Plans to build a cricket stadium in the capital city of Pakistan for nearly a decade. Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
It will allow the board to construct a cricket stadium in the city. According to the MoU, a land of 35 acres located in Shakarparian has been allocated to the cricket board to build the Islamabad cricket stadium, the city’s first.
Sources have reported that 30% of earnings will be entitled to CDA whereas the remaining 70% will be generated for PCB through domestic and international games at the stadium.
Currently, all local matches, competitions, and challenges are being hosted at Diamond Club and other club-owned stadiums.
Last year, CDA had revoked PCB’s lease for the construction of a cricket stadium and it also refused to issue an NOC. The reason behind this was that that the cricket board was allotted 40 acres for 33 years by CDA, however, the board had made no efforts or attempts in constructing a stadium for the next 5 years.
Stadium Details
For now, reports suggest that the stadium will have a seating capacity of 50,000 people, a cricket academy, a five-star hotel and other related facilities.
Unfortunately, there are a few concerns which are at hand when it comes to building the first ever Islamabad cricket stadium.
“Islamabad does not have a big population and doesn’t need a big stadium which will become a white elephant. [Large stadiums] are often economically nonviable and difficult to maintain.” -Former ICC President, Ehsan Mani
The project has received a lot of criticism over the years. One of the reasons is the location. Shakarparian is a forest area and is often referred to as the “Heart of the City” because of its ideal location. With deforestation already a major concern, not just in major cities, but all over Pakistan, is it wise to build a stadium in a natural habitat?
With deforestation already a major concern, not just in major cities, but all over Pakistan, is it wise to build a stadium in a natural habitat?
Not to forget that the increasing temperatures and low water levels have already created chaos across the nation. The former ICC official believes that this construction of the stadium will not be fruitful, instead, it will cause irrevocable damage to the federal capital and immensely damage the environment.
Organisations have already opposed the construction including Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (Pak-EPA) and National Council for Conservation of Wildlife (NCCW). Asides this, the proposed site for the stadium falls in the jurisdiction of Margalla Hills National Park (MHNP) and such a project is a violation of Islamabad Wildlife (Protection, Preservation, Conservation and Management) Ordinance 1979 as well as the violation of the city’s master plan.

The Government of Pakistan has obtained support from lawmakers to declare Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) “bankrupt” and ultimately shut down the aviation service.
Prime Minister’s Adviser on Aviation, Sardar Mehtab Abbasi told the Senate Special Committee on the Performance of PIA that:
“Such a recommendation from a parliamentary committee will help the government take the difficult decision that it is otherwise hesitating to take.”
Apparently, the committee met to talk about the recommendations to overhaul PIA. It also discussed the round of episodes that have been damaging the reputation of PIA.
It is reported that Sardar Mehtab Abbasi gave the following suggestions to the committee, that are:
Let the PIA run the way it currently is operating
Operate it in loss
Declare the flag carrier bankrupt and shut it down
Restructure it
However, according to Dawn, Committee Chairman Mushahidullah Khan is not in favor of shutting down PIA:
“We believe that a few good officers at the top could restore PIA’s lost glory”
PIA in Hot Water!
Last month, PIA has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. It has been reported that PIA is facing a monthly loss of a whopping PKR 3.25 Billion as per the Acting Executive Chief Officer, Nayyar Hayat.
What is more, a video of a pilot caught sleeping in the passenger compartment ignited a furor on social media. Apparently, he had handed over the plane to an under-training pilot.
Another video also had been leaked in which a PIA allowed a Chinese woman entry in the cockpit for the whole journey.
Last week, as many as 13 PIA officials were detained at the London’s Heathrow airport over alleged security threats.
So what will the government eventually decide? Let’s wait and watch!

Design
The BMW X1 interprets the characteristic appearance of a SAV in a manner which is versatile and dynamic in equal measure. Whether in an urban setting or off-road, its powerfully defined silhouette with a long wheelbase and short overhangs cuts an impressive figure.
It combines an athletic design with compact exterior dimensions, without compromising on flexibility or on the generous amount of space in both rows of seats. The combination of high-quality materials and matching integrated accents skilfully rounds off the BMW X1 look.
Exterior
Its mere appearance awakens the spirit of discovery: This is where the stylistic features of an SUV concept meet the dynamics and athleticism of an urban lifestyle. With its high roofline, the body creates an especially generous sensation of spaciousness in the interior.
Optional xLine extras in sanitised Aluminium on the body reinforce the athletic look and the visual association with the X family.
They also give the front and rear their distinctive appearance. These characteristic features, which are also available in numerous exclusive paint finishes, additionally afford protection against chip damage during off-road excursions.
Aerodynamic excellence and the accompanying reduction in fuel consumption are guaranteed by details such as the side Air blades on the tailgate and the Air Curtain integrated into the air inlets at the front. It also features the Panorama Glass Roof which provides mesmerising views and allows a great deal of light into the interior, lending it a particularly spacious and open ambience.
Interior
The BMW X1 surprises with the familiar. This is made possible by the customary driver-orientated cockpit layout with its extremely innovative and sophisticated design elements. The sense of touch plays a key role here:
Exceptionally fine materials and top-class finishing impress from the very first contact. Ambient light that is perfectly adapted to the interior as well as a selection of materials such as leather, fine woods and aluminium impress with their distinct quality.
Even attention to the practical details is clearly apparent in the BMW X1: The generously designed centre console with closing roller covers cup holders and additional storage spaces offer freedom and underline the versatility of the interior.
Technical highlights such as the optional Navigation system Professional with iDrive Touch Controller are positioned intuitively around the driver’s seat. As a result, you feel at home in the BMW X1 before the very first journey.

Mother’s Day 2017 was quite interesting to watch. There were those people who went all out and celebrated the day making sure their mums had a great time. Then there were some who argued that we shouldn’t just be thoughtful on one day and proceeded to do nothing at all. A number of deals and discounts were introduced especially for Mother’s Day and many brands launched thought-provoking TVC to commemorate the occasion.
Walls was one such brand, with a unique TVC that compelled the audience to re-evaluate their daily lifestyle.
Watch the TVC below:
This is what the brand had to say “We are so caught up in our own lives that we forget to take out time for the ones who love us most- our mothers!” The heartwarming concept behind the ad is a reminder to us all. Often we get so busy with life that we forget to spend time with the one person who deserves it the most. Even after that, our mothers try to be a part of our lives, often trying to fit in by doing things we do.
The TVC is a story of one such mother who is constantly trying to be a part of her two children’s life. The kids being young adults have their own social life. The mother is always in her own way trying to join in the conversation. As a last resort, she joins in the social media website she sees her kids frequenting. She does what every parent has done after making an online account: send friend requests to her kids, tagging them in childhood pictures etc.
Initially, the kids feel embarrassed by all this, but soon they realize the actual reason why their mother felt the need to do this. Walls has always been a family-oriented brand. In the past too, they have come up with heartwarming TVCs that celebrate togetherness and loving families. This TVC too makes you shed a tear or two over the idea and makes you appreciate your mums a little bit more.
It is difficult to believe but domestic violence remains a prominent crime in today’s society. While the world is progressing towards women empowerment and ad campaigns promoting equal rights, such harassment still exists to date.
Here are Some of the Top TVC’s that have raised awareness for Domestic Violence over the years!
1. Stop Domestic Violence (India)
2. Viral Bengali TVC

3. Coalition for Battered Women: Domestic Abuse.

CNG prices have spiked 4 times in the last 5 months. Fuel prices have increased from Rs 74 to Rs 75 and in some areas of the city, it has increased from Rs 73 to Rs 74 per KG.
The government had set its price at Rs. 67.50 per KG before Dec 2016. However, the government increased CNG prices by Rs. 2.18 in mid-December.
There are many factors which add on to this problem, for example, the lack of digital meters. At times, CNG station employees work with stations which do not have digital meters and easily cheat consumers by robbing an extra 1-2 rupees per KG.
Chairman All Pakistan CNG Association Sindh, Shabbir Sulemanji said that the price of CNG across Karachi ranges from Rs. 73 to Rs. 75 under the current regime. He said that adding up the costs for gas, taxes and duties, the prices have increased from Rs. 55/Kg to Rs. 61/Kg over the last 3-4 months.
Another issue might be electricity. Electricity tariff is also the highest for CNG stations compared with other parts of the country, this adds on to the costs including power bill, labour charges, etc. Activists work to solve this issue with the government, however, it will take some time to resort.

Despite demand, the automotive sector saw a drop in sales in April by 12% compared to the previous month of March.
According to Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA)’s report states that 3 automotive makers, combined, sold a total of 17,443 units throughout April. Pak Suzuki sold 9,171 whereas Indus Motor Company managed to sell 4,753 and lastly Honda Cars sold 3,519 units.
One of the reasons behind the low percentage of sales is limited production capacity of cars ( with also includes replacement of new car models) affected the sales numbers negatively in April.
According to analysts, old cars have started to phase out, new cars are being warmly welcomed by consumers whereas the demand for cars which are phasing out has started to die down.
According to ProPakistani, local automobile players have been witnessing production constraints vis-a-vis the increasing demand in the local market.
The gap in the supplies and demands are huge in the local market due to the limited production capacity of the three main players.
Additionally, customers are made to wait for months to get their cars unless they pay extra own money for getting them on time.
For the time being, sales will remain low.

Cricket has changed, for good or for worse, Pakistani cricket, cricketers, and fans worldwide have bid farewell to two of the most amazing, talented men who didn’t just play cricket, but lived and breathed it.
It was indeed a heartstring-tugging moment when Misbah-ul-Haq, Pakistan cricket team’s most successful skipper, no doubt one of the most courageous one, walked onto the field to play his last innings.
Who better to bid him farewell with a smile and a warm hug than the man who has emerged as undeniably Pakistan’s greatest Test batsman, Younis Khan!
The moment is best described in the words of a die-hard fan of Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan, Jarrod Kimber;
“Misbah walks out slowly, you only see him from behind, fiddling with his helmet, and looking a bit stiff. I think about all those times he looked like the fittest guy in the team despite his age, but now he walks like he’s 42, and then he swaps his bat from one hand to the other as he sees someone walk towards him. It’s Younis, and the first time I saw this, before Younis had even come up to Misbah, I was welling up.
It was exactly as I would want to see it: Misbah, slow moving and closed off, looking a bit worse for wear, while Younis, gloves off, comes down the wicket with purpose, not caring much for the state of the game, to embrace his friend and put a fatherly hand around his shoulder. And that is it, the last bit. It’s what they have always done, and will never do again, forget the emotions and go about their business”
An athlete is often compared to death as a metaphor when they decide to retire. It is the process of life after death for them, a new life, new career, new view in making decisions, and this time it’s not the country which they think about it’s their families.
However, when talking about Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq, this metaphor does not apply, because no matter how many years go by and how many years go by, Pakistan will not produce another duo like ‘MisYou’. What is most commendable is that no matter what life threw at these titans, the duo did everything they could have possibly done to make every Pakistani proud.
“Whenever you think back, you think I’ve done this and that, you always have a feeling I could’ve done this a little better. I tried all that I could on my part, with whatever authority and responsibility I had, whatever was in my hands, I did what I could. I tried my level best with this team.”– Misbah-ul-Haq
From 2002-14, a black cloud had surrounded our Maximus, he witnessed the loss of 7 family members (and friends) and had reached a low point in life. They included his father, three siblings, an adolescent nephew, a brother whom he described as his first cricket coach, and a cricket coach he described as a father.
All these departings occurred while he was away on tour, and was exhausted. However, despite what happened in his personal life, he stayed professional and continued to strive to give everything he had with each stroke he took.
“Patience is very important. The other thing, for captaincy, is that the most difficult task, you go there and do it yourself. If you do, then automatically players get behind you and start playing their roles.”
“The most important thing, in any situation, is to have players who truly believe they can do it, players who believe that whatever the situation, whatever circumstances, they are the ones who can do it for the first time. That is the key thing to bring, that belief in a side – who are the players who will bring that belief into a side?” – Misbah-ul-Haq
Thank you Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan, thank you for all those victories, thank you for all the memories, thank you for that precious hug, thank you for your dedication your patriotism and for your sacrifices.
We will MisYou!
