017, without involving any foreign exchange transaction.

MCB Bank already enjoys the confidence of foreign investors including Malaysia based Maybank, and with this strategic merger, MCB Bank is honoured to welcome Fullerton Financial Holdings (International) of Singapore as another significant international shareholder of the Bank.

Gustakh Ishq Drama on Urdu1: An Impressive Start to an Intriguing Story

The first episode of a new show holds immense importance. It can either make or break the show. It must grab the attention of viewers in order to make them fall in love with the plot.

The pilot is usually spent in knowing about characters, the area they live in and the challenges they are being faced. The first episode of Gustakh Ishq on Urdu1 successfully nailed this formula yesterday.

The drama stars the much-handsome Zahid Khan, alongside the rising actresses Noor Khan and Iqra Aziz. It is penned by Mustafa Ayub and directed by Furqan T Siddiqui.

Plot

The first scene opens with two girls going to a mazaar. One of them is visibly uninterested and barely manages to stifle her irritation. The other one, Najaf, played by Iqra Aziz, however, wants to visit the place. It is apparent that Najaf is confused by the twists and turns of her life. Apparently, she thinks that her fate is, in simpler words, cursed. This is what she discusses with the peer.

The peer tells her that it is just a phase. And that such challenges and difficulties must not trample with a person’s fate. The character’s trait that we get to know through the conversation is that the girl is nice, helpful and caring. But she doesn’t get rewards for her goodness. The notion that good things deserve to have a fortunate ending is untrue for the young girl who lost her birth mother too soon. Her father, too, recently got a job offer in a foreign country. We’d later come to know that this has opened new problems for Najaf since her stepmother doesn’t want to take Najaf to her brother’s house. The peer, however, assures her that better times are ahead.

Our heroine also has a lot of enemies who are jealous of her stellar academic record. In fact, her so-called friends also plot against her. A group of her friends asked her to have a meeting with the owner of the college, Sikander played by Zahid Ahmed and ask him to reconsider his plan for establishing a factory next to a college building. She gathers the courage to visit him and request him to reconsider his decision, however, Sikander turns out to be arrogant and tries to brush her away.

The owner is naturally upset that a young college girl. He visits the school’s principal and complains about Najaf. When she is called into the room, Najaf, however, shows no sign of remorse. She is adamant that she was right and she will not apologize. This leads her to be suspended from the college.

Out of nowhere, Najaf finds her life getting torn apart. The episode ends on this note, making us curious what is to happen next.

The promo of the next episode gives us a hint that Najaf will be soon united with Noor Khan, who is probably her sister. But would this mean her troubles will end or will they double? Let’s wait and watch!

Review

It will be too early to give an opinion on the drama. But we must admit, that Gustakh Ishq has launched itself with an intriguing start. The best part of the serial remains Zahid Ahmed. His acting prowess makes us want to watch him more and more. And his broody looks are a cherry-on-the- top.

Iqra Aziz too has impressed us with her genuine acting. We are waiting for Noor Khan’s performance. She is the new favorite of everyone and is reaping alot of love.

For those who don’t know, Gustakh Ishq airs on Urdu1, Friday at 8 PM.

Internet Speed Slow Due to Submarine Cable Fault!

Noticed any zombie-like speed lately while using the internet? That’s because the Submarine cable, once again, is facing another fault!

The word about TransWorld having troubles for past few days — and since entire traffic was shifted to PTCL, a majority of the users here are facing issues too.

The excessive load thus created major issues for PTCL and other users too.

PTCL addressed this matter claiming that the cable system issue might result in degraded customer experience, i.e. slow internet speeds, particularly during peak hours.

It also added that international consortium managing the submarine cable system has initiated the repair work to restore services at the earliest.

Now You Can Get Customized Vanity Number Plates !

Guess what? The Government of Punjab has already started the process to select companies to manufacture both personalised and special vanity number plates.

The plates are being expected to roll-out in October 2017. Drivers will be able to apply for these plates through an online portal which will be available soon.

Each set of number plates will have a unique design, theme, and colour combination, with their own price-tag. That’s not all, users will also be able to design their own personalised creations online.

It is also being said that an online auction will take place for special numbers (vanity plates) as per customer convenience. The government will also receive a helping hand from Excise and Taxation Department of Punjab to divide these plates into different categories.

As of now, the following categories have been created;

Category #1

The first category is for coloured number plates. These plates are simple, will consist of 2 colours, and can be personalised to match with the driver’s car. They will look something like this:

Category #2

The second category consists of themed plates. This category will allow drivers to chose a pattern/theme from the given options, or select one of their own choices. New themes will be introduced along time based on occasions, events, seasons, interests and so on.

Category #3

Category 3 is for prestigious plates. These plates will have both foreground and background, the drivers can choose both alphabetic and numeric characters.

Price

These plates will be issued against the CNIC’s of the drivers who have all their documents in place. Category #1 is for Rs 15,000 per pair, category #2 is for Rs 25,000 per pair, and category will be for Rs 100,000 per pair.

These vanity number plates will also be introduced for bikes, with an estimated price of Rs. 5,000 per pair. Drivers will be able to transfer the plates to another car without paying any additional charges.
