Pakistan’s motorway police have registered the first-ever FIR for speeding, leading to the arrest of a driver for exceeding the legal speed limit. The incident took place on the M-4 motorway near Multan, where a vehicle was caught travelling at 173 km/h, well above the 120 km/h limit for cars. According to motorway police spokesperson Syed Imran Ahmed, the driver, identified as Rahim Khan, was charged with negligence and speeding at Budhla Sant police station and later handed over to local authorities.
The motorway police have pledged to enforce speed limits rigorously, warning that vehicles exceeding 150 km/h will be immediately stopped, fined and face FIRs. Officials also emphasised the need for better speed monitoring on national highways to prevent accidents and ensure road safety. The speed limit for public service vehicles is 110 km/h and all drivers are urged to comply with regulations.

In a separate development, the Lahore High Court (LHC) has ordered authorities to impose a Rs10,000 fine on drivers violating the one-way traffic rule on service roads during school dismissal hours. Justice Shahid Karim issued the directive, stressing that stricter enforcement and higher fines would lead to better compliance with traffic laws. The decision was made during a hearing on smog control, pollution reduction, and groundwater conservation.
A Judicial Water and Environment Commission member informed the court that despite previous instructions, the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) had only issued notices to schools regarding drop-line management but had not taken concrete action. The court urged authorities to implement measures effectively to improve road discipline and reduce congestion near schools.
