Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Azerbaijanโs Minister for Defence Industry, Vugar Mustafayev, held discussions in Islamabad to strengthen ties between the two nations. The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation in trade, energy, defence and investment. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral collaboration for mutual benefit.
Mustafayevโs visit coincided with the 8th Session of the Pakistan-Azerbaijan Joint Ministerial Commission, co-chaired by Khawaja Muhammad Asif. The session concluded with agreements to implement the Azerbaijan-Pakistan Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) and explore joint ventures in defence and energy. Key projects include an MoU for defence hardware production and a strategic underground gas storage initiative.

Agriculture was another focus, with both countries agreeing to collaborate on cotton research, grain cultivation and seed development. Business-to-business exchanges in agricultural commodities were also encouraged. Cooperation in health was emphasized, including diagnostics, medical tourism, and research.
The two sides committed to creating new joint working groups for future advancements and confirmed the 9th Joint Commission Session will take place in Baku in 2027. Minister Asif highlighted how high-level exchanges have bolstered ties across multiple sectors, including energy, defence and trade.
