Pakistan Observes Kashmir Solidarity Day with Nationwide Holiday

The federal government has officially declared February 5 as a public holiday to observe Kashmir Solidarity Day. In line with this, the State Bank of Pakistan has also announced that all banking operations will remain suspended for the day. Government offices, banks, and educational institutions across the country will be closed, as confirmed in an earlier notification issued by authorities.

Kashmir Solidarity Day, observed annually, is dedicated to expressing support for the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). To mark the occasion, various events, including rallies, seminars, and human chains, have been planned in major cities like Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi. Political leaders, activists and citizens are expected to participate in these demonstrations, reaffirming Pakistanโ€™s stance on the Kashmir issue.

In addition to the federal governmentโ€™s announcement, provincial administrations, including Sindh, have also confirmed a complete closure of government and semi-government offices. Markets, schools and other public spaces will remain shut, while certain roads in key areas may experience disruptions due to planned processions and gatherings.

Pakistan has been observing Kashmir Solidarity Day since 1990 as a show of support for Kashmiris and their right to self-determination. The longstanding dispute over Kashmir remains a central issue between Pakistan and India, with Islamabad consistently advocating for a resolution based on United Nations resolutions.
