Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a Ramadan package to support 4 million households across Pakistan. Each family will receive Rs 5,000 through a digital wallet, benefiting around 20 million people.
Speaking at the ceremony in Islamabad, the prime minister expressed gratitude, noting that inflation during Ramadan is lower than in previous years. The government has allocated Rs 20 billion for the package โ a 200% increase from last yearโs Rs 7 billion.
In Punjab, the “Nigehban Ramazan” project started in February, providing Rs 10,000 to 3 million low-income families. Pakistan Post began distributing payments on February 25, handling booking, processing and delivery under the supervision of Director-General Sami Ullah Khan. To ensure smooth operations, the Punjab government temporarily banned postal staff leave and transfers.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) also announced Ramadan and Eid relief packages. Over 1 million families will receive Rs 10,000 through banks and EasyPaisa by the 15th of Ramadan. The government will cover all bank and disbursement fees to ensure families get the full amount.
Meanwhile, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced that the Ramadan moon was not sighted. The first fast will be observed on Sunday, March 2. The committee, led by Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, held meetings nationwide, with input from the Meteorological Department and SUPARCO, before confirming the decision.
