The Pakistan Cricket Board took a major step towards restoring the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad. The BoG forwarded the proposal during the 74th meeting for the PCB to take complete control of the venue, while renovating it to international standards.
This could be a major U-turn for Faisalabad cricket since this stadium had been for the longest period the property of the Faisalabad City Cricket Association and, as such, was rarely able to host big events.
Good News For Faisalabad
This step may finally get the Iqbal Stadium a chance to stage the return of international cricket, again, with its stands packed to witness some high-profile bilateral series. It has been quite a while since Faisalabad witnessed some real action in terms of big international games.
On the same day, Faisalabad also had the honor of kicking off the Champions One-Day Cup at Iqbal Stadium. The tournament started with an exciting clash between Markhors, led by Mohammad Rizwan, and Panthers, captained by Shadab Khan.
The BoG praised the PCB Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, for securing partnerships with reputable organizations, making this a high-profile event with the country’s top players competing.

Mohsin Naqvi’s Vision
Naqvi has indeed brought some much-needed passion into Pakistan’s domestic circuit. Firstly, the Champions Cup is an excellent avenue for budding talent to rise and shine; secondly, it is a reflection of the work being carried out in bringing some semblance of order in the country’s cricket structure.
As Naqvi pointed out, “The Champions Cup will strengthen domestic cricket and provide opportunities for new talent to emerge.” When it comes to Faisalabad, Naqvi is especially optimistic.
“I am pleased to see the excitement of Faisalabad’s citizens for the Champions Cup,” he said. “PCB has made every effort to ensure good arrangements for the matches, focusing on providing the best facilities for cricket fans.”
