PTCL has officially connected Pakistan to the Africa-1 submarine cable, a big move to boost the country’s digital and telecom infrastructure. The cable is linked to PTCL’s exchange in Karachi, promising faster and more reliable international internet access.
By joining the Africa-1 Cable System Consortium, PTCL is helping Pakistan connect to global digital hubs and strengthen its telecommunication network. The 10,000 km-long cable will link Pakistan to several important regions, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, Sudan, Algeria, France, Kenya and Djibouti.
Syed Muhammad Shoaib, PTCL’s Group Vice President for International Business, emphasised how this project aligns with Digital Vision 2030. He highlighted PTCL’s commitment to bridging the digital divide, fostering innovation, and supporting economic growth.
The Africa-1 cable system is set to go live by early 2026, delivering faster, more stable internet services for businesses and consumers across the country.
