Iran to Issue 200,000 Visas to Pakistan!

Iran’s ambassador to Pakistan has announced that the Iranian embassy in Islamabad is all set to issue of 200,000 visas to Pakistani pilgrims traveling for the holy walk of Arbaeen that will take place on the 9th of November 2017 in Karbala, Iraq.

The Chairman of Pakistan Pilgrim Welfare Foundation has added that the Iranian embassy and consulates in Pakistan have made a new record for the number of visas issued to Pakistani pilgrims this year.

The Irani government has further made arrangements for the pilgrims to travel onwards from Iran to attend the Arbaeen ritual in Iraq which marks the end of a 40-day mourning period for the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS), the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Pakistani pilgrims will use the Iranian land for travel to Iraq to participate in the Arbaeen ritual.

Ambassador, Mehdi Hoonardoost mentioned the number of visas to Pakistani pilgrims on Arbaeen last year was 150,000, however, this year due to an increase in demand the number is expected to hit 200,000.

The envoy went on to say that ending medical certificate condition for visa seeking Pakistanis is a major step taken by the embassy to facilitate pilgrims.

Good News for Pakistanis Traveling for Arbaeen Ritual! 

Pakistanis can now apply for Iranian visa without submitting their medical certificate. The embassy has also introduced an e-visa which will allow the pilgrims to get their visa in just two days. Pilgrims can apply for visas themselves getting rid of agents who try to exploit people for extra money.

Pakistan white-washed Sri Lanka in a massive T20 match between the 2 giants in Lahore. The final was a house-full event and became a successful event for both PCB and for the cricket enthusiasts who had been craving for cricket at home for 8 years!

While talking to the media in a conference, PCB Chairman Najam Sethi added; “five full-member ICC countries and one qualifier will play the tournament in next year April,” adding, “I hope India will come to play the tournament.”

Sethi said that the schedule of West Indies tour to Pakistan will be finalised in a day or two, with more than one venue being a part of the plan.

He further said;

“We are happy to be here in Lahore. We are here to support good cricket, Pakistan is a big cricket-playing country which cant be ignored. We have seen extraordinary security here. We will come again for our cricket fans here,” the board chief said.

“It’s an honour to play in Pakistan. One wins and another looses in cricket but what matters is that brotherly relations should be maintained between both the countries.”

The love for automotive had brought Pakistan’s first Tesla into the country! At last, the trend of electric vehicles has been raising its game!

The first Tesla model to have entered the country is the 2017 Tesla S 75D. The beauty is a gorgeous sight and is winning hearts on social media.

However, one of the turn-offs of the gorgeous ride is the vehicle duty which is imposed on it.

Saudi Arabia Makes Major Changes to Work Visa Validity

A vast number of Pakistani nationals have been living and working in Saudi Arabia since decades. The trend is an ongoing one and people are always looking for opportunities to work in the Kingdom due to better pay and a higher standard of living.

However, the visa process is long and tedious. There are now changes implemented by the Labor Law department that will change the visa process for employment visas issued for private sector companies in Saudi Arabia. It has been reported that the said visa will now be valid for a period of one year only.

According to Minister of Labor and Social Development, Dr. Ali Al Ghafis,

“This rule is not applicable for visas issued to government servants and domestic workers coming to work in Saudi Arabia.”

The Saudi Gazette further reported that the decision has been taken according to Article 11 of the Labor Law. The minister can take procedures that are deemed necessary for improving the efficiency of the employment market.

The country has been undergoing major changes, earlier this week Minister, Ali Al Ghafis announced another order that allows foreign mothers of Saudis as well as non-Saudi children to Saudi women to work in professions which were previously only allowed for Saudi nationals.

Popular Urdu Slang Words Now Recognized By Oxford Dictionary!

As time changes, language keeps evolving and changing. With the millennial era upon us, there seems to be a vast difference in the daily lingo being spoken.

The Oxford English Dictionary (OED) has always kept us with incorporating various popular words into the dictionary which are not only from the English Language but have been used extensively from other languages like German, Spanish, Greek, Urdu, Hindi, Tamil, French etc. Not only these, Oxford has also added words from local languages like Gujarati too.

A new addition has been made to the dictionary with the ‘slang’ word ‘Jugaad’ which is popular in the subcontinent. The word has been officially recognized in the latest version of the dictionary.

Jugaad is listed as a noun and the meaning is described as: 

“Involving the use of skills and imagination to find an easy way to solve the problem or too fix or make something using cheap basic items and methods.”

Other interesting words from the Urdu and Hindi Dialect have also been added in the September revision of the Oxford Dictionary.

The World English Editor for Oxford Dictionary, Danica Salazar mentioned,

“Indian speech etiquette features a complex system of kinship terms and terms of address, in which age, gender, status, and family relationships are marked by a highly specific vocabulary with no direct equivalents in English. This lexical gap is filled by borrowing such words from Indian languages or adapting existing English words.”

The September 2017 update also includes words like worstest and fungivorous.

 “All this happens in the context of patriarchy where the bodies of women have become the battle ground for men to fight their battles of honor, power and revenge”

He congratulated the makers of Na Maloom Afraad 2 and Punjab Nahi Jaungi on the success of the movie.

But he also made a point that while cinema needs to entertain viewers, it also has a duty to prompt people to think!

Government Announced 70 Public Sector Enterprises to be Privatized

Pakistan’s private sector is soon going to experience a major boom after the Cabinet Committee on Privatization (CCOP) has approved 70 Public Sector Enterprises (PSE) to be privatized as reported by ProPakistani.

42 out of the 70 enterprises have been listed under the Early Implementation program. The companies included in the program will undergo the privatization program within the next few years.

The 42 Companies That are in the Early Implementation Program: 

HBL, UBL, Allied Bank, Pakistan Petroleum Limited. Pak Arab Refinery Company, and National Power Construction have already undergone the process and been privatized.

Some of the big corporations include, PIA, Pakistan State Oil, National Bank of Pakistan and Pakistan Steel Mills these have all been state owned enterprises for decades. Continuous financial losses have resulted in the final decision of PIA being privatized. Massive changes should be expected following the privatization of these entities.

Faran Tahir Appears In Final Season of American Series Scandal

Pakistani-American Hollywood actor Faran Tahir made an appearance in the second episode of the seventh season of American TV series Scandal.

The episode, which aired on 12th October’17, featured Faran in the role of Bashran’s President Rashad, who is the US President Mellie Grant’s guest of honor at a state dinner designed to mend relations with the unstable Bashrani government.

Since Bashran is within a year of nuclear capability, the ultimate goal of the US government in this episode was to get Rashad’s signature on a de-proliferation agreement. Initially refusing to cave into any pressure or blackmail, Rashad eventually agrees to negotiate when he is saved from an assassination attempt. The episode ended with hinting a possible romance between President Rashad and President Mellie Grant.

Faran’s role in the final seventh season of Scandal is a recurring one. He will next be seen in the fourth episode which will air on 26th October’17, followed by the fifth episode which will air on 2nd November’17.

Scandal is a Shonda Rhimes production which airs on ABC Network. The star cast of the show also includes Kerry Washington, Guillermo Diaz, Darby Stanchfield, Katie Lowes, Tony Goldwyn, Jeff Perry, Bellamy Young, Joshua Malina, Scott Foley, George Newbern and Cornelius Smith Jr.

 

 

50kg Tortoise Meat Seized in Punjab!

For a nation which is suffering greatly in terms of wildlife depletion, it comes as a shock when another attempt on smuggling tortoise meat to China was caught red-handed. The demand for the meat is high and Chinese are ready to pay a high price for it.

Recently, a consignment heading towards Hongkong was caught by Sindh Wildlife officials and now it has been reported that two poachers were arrested for illegal selling of 50 kg of tortoise meat to Chinese nationals in a southern district of Punjab.

The arrest was made by the Wildlife Department when the poachers were shooting tortoises in the Saraya Sidhoo area of Kanewal district. The meat was also seized and is in possession of the department. The poachers will now be presented in a court of law.

As per the provincial director of the Wildlife Department, Mohammad Gashgori, the two men are part of a bigger gang that has been involved in the smuggling of tortoise meat for the past 6 months.

He further added,

“The meat is being supplied to Chinese restaurants.”

The Punjab Government has banned the hunting and selling of tortoise meat. Ghashgori also mentioned,

“Strict action would be taken against anyone found involved in this illegal trade.”

After the arrest of the two gang members, the Wildlife Department officials are on a manhunt for the rest of the gang involved in this illegal trade.

The Chinese have a high demand for tortoise meat as they believe it has aphrodisiac qualities and prolongs life, is a good source of protein and is high in calcium.

Remember how Samsung and LG were trying to make a foldable phone and how Apple joined the race, which is rumoured to be working with LG on a foldable OLED Smartphone?

Well, looks like a US-based manufacturer beat them to it by finally making a fold-able dual screen Smartphone that actually works and will be on sale!

The company behind the phone is Axon M.

ZTE Axon M has been launched exclusively on AT&T in the US and will be available starting next month. The Chinese company has confirmed that the Axon M will also be making its way to other markets including China, Europe, and Japan.

The company is also in the works of introducing the new Axon M as a multimedia device as it claims it fits in a pocket quite easily when folded. The smartphone comes in 4 different modes.

Including;

  • Dual mode, which will allow users to use two different apps on separate screens;
  • The extended mode can stream email or allows users play games on a full 6.75-inch full-HD display;
  • Mirror mode, which allows users to mirror the same content on both the screen when folded with both screens in different directions.
  • Traditional mode, which allows users to use the device as a conventional smartphone. ZTE Axon M will be available at $24.17 for 30 months on AT&T Next when they have eligible service.

Car Sales Witness Massive Increase in Q1 of 2017-18

Sale of cars in the country rose to 50,640 units during the first quarter of the fiscal year 2017-18 compared to the sale of 41,405 units during the same period of last year showing an increase of 22.3 percent.

On year on year basis, the sale of passenger cars witnessed an increase of 11 percent as it rose to 15,639 units in September 2017 from 14,088 units in September 2016.

The latest data issued by Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) revealed:

Toyota Corolla

The break-up figures show that a number of Toyota Corolla cars sold during the first quarter (July-September) 2017-18, remained 12,765 units compared to 12,655 units during the first quarter of preceding fiscal year.

Honda

Similarly, Honda Cars witnessed an increase of 30 percent during the period under review as it increased from 8,059 units last year to 10,534 units in the current year.

Suzuki

Sale of Suzuki Swift, however, witnessed a negligible decline during the corresponding period as during first quarter of 2016-17, 1,046 units were sold out while during the same period the f current fiscal year, the sale was recorded at 1,044 units.

Sale of Suzuki Cultus also witnessed an increase of 56 percent to 5,181 units in July-September (2017-18) from 3,322 units in same period of previous year.

Besides, Suzuki WagonR also witnessed a sharp increase as it rose to 5,789 units from 3,385 units in first three months of the year 2016-17

The trendsetting Japanese fusion restaurant Gai’a opened its doors for people for their new menu of High Tea. This is a new addition to the already existing powerful menu that they offer. The event took place on Thursday afternoon at Gai’a in Defence Phase 5.

Gai’a takes pride in seeking the best of everything and same goes for its sister company, Pink Pistachio.

Gai’a and Pink Pistachio are the perfect match and for this high tea menu both of them have partnered up to bring out the best ingredients, and attention to detail. The exclusive high tea launch event at Gai’a tailored the high tea basic foundation offer that became more elaborate along with a delectable premium high tea platter.

The premium platter has more savories and pastries in addition to the tea that can be tweaked further by selecting from the 13 unique and exotic tea blends or from the three blooming flower tea options.

Speaking about Gai’a’s high tea concept, Yasmeen Hasan, COO Gai’a, added, “The ethos behind Gai’a is to please its guests. The high tea hits just the right notes in helping complete the perfect dining experience melody — Rich, exquisite, detailed, and fun.”

iOS

  1. Download the Dolphin web browser to your iOS device.
  2. Open www.youtube.com in Dolphin.
  3. Navigate to the video you want to listen to and press play.
  4. Exit the Dolphin app and you’ll be able to resume playback from the iOS Control Center.

Android

  1. Open www.youtube.com in the Chrome browser.
  2. In the three-dot menu at the top right, check the “Request desktop site” box.
  3. Navigate to the video you want to listen to and press play.
  4. If you’re shown a warning saying YouTube wants to send you notifications, accept it.
  5. Exit the Chrome app and you’ll be able to resume playback from the notification menu.

Expo 2020 Dubai: 30,000 Volunteers Needed!

The most awaited Dubai Expo 2020 is gearing up and preparations for the grand event are well underway. A hunt for more than 30,000 volunteers has been launched who would be the ‘face’ of the largest global gathering in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia.

The volunteers will be coming from various nationalities and backgrounds and will be playing an important role in the Expo. The task will include welcoming about 25 million visitors over the six-month-long event. 70% of visitors are to come from outside the UAE which is the largest proportion ever in the history of the expo.

 

Volunteer Roles 

Volunteers can participate in the events leading up to the Expo 2020 and also attend the brainstorming sessions which could have their ideas be included in the plans. This time’s Expo’s main theme is, ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’

There are more than 45 roles available for volunteers which include welcoming guests to managing events with about 16 million hours of work spread across 173 days. People who decide to volunteer will gain hands-on experience and exposure to such a ground-breaking event.

Reem Ebrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State for International Cooperation and Director-General of Expo 2020 Dubai Bureau commented on the event and the search for volunteers,

“Expo 2020 is a global event for everyone to learn, innovate, create, and have fun by sharing ideas and working together and we are proud to include opportunities for more than 30,000 volunteers from any age, nationality or background, reflecting the diversity of our Expo and our nation”

Najeeb Mohammad Al Ali, Executive Director, Expo 2020 Dubai Bureau also added,

“We will focus on attracting various groups of society, including university students, housewives, retirees, employees and people of determination. There will be opportunities for everyone, in line with Expo 2020’s theme”

Registration

The registration to become a volunteer at the Expo 2020 will begin online on Friday, 20th October 2017. The launch event will be held at The Beach at Jumeirah Beach Residence.
