In the midst of looming terror threats, Pakistan’s Foreign Office urged India to prioritize the security of the Pakistani team during the ongoing World Cup 2023 in India.

During her weekly briefing, the Foreign Office spokesperson revealed that Pakistan has been in communication with India regarding visa issuance for cricket fans. She expressed hope that Pakistani supporters would be granted the necessary visas for the World Cup 2023.

Critically, she pointed out that while Pakistan has engaged in diplomatic efforts, India has been actively involved in perpetuating a negative narrative against Pakistan, further alleging India’s involvement in acts of terrorism within the region.

The spokesperson also emphasized that sports and politics should remain distinct spheres. Moreover, she urged New Delhi not to obstruct Pakistani cricket enthusiasts from enjoying the World Cup 2023.

According to Indian media reports, authorities have significantly bolstered security measures during the World Cup. This came in response to terror threats directed at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. Over 3,000 police personnel have been deployed in and around the venue, which is slated to host the highly anticipated Pakistan-India clash, as well as the tournament’s final.

Furthermore, stringent restrictions have been imposed on spectators, permitting only mobile phones to be carried inside the stadium. Roads leading to the venue will also be sealed off during matches, underscoring the gravity of the security measures in place.
