As winters approach, this announces the start of the fish-eating season across the country. However, the easy availability of substandard fish has alerted the Punjab Food Authority to take strict action against a number of fish selling outlets in the province.
The PFA took the following action:
- Sealed 11 Fish Joints
- 67 eateries were fined a hefty amount of PKR 900,000
- 211 Shops were issued with a warning
The fish eateries and joints are located across the province of Punjab. The cities raided were Lahore, Rahim Yar Khan, Rajanpur, Attock and other 36 districts. According to the PFA, these joints were dealing in germ-infested and substandard quality fish which can be hazardous for human consumption.
Out of the 11 joints that were sealed, four are situated in Lahore, 3 in Gujranwala and 2 in Faisalabad and Multan. It was discovered that the shops have been using rancid oil and selling harmful fish products.
PFA Additional Director General (Operations) Rafia Haider mentions the reason behind sealing the outlets.
