Pakistan Seeks Germany's Support to Meet Climate Commitments

The Prime Minister’s coordinator for climate change, Romina Hursshid Alam, has requested Germany’s assistance in providing technical expertise to help Pakistan develop its climate action strategies and expedite the shift to clean energy.

At the meeting with the Federal Economic Cooperation Department and the German Development Department (BMZ), led by Christian Amari, Alam emphasised the significance of strengthening bilateral cooperation in relation to climate change and sustainable development.

The discussion focuses on the ongoing and future initiatives associated with environmental protection and mitigation, especially with the battle against Pakistan’s climate challenges, including floods and droughts. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to uphold the National Climate Change Policy and the Pakistan Climate Change Act, along with fulfilling its climate goals under the Paris Agreement.

Amari assured Germanyโ€™s assistance for Pakistanโ€™s climate objectives, highlighting collaboration knowledge exchange, technology transfer and financial resources. “Integrating climate change adaptation into national development policies is paramount,” she said. “We must ensure the transition to a green economy is inclusive and resilient.”

Ahmed Atteeq Anwar, Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Climate Change attended the meeting and advocated for the inclusion of climate education in schools and the involvement of youth planting tree and community cleanup projects. “Media and social platforms play a crucial role in spreading awareness and inspiring youth to take climate action,” he noted

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their dedication to enhancing Pakistanโ€™s climate resilience and sustainability through cooperation.
